10 things to do on a yacht charter during the Dubrovnik Summer Festival

Dalmatia Region

This is one of the most popular regions for yacht charters in Croatia. Located on the southern coast, its made up of 233 miles of coastline, islands, and reefs, and includes the must-see historic towns of Split and Dubrovnik , as well as hundreds of stunning verdant islands and national parks.

Croatia's second-largest city – its "crown jewel',  Split  has a history dating back to the 4th century. It is also home to the beautiful Roman  Diocletian's Palace , a top recommended destination for your tour.

Split also boasts some of Croatia's largest marinas, and is within shooting distance of the celebrated islands of Korčula , Hvar , Vis, and Brač . Visit the world-famous Zlatni Rat beach on Brač's southern side, or sample the vibrant nightlife and clubbing scene on Hvar, which also plays host to several regattas over the summer season. Further south is  Dubrovnik,  a UNESCO World Heritage site of huge architectural prominence.

Istria Region

Located in the north of Croatia, this region has a distinctly Italian feel to it, and has plenty of fantastic places to visit. Pula, the region's capital, is crammed with museums, which isn't surprising given its history that dates back to 3,000BC.

Across the water, lies the Brijuni National Park , a group of 14 small picturesque islands easily accesible from the mainland. Slightly to the north, the beautiful old fishing port of Rovinj is also well-worth a visit, with its steep cobbled streets and charming piazzas.

Travel south to historic Zadar , where you can enjoy a quiet walk along marbled streets and pine-scented beaches. Further south you will find the Kornati archipelago , a group of 100 or so relatively barren islands and reefs which are perfect for swimming and snorkelling.

Croatia’s stunning coastline and idyllic verdant islands have made it one of the most popular regions for Mediterranean yacht charters . To truly experience the magic of this country, here are our tips on the places you must check out when you charter a yacht in Croatia.

Don't Miss:

  • Game of Thrones tour - through parts of Old Town, Dubrovnik where some of the most memorable scenes were filmed.
  • Dubrovnik Summer Festival  - see dramas, plays, classical music concerts and much more.
  • 360˚ Dubrovnik - Michelin-starred restaurant built into the walls of the old town, with exquisite views over the harbour.
  • Diocletian’s Palace  - UNESCO site within the walls of Split’s historic and thriving town.
  • Franciscan Monastery - Visit Hvar’s 15th-century monastery and museum that overlooks a shady cove, and meander charming gardens that feature a 300-year old cypress tree.
  • Plitvice Lakes National Park - one of the oldest and largest national parks in Croatia.
  • Zlatni Rat (Golden Horn) - located on the southern coast of Brač, regularly listed as one of the top beaches in Europe.
  • Blue Grotto, Bisevo - situated in the central Dalmatian archipelago, this waterlogged sea cave has an intriguing glowing blue light that appears at certain times of the day.
  • Pula Arena - one of the world’s six largest Roman amphitheatres, and certainly it’s most well-preserved.
  • Visovac Monastery - situated on a tiny island in the Krka National Park.
  • Mljet National Park tour - takes guests to the area of the first protected ecosystem in the Adriatic.

Avid island-hoppers seeking solitude love a Croatia yacht charter itinerary. Of approximately 1,185 islands just 66 are inhabited, making the unfettered beauty of its isles, inlets and bays ripe for exploration. Among these wonderful islands to explore are the verdant gems of  Hvar , Vis, Korčula , and Brač.

But yacht rentals in Croatia are also ideal for guests seeking impressive designer shopping, exquisite wineries and glittering nightlife in its main cities.

croatia yacht charter cost

Culminating from Illyrian, Roman, Venetian, Christian, and Austrian empires all competing for Croatia’s ownership, Croatia is home to an astoundingly rich cultural heritage. This makes for a fabulous yacht charter: from the Venetian palaces and designer boutiques of the jet-set haven of Hvar; to the Benedictine beauty of the UNESCO-listed walled city of Dubrovnik; to the Italian infused architecture and cosmopolitan ambiance of Pula and beyond.

As one of the most popular destinations for yacht charters in the East Mediterranean , there should be plenty to choose from when it comes to luxury yachts for charter in Croatia. If you’re unsure about whether you want to book a motor yacht or a sailing yacht for your Croatian getaway, there are a few things you should consider first.

