Benetti – Spectre
The sea trial was pubblished in Superyacht 62 – Summer 2019
“Spectre” is a 69 metre full custom built by Benetti for John Staluppi, entrepreneur and American philanthropist with a wholesome passion for James Bond’s saga and ‘veteran’ loyal returner to Benetti. In fact this is his third superyacht in less than ten years.
“I’m Staluppi, John Staluppi”. He must have introduced himself like that mimicking Secret agent 007 -Bond’s way the first time Staluppi walked through Benetti’s gates. From then on it’s been love at first sight as in less than ten years he’s had three superyachts built and “Spectre” is the latest.
Born in1947 Mr. Staluppi started with nothing and followed his dream and become a multi-millionaire. He quit school at sixteen and kicked off as mechanic to become one of the most important entrepreneurs in the automotive industry in the USA. Among other things, he founded Florida’s Classic Car Museum known as “Cars of Dreams” which is where he often stages auctions dedicated to charity. A great philanthropist too, he’s been involved in several charity associations. Staluppi is also a keen yachtsman of superyachts as well being the founder of the Millenium Super Yachts brand through which he proposes highly performing custom models. He’s always been a real ‘monster’ performance buff, also as a challenge to the Aga Khan’s very fast power boats. Staluppi induced Heesen to build him “Octopussy” a 39 metre with a top speed of 53 knots followed by a 36 metre by Norship “Moonraker” which is capable of 61 knots and by 42 metre “The World is Not Enough” built with the Millenium Super Yachts brand which notwithstanding the fact that according to the design project it should have reached 70 knots, it has never gone beyond 66.
Adding up the number of yachts he has owned over the years, John has had 18 yachts and superyachts each one of them with names connected to secret Agent James Bond created in the ‘fifties by Ian Fleming. The latest in this long list is 69 metre “Spectre” which hit the water on November 19th last year at Benetti’s premises. With a steel and aluminium alloy build this mega yacht required a total of 750,000 man hours to build from inception to completion. Giorgio M. Cassetta drew up the project design work of the exteriors, with a demanding task which was to deliver enough similitude with the glorious thrilling moments the US automotive industry was capable of delivering in the nineteen fifties and sixties. The final winning result obtained was, in working with proportions, making them dynamic but without taking anything away from the interior volumes, and naturally with numerous special designs borrowed from the historic and iconic motor cars which used to speed along the highways in those times. Dutch Mulder Design delivered the structural project work of the hull and engines, with whom Staluppi established a long prolific collaboration. As for “Spectre” Frank Mulder came up with something he defines as being a “High Speed Cruising Hull, a sort of displacing hull which enables the 69 metre to reach a considerable speed of 21.2 knots with a pair of MTU 2,580 KW engines which is as much as 30% better than that of a traditional hull. Thanks also to large capacious fuel tanks this yacht’s range is of about 6,500 nautical miles at 12 knots. Total Ride Control technology by Naiad Dynamics, thanks to this Dutch studio has been installed for the first time on a yacht namely ”Spectre”. Prior to this Total Ride Control technology was installed on commercial vessels. The system enhances stability while cruising. Essentially it is made of a pair of stabilizer fins in the bow area which dampen pitch accordingly and three interceptors aft of amidships towards the stern area which dampen roll. Benetti’s in house interior Style Department and the owner accompanied by his wife Jeannette for her precious input worked together. The final choice fell upon Liberty styling which in trendy Paris hotels and boutiques was very popular at the turn of the twentieth century. More of it is clearly visible in several of the details in the main living area/saloon situated along the main deck. Details of the carpeting copy the Parisian style of the times and so do the window like ports which like to recall the shop windows of the same period in Paris. The interior layout comprises two large cabins along the lower deck which also hosts the crew’s lodgings for a maximum of 14 and for whom great attention has been paid in making them comfortable. Still on this same deck we find a wellness centre which runs full beam across, a gym, hammam, a