Boat of the Week: 2003 Sabreline 47 Motor Yacht

This seaworthy 2003 Sabreline 47 motor yacht is loaded with custom options.

A previously owned boat is often a better option than new and is usually less expensive and better equipped. Fast Lane , an exceptional late-model Sabreline 47 Downeast-style motor yacht, is a prime example.

The original owner ordered more than $200,000 in custom options when the boat was built and invested another $50,000 in maintenance and equipment upgrades. Powered by twin Yanmar 500hp 6CX-GTE2 diesel engines (upgraded from the standard 465hps), Fast Lane can cruise efficiently at 15 knots, burning just 20 GPH. The engines had a full 2,000-hour service completed in 2022.

Adding an optional Sea Recovery Ultra Whisper water maker (600 gpd) allowed the owner to replace one of the redundant water tanks with an additional fuel tank, increasing fuel capacity to 625 gallons for long-range cruising. The Sidepower SP125T bow thruster with joystick controls at both the upper and lower helm stations makes for ease of maneuvering in tight spaces.

The modified-V hull with a 14-degree deadrise angle at the transom  balances the efficiency of getting on plane with providing a smoother ride in choppy conditions. The boat is capable of smooth running at top speeds of up to 30 knots. Wide chines with a slight down angle help to get her on up on a plane quickly. Long spray rails make for a dry run in the sloppiest seas.

The guest stateroom forward boasts a spacious V-berth, plenty of storage, two opening portlights and an overhead opening hatch. The ensuite head has a vanity with sink, VacuFlush toilet with separate holding tank, separate shower stall, two opening portlights and an opening hatch overhead. The U- shaped galley on the port side comes equipped with a Force 10 three-burner propane cooktop, Sub Zero side-by-side refrigerator/freezer with icemaker, Cuisinart convection oven and double stainless-steel sinks.

Step up three steps to the main saloon which features the lower helm to starboard, helm seat and sliding doors on either side opening to the wide side decks. There’s a desk/chart table with a stool to port, a custom, newly upholstered larger U-shaped settee and a custom high-gloss varnished inlaid table to starboard. Opposite, to port is a storage unit housing the Samsung 40″ LCD TV (which can raise and lower), Sirius entertainment, Bose 123 DVD/audio system and more storage. The custom Herreschoff interior features mahogany cabinetry and trim and a brightly varnished teak-and-holly cabin sole.

The lower helm station is protected by a large windshield with commercial-grade wipers, providing good visibility. The U-shaped settee to starboard converts into a double berth. The hi-lo table has an extra leaf for dining and can also be lowered to coffee table height. Aft and to port is the sun deck companionway which leads to the sundeck and then up to the command bridge.

The upper helm station provides excellent sight lines of the sea ahead. It’s protected by a venturi windshield, a new Bimini top and enclosures. Both helm stations are equipped with new Raymarine screens, Raymarine Autopilot, Raymarine VHF and Ritchie compasses new gauges with wind speed indicators and depth sounders. There are 3,183 hours logged on the Onan MDKAW 11.5 kW generator with a sound shield.

From the main saloon, step aft and down three steps to the full-beam master stateroom with walk- around queen berth, built-in desk and seating and loads of storage. The ensuite head with ceramic tile floor comes equipped with vanity with sink, mirror, VacuFlush toilet with separate holding tank and a separate stall shower with a seat.
