My house smells like the Yacht Club lobby - hooray!

On our March 2010 stay at the Yacht Club, I fell in love (ok, became obsessed with) the smell in the lobby at the YC. Post trip, I did some research, and thought I'd share what I found--- The YC manager got back to me about my scent question. The scent is called Green Clover & Aloe . I think it is also used at Beach Club. The company who Disney buys their scent systems from is called Scentair - www.scentair.com . It's cool to look through the scents on their website, you can make good guesses of which ones are going to disney parks for sure! The company was founded by a former Disney CM! Smart cookie! Only companies can buy from scentair though. I called the company when I was investigating, and they confirmed that they are the ones who supply the scents into the rides also like Soarin, etc.. The company Enviroscent is a subsidiary of Scentair, and sells cheaper/smaller scent systems to the general public. I received my package yesterday and am SO EXCITED to have green clover and aloe in my house --- it brings me right back to that YC lobby! I was hooked on this since my first stay at BC...just canceled my orders since I am going to be out of work for a few months and need to save where I am able to. But yeah, makes the house smell so good!!!  

We bought a machine after our BC trip in 2008 and use that scent all year. Right now my budget doesn't allow the subscription because it's so darned expensive, but I hope to start it up again someday! We have more of the commercial version - they didn't sell that thing you linked when we bought it. The machine we have takes cartridges that cost $39/month!!

That is the same scent used at the AKV, Kidani, and after a 4 night stay, I came home at did the same thing you did. Love that smell.  

LOVE,love this scent, we had purchased this machine and scent 2 years ago, Beach Club all year round, and I also purchase other scents for the holidays.

Just purchased it. We stayed at Beach Club in Nov. and I feel in love with the smell there. Does anyone know if this is the same scent used at GF, because in June their lobby smelled wonderful as well. I couldn't quite tell if it was the same scent, but it was very similar. I can't wait to get it in. Brook1099, what holiday scents did you purchase and were they as wonderful as the beach club scent?

This question is for the OP, how many of the systems did you purchase? I'm asking because I only ordered one and I'm wondering how much of my house is it going to scent? My living room, foyer, kitchen, breakfast room and dining room are all open to each other and I'm wondering if one system will be strong enough to scent that entire area.

Walt's Wonderful World is the best sent ever! Now my home smells like the "happiest place on earth"

This is my third order from Columbia Fragrance and they have never failed me. This Clover and Aloe is exactly the scent of the Yacht & Beach Club at Disney World. This scent is just a vacation scent for me, my mom worked at Cape May for 40 years, so we were in the Beach Club a lot. This scent is part of who I am with memories of my mom. So when I tell you the scent is *exactly* right, I mean without a smidge of confusion for anywhere else in the world but Y&B. The 15 Most Iconic Scents at Walt Disney World

Disney World is WAY more than just a place you to go to hop on rides. There is loads of entertainment , characters , and activities that do everything to immerse you in the most magical world possible.

Part of that magic is created by the scents you’ll smell while you’re there . And once you’ve smelled those smells, you’ll never forget them.

Here’s our list of the most iconic scents at Walt Disney World.

Pirates of the caribbean.

Ask any guest to mention a smell from Disney World, and it’s likely that the number one scent mentioned is on Magic Kingdom’s   Pirates of the Caribbean . Instead of chlorine, Disney uses a chemical called bromine in the water, and that scent permeates the air in and around the ride.

It’s a damp and musty odor, and it just fits the attraction so well! We’ll never get tired of it.

Another iconic scent is the one wafting from the popcorn carts at Disney World. It’s also one of the first scents you’ll get when walking into the park (because there’s a popcorn cart right there on Main Street, U.S.A. ).

It’s a buttery, salty scent that makes your mouth water for something you can get just about anywhere but that somehow still tastes better at Disney World — mainly because that smell envelopes you.

Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort

When you walk into the Polynesian at Disney World, you can immediately smell a tropical sweet and flowery scent that makes you feel like you’ve somehow ended up in Hawaii, and it’s so NICE.

We love how Disney World hotels each have their own scents, too, but this one is one of our favorites. It just makes us think of days on a tropical beach sipping on cocktails with little umbrellas in them.

Disney’s Yacht and Beach Club Resorts

The scents at the Yacht and Beach Club Resorts are the same, but it’s — quite literally — a breath of fresh air, a breath of fresh beachy air. It’s crisp and clean, and you can imagine that the ocean is right next door.

What’s so interesting, too, is that it’s not a powerful odor, so you don’t notice it per se, but it’s just enough to make you believe that these hotels really are a yacht club and beach club.

Ye Olde Christmas Shoppe

One of our favorite stores at Disney World is Ye Olde Christmas Shoppe in Liberty Square at Magic Kingdom. There it is Christmas every day — not only with its merchandise but also with its smell.

It’s sort of a cinnamon and pine smell that makes us think of winter nights around the Christmas tree drinking hot chocolate and singing Christmas carols.