massage parlour, (which can double as a further cabin). Aft of this there’s a beach club, a garage with room enough for a couple of large tenders and two jet skis. Other guest cabins have been envisaged along the main deck in the bow area, more exactly there are two with private bathroom and an astonishing 90 square metre mega VIP suite. Aft of amidships there’s a living /saloon area with dining room, a lounge which show cases four small temperature controlled wine cellars with precious bottles of wine, and an enormous cockpit. The owners’ quarters are along the upper deck and comprise a private study, two separate bathrooms, two dressing rooms and a private access to the deck area in the bow section. This features two ‘fold away’ terraces into the topsides. The remaining 110 square metres of surface area of this deck is furnished to provide pleasant convivial moments to guests. It is furnished with a dining table, large side boards, a lounge space, with another inside lounge and bar totalling 90 square metres which can offer breath taking panoramic views. A bridge deck proper with l-Bridge full custom by Team Italia features three 32” 4k touch panels by which to monitor safety, while navigational aids, radar, Full ECDIS, CCTV, searchlight, closed circuit cams, and more pass through three multi control plants with jogger, trackball and OLED systems. A 46 inch touch screen routing facility, i-PLAN, l-NAV, anchor watch system, a document and a System Supervisor in addition to infotainment, there’s also a pool, two sun bathing fully equipped platforms, a bar, lounge sector and an external dinette spot ideal for snacks and informal ‘al fresco’ dinners, next to the helm controls station on the bridge deck. Benetti 69m Spectre: Award-Winning Bond Tribute – Yacht Style Review
Victorious at this year’s World Superyacht Awards, the 69m Spectre was John Staluppi’s third Benetti and his ninth superyacht named after a James Bond film.
Just as the words ‘Bond movie’ call to mind something more than a feature film, the words ‘Staluppi Benetti’ call to mind something more than a motor yacht.
Benetti’s 69m Spectre won the ‘Displacement Motor Yachts 500-1,999GT’ category at the 2019 World Superyacht Awards in London
Since the mid-1980s, John Staluppi has commissioned and owned a series of spectacular superyachts named after Bond movies, most recently the 69m Spectre , the American’s third Benetti.
At this year’s World Superyacht Awards in London, Staluppi and his wife Jeanette joined Benetti hierarchy on stage as Spectre won the ‘Displacement Motor Yachts 500-1,999GT’ category, even though the American had already sold the yacht by then.
The five-deck masterpiece was the latest commission by Staluppi, who appears to love buying, building and selling yachts as much as owning them, and has reportedly owned at least 20 boats of various sizes.
A former mechanic and gas-station attendant, Staluppi owns one of the largest car dealerships in the USA, having introduced the likes of Honda and Hyundai to the US market. His love for and knowledge of engines is sincere and a driving force behind his life and lifestyle. And his mechanic’s hands-on approach to yachting has produced some real wonders.
The stunning sun deck includes a comfortable lounge area, an aft-facing bar and a spa pool
Staluppi considers yachts as “cars with propellers instead of wheels” and his first yacht commissions were driven by a need for speed. The 36m For Your Eyes Only was launched in 1985 and had both MTU engines and water jets for a top speed of 30 knots.
In 1988, the 44m Octopussy , Staluppi’s first collaboration with Dutch naval architect Mulder Design, was his successful bid to build the world’s fastest yacht.
News of Staluppi’s yachts reached the ears of another larger-than-life yachtsman, the Aga Khan, who wanted to build a yacht that could best Octopussy’s 53-knot top speed. A personal duel ensued, with Staluppi rushing to commission Moonraker then The World Is Not Enough , a yacht that could reach 70 knots.
Gadgets are just part of the Bond mystique that also sees luxurious interiors and beautiful locations playing an important role. After a crescendo of yachts where speed was the top priority, Staluppi got tired of being shaken and stirred, so called off his arms race.
The upper deck is the owner’s deck and has a spa pool forward of the owner’s suite, as well as the helipad
Launched just over a decade ago, the 49.6m Casino Royale featured comfortable and luxurious interiors, with a cruising speed of just 12 knots, and soon after Staluppi switched his attention to Benettis.