Motor Yacht Charters in Croatia

Whether you are interested in a small or large motor yacht, or somewhere in between, you should find a Croatia luxury charter that will more than meet your expectations. With a luxury motor yacht you can truly relax; soaking up the stunning scenery, or scuba diving reefs and wrecks under clear aqua waters, or taking a tender ashore to explore ancient Roman palaces and monasteries, as well as sampling the local cuisine and wines.

You should note that berth/slip options in Croatia for larger yachts (over 50m) are limited, however, with plenty of safe and tranquil anchorage spots to choose from amongst the numerous islands, islets, and reefs around this Adriatic hotspot you will be spoilt for choice.

Sailing Yacht Charters in Croatia

The Adriatic enjoys an average of 315 cloudless days a year, and with winds in Croatia generally around 10-20 knots, this can make chartering a sailing yacht a great option to explore the picturesque islands and secluded beaches at your leisure. The winds do tend to get stronger in the fall, so bear this in mind when booking your charter.

There should be ample sailing yachts, gulets (traditional wooden yachts), and catamarans for charter in Croatia, but we do recommend booking early to secure your perfect yacht and desired itinerary.

Gulet Charters in Croatia

Gulets are traditional wooden boats originating from Turkey , but are now widely available throughout Croatia and Greece . These types of boats offer a fantastic and cost-effective alternative to a luxury charter yacht, for those wishing to spend a bit less but still enjoy a fabulous yacht charter in the Mediterranean .

With so many options available, there’s something to suit every type of budget in Croatia. The average prices for motor yacht and sailing yacht charters in Croatia are as follows;

  • For motor yacht rentals in Croatia, prices can range from $32,000 to $1,8m per week plus expenses
  • For luxury sailing yacht rentals in Croatia, prices can go from $32,363 to $582,882 weekly plus expenses

Child playing in the sea during a yacht charter in Croatia

The optimal times for yacht charters in Croatia’s sapphire-hued waters span from May till October. During this time, you can benefit from calmer seas, reliably clement weather, and warm swimming temperatures. Croatia’s peak season is July and August, so expect both higher charter fees and packed marinas in these months.

There are a variety of options, although most yachts charters tend to begin in Dubrovnik or Split in the Dalmatia region, both of which have major international transport links. Another popular option is to set off from Italy or Montenegro and then cruise the Adriatic down towards the Kornati a rchipelago or along the Dalmatia region – encompassing 233 miles of coastline stretching from Krk to Lastovo .

Croatia has numerous must-see destinations and you will be hard-pushed to fit them all in. For itineraries along the southern Dalmatian coast, some yachts may spend a day in port in Dubrovnik – ‘the pearl of the Adriatic’ – before setting off for the picturesque surrounding archipelagos, which include the popular island destinations of Hvar , Mljet, Vis, and Brač . You can either finish your yacht charter back in Dubrovnik or continue on to finish up in Split – the cultural and economic center of Dalmatia.

For yacht charters in the north of Croatia, many like to begin in Venice or Bari, located in Italy’s Puglia (or Apulia) region, before crossing the Adriatic to Croatia's Istria region. From here you can explore the popular island of Pula , with its world-class Roman amphitheater, before cruising down towards Zadar and the Kornati National Park .

Alternatively, you can begin in Porto Montenegro – only an hour’s drive from Dubrovnik – although you may have to cover the cost of repositioning as many luxury charter yachts in Croatia are based in Split.

It’s simple enough to begin your superyacht vacation in a neighboring country before heading to Croatia. For more advice please speak to your yacht charter broker .

sample itineraries

We recommend finishing your luxury charter in Split, Croatia's second-largest city and one of the most popular superyacht hotspots on the Adriatic. Renowned for its pristine beaches and crystalline waters, plus with a vibrant mix of things to see and do, you'll be in for a treat.

Glittering blue marina in Croatia

There are hundreds of harbors, marinas, and ports in Croatia, so whether stopping off in Dubrovnik or sailing to the far side of the Lastovo Archipelago National Park there are sure to be facilities or an anchorage to suit your needs.