Soarin’

So we’re completely biased, but the smell of Florida and orange groves on Soarin’ fills us with such delight. Maybe it’s because it’s a familiar smell in Florida, and it smells just as real on this attraction.

This attraction has other scents — like the floral scent you get when you fly over the Taj Mahal, but our favorite is the orange.

Flight of Passage

Flight of Passage in Disney’s Animal Kingdom has several scents, too. But the best is the flowers you smell when your banshee takes a breather inside a cave.

We don’t quite know how to describe this smell, except that it’s pleasant and memorable. Somehow, Disney was able to create an alien-smelling flower, and it works beautifully here.

Spaceship Earth

There’s a scene in Spaceship Earth that depicts the burning of the Library of Alexandria, and the fiery scent of all those books aflame is one that our nostrils always remember long after we’ve ridden the attraction.

Who knew that the fall of a library smelled so distinct? And we have to admit we feel a little guilty that we like that smell. But don’t worry — we’re still appalled at the burning books!

It’s Tough To Be A Bug

If you’ve ever watched It’s Tough To Be A Bug at Animal Kingdom, you already know what smell we’re talking about here. There’s a part of the show where the stink bug unleashes his gas and, yes, it’s unpleasant.

And yet, it’s distinct, and one of those scents you’ll never forget. It may keep you from ever watching It’s Tough To Be A Bug again, but it’s certainly iconic.

Haunted Mansion

There’s a certain smell that old houses have that’s sort of like a sickly-sweet musty and moldy odor. And Disney has captured that perfectly with the smell inside Haunted Mansion. It’s so authentic!

It’s sort of like vanilla, but also has the scent of decay, mold, and mildew. And yes, we like it.

Journey Into Imagination With Figment

If you’ve never been “blessed” to smell a skunk, then you can just ride Journey Into Imagination with Figment at EPCOT to get an idea of what it’s like. Hint: it’s not a nice smell. In the “Smell” part of the attraction, Figment becomes a skunk and blasts riders with the odor.

Interestingly enough, though? The actual scent is the smell of burnt coffee (and not quite as bad as actual skunk…), which is also pretty rancid.

Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and Spa

We’re back at another hotel because the Grand Floridian also has a very distinct smell. When you walk into this resort’s lobby, it smells like summer — or what we think summer might smell like.

It’s like apple meets clover meets sunshine, and it reminds us of the lazy hazy days of June, July, and August. There’s nothing else quite like it.

Mickey’s PhilharMagic

There’s a scene in Mickey’s PhilharMagic that has a smell that makes our mouths water every time. There’s a freshly-baked pie in one scene, and the scent of fresh apple pie is pumped into the theater.

That scent is heavenly, and it makes us hungry every time. We almost feel like Disney missed an opportunity in not having some small hand-sized apple pies on sale nearby.

Living With The Land

We’re not gardeners, but the smell of EPCOT’s Living With The Land makes us wish we had green thumbs. It’s so fresh — the smell of oxygen mixed with fresh dirt, and who knew fresh dirt would smell so clean?

We love taking the boat ride through here and just breathing that extra-oxygenated air from all those plants. It’s refreshing!

Karamell-Kuche

One of the most wonderful scents at EPCOT is the smell that wafts out of the Karamell-Kuche shop in Germany. It’s the smell of caramel popcorn and caramel baked goods, and it is DIVINE.

Of course, that smell makes it nearly impossible to walk by there without going in and ordering something, but we have no regrets. That smell will get you every time.

So those are some scents that we will never forget even when we’re not at Disney World, but we’d love to hear which scents you find iconic, too!

Fresh DIRT and Oxygen SMELL in the AIR IS THE VERY BEST THEN The Smell of Freshly Laundered Cloths – and they Mix. Nothing Like It ! Makes you want a sniffer so u can Smell these Scents and Mixing them on and off, CAN MAKE YOU WANT NOTHING MORE – HUFFING THIS ALL DAY AND NIGHT – YOUR BRAIN WILL GO CRAZY OVER THIS !!!

I totally agree with this article but do you have any info if these ‘smells’ are continuing in resorts? We stayed this past week 8/23/22, have been countless times to Disney. The ‘smells’ in the parks were as strong as ever. However, our beloved POP Century smell was non existent? My daughter and I both love the smell and both noticed it. We asked a couple cast members but they were all new. It was a bit disappointing.

The Contemporary Resort has a great, unforgettable scent. The sweet smell hits you right as you walk in the door. It smells so good that I asked a Cast Member what scent they use. She told me, i found it and bought it.

Share with the rest of the class. What scent is it?? It would bring back such amazing childhood memories

You totally forgot the smell in the lobby of Bay Lake Tower. Not sure how you could since I know many people have actually purchased the scent through the company that makes it because the scent is so good.

The best smell in Walt Disney World ever was wood fired pizza on the boardwalk from Spoodles. I will forever miss it

Best Candles That Smell Like Disney Experiences – Roundup

I’m sure I’m not the only one that has wondered if there were candles that smell like Disney experiences. Well, I’m pleased to share with everyone that there is!