In 2009, Staluppi acquired a previously owned 52m Benetti that he refitted and named Quantum of Solace , named after the movie launched only a year earlier.
His second Benetti, the 61m Diamonds are Forever , arrived in 2011 and he later bought a second-hand American build that he renamed Skyfall , an ‘interim’ yacht that he sold before the arrival of Spectre , his third and biggest Benetti.
Keeping track of all the yachts that Staluppi has owned and the shipyards he has worked with can bring on a bit of a headache, but in Mulder Design as naval architect and Benetti as builder he seemed to have found his sweet spot.
On the lower deck, the gym is midships and has a fold-down balcony
The Italian yard prides itself on the quality of its workmanship and its flexibility, and has a CEO, Franco Fusignani, who shares Staluppi’s background in the automotive industry. “Owners like Staluppi, who want a complex product that is definitely not off-the-shelf, know that Italian shipbuilding is unique,” Fusignani says.
“There are people here, entire families, who have been working in this sector for decades beginning as artisans and gradually establishing their specialised businesses. Between the two Benetti yards in Viareggio and Livorno, there’s a tradition, a whole world behind us.”
Lots of what’s most notable about Spectre is not noticeable, in that it lies below the waterline. Mulder Design penned the yacht’s High Speed Cruising Hull and was tasked with creating the structural design and propulsion system.
Due to the efficiency of the Mulder hull design, Spectre is 30 per cent faster than other displacement yachts in her size range and has a top speed of 21.2 knots, with a transatlantic 6,500nm range at 12 knots.
Also on the lower deck, the beach club faces the aft swim platform
Mulder Design and Naiad Dynamics tailored the yacht’s set-up for Naiad’s Total Ride Control technology, which reduces roll and pitch via a system that uses both fins and blades for a 40-45 per cent reduction in vertical motion.
Giorgio Cassetta drew Spectre’s exterior, mixing strong vertical elements with straightforward horizontal lines for a look that’s simple and elegant. Aft overhangs are long to create shaded open-air dining and lounging areas, while special attention was paid to creating a sense of unity between the yacht’s indoor and outdoor spaces by repeating colours and materials.
FOR OUR EYES ONLY
Boarding the yacht from the aft deck, a shaded conversation area is served by a large, richly inlaid bar, a harbinger to the level of luxury that awaits inside. The interiors by Benetti’s in-house team make lavish use of walnut burr, mirror and bevelled glass to create an atmosphere that recalls the luxury of vintage cars and Art Deco lounges.
The main saloon opens with 1930s-inspired, tulip-like swivel chairs on an inlaid marble floor. Moving forward, a huge U-shaped couch is upholstered in cream fabric and seems to float on a cloud of ultra-soft carpeting. In the dining area, the inlaid marble floor in contrasting cream and dark chocolate tones is picked up again.
On the main deck, the saloon is dominated by a huge U-shaped couch, with large windows either side
The lobby has a marble floor inlaid in a pattern that recalls the pavement of Rome’s Capitoline Hill and Deco-inspired artwork, similar to Ertè fashion plates. A curved staircase encircles a glass elevator that leads to all decks and, through a discreet door, a hallway leads to two en-suite double cabins and a massive, full- beam VIP suite with twin bathrooms.
Most of Spectre’s guest accommodation is on the main deck, with just one double cabin and one twin on the lower deck.
Instead of the next level being the bridge deck, it’s a knockout owner’s deck, with an enormous suite fore where the bridge would normally be.
This suite’s commanding views through a semi-circle of curved glass windows can be easily enjoyed from the centrally placed bed. A circular skylight that recalls the oculus in the Pantheon is over the bed so you can see the stars at night. Owners have separate walk-in closets, completely separate bathrooms and a study.
The owner’s suite enjoys remarkable 180-degree views
The circular theme continues to the outdoor spaces where there’s a round spa pool and a huge foredeck space with a circular helipad, featuring a large S instead of the usual H in the centre. Aft on the owner’s deck is a skylounge with couches, a bar and a grand piano, while outdoors is a shaded dining area.
