You awake in one of two master suites, one on the upper deck with 180 degree views forward and the other on the main deck. Head for the upper deck aft for a delicious breakfast before settling in the sun lounge aft to discuss the day's plans with the captain. If the morning heat is too intense, start the day in the air conditioned main saloon at the formal dining table and make plans in the lounge opposite.

After breakfast, the children race eagerly down to the portside swim platform where the deck crew has prepared all the watertoys for a morning adrenaline rush. Other guests may choose to work out in the gym, or for an easier start to the day, head for the sauna and hammam where there is a massage table too.

In the afternoon, while the captain sails you to the next amazing destination, enjoy a movie in the main deck cinema lounge or catch up on some emails in the private owner's office on the bridge deck.

As dusk falls in your new anchorage, take in the spectacular sunset with a sundowner in the foredeck lounge and toast another amazing day before sampling the chef's gastronomic extravaganza on the upper deck aft.

The classic exterior styling provides an abundance of outdoor space on the foredeck and main deck aft for entertaining and sunbathing, with the tenders and toys stored below deck. The upper deck aft and bridge deck aft are smaller and create a more intimate environment for close conversation with family and friends, as well as offering an excellent elevated position for observation.

The interiors have yet to be revealed, however, known amenities include a massage room, hammam, sauna, steam room and a fully-equipped gym in addition to a salon, dining area and the accommodation.

The 55.99-metre BLUE II yacht was built by Turquoise in 2020 and won multiple awards following her launch.

Despite her vintage-looking exterior, this luxury superyacht is at the cutting edge of comfort and technology. Her hybrid propulsion means lower emissions, vibrations and fuel costs and makes her much more enjoyable while underway.

Built to cruise the Atlantic and traverse the Northwest Passage, the sturdy BLUE II motor yacht is capable of cruising anywhere that takes your fancy.

Her interior, designed by John Vickers, has a simple palette of gloss-finished teak, white paint and soft beige upholstered panels.

Your BLUE II yacht charter can accommodate 12 guests in six cabins. There are two equal master suites: one on the main deck and one on the upper deck. The latter gives 180° views across the raised bow and a private office behind the bridge. The rest of the accommodation lies on the lower deck and comprises two doubles, one twin and one convertible cabin.

Yacht Facilities & Entertainment

The sky lounge of the BLUE II is perfectly designed to entertain multiple groups at once: there’s a sit-up bar for indulging in a cocktail or two, a lounge for relaxed conversations, and a backgammon table for board game fans.

Below, the main deck salon features a lounge on one side and a dining table on the other. This cosy space leads to a second lounge with an L-shaped sofa facing a television and a separate chessboard.

You’ll get plenty of opportunities to indulge in some rest and recuperation during your BLUE II yacht charter. You can start in the onboard gym before heading over to the wellness area to soften your tired muscles in the sauna and steam room.

When you’re feeling revived, you can head to the upper deck aft to join the rest of the party for an afternoon juice in the shade of the awnings.

Sun-worshippers will enjoy the sun deck of the BLUE II motor yacht. You can lie across the sunpads that line the aft railings as you look over the stern or stretch across the sun loungers for a slightly elevated view. Head down to the main deck forward to find more space to set up the sun loungers and a U-shaped sofa that’s perfectly placed for enjoying sundowners as you watch the sky change.

If it’s a pleasant evening, you can eat outside around the spacious dining table on the upper aft deck or head to the dining area on the forward sun deck.

Your BLUE II yacht charter will be overseen by a crew of 11.

A hydraulic swim platform makes it easy to get in and out of the water, especially when you’re tired from hours of watersports. BLUE II carries a wide range of toys, from waverunners, wakeboards and waterskis to sailing dinghies, kayaks and equipment for snorkelling and fishing.

She also carries a 9.5-metre chase tender and a seven-metre rescue tender, perfect for popping ashore or exploring shallower reefs.