There are actually candles made to match nearly every scent that you experience at Disney. The good smells at least! XD

These fragrances are one of the things that really completes a Disney theme park experience.

Fragrances are actually piped in to certain areas and rides in the parks to give a multi-sensory experience that leaves a lasting impression on guests.

I know that whenever I’m lucky enough to visit a park, that’s one of my favorite parts of the entire experience, it really sticks with you. That extra attention to detail makes a world of difference.

Here is a video from Youtuber mrcheesypop on the “Smellitzers” (no, that’s actually what it’s called) used at Disney.

Can you buy the same fragrance machines that Disney uses?

If you want to get your space scented the way that the Disney parks do, you can buy fragrance emitting machines which can pump out a good amount of fragrance similar to what Disney parks do. However, the parks will be pumping scent directly through their HVAC systems and so it won’t be exactly the same thing.

It’s been known for a while that Disney uses a company called ScentAir to do many of their fragrances.

You can buy their home fragrance machines called the ScentAir Whisper, off Amazon , along with the fragrance cartridges used.

Below is a quick list of a couple of the fragrance cartridges that will match popular Disney scents!

• The Grand Floridian, Contemporary, Beach Club, and Yacht Club (all use the same scent)
• The Polynesian Village Resort

These machines are pretty expensive however, and so candles are a nice alternative.

The search for Disney candle dupes

You can go back through years of discussions online and find that there are a bunch of Reddit posts and forum discussions with people talking about the scents that Disney uses and searching for scents that replicate these.

Coastal Linen – By Opalhouse at Target

Coastal linen is a nice cheap candle that matches the general scent of flying through Pandora and the ocean parts of the ride quite well.

The thing with the candles made to replicate the scent of this ride is that none really match the cave portion of the ride. I find this part to be the most memorable fragrance and scent of the ride and so I wanted to pick a candle that matched that fragrance as well.

I found a few that would make an excellent combination to be burned alongside the coastal linen candle above if you really want to nail the exact scent of the ride with the cave-y smell as well.

D.S. & Durga – Concrete After Lightning

Leave it to D.S. & Durga to come up with an awesome and unique scent idea like this! While this candle is on the pricey side, I can actually attest to how good it smells. I love this brand. I love this candle. This is the best combo to go with that coastal linen candle to replicate the scent from the ride.

Grizzly Candles – Rain & Soil

While I’ve been coming back to update this post with current candle picks, I realized that Grizzly candles on Etsy has a few more candles that match perfectly for Disney dupes. For example, this one is just what I was looking for to match that Avatar ride in Animal Kingdom.

Petrichor – Camp Good Road

Petrichor is the scent of earth after a rain and I feel that this paired with the oceanic fragrance of the candle above will have you back in Pandora at the light of a wick (or two).

1.2 Smells Like The Haunted Mansion

If I’m being completely honest here, I can’t remember exactly what the scent of the haunted mansion was but if I was going to guess it would be that of a dusty attic. Like musk and old books , and of course, that smell of fog machines because I’m sure those were used.

I read some of the reviews of ‘haunted mansion’ candles and noticed a lot of people saying they had a sweet smell to them. I can’t think of what that would be unless they tried to soften the scent with vanilla.

1.3 Smells Like The ‘Be Our Guest’ Portion of Mickey’s Philharmagic

The smell that sticks out to me from PhilharMagic is the pie scene. I’ve got a couple choices for this one as well.

Farmers Market – Yankee Candle

There were a lot of people on the popular Disney discussion forum ‘Disboards’ who thought that this candle was an exact match for this scene in PhilharMagic. I went out and found it to give it a sniff for myself and I have to agree with them. It nails it.

1.4 Smells Like The Pirates of the Caribbean Ride

The main smell in all the water rides at Disney is Bromine. It is a chemical used to clean the water which is more expensive than chlorine but also has a more mild scent. The video below goes into this in much more detail if you are interested.

There are also various other scents thrown in throughout the ride such as gunpowder, but the bromine is the main scent that will be familiar to you.

The thing is.. you can’t exactly put bromine in a candle. Because of this, we are going to have to settle for something that closely resembles it. Something that I found which most closely resembled it was this candle from LuxIllume in their Circa 1955 line of Disney inspired candles. The 3 wick as usual, has the best fragrance throw.

We Wants The Redhead – LuxIllume

This is the candle that inspired them to make more Disney scented candles after this one was found to be reminiscent of ‘the water, musty fog machines, and a splash of the chemical scent from treating the water’ found in the Pirates ride.

Pirate Life® Or Splash – Magic Candle Company

Since I’ve come back around and given this blog post some love and updating, Magic Candle Company has really upped their scent game. Their Pirates dupe Pirate Life® has that lovely scent of Bromine and makes for one of the most accurate Disney dupes around. Just look at the reviews for this candle! They also have a newer scent called ‘Splash’ which smells of the musty water ride scent even more heavily which I think matches the Pirates of the Caribbean ride even better !