On the sundeck, there’s a rectangular spa pool for guests along with a casual dining area and outdoor kitchen. The Captain’s cabin is off the bridge that occupies the forward area.
As expected of a Bond-themed yacht, Spectre’s garage, accessed via a side door, holds a full range of tenders and toys. A second side door gives the gym and wellness area direct access to the air and water, and the transom beach club is just the finishing touch on a yacht that never ceases to amaze.
Spectre is the result of a collaboration between Benetti, Mulder, Cassetta and Benetti’s in-house interior design team, but the inspiration and vision that led to her lay squarely with the owner.
Staluppi may be a car guy and a boat guy, but above all he’s a business guy and the work he did to make Spectre his ideal yacht paid off in spades when he sold her, as Fusignani explains with a rueful smile: “He may have made more money than we did on that sale!”

SPECTRE // Benetti
John staluppi - a well-known name in the yachting industry. not as a designer, not as a shipyard but as a very experienced yacht owner. he is known for high-speed and very luxurious yachts as well and yachts named after james bond movies (in this case: spectre aka fb269)..
I have never worked with him or met him, but he is one of my favorite yacht owners because he had exciting projects like The World is not Enough, Octopussy , Project Skyfall , Diamonds are Forever et cetera. Now after 750,000 working hours comes M/Y SPECTRE to the world.
The exterior design of SPECTURE comes from Giorgio M. Cassetta , while the Benetti shipyard designed the interior with the in-house team. Mulder Design calculated the naval architecture .
Two MTU engines ( 2,580 kW each at 2,100 rpm) power the yacht up to 21,2 knots . At the economical speed of 12 knots, the vessel has an operating range of 6,500 nautical miles.
Benetti installed the Naiad Dynamics Total Ride Control® – a stabilizer system usually found on military and commercial vessels.

The lower deck also contains a spa, hammam, and the gym. The gym has a fold-out terrace and transforms into a further cabin if needed. There is also another double bed guest cabin and a twin-bed cabin alongside the crew area for 14 people with the galley, storage, and the crew mess.
Vincenzo Poerio – Benetti CEO comments:
“We are delighted of John coming back, especially with such a request, we can define as a very exciting “new challenge”. This relationship – with a so faithful client give us a responsibility even heavier than our usual. We are sure to meet once again with his desires. By the way is an unrivaled signal of Benetti’s great commercial success – based on customer listening in addition to our working teams unmatchable capabilities to realize any kind of Owners’ request”.
John and Jeanette Staluppi say:
“We are very happy to be building our new yacht with the Benetti team as my wife, Jeanette and I were extremely pleased with “Diamonds are Forever”. The new venture will be of a much higher standard with new modern day high tech systems, and once again working with Frank and Bas Mulder. With the combination of expertise between Benetti, Mulder and our design team, we believe this will be our greatest project.”

First Drive: Rolls-Royce Spectre EV – An Electrifying Blend of Luxury and Performance
Anders Warming, the Director of Design at Rolls-Royce, presented the Spectre EV’s design philosophy at Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance a couple of years back, providing a comprehensive look into its design philosophy and highlighting the specific elements that make the Rolls-Royce Spectre unique. During his in-depth presentation, Warming strongly emphasized the integral role of storytelling in the design process at Rolls-Royce. He explained that each design element tells a story that reflects a deep and enduring connection to the brand’s rich heritage. However, this commitment to tradition doesn’t hinder innovation. On the contrary, it acts as a potent platform for challenging design limits, enabling the integration of creative elements that improve the overall vehicle’s experience, providing a glimpse into the delicate equilibrium of tradition and advancement that characterizes Rolls-Royce.