The 160-metre yacht BLUE has been given a contemporary exterior and a traditional, fresh interior design, both by Terence Disdale Design. Efficiency and the desire to be as environmentally friendly as possible were key drivers for the technology on board. BLUE is equipped with a highly efficient Diesel-Electric Hybrid Propulsion Concept developed by Lürssen’s own engineering specialists. The yacht also has an electric Azimuth Pod Drive, which in electric mode can be used separately, or when the PTI units are engaged, with the two propeller shafts. In order to generate less noise and vibration and reduce nitrogen oxide levels, BLUE is completed with a state-of-the-art exhaust after-treatment system. Furthermore, the wastewater treatment plant is equipped with new membrane technology that allows the treated wastewater to be safely disposed of in ‘drinking water quality’.

Sneak peek: Interior of Turquoise explorer Blue II revealed

BOAT International has revealed the secretive interior of the 56 metre Turquoise Yachts -built explorer Blue II for the first time ahead of publishing an exclusive feature on the yacht.

Previously known as Project Lombok, Blue II first hit the water in Istanbul in May 12, 2020 after which it spent the summer cruising the Mediterranean.

Blue II's interior décor was developed by Hoek Naval Architects in collaboration with British design studio  Vickers . 

The interior features subtly classic touches and teak detailing throughout, with intimate cosy indoor spaces contrasting with the expansive open decks. Guests on board have a wide range of relaxation options on board.

In total, this 56 metre explorer yacht has an internal volume of 785GT spread across four decks.

Blue II's exterior design meanwhile comes from  André Hoek . 

While Hoek’s design is reminiscent of classic steam ships, the yacht itself is packed with all the latest modern technology such as a diesel-electric propulsion system.

Meanwhile, the state-of-the-art satellite communications dome is integrated into the composite funnel, while the canoe stern conceals an extendable boarding platform with retractable stairs for ease of access.

My dad died 2 years ago of this rare, fatal disease. I can't stop thinking about this moment.

I will never forget the moment my dad's eyes danced with recognition. One of the last times his bright blue eyes met mine and meant it.

The sun poured in that gorgeous spring day in 2022 and pierced the dozen windows of our living room. It lit up the light green walls, too, and illuminated the bright teal kitchen backsplash. Woodpeckers pecked the gray siding outside, birds chirped within earshot of every bedroom. A tire swing – long unused – hung in the side yard. If I listened closely, I could hear a younger version of myself asking Dad to push me harder. Faster.

The living room TV stared back at us. Blank. The news was usually on in the morning at this hour if someone was home. Dad was never here at this time on a weekday. But everything changed when he started showing symptoms of aphasia – yes, like Bruce Willis – that turned out to be the one-in-a-million, always-fatal neurodegenerative condition known as Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease (CJD).

He died weeks later.

"Dad, why don’t we go through the worksheet?" I urged. Like I used to when I was a kid and needed help with math homework. My 8th grade math "problem of the week" became our problem of the week.

But this time the worksheet wasn't mine. It was his. Homework from his speech pathologist. His aphasia kept getting worse, not better. He started forgetting things too quickly. The physician he once was became a too-distant memory.

Dad, do you remember your name?

"Hey Dad, what’s your name?"

“Mark,” he said. Right. Good.

“That’s right! What about my name?”

“Mark.” He said it like he was trying to say "David," but was defeated. No one prepares you for when your parent looks at you and can't remember the name that they chose. I had first experienced this a few days earlier during another beautiful spring day, on a walk through a park near my childhood home. I asked him my name after a trip around the large pond, after being warned he might not remember. I didn't look at my reflection in the pool. I couldn't bear the horror that would reflect back at me.

“No, I’m David," I stammered. "What about your wife’s name?”

“Mark.” No. Again. Lisie. Her name is Lisie. Your wife of almost 31 years.

“No. What color is this folder?” I asked, frustrated. 

“Yes!” My blue eyes lit up like wave pools and met his. He looked at me, but almost through me. Not totally registering my presence but not missing it, either. Like he was stuck between worlds.