1.5 Smells Like Soarin’ Around The World + Over California

The prominent scent of this ride when it used to be Soarin’ Over California was the orange groves that you fly over. Now however, the ride takes you to places all over the world and gives you a variety of different scents throughout.

When it comes to the new Soarin’ Around the World ride, there are quite a few different fragrances that are s c ent your way (aha).

Here is another standout scent from the ride. The scent from this part is similar to many Flight of Passage candles and so you could also go with the pick I made for that ride as well.

1.6 Smells Like Spaceship Earth (Rome Burning)

If you’re familiar with this scent you’ll know that it’s pretty much what you’d expect. A burning smell.

For this ride, I found that lots of people universally agreed that Magic Candle Company nailed the scent with their ‘Rome Burning’ candle. But I’ve also got another pick that captures it incredibly well, but be warned, it’s a luxury candle!

While you might not enjoy having a smokey scent burning all the time in your house, it will match that part of the ride. So if that’s what you’re looking for, this is the one!

Feu de Bois – Diptyque

Not only is this candle one of our favorite luxury candles period, it is a candle that unintentionally nails the scent from the ride at Disney.

If you’re looking to dip your toe into luxury candles for a treat, give this one a try, I highly recommend it.

When you find yourself in the lobby of Disney’s Yacht Club Resort, walking on the shiny hardwood floors and looking at the antique navigational instruments, you’ll feel like you’re on a ship or an elegant 1920’s New England Yacht Club. You might be looking around the lobby for all of the Hidden Mickey’s or the giant Globe that was created specifically for the Yacht Club Resort.

If you’re entering the lobby of Disney’s Beach Club, you’ll feel like you’ve stepped into a casual sea-side resort. You’ll love looking around the pastel and beached themed lobby, complete with 24 foot high ceilings. Sit and relax in the wicker furniture throughout the lobby or take a walk and check out the sand castle art or seahorse fixtures.

But wait! What’s that smell in the lobbies?

Disney’s Yacht and Beach Club has a very specific smell and it’s actually the smell of Green Clover and Aloe .

Disney uses a scent generator from Enviroscent to spread the smell throughout the resort to bring the authentic feeling of actually staying in an east coast resort. Envrioscent works with many companies like Disney to create a scent experience for guests.

You can now take home the smell of Disney and purchase a scent machine and Green Clover and Aloe to make your house smell like Disney’s Yacht and Beach Clubs.

The Yacht Club and other resorts we were at were nice smelling, however the chekin lobby at the Contemporary was over-powering. Smelled like a banana wearing to much Channel No. 5. Everything above the fourth floor smelled like chocolate chip pancakes. That was nice.

Fellow Mouseketeers, I have checked into the the fragrance at the Contemporary Resort. The housekeeping staff confirmed that they use Enviroscents, Alas, Enviroscents only sells to commercial enterprises. They don’t have products for private residences. Too bad, I already checked. The fragrance at the Contemporary is lovely, though !

I believe this is the same signature scent Disney are using in all of their hotels to promote the 50th anniversary celebrations. I heard it is only to be used whilst the 5oth celebrations are ongoing so get it while it lasts!

Best Disney Scented Candle Companies (Our Top 5)

I was sitting here looking around online to see if there was much discussion on this topic. Primarily because it is always something we tend to discuss right after we return from a trip to Disney World. There is a handful of companies that make Disney scented candles, so I set out to find the best of the best.

I love the smells of the park in particular. One of my favorite parts about the parks are all the different smells depending on what resort you’re in, what part of the park you’re in, or what ride you’re on. I just I can’t get enough of those fake Disney smells that are pumped in from a five-gallon bucket somewhere backstage! (Actually, they are)

So who makes the best Disney scented candles? Well, that’s purely subjective. It’s the nose of the beholder that makes that decision. But we’ve found 5 magical companies, in particular, that will take your senses right back to Disney World. Whether it’s the smells of the bakery while walking down Main St. USA in the Magic Kingdom or the smells of the Polynesian or something even more unique. These companies seem to cover the gambit of every smell that you are missing on a daily basis when you get home from your Disney trip!

Magic Candle Company

Magic Candle Company was one of the first Disney scented candles we purchased. I was absolutely shocked to find out how on-point their scents were and how well they can fill a room. They have smells from Disney resorts , rides, foods, you name it. These scents bring you right inside Disney and will help you reignite that Disney vibe you had while you were at the resort. The metal containers that these came in were absolutely perfect. Most candle companies do not ship in metal containers. Which in turn means fewer problems with broken candles arriving after being shipped to you.

Secondly, they have wood wicks. Wood wicks are insanely easy to use. The flame is horizontal while burning so your candles will achieve a melt pool much quicker. That means that your candle scent will fill a room much faster than any traditional candle. There is also no mushroom and minimal carbon buildup while burning. Big kudos to Magic Candle Company on the pure construction of their candles, let alone their wonderful scents. We have fallen in love with so many of their scents that it can be tough to pick a favorite. Pirate Life is one of their top sellers and it is for good reason. I was skeptical at first thinking it would smell like damp water but it has quickly turned into a family favorite in my house.