Designer: Anders Warming for Rolls-Royce
Exterior Design: Front & Side Profile – Elegant, Aerodynamic and Nautical Elegance
The car’s exterior design achieves a unique elegance and strength with a playful mix of upright and flowing lines. ItThear gives you a friendly wink, saying, “I’m strong, but I also know how to have fun!” The design creates a dynamic vibe, with waft lines that remind you of a sailing adventure, adding a sense of motion and speed, even when the car is parked. The two-tone color scheme is like a cherry on top. The Aero Two-Tone finish, a fantastic design element, highlights the car’s sporty spirit. It’s like the car is wearing a stylish cap, with the upper color extending across the bonnet and along the sweeping fastback roofline, leaving out the side pillars for an eye-catching contrast. This coloring choice, a classic feature of Rolls-Royce designs, creates an unforgettable visual impact, significantly adding to the car’s overall look.
The Rolls-Royce Spectre redefines luxury automotive design in many ways, beginning with its iconic Spirit of Ecstasy. This revered emblematic figure is now reimagined for aerodynamic finesse, embodying ce and forward thrust. It’s a poetic blend of heritage and modernity.
With its unique split headlights, this modern design is not about looks; it’s a mix of old and new design, similar to the famous Phantom Coupé’s lights but with a modern touch.
The Pantheon grille, a key feature of Rolls-Royce, has been stylishly updated for the brand’s first EV. It’s a great example of old design meeting new needs. The grille is broader, showing how the brand can change with the times but still keep its grand style. This grille isn’t just for looks; it also helps air flow smoothly around the car.
This is where the blend of design and aerodynamics has culminated in the Spectre’s drag coefficient. While it may not match other high-end luxury EVs, the figure is remarkable, considering the car’s adherence to Rolls-Royce’s design principles.
The side profile of the Spectre is a canvas where Rolls-Royce’s rich history of bespoke design merges with nautical elegance. This is apparent in the sweeping fastback glasshouse, which resembles a yacht ready for a voyage. It’s a visual narrative that combines motion and grace, intertwining car design with the elegance of maritime aesthetics.
The Spectre opts for a cleaner, more sculptural approach, avoiding excessive lines. Two defining lines – the ‘bow line’ and the ‘waft line’ – serve as key design elements and narrative features. The bow line guides the observer’s eye from the front wheel arch to the rear tail light, shaping the car’s form and emphasizing its powerful stance. The waft line, a fluid representation of movement, is reminiscent of a yacht slicing through the waves.
Together with the two-tone paint and the fastback roof, these lines create a tapering that mirrors a yacht’s stern, blending luxury maritime design and elite automotive architecture.
Rear Design – An Artistic Culmination
At the back, the Spectre’s design story reaches its peak. The converging bow and waft lines culminate at the tail of the Spectre, where the car’s yacht inspiration is arguably most evident.
Similar to the subtle taper the stern of a yacht might have, the Spectre’s rear haunches have a gentle inwards curve that draws the eye to the U-shaped tailgate, with the rear bumper featuring an otherwise clean, uncluttered design.
Another exciting feature is the transparent, art-deco style tail lamps equipped with a metal inset, with the company claiming the neutral finish, which allows the tail lamp design to work well with any exterior color.
Inside the Spectre: Rolls-Royce Craftsmanship and Innovation
Inside, the design focuses on superior craftsmanship and unparalleled luxury. This is apparent in the meticulous attention to detail and the use of high-end materials throughout the interior. One of the standout features is the Starlight Headliner, a distinctive Rolls-Royce feature that adds a mesmerizing, starry sky effect to the interior ambiance. This creates an ethereal and magical atmosphere within the car, making every journey a celestial experience.
Another unique element is The Gallery, a feature that beautifully marries art and automotive design. It provides a space for personalized art displays, allowing the owner to imbue their vehicle with a personal touch and aesthetic. Beyond visual appeal, emphasis is also placed on the tactile experience. High-quality materials and finishes are used throughout the interior, ensuring every touchpoint communicates the car’s luxury and craftsmanship. This enhances the visual appeal and contributes to a more immersive, sensory driving experience.
Supporting its grandness are formidable 23″ wheels, a first for Rolls-Royce, enhancing both aesthetics and performance. These wheels, adaptable for winter conditions with specialized tires, add to the Spectre’s versatility.