There are 56 official marinas along the Croatian coast from Umag to Dubrovnik. Some of out top picks include;

  • ACI Marina Dubrovnik – located within a short distance to Dubrovnik’s historic old town. It has 380 slips and can accommodate yachts up to 60m/196ft. For larger yachts, or yachts not requiring a slip, another popular option is to utilize the international cruise ship terminal quay, which is happy to facilitate yacht charter pick-ups and drop-offs.
  • ACI Marina Korčula – ideal for a stop off at one of the many island destinations on your yacht charter, we recommend this sheltered marine, which accommodates yachts up to a maximum LOA of 40m/131ft.
  • Lumbarda Marina – also on Korčula this marina has slips catering to yachts up to a max length of 25m/82ft.
  • ACI Marina Vrboska – located in the celebrated islnad of Hvar, this marina offers berths for yachts up to a max length of 30m/98ft.
  • Cavtat Marina – If you're struggling to find a slip in the summer, we recommend this marina, which is located to the south of Dubrovnik and enjoys good shelter from all winds. It offers 119 slips for yachts up to a max LOA of 60m/197ft.

Some of the best ports in Croatia are also located in the Istria region in northern Croatia. We recommend;

  • D-Marin Dalmacija – located a few kilometers south of the ancient city of Zadar, which is the largest marina in Croatia with 1,200 berths and can accommodate yachts up to 80m LOA.
  • ACI Marina Rovinj – catering for yachts with a LOA of up to 25m/82ft
  • Marina Funtana – max length 20m/65ft.

For larger berths in the Split-Dalmatia region:

  • ACI Marina Split –  located in the heart of Croatia's "jewel" this marina has recently been modernised, offering great shopping, dining, fuelling and repair services to name but a few, alongside 318 protected berths that can accommodate superyachts up to 90m LOA.
  • Marina Kastela – just 7km up the coast from Split – which can accommodate superyachts of up 150m/492ft in length, with a draft of 8m.
  • D-Marin Mandalina – located in the city of Šibenik, situated between two National Parks within a protected lagoon, this marina boasts 429 slips, and has also been specially developed to accommodate yachts of up to 140m/459ft LOA.

Dubrovnik's glittering blue waters and old port

With its rich cultural and architectural history, along with lush national parks and secluded beaches, Croatia is fast becoming one of our most popular destinations. Therefore, we advise you to book your yacht charter well in advance of your trip to secure your perfect yacht on your preferred dates.

If you leave it too late, the selection of yachts at your disposal will be reduced and you may not be able to explore the destinations you have your heart set on. Plus, finding dates when everyone in your charter party is available can be tricky; the longer you leave it, the more challenging it will be.

Your yacht charter broker will also need plenty of time to tailor an itinerary to suit you, and enough time to book ahead for the nights you wish to spend in marinas. We recommend booking up to 3 months in advance to give your broker the optimum time to organise everything down to the last detail.

Croatia Yacht Charter Q&A

Some important things to consider before booking your yacht;

  • Yachts tend to spend more time at anchor in Croatia, so you need to consider that when choosing your perfect yacht. Ideally, find a yacht that is comfortable with ample leisure and entertainment facilities onboard.
  • Avoid heading into Dubrovnik when the big cruise ships are in town, these vessels can hold some 3,000 passengers and the town can become uncomfortably crowded.
  • You should also be aware that certain zones in Croatia's waters forbid fishing or diving, or require special permissions to do so. This is something you can discuss with your yacht broker, or yacht captain when deciding on your itinerary.

There should be a wide selection of yachts to choose from, so there is sure to be something that suits both you and your budget.

Croatian Gulets, traditional wooden yachts with wide beams that offer spacious deck areas and generous accommodation, are a fantastic and cost-effective alternative to a luxury charter yacht. Gulets are available to charter for around €13,500-€15,000 per week, which usually includes food and up to 4 hours cruising per day.

Gulets are also perfect for family charters, or those who simply enjoy spending their time out on deck soaking up the beautiful surroundings of this stunning region.

Why not visit our yacht charter fleet page for a comprehensive look at all yachts available for charter around Croatia.

Alternatively, you can reach out to your preferred yacht broker , who will be sure to help you find your perfect yacht and itinerary around the dates that suit both you and your guests.

The perfect time for yacht charters in Croatia is between May to October, with average temperatures in the mid to high 20s, calm sapphire seas and endless days of glorious sunshine.

You should note that Croatia's peak season is in July and August, so expect both higher charter fees and crowded marinas during these months.