Wishes Candle Co. feeds two of my obsessions awesome smelling candles and Disney pins! Each candle has it’s own mystery Disney pin inside! Yes, they are usually scrap pins that you would trade off inside the parks. But honestly, that’s perfect because then you aren’t actually going out hunting to buy Disney scrap pins that you can trade in the parks.

Wishes claim to be handmade from wick placement to wax pouring and even label placement. They also claim to be vegan, made of soy, grown in the United States, with 100% cotton wicks.

Wishes prices are very attractive and typically are $28 for a 16 oz. candle (plus shipping). They have some very particular scents like Bag of Beignets and Life’s Bare Necessities which is a very fruity mix.

Formerly Anthology candles and they were well known for their Disney candle sets. These guys are really well known for their Disney food scents. I’m here to tell you, that if you are a Disney foodie like myself then these candles will definitely ignite your hunger for the parks. Candles, wax melts, and tea lights are their primary offerings, but the offerings they have are different than the norm in my opinion (which is good!).

Spireside offers scents like a Churros fresh from Epcot or Pineapple Delight, which smells just like a dole whip from the Poly! Their scents are fantastic and spot-on, but their prices aren’t so great at $36 plus shipping for 16 oz. candle. I’m not solely convinced on the “you get what you pay for” analogy in this case. That is unless you are looking for a scent that only they carry. Which is very plausible since it would appear that not too many other places carry the same amount of Disney parks food smells that they do.

3 Cheeky Chicks Wax Co.

I have to admit. I have a soft spot for this company since they are friends of friends. But they don’t know that and so I’m going to be as honest as I can with my review of their product and what they have to offer.

So, with that said right up front here’s what they offer. Handmade wax melts, candles, room sprays, and tea lights. …………

Wait a minute…..  did you say Room Sprays??!!

Yes, they offer some of the most spot-on room sprays that you can buy. I have to say that we use the rooms sprays in the car frequently. There’s nothing like driving home after a stressful day and spraying some Ohana or Hang Glidin (Soarin themed) in my car! Psst: 3 Cheeky Chicks… if you ever make air fresheners ( email me ). They also offer Pirate Water (like every other Disney creative candle company out there on the planet) which is supposed to be scented after the water on the pirates of the Caribbean ride.

Now their site isn’t too implicit on exactly what the largest size of candle they offer is. But from what we can gather their largest candle size is 8 oz. and costs around $14.40 plus shipping. Not awfully priced, but not cheap either. We feel you get what you pay for with the sprays more than any of their other products. But we have never burned one of their candles in all honesty.

Hotel with the best pool complex at Disney World: Review of Disney's Yacht Club Resort

When you think of a Florida theme park hotel, I'd bet you probably don't think of deep, rich colors, hardwoods and a refined turn-of-the-century, New England-style nautical-themed resort.

And when you think of a hotel pool, you likely don't conjure up images of a 3-acre waterpark complete with a life-size shipwreck replica that is home to a long, twisting, turning waterslide.

But all this, and actually a lot more, is precisely what you'll find at what has to be one of the best hotels at Disney World , Disney's Yacht Club Resort. In fact, when we picked this resort for a short Florida getaway, we actually considered not spending any days in the Disney theme parks to go along with it. We amended that plan for one day at Epcot, but it wouldn't be unreasonable to do an entire vacation here without getting on a single ride. In this case, the resort could be the destination.

Disney's Yacht Club (1990) opened in the same era of rapid Disney World development as Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort (1988), and both share a type of ocean theme. However, the two couldn't be more different from one another. With just over 600 rooms (compared to more than 1,500 at Caribbean Beach), this deluxe Disney resort offers guests a vacation within a vacation both in terms of comfort and amenities.

After a recent stay at the property, it was all I could do to not add another night when the time to check out unfortunately arrived. And while not everything is postcard-perfect at this Disney resort at the moment, I promised myself (and my kids) we'd be back. It's that special.

Let's start with some bad news: Disney's Yacht Club is often expensive.

This is one of Disney's deluxe resorts and there is no Disney Vacation Club wing of this hotel. This means you can't rent DVC points to potentially book a room for less the way you can at places such as Polynesian Village Resort. (Note that you can do this at the neighboring Beach Club Resort.)

If you can snag a room during a sale or with a solid discount, you can probably get the rate down to $350-$400 per night, but it's unlikely to go much lower. It's common for rooms here to go for $500 and up, especially once standard rooms are sold out and you need to pay even more for a water view, which is precisely what I had to do. The view itself is (in my mind) not actually worth an upcharge, but sometimes that's all that's available.

While I booked during a 30% off sale, my water-view room at the Yacht Club still came to just over $500 per night. There are some ways to use points for Disney World vacations , such as using miles from the Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card to offset the expense at a 1 cent = 1 mile valuation , but there's no way to get outsize value for your credit card points at Disney properties.