The speech pathologist gave us this "red" trick. For whatever reason − one I’ll research another time − asking him the color of this red folder grounds him. Brings him down to earth from wherever his mind is at this point.

Maybe he’ll get better, I thought, every time he gets this right. But then I asked him to name objects around the house – a remote, a blanket – and we’re back at square one. Repeating the name “Mark,” or the color “red.”

His favorite song

“Dad, why don’t we listen to some music? Maybe ‘Take Five?’” He shrugged. I'm not sure whether he heard my question but either way it gave us both a break.

"Take Five," by Paul Desmond, is his favorite song. A jazz staple. I scrolled to my Spotify app and started playing it.

The drum beats began. Then the saxophone swung in, the star of the show. Dad played professional jazz in the Catskill Mountains of New York many years prior and wouldn't let anyone forget it. He played the clarinet, too, in a trio with a flutist and violinist, for decades. He often pulled out either or both instruments for family gatherings like Passover, for informal recitals. These memories swarmed my mind, musical notes leaping around like the plague of frogs.

“Da-da-da-duh-dah-“

He was … singing along? The same man who can't say my name, my mom's name, sometimes not his own name, knew the tune of "Take Five?"

He wasn't smiling. But he was singing. Somewhere, in the recesses of his brain that the CJD prion proteins were destroying, he remembered. Remembered playing "Let My People Go" at the Passover Seder with unnecessary (but beautiful) jazzy trills. Remembered visiting jazz clubs across New York City, probably hearing "Take Five" over and over again. Remembered reminding me to play the clarinet myself when I definitely haven't practiced, not once, even though my parents paid for private lessons.

He looked at me this time. Really at me. How was this possible? Why was this possible?

Did it mean anything?

How I think about 'Take Five' now

I wish it meant something. That maybe he was getting better, that the music would somehow shock his brain into working well again. That he could say "David" without hesitation like he did for nearly 30 years of my life.

What I gather it meant: CJD hadn't totally sucked the life out of him yet. The rapid decline was in full swing, of course, but it moved in slow motion too. In moments like this, both painstaking and poignant, melancholy and magnificent, terrible and true. Dad was dying but he was also still Dad. My dad.

We took a break once the song finished. His eyes returned to that stuck place. I filmed his humming, though, and I'm glad I did, so I can look back on it now. Do tears sting my eyes? Yes. But two years later, I press play on "Take Five" and think of him. Sometimes I hear it out in the world, and imagine him humming along. Or better yet, jamming on that saxophone.

Exclusive: 160m mega yacht BLUE delivered by Lürssen

After her inaugural launch in February 2022, followed by successful sea trials in April, the official name of the highly-anticipated 160m (525ft) Lürssen mega yacht has now been unveiled as superyacht BLUE as she gets ready to depart the German yard’s facilities in Bremen and head to the Mediterranean following the handover to her Owners.

The impressive 15,320 GT yacht features exterior and interior styling by the esteemed British studio Terence Disdale Design, while naval architecture comes from Lürssen ’s in-house team. Showcasing the yard’s pedigree sleek exterior contours, she sports a crisp white hull and superstructure with extensive glazing across her four upper decks, giving her a sharp and elegant profile.

Efficiency and the desire to be as environmentally friendly as possible were key drivers for the technology on board.

While few details thus far have been revealed, what we do know is that on-board features include a pair of helicopter landing sites, comprising a large helideck at the bow and a smaller helipad aft, as well as an extensive swim platform providing guests with seamless access to the water. This area also adjoins a beach club.

Motor yacht BLUE  boasts an array of al fresco relaxing and social living spaces across her decks, courtesy of her vast 22m (74ft) beam, as well as a crowd-pleasing Jacuzzi on her sun deck. 

Accommodation is rumoured to be for 48 guests across 24 cabins ensuring a variety of guest party configurations.

The superyacht will be the world’s 4th largest yacht, and 2nd largest in terms of gross tonnage, behind another Lürssen superyacht, DILBAR , which has a volume of 15,917 GT and was delivered back in 2016.