Most charters tend to begin in the beautiful historic towns of Dubrovnik or Split before continuing on to the celebrated islands of Hvar, Mljet, Vis and Brač. Alternatively, you can begin in Montenegro in the south, but you should note there may be additional re-positioning fees to pay as most yachts are based out of Split.

Another option is to begin your yacht charter in Venice, Italy then cross the Adriatic to Croatia's breathtaking northern region before cruising down the coast to Zadar or Split.

Once you have decided on your perfect yacht, your yacht broker will then draw up the necessary contract; a legally binding agreement between you and the owner of the yacht. At this point, based on the type of contract, you will be required to pay 50% of the cost of the yacht up front, with an additional 25-30% of this base rate to cover additional expenses you and your guests are expected to incur whilst on charter.

For more information about the costs of chartering a yacht, please read our helpful guide:  Yacht Charter Costs Explained , which describes the fee structure in more detail.

Croatia Yacht Charter Guide

Croatia Ma

Visitors to Croatia are typically impressed by the sheer beauty of this island country, represented by a combination of lush greenery, fantastic history, numerous UNESCO heritage sites, rich culture, fresh Mediterranean cuisine and a lively atmosphere. There are many ways of exploring this Eastern Mediterranean paradise, but there is only one way of exploring it in a true style, ultimate luxury and unprecedented comfort - and that is by means of a Croatia yacht charter. Among the favourite yacht charter destinations in the Mediterranean , Croatia provides travellers on luxury superyachts with a wide selection of various activities, breath-taking destinations, fine cuisine and friendly, welcoming locals.

The Cost To Charter a Yacht in Croatia:

Croatia yacht charter prices vary according to the size, style and age of the yacht. Our luxury superyacht charter yachts in Croatia rent from 30,000 Euro to over 1,000,000 per week, plus expenses, in the form of an advanced provisioning allowance (APA). Conversely, smaller 'all inclusive' type vacations cost between Euro 15,000 to 50,000 per week.

Top Croatia Luxury Yacht Charter Highlights:

Lovers of island-hopping will get their fair share when visiting Croatia. And what better way to explore islands than by yacht? With hundreds of unspoiled islands along the Dalmatian coast, there are plenty of hideaways as well as vibrant hot-spots to choose from. Whether you are into a bustling night-life or secluded anchorages, Croatia has everything and anything for all. The Northern Adriatic and the Kornati Archipelago generally offer more serenity with the Southern Croatian coastline being livelier and more energetic. Here's an introduction of the main spots to consider visiting:

FUN IN THE WATER

Yacht charterers travelling to Croatia will find a huge selection of beaches, from small coves with pebbles and rocks through to beautiful secluded sandy beaches that can only be approached by a boat. The sea is crystal clear and, as opposed to many Mediterranean coastlines, still teaming with underwater life - so get your snorkelling and diving gear out and ask your Captain and crew for the best areas to explore under water. As well as diving and sunbathing, there are plenty of other water activities to engage in. Luxury yachts available for rent in Croatia all include a good selection of various water toys which are at guests' disposal. Yacht tenders, jet skis, water skis, donuts, bananas, water slides and other toys can be found aboard these vessels - please, ask our brokers for the full list of amenities and extras aboard your preferred boat.

MOUTH-WATERING EXPERIENCES

If you are passionate about fine cuisine and wine, be prepared to indulge in a variety of Mediterranean produce and dishes while on your vacation. One of the perks of hiring a Croatia based yacht is having your 'personal' chef on board. Superyacht Chefs are accustomed to creating high-quality dishes made of the best and finest ingredients on the market, and often source fresh produce from the local growers and producers. They are highly trained individuals with years of training and experience in fine-dining restaurants or five-star hotels. Prior to embarking on your holiday, in order to create a personalised menu and stock up on all necessary ingredients, you will be asked about your meal preferences, allergies, intolerance or desires. Croatia coastal region is mainly represented by fresh seafood and fish, accompanied by fresh salads and various vegetables, and the use of locally produced olive oil. The dishes are often paired with fine Dalmatian wines from the local vine-growers and producers. You will find a large Mediterranean influence and a wide variety of dishes to choose from.