If you do decide to book a Disney resort like this one, it can make sense to go through a Disney Vacation Planner as that doesn't add to your cost and they do a great job staying on the lookout for sales and discounts and keeping track of all those ever-changing components of a trip to Disney World.

No doubt it sounds a touch insane to spend $500 for a theme park-adjacent hotel room, but the location is one reason why Disney's Yacht Club commands that rate (and often sells out).

This hotel is just a 5-10 minute walk from the World Showcase entrance of Epcot. It is also within walking distance of Disney's Hollywood Studios, or you can hop on a boat to take you there since that walk is a bit longer.

Being so close to Epcot also means that the Skyliner stop at Epcot is within very easy reach, opening up even more Disney locations such as the Riviera Resort , Caribbean Beach Resort and more.

Yacht Club is also an incredibly short stroll away from the BoardWalk, which is home to even more shops and restaurants.

I'm happy to save money and stay off Disney property on the first night of the trip, or for trips when we aren't going for an all-in Disney family vacation. But when we do go all-in on Disney World, I want to be in the "Disney bubble." Staying at Yacht Club puts you in the heart of the Disney bubble, well-cushioned in your own deluxe nautical-themed space, but just an arm's reach from lots of great Disney dining and entertainment options.

We arrived at Disney's Yacht Club in the early afternoon, after starting the vacation off with a character brunch at Topolino's Terrace at the top of the nearby Disney Riviera Resort . (Which I highly recommend you add to your to-do list if you love characters and can snag a reservation.)

Since we arrived a few hours before official check-in time, I didn't have high hopes our room would be ready, given the era of pandemic precautions, but that became the first pleasant surprise of the trip when Room 2077 was ready and waiting for us several hours early.

Check-in is also where we were informed that while room service has returned as an option for breakfast and dinner, regular housekeeping had not yet returned to Disney resorts . Towels and trash would be attended to every other day. For our two-night stay, that meant there would be no formal housekeeping services, though we could ask for more towels and such.

If you are able to manage stairs, you can easily access the second level of the resort — where we stayed — via the lobby without using the elevators.

In fact, heading up the lobby stairs reveals some fun touches, such as a ship's wheel, among other themed decor.

Our room was a bit of a walk down several hallways, so if that's an issue, ask for a room closer to the lobby if available.

Inside a room at Disney's Yacht Club, you aren't going to find bright colors, Disney characters or loud decor. If that's what you want, I recommend Disney's Art of Animation , which has plenty of color and characters.

Yacht Club was renovated in recent years to appeal not only to traditional Disney vacationers but also to conventiongoers who frequently stay at the resort during normal times. And in this case, everyone won with a redesign that maintained the overall theme but upgraded the offerings.

The rooms still carry out the resort's high-end nautical theme, but in a way that is elegant and more refined than the previous 1990s-era version.

Like with other Disney resort upgrades, the beds are now raised and the floors are now hard instead of carpet. As Disney renovated rooms across its properties, this has been the standard it is changing to.

There's a pullout sofa that can be used as a sleeper and a small writing desk.

Most notably, there were outlets everywhere. We travel with a lot of things that need charging and we didn't come close to using them all up. Some furnishings may be made to look like turn-of-the-century New England, but they are loaded with modern-day power.

The two queen beds were perfect for a good night's rest after a busy day at Disney.

In the room, you'll also find a minifridge and Keurig.

We were impressed with the amount of storage the room had in the form of shelves, racks, cubbies and drawers. We were able to stay far more organized than normal with a family's worth of stuff, thanks to the storage options.

There was a balcony with two chairs that overlooked a well-manicured green lawn and technically some water. Remember, this was a pricier water-view room after all.

I adored the drapes, both because they did a great job keeping light out in the morning but also because they were adorable and perfect for the room, featuring constellations.

Like at many other similar Disney resorts, the bathroom had a vanity with two sinks located in a cubby between the main room and the bathroom, so it could be used while someone was in the shower.

The bathroom area had a sliding door for both the room itself and the tub/shower combo. There were plenty of Disney H2O+ bath products in the shower and bathroom area.

We found the room incredibly nice, but do know that it doesn't take much to hear what's going on in the hallway or other rooms around you. If you like total silence, you'll be well-served to pack some earplugs and a white noise app to go along with your Mickey ears.

The Yacht Club room is plenty comfortable, but that's probably not why you stay at Disney's Yacht Club — it's certainly not why we paid what we did to stay here.

Stormalong Bay pool complex

What makes this resort so special is the 3-acre pool complex shared with the neighboring Disney Beach Club Resort.

Dubbed Stormalong Bay, this pool complex has everything from a 230-foot waterslide to a lazy river, whirlpool, shallow splash area, toddler slide, hot tubs and more. It even has a sandy bottom in some of the areas, which feels so much nicer on your tired Disney feet than a hard surface.

This pool area is almost a mini-waterpark and certainly worthy of planning some time in your schedule just to enjoy it. Right now, it can get busy to the point where there is no way to get in during peak times.