Entering and exiting the Spectre is truly elegant, thanks to the largest doors in Rolls-Royce history, measuring 1.5 meters. They allow for a graceful entry and exit. The effortless opening and closing technology mirrors the luxury of having a personal chauffeur, an expectation for any Rolls-Royce owner.
Color plays a vital role in the Spectre’s allure, with the introduction of Chartreuse, a vivid, eye-catching hue inspired by French liqueur, adding a mesmerizing richness to its appearance.
Each of these elements converges to create a vehicle that is not just a mode of transport but a statement of luxury and innovation, pushing the boundaries of electric vehicle design.
Spectre’s Performance and Range
Yes, the Spectre is entirely electric. It uses the same platform as the Cullinan SUV but with two electric motors that generate 577 hp and 664 lb-ft of torque. Despite the Spectre’s weight, the abundance of torque makes it hardly noticeable during a test drive at BMW’s Test Fest. It’s estimated to accelerate from 0-60 mph in a little over 4 seconds, a remarkable feat considering its 6,500-pound weight.
In its stride towards electric luxury, the Rolls-Royce Specter boasts a 102.0-kWh battery, mirroring the advanced technology in the BMW i7. This marks a notable step in the evolution of electric vehicles in the luxury segment. In fact, the driving range exceeds earlier expectations, offering an impressive journey of up to 291 miles on a single charge with its 22-inch wheel variant. This figure surpasses the initial projection of over 260 miles. The version sporting 23-inch wheels drops the range to 266 miles, showcasing the minor trade-offs between style and efficiency.
Meanwhile, the Black Badge edition of the Spectre, known for its heightened performance and bespoke features, offers a range of 280 miles with 22-inch wheels and 264 miles with the more prominent 23-inch option. These variations underscore Rolls-Royce’s commitment to providing choices that cater to the diverse preferences of its discerning clientele, balancing elegance, performance, and environmental consciousness.
The Spectre doesn’t just signify luxury but also represents changes in high-end car design. It combines electric power with the luxury and custom design that Rolls-Royce is known for. This shows that the brand can excel in the era of electric cars while maintaining its luxury and uniqueness.
The Spectre also features DC fast-charging capabilities, a standard that speaks to the modern luxury car buyer’s need for speed and convenience. However, in true Rolls-Royce fashion, where every detail is about personal luxury, it’s envisaged that many Spectre owners will opt for a more bespoke charging solution. The idea of a custom-installed charging system at one’s private estate aligns perfectly with the brand’s ethos – it’s not just about the practicality of charging but also about integrating this new electric age into the refined lifestyles of its clientele. This approach ensures that the experience of owning and charging the Spectre remains exclusive and seamless as the vehicle itself.
From my perspective, the Rolls-Royce Spectre EV, which starts at $422,750 and can exceed $500,000 with customization, is the pinnacle of opulent electric vehicles. It’s a remarkable blend of luxury, innovation, and environmental consciousness. The elegant design, blending the brand’s rich heritage with modern elements, is breathtaking. The Spectre shows that electric vehicles can be both luxurious and distinctive. The performance, particularly the impressive torque and range, challenges the usual limitations of electric cars, making it a joy to drive. The ride’s quietness, the quality of the interior materials, and the meticulous attention to detail all encapsulate the essence of Rolls-Royce. In conclusion, the Spectre EV successfully maintains Rolls-Royce’s commitment to its legacy while embracing the future. It was a thrill to experience.

Due to the international and fluid nature of the yachting business and the fact there is no global central industry listing service to which all charter yachts subscribe it is impossible to ascertain a truly up-to-date view of the market. We are a news and information service and not always informed when yachts leave the charter market, or when they are recently sold and renamed it is not clear if they are still for charter. Whilst we use our best endeavors to maintain accurate information, the existence of a listing on this website should in no way supersede official documentation supplied by representatives of a yacht.

Moscow parks – leisure, nature and historical
Moscow is the most green megapolis in the world. There are over a hundred parks and green spaces like gardens, squares and boulevards. You will definitely bump into a few of them wherever you go. Whether you are interested in memorial, historic parks, parks of wildlife or you just want to have a calm break from the speedy city life – city parks have something special for everyone.