CROATIA'S UNESCO HERITAGE SITES

Renowned for its rich culture and heritage, Croatia is home to seven sites that have been added to the UNESCO World Heritage List. First one is the Episcopal Complex of the Euphrasian Basilica in the Historic Centre of Porec, with the earliest constructions dating back to 313. The basilica features outstanding mosaics and tiled illustration. The Cathedral of St. James in Sibenik is the second site on the list and represents a cultural mix of Northern Italy, Dalmatia and Tuscany of the 15th and 16th centuries. Trogir, situated northwest of Split boasts beautiful Romanesque churches and Venetian-era Renaissance and Baroque constructions. Split's Diocletian's Palace is another UNESCO monument and a historical complex built in the 3rd and 4th centuries by Roman emperor Diocletian. Moving onto the island of Hvar, although unknown to many tourist, Stari Grad Plain is also on the UNESCO list. This is an ancient stone wall that divides the land into twenty-four plots of grapes and olives, which have been continuously used for the past 2400 years. The Old City of Dubrovnik is also popular with discerning yacht charter tourists, with its Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque churches, monasteries and palaces, as well as fabulous atmosphere, lovely cafes, bars and a vibrant nightlife. The seventh UNESCO Heritage site are the Plitvice Lakes, located inland Croatia.

NATURAL PARKS IN CROATIA

There are numerous beautiful natural parks in Croatia well worth visiting when holidaying on a Croatia superyacht charter. Located on the western coast of Istria, National Park Brijuni consists of two larger and twelve smaller islands. The islands, in addition to their astonishing natural beauty, are renowned for their important cultural heritage which goes back to the Roman and the Byzantine eras. Represented by 140 islands, islets and reefs, the Kornati archipelago draws visitors, and in particular sailing and boating enthusiasts, thanks to the distinctive shapes of reefs and crags, and the imposing high cliffs.

Mljet National Park on the island of Mljet is perhaps the most significant protected area on the Southern Dalmatian coast. Mljet island is regarded as one of the most alluring islands to visit in Croatia, with the 12th century Benedictine monastery being one of its cultural heritage attractions. Krka with its seven amazing waterfalls is another famous and popular national park in Croatia, which deserves a day-trip inland. In addition to the waterfalls, historical monuments such as the Franciscan monastery on the little island of Visovac and the Krka Orthodox monastery are also sought-after attractions for visitors. Renowned for peculiar karstic formations - Hajducki kukovi and Rozanski kukovi, the Northern Velebit National Park offers biggest selection of flora and fauna in Croatia. There is also a pothole Lukina Jama (Luka's pothole) or a lovely botanical garden to visit.

Northern Velebit National Park is a fantastic place for hiking and trekking, offering unparalleled views of the Kvarner islands from the trail. Plitvicka Jazera is perhaps the most famous Croatian National Park and only one of eight on the UNESCO World Heritage Sites list. The park is made up of sixteen small lakes joined by waterfalls and surrounded by dense forests. Plitvicka Jazera (or Plitvice Lakes) is located inland Croatia and can be visited on a day-trip. Another Croatian natural wonder is the Plaklenica National Park where yacht charterers with passion for hiking and tracking will find their peace. Plaklenica is renowned for its two gorges - Velika and Mala Plaklenica, as well as for its interesting karstic forms, caves and lush flora and fauna.

Croatia Yacht Charter Prices in 2024 | Croatia Yachting Charter

Croatia Yacht Charter Prices in 2024 | Croatia Yachting Charter

In Croatia, yacht charter prices typically range from 1,000€ for a small sailboat to over 15,000€ weekly for a luxurious motor yacht. Costs vary significantly with the yacht's size, season, included amenities, and charter extras.

If you are a first-time charter, the charter pricing might be a bit confusing, since it depends on many factors. Read this guide to make your budget planning a lot easier.

When planning a budget for your charter holiday there are a few things to bear in mind. First and foremost, the prices listed in the price list and/or the website usually cover the costs of a vessel rental, all navigation and safety equipment, dinghy and bed linens.

Yacht Charter Costs in Croatia: what, when, how, where

What, when, how and where you choose to charter can make a difference to the overall charter cost. There are several factors which affect your charter costs:

  • what type of yacht do you charter
  • which period you charter
  • when you book your charter (look out for early-bird and last minute discounts )
  • which region did you book to charter and in which marina
  • whether you are a bareboat or charter with a crew.

For example, an older model sailing yacht is cheaper than newer models and catamarans, and motorboats are the most expensive.

What factors affect charter prices in Croatia?

Yacht model, size & age.