However, we had a blast also going late at night after the parks closed, when there were very few people in the pool at all. While the hours can vary, it was open from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. during our stay.

There are four cabanas at the pool you can book if you want extra space and service, but you need to reserve well in advance if you want those because they go quickly.

Getting into the pool requires verification you are a resort guest and you're then assigned the colored wristband of the day to wear. There's plenty of towels at the pool, as well as a small army of lifeguards keeping a close watch on the various areas of the pool.

Stormalong Bay is adjacent to Hurricane Hanna's Waterside Bar & Grill, so it's pretty easy to pop over there and order a snack or cocktail. The $12 seafood roll turned out to be a perfect snack for us.

My 11-year-old gave the $6 Lava Smoothie (made of raspberry, coconut and pineapple flavors) high marks and my $14 Frosé was excellent.

Whether your group is made up of adults, some teens, tweens or toddlers, this pool area is truly excellent, especially if you build in some time to enjoy it when most people are sleeping, eating or in the Disney parks.

Evening movies on the beach

Several nights per week at 8 p.m., a Disney movie is shown along the "beach" at the Yacht Club. This is free to enjoy and the week we were there the films showing were "Zootopia," "Sleeping Beauty," "A Bug's Life" and "Disneynature: Earth."

I'll never fully understand who needs a treadmill at Disney when it's normal to walk 10 miles a day in the park, but Yacht Club has those and more in its gym that overlooks Stormalong Bay.

Magical Express Bus

Until the end of 2021, if you want to take the included Magical Express Bus transportation to and from the Orlando airport, that's available to those who stay at this and any other full-fledged Disney resort hotel. If you decide to self-park at Yacht Club, it's going to cost you $25 per night. The upside is that the fee also gives you access to parking at the Disney theme parks at no additional charge.

The Magical Express Bus stop is right in front of the hotel entrance, and the bus stop to go to the various Disney theme parks is just to the side of the hotel entrance.

Still-closed amenities

If you remember when I mentioned there are still some small bumps at Yacht Club, here's where they begin.

Those looking for the ultimate, once-in-a-lifetime Yacht Club experience may want to hold off a tiny bit longer if you want to experience all the amenities. The Club Lounge remains closed, as does one of the main sit-down restaurants.

On top of that, the onsite Ship Shape Salon is still closed, along with the Lafferty Place Arcade.

Normally, you can rent boats or even sign your kids up for a pirate-themed adventure that leaves from the dock outside of the Yacht Club, but all of that is also still on pause.

We had plenty to do for a few days without any of those amenities, but just keep in mind that some things remain shuttered for now.

Ale & Compass Restaurant

Just off the lobby of Yacht Club is a dark, subdued restaurant called Ale & Compass. While you do need reservations to eat breakfast or dinner here, it's one of the easier reservations to get at Disney World.

Described as "Yankee comfort food," this menu has options such as lobster-and-corn chowder; a fantastic salad called the Ale & Compass salad with additions such as pumpkin seeds and beets; steak; pasta; and a burger with bacon and Vermont cheddar served with thick fries.

Getting good photos in the dark restaurant was next to impossible, but we enjoyed our salad and burger.

And while we didn't eat breakfast here, I've heard good things about the dark chocolate waffles.

Our service here was quite friendly but incredibly slow. The wait for our reservation was pretty extensive, followed by another wait for a server to arrive at our table to start the meal-ordering process. This is likely at least in part due to the restaurant having a brisk business of to-go orders that you can make from the Disney app, along with the other sit-down restaurant at the hotel remaining closed.

Ale & Compass Lounge

Another alternative to the restaurant is the adjacent Ale & Compass Lounge, which also has a sleek, updated, but pretty dark look once day turns to night.

In the back of the lounge is a bar, with the front portion offering a variety of seating options and a reduced menu that still includes the burger and chowder.

The Market at Ale & Compass

In the gift shop area of the hotel is the Market at Ale & Compass, where you can order grab-and-go options in the Disney app.

We tried the $12 breakfast bowl that had a little bit of everything on it and was actually almost enough food for myself and two kids for a quick pre-park breakfast.

The $7 ham and cheese breakfast sandwich on a pretzel roll also looked really solid.

In the afternoon and evening, you'll find a variety of sandwiches, a hot dog and a panini on the menu.

Beaches and Cream Soda Shop

If you're going to splurge cash on staying at the Yacht Club, I highly recommend also splurging some calories at Beaches and Cream. You're going to need to make a reservation here well in advance (dining reservations are accepted 60 days before your trip) or get very lucky.

We planned our trip pretty close-in and were never able to snag advance reservations, but got lucky with timing that they had an outdoor table available for us to order the most exciting item on the menu ... the Kitchen Sink.

This $35 sink of ice cream is made of eight scoops (vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, cookies and cream and mint) along with every single topping in the house. Oh, and there's also an entire can of whipped cream on top.

It's epic, huge, ridiculous and a lot of fun.

The three of us barely put a dent in it but certainly had fun trying.