Moscow leisure parks
The leisure Moscow parks are undoubtedly the most popular and famous with the locals and travelers. Today such parks provide a great number of exciting entertainments for Muscovites and city guests, adults and children.
The Gorky Park
Gorky Park opened in 1928 and was the first holiday park in the Soviet Union with playgrounds, a sports stadium, exhibition halls and attractions for kids. Today it has a fresh, vibrant appearance. The park features bike rental stations, a comfortable business area with Wi-Fi, an outdoor movie theatre and a greenhouse where you can buy fresh greens such as basil and lettuce. To contemplate the sky and the stars, go to the observatory and look through the telescope while listening to fascinating stories from astronomers. Enjoy many sports in the park: volleyball, handball, football or a peaceful jog around the beautiful surroundings.
Opened in September 2017, Zaryadye is the youngest on our list. Located just a few minutes away from Red Square, it includes various activities like the floating bridge with its thin V-form extension, an ice cave, also concert hall and an amphitheater. The entire territory of the park was divided into four zones of Russia: forest, steppe, tundra, and the floodplains.
By walking along the Moskva River’s bank from the Gorky Park towards Vorobievy Gory (Sparrow Hills) you’ll reach Neskuchny Sad («Not Boring» garden), a wonderful place in the Moscow center, one of Moscow’s oldest parks, charming slice of wildlife. The park mostly consists of pristine forest, dotted with old summer pavilions, ponds and quaint little stone bridges. There are a lot of opportunities for different activities lots of children playground, a ping-pong and chess clubs, football fields and tennis courts, horse riding, tree climbing and having rest in one of the nice cafes.
Hermitage Garden has always been known as an amusement, entertainment center with theatres, shows, cafes, summer pavilions, pergolas since 1830. Shalyapin, Sobinov, Nezhdanova – great Russian opera singers starred on the garden stage. Famous Russian composer Rakhmaninov conducted the orchestra. Sara Bernar, Maria Yermolova, outstanding actresses, played in the open air performances. Tolstoy and Lenin had a stroll in the garden. So lots of celebrities from different epoques liked it a lot and spent their time in Hermitage Garden. You can find here three theatres in the garden: Hermitage, Sphere and New Opera. During winter an ice rink works here and in summer a musical stage is assembled to host jazz and brass band festivals.
In Sokolniki Park visitors can play billiard, chess or draughts, table tennis, as well as go cycling, roller blading and swimming in the summer and ice skating or skiing in winter. Each season is highlighted by special memorable and bright events, for example, Summer Jazz Festival or Baby Fest (for future mums), open air beach disco parties, Ice Cream Day, International Clown Festival and many other shows and exhibitions. The park has an observatory, kids center and a co-working zone with free Wi-Fi which is really nice for spending high quality work time there.
Moscow nature parks
The nature parks are national reserves with the amazing forestry and incredible variety of animals and plants there. The breath of wildlife and the chance to be closer to the virgin nature excites both children and grownups. Hundreds of different species of animals can be found in Moscow nature parks. The richest woodlands with old and even ancient trees, like a 200 years pine-tree in the Elk Island National Nature Park, are the point of passionate interest for visitors.
Aptekarsky Ogorod (Apothecary Garden)
Aptekarsky Ogorod (Apothecary Garden) is one of the oldest gardens in Moscow. It was founded in the XVIII century by Peter the First (great Russian emperor). A larch that he planted himself still grows in the garden, so it’s more than 250 years old. At the time of its foundation, it was a garden with herbs and medicinal plants and was used as an educational center for doctors. Today there are the orangery with its tropical palms, the carp pond, and the immense trees that dot the landscape and turn wonderful golden shades in the autumn. Several restaurants and cafes work here making it a very nice spot for relaxation no matter what season it is. You can book a special tour or join the guided excursion group.