In most cases, motor yachts are the most expensive, followed by catamarans and sailboats . It is important to consider the age of the yacht. Younger boats cost more to charter , so the difference in price between a brand-new boat and a 3 years older one can be quite significant. It is important to mention though, that the older boat if properly maintained can provide you with almost the same quality of accommodation and navigation performance.   It should also go without saying that in this instance, size  does  matter.

Yacht Charter Period and Seasonality

WHEN you book and charter a yacht influences the price Very often the price is listed without discounts, so you might want to pay attention to Early booking and Last minute offers. Your sailing holiday will be cheaper if you book your yacht during off-peak periods.

Yacht-Charter-Period.jpg

Early booking offers usually last until the end of January and can go up to 20%, and Last minute offers start around three weeks before the charter period and can go up to 35%! It’s worth noting that even though the Last minute can save you more money, the choice of yachts is very limited, so you might not spend your holiday on a preferred yacht.

Also, prices are subject to seasonality , with the high season periods in July and August having the highest prices , and lowest in the early pre-season and late post-season. So, the idea of booking outside the peak season might be a great choice. Not only it's cheaper, but also provides a better choice of yachts!

Charter Region and Marina

Prices of a week of the charter may differ with the choice of charter region , so don’t let it surprise you. If you’re not set on a certain sailing area, this might be an idea for saving. You can sail wherever you want anyway. The same applies to the choice of charter marina .

Charter Type - Bareboat, Skippered or Crewed Yacht Charter

Skippered-Bareboat-charter-type.jpg

There are many perks of having a skipper onboard!!

If you have all the  required licenses  and wish to bareboat , this saves money. If you wish to hire a skipper, hostess or chef, this is an extra cost on top of the charter price.

  • Skipper , approximately 1,000 – 1,400  €  per week (plus food)
  • Hostess , approximately 1,000  € per week (plus food)
  • Chef , approximately 1,400 € per week (plus food)

Note: these costs do not include gratuity for the crew. Yachting Association standards suggest 5 – 15 % of the charter price for gratuity.

Other costs not included in charter fees

Mooring, anchorage fees and national parks.

Mooring costs also vary depending on the marina and harbour . Some of them are more popular and get far more visits than others, so reasonably they charge more. The size and type ( catamarans are usually more expensive) of the chartered yacht also affect the mooring price. You can check their web pages to explore the prices for the desired location, date and boat. It is also possible to make a reservation for your spot but bear in mind that it might cost extra.

The mooring and anchorage costs depend on the size of the yacht, sailing period and location but here is an idea of the costs you can expect:

  • Berth in marina , 50 – 70  € per day (for yachts up to 45 feet)
  • Berth in marina,  700 – 110  € per day (for yachts of over 45 feet)
  • A berth in town ports   50 – 80 € per day
  • Mooring buoys   approx. 20 – 60 € per day
  • Anchorage in Croatia is free , except in bays which have mooring buoys or concessions
  • National Parks;  entrance fee is required for all yachts. For yachts up to 17 m, entrance is approx. 80 – 90  €, IF you pay in advance (online), it can be almost twice the price if not. Another tip: it is cheaper to book for multiple days if this works for your itinerary.

** Note: the berth costs given are for monohulls; catamarans are typically 50 – 100% more.

Fuel consumption

Fuelling costs depend mostly on the sailing route you choose. If you’re chartering a sailing yacht you can decrease the fuel consumption significantly. Use the wind and sail in the morning and afternoon when the sailing conditions are most favourable.

This cost is again dependent on the size of the yacht/model/engine. It also depends on how much you use the generator and sail – the more you sail, the more budget-friendly!

  • Sailing yachts  up to 45 feet,  approx. 150 – 200  € per week
  • Sailing yachts   50 feet plus , approx. 200 – 350 € per week
  • Catamarans   up to 45 feet,   200 – 300 € per week
  • Catamarans   45 feet plus,   approx. 250 – 500 € per week

Food and Drinks

Food-and-Drinks.jpg

Make sure to prep your pantry!

This is an area where you can significantly reduce your costs. For those on a budget, the beauty of chartering a yacht is that you can  cook all or most of your meals aboard . Plan your budget accordingly and stick to it. Tip: buy your water and drinks for the week at the beginning of the trip, and food for the first two days – fresh produce you can buy daily on the islands (this reduces food waste). Also, if you are eating out, it is cheaper to eat out for lunch than dinner.