There are more regular-sized ice cream options on the menu, too, but if you're doing a once-in-a-lifetime trip, try this once-in-a-lifetime dessert.

Should you want more than just sugar for your meal, this is also where you'll find burgers, sandwiches, chili and other 1950s classic-style treats.

Yachtsman Steakhouse

This second sit-down restaurant has not yet reopened, but when it does, this is where you can go for those post-convention expensed sales dinners ... or a very nice meal out for two. The menu features a $135 seafood tower, prime porterhouse, lobster, filet mignon, elk, lobster and other similar entrees that start around $50.

Overall impressions

I'm a total and complete sucker for a well-themed, well-located Disney World resort. Resorts such as this one, along with Disney's Polynesian Village Resort, Disney's Wilderness Lodge, Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge and others, have me hook, line and wallet.

For me, the resort hotel isn't just a place to sleep at night, it's also a destination much like the theme parks themselves. I enjoy the scent in the lobby, the storyline of the property, the Disney touches throughout and the convenience of being fully immersed in Disney magic.

While my kids vetoed the idea, I'd have been totally happy having Disney's Yacht Club Resort serve as our actual final destination for the weekend with no park time at all. However, since it is such an easy walk to Epcot, adding that park on was actually a whole lot of fun, too.

If what you want is just a decent bed close to the parks, don't stay here. You're probably overpaying to stay at Yacht Club if you don't truly value the Stormalong Bay pool area. You can stay at the next-door Disney Swan and Dolphin for a fraction of the cash if you're just after location.

And right now, with some amenities still closed, I don't recommend staying here if you are going to be upset when things aren't 100% full service and perfect. The prices are as high as ever to match demand, so don't expect a reduced price to match the reduced amenities.

But if you can overlook a few things and what you want is a fun, slightly grown-up hotel theme, a great location, access to the best resort pool at Disney World and easy access to multiple restaurants, Disney's Yacht Club Resort is now officially one of my favorite Disney hotels — and one that I can't wait to return to in the coming years.

Disney’s Yacht Club Resort ~ Literally a Sweet Stay

During the first 4 days of our trip to Walt Disney World, we stayed at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort. This Deluxe Resort it’s in closest proximity to both Epcot and Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

It’s right beside sister hotel, the Beach Club, and designed and decorated to remind guests of New England’s Yacht Club.

As soon as you walk into the lobby, cast members are dressed in nautical theme and always with a smile and helping hand. One of the things I will always remember about Disney’s Yacht Club is the distinct sweet scent of the lobby. Each time we entered the building, I couldn’t help but smile and take a huge breath, inhaling my surroundings and taking pleasure in where I was.

I asked one cast member what the scent was, and he said that many asked but few actually know the concoction that they pump in through the air conditioning. He politely excused himself for not being able to tell me, but we did have a lovely conversation otherwise. Once I mentioned I was there for the Disney Social Media Moms Conference, he laughed,

“Oh, a blogger! Well, a rightfully curious and knowledge-seeker you certainly are. If I’m right about you, dear, you’ll find out the recipe for that scent in no time”.

Alas, after posing my question to a few more cast members, one did know. And find out, I did!

Turns out they scent the air with Green Clover and Aloe. And after doing some research on this blend when I got home {yes, it was STILL on my mind}, turns out you can purchase a similar scent generator to use in your house {I’m seriously considering this}.

The resort was one fabulous place to stay, one which I wouldn’t hesitate to stay again. It has a wonderful pool area called Stormalong Bay, complete with pirate ship with a waterslide down the mast and real soft white sand surrounding the main pool.

There are also smaller/quieter pools and kiddie pools, with a pool-side snack shop and lifeguards.

Restaurants, shops and many other amenities are right there, offering guests anything they could ever need. For kids, there’s something to see at every turn from the Disney Classic movies shown on the Lobby TV to the super-fun huge globe that was made just for this resort. Indeed the kids felt at home just as much as the adults.

Walk toward the beautiful lighthouse and there is boat transortation right there on the dock. Leaving every 10 minutes, guests can travel to Epcot, the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin hotels, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and Disney’s Boardwalk resort {bus transortation is available just as often, to the other areas of Walt Disney World}.

Special touches of Disney magic were everywhere. Years later, I know I’ll fondly recall the sweet scent of Disney’s Yacht Club Resort along with the pleasant conversations with cast members during our stay. Just the same, each finishing touch into the resort, provides guests with the ultimate seaside experience. Indeed a ‘sweet’ resort to stay while at Walt Disney World.

This resort looks pretty sweet. While the lobby and rooms look impressive, I think my favourite feature is the pool with all that sand. Who needs the beach? I mean, the fact that it’s so close to Disney’s Epcot and Hollywood Studios is just an added bonus. And do the characters will talk that way? LOL

The ‘real’ characters {princesses etc} DO talk like you’d imagine. Yet the mascot-type characters like Mickey, don’t talk at all. But, they dance, jump and really use gestures well. And YES! it was my first time seeing a sand-bottom pool, the kids LOVED playing ‘at the beach’!