Losiny Ostrov (Elk Island Park)
Losiny Ostrov (Elk Island Park) is located at the north of Moscow. It covers 22 km from the west to the east and 10 km from the north to the south and it’s one of the most beautiful national parks in Moscow. Two rivers, Yausa and Pechorka begin here. You can find lots of fields, ponds, meadows, streams in the park as well as elks. Here you can enjoy guided tours, available in English. You can choose a guided tour about flora and fauna of the area, you’ll learn why elks are there, which animals are their neighbors. Or enjoy another excursion, which is totally devoted to historical past of ancient tribes once lived there, you’ll know about old Russian mythology, rituals and traditions.
Serebyany Bor (Silver Forest)
Serebyany Bor (Silver Forest) is a famous pine forest in the west of Moscow. The park has 230 forms of plant life, and is also home to watersports complex, providing a lot of activities for visitors. The layout of Serebryany Bor is unusual, as it is located on an artificial island between a meander in the Moscow River and a channel. There is an artificial lake, the Deep Gulf and picturesque Bezdonnoe (Bottomless) Lake in the depths of the forest. Serebryany Bor’s beaches are the cleanest in the city and very popular among Muscovites. On weekends it is difficult to find a free spot here, especially because a whole range of services are offered to visitors, from simple deckchairs to catamaran and yacht rides. Driving is prohibited on the territory of the island so be ready to use trolleybus to reach the entrance.
Greenhouse of Botanical Garden
Main Botanical Garden of The Russian Academy of Sciences is the largest and most famous is Moscow. The garden is a real museum of nature with a very rich (more than 18000 types) collection of plants. The park was founded in 1945 at the place of the 17th century Apothecaries’ Gardens. The garden’s collection is turned into botanical expositions, made with use of modern receptions of landscape architecture. Here you can see a tree nursery, a shadow garden, hothouse complex, collection of flowers, a rosary, exposition of coastal plants, garden of continuous blossoming, Japanese garden and expositions of cultural plants and natural flora plants. The biggest part of Garden is the Tree nursery occupying the space of 75 hectares. About 2 thousand wood plants grow here. Another big exposition of the Garden is nature Flora, divided into six botanic-geographical collections: European part of Russia, Caucuses, Central Asia, Siberia and Far East. Pride of the Main Botanical Garden is the collection of tropical, coastal and water plants, which is considered as the best in Europe. The Japanese garden, a great model of Japanese landscape gardening art has a 13-level stone pagoda of the 18th century, stone Japanese lamps, ponds, falls and streams, tea lodges and more than 100 species of the most character Japan plants. It is especially decorative in spring, during Oriental cherry blossoming and in fall, when foliage blazes in crimson colors.
Moscow historic parks
Historic nature parks and estates once were the mansions of the Moscow aristocracy. At that far times the estates were outside the Moscow city limits, but after the city expansion and urbanization, they became easily accessible.
Kolomenskoye Museum and Park
The chief attraction of the park is undoubtedly the stone Church of the Ascension of the Lord. It was constructed in 1532 by order of Tsar Vasily III to commemorate the birth of his son and heir, Ivan the Terrible. But there is a lot more to see in the park: the pretty Church of the Icon of Our Lady of Kazan – with its bright azure domes and plenty of gold. Further into the park there is a charming Church of the Beheading of St John the Baptist, built by Ivan the Terrible to mark his coronation.
Kuskovo Park is one of the oldest country estates in Moscow. It was given to General Sheremetev by Peter the Great in 1715, but was left to fall into neglect before being plundered by Napoleon’s troops in 1812. Nowadays the estate has been restored to its former glory and is a good example of Russian 18th Century imperial architecture. The palace is a fine and rare example of wooden neoclassicism. It was completed in 1775, and the rich interiors remain unchanged since 1779. It includes a room hung with exclusive exquisite Flemish tapestries, an abundance of silk wallpaper and an impressive collection of 18th century European and Russian paintings. The palace looks onto the lake, which is surrounded by smaller pavilions: pretty Italian, Dutch and Swiss Cottages, Blank’s Hermitage and the old Orangery, where the State Ceramics Museum is located now, an extensive and absorbing collection of porcelain from the 18th century to the present day. On the other side of the lake is a large wood popular with local cyclists and joggers.