  • Eating out : lunch approx. 15 – 20  € per person,  dinner approx. 30 – 50  € per person
  • Crew : if you hire crew, they need to have three meals per day – at least one cooked (aboard or in a restaurant). If you don’t wish to include your crew in the meals you prepare on board or take them to restaurants, it’s expected of you to offer them additional money, as you are responsible for their food.

Price calculation for an average yacht charter in Croatia

This isn’t a complete list but hopefully, it gives you an idea of costs and helps you budget for your sailing holiday in Croatia. For more information or details, please feel free to  contact our dedicated team at Croatia Yachting.  Now, time to  plan your route !

What is included in the charter fee?

When booking your yacht charter,  included in the charter fee  is yacht rental for the requested period, navigation and safety equipment, dinghy and bed linens.

What is not included in the charter fee?

Services not included in the charter fee are: fuel costs (yacht must be returned with full tanks of fuel and water), tourist taxes, mooring and anchorage costs, final cleaning, crew, food, additional equipment (i.e. water toys, gennaker/spinnaker etc.) and excursions.

How much is a charter in Croatia?

Yacht charter costs in Croatia can range from around 1,000 EUR to over 10,000 EUR per week , depending on factors like yacht type, season, and additional services like skipper or hostess. This wide range accommodates various preferences from smaller sailboats to luxurious motor yachts, with additional costs for essentials and extras.

Sailing Croatia

Without a doubt, Croatia can be described as one of the best  kept secrets of the European sailing destinations. Sheltered by the  chain of the Dinaric Alps, its endless coastline is covered with  pristine beaches and charming medieval towns. A Croatia yacht charter is  a wonderful choice whether you are looking for a relaxed sailing  vacation with your family, or an exiting sailing adventure with your  friends. This region has many secluded islands and islets, along with a  wide variety of comfortable marinas. You can choose a boat charter in  Croatia with easy hops or longer, more challenging passages.

A Croatian sailing vacation offers a wonderful chance to explore  ancient ruins and historic cities, to stay for a night in a secluded  anchorage, or to visit traditional fishing villages - all of this in one  of the most beautiful landscapes in Europe.

Yachting is one of the most popular forms of recreation in Croatia,  thus numerous catamarans and sailboats can be seen all over the  coastline. Croatia yacht charters are well developed. Here you will find  one of the biggest European chains of modern marinas with berths for  yachts and catamarans from 30 to over 100 feet long. Anchorages,  moorings, and marinas have all the necessary amenities and are located  within a few miles of one another. In addition, while sailing in Croatia  you will find many free moorings near family restaurants where you can  sample local wines and fresh seafood right on board your own yacht.

The Adriatic coastline can be divided into three counties: Istria,  Central Dalmatia and South Dalmatia. Yacht charters in Croatia are  available all along the coast. Below are some useful tips for selecting a  boat rental in Croatia that will help you find the perfect time and  place for your dream sailing trip.

North Croatia Sailing – Istria County

North Croatia Sailing – Istria County

July to the middle of September is the best time for a yacht  charter in the northern part of Croatia. During this season the water is  warm and most days are sunny, while the prevailing wind is mild  mistral. In early spring and late autumn this area may be prone to bora,  strong local northeastern winds.

One of the most convenient places to start a North Croatia yacht  charter is in Pula, the city closest to the international airport.

During your sailing vacation in the northern region of Istria, we  recommend a visit to the former Tito`s state summer residence, his  favorite safari park in the Brijuni Islands, to walk under the ancient  pines of Mali Losinj and to sail under the picturesque Cres Island  bridge. The stunning view of the ancient Rovigno City and its main  landmark, St. Euphemia Basilica, can be seen only from the water. If you  are looking for a more challenging sailing passage in Croatia, you may  like to head from Pula directly to Venice. Within a several hour journey  you will find yourself along the Italian coast.

Southern Croatia boat rentals – Dubrovnik County

Since ancient times Croatia has had great strategic importance,  thus over the centuries various civilizations and cultures have left  part of their legacy and influence, creating a rich and diverse culture.

Sailing along the southern Adriatic Coast of Croatia is recommended  for sailors with moderate to good sailing experience. In this part of  the country, good weather and fair winds last longer into the season, so  you can explore the sights and enjoy the beauty of the Adriatic coast  until late autumn. The climate is typically Mediterranean, with hot, dry  summers and cool, wet winters.

Dubrovnik sailing vacations

A yacht charter in Dubrovnik, the southernmost region of  Croatia, offers a great variety of comfortable marinas and secluded  moorings. The medieval city of Dubrovnik is called the "Pearl of the  Adriatic" and because of its long history of maritime trade, has played  an important role since ancient times. Today its blend of historic  architecture and modern cafes and nightlife make it a fascinating  destination.

The rugged coast south of Croatia is a great choice for sailors who  value stunning scenery and historical sites more than the distance  passed. What could be better than having breakfast on board your yacht  near an ancient fortress of an old town

During a yacht charter in Croatia, you won't want to miss a visit to  Mljet National Park and the golden island of Sipan. There you will find  stunning vistas of the Dalmatian Islands and enjoy a landscape covered  with orange and tangerine trees, palms, agaves, Renaissance parks,  flower gardens and medieval stone buildings.

Sailing in Split area

The Split area is one of the most popular Croatia yacht charter  destinations. Located only 10 minutes from the airport, it attracts  sailors from all over the Europe. A Split yacht charter is an easy  starting point for a sailing vacation in Croatia, with open access to  the most stunning destinations and secluded islands.

Within a 7-day Croatia yacht charter you will be able to visit Hvar,  an island popular for its exclusive cafes and bars on the Adriatic,  learn how to extract marble on the island of Bra, visit famous Korula  island, the birthplace of Marco Polo, and soak up history and culture  with Renaissance cathedrals and ancient monuments while walking the  ancient streets of Trogir.

When sailing in the Split area do not miss a chance to visit the  waterfalls located in Krk National Park, a gorgeous destination any time  of year.

Overall, a Croatia yacht charter offers an ideal mix of history,  exquisite Mediterranean cuisine and unforgettable sailing opportunities.  With excellent infrastructure, short passages and calm waters, Croatia  yacht charters rival any other sailing destinations in the world.

It is also a perfect country for those who are looking for an unforgettable sailing adventure in Europe.

What yacht charter are you looking for?

Croatia yacht charter.

Croatia has undergone a remarkable transformation into a luxury yacht charter destination over the last decade. WHY CHOOSE A YACHT CHARTER IN CROATIA?

Hvar Marina, Croatia

Emerging Luxury Charter Destination

Over the last decade, we have seen Croatia completely transform from a post-Communist bareboat destination to a premier luxury yacht charter location .

This transformation has been fueled by significant investments in infrastructure, services, and amenities tailored to the needs of luxury yacht charterers. We now have a Croatian coast full of  luxury marinas offering berthing for large vessels, as well as other facilities directed at the luxury charter industry.

Cheaper & Less Crowded

One of our biggest emphases on Croatia yacht charters is that it is both cheaper and less crowded compared to other popular yachting destinations in the Mediterranean. While we are seeing prices of luxury motor yachts and catamarans slowly climbing, Croatia still maintains a notable price difference of 15%-25% in most niches, compared to other destinations.

Additionally, we highlight the country’s lower VAT rates on charters, set at just 13% for weekly charters, contribute to its cost-effectiveness.

Allowing Charter Groups of 12-25 Guests

Croatia’s legislation is uniquely accommodating to larger groups, allowing us to offer luxury yacht charters and Gulets with 12-25 guests —a rarity within the European Union. The only other destination that allows for group charters of this size is Turkey.

This flexibility opens up opportunities for larger gatherings, whether it be extended family vacations, corporate retreats, or special celebrations, all within the picturesque backdrop of Croatia’s cruising ground.

Croatia,

Over 1000 Islands & many UNESCO Sites

With over 1000 islands and a magnificent coastline packed with historical towns, there is no shortage of wonderful anchorages to be explored. Croatia offers opportunities for a wide range of itineraries suiting all kinds of charter vacations whether it be with family, a partner, or a group of friends.

The country is home to several UNESCO World Heritage Sites , including iconic landmarks such as Dubrovnik’s Old Town, Diocletian’s Palace in Split, and the historic city of Trogir.

TYPES OF YACHT Charters in Croatia

The following are the main categories of yachts available for charter in Croatia: luxury yachts, motor yachts, power catamarans, sailing yachts, and more. You can choose from various crewed yacht charter options within these categories. All yacht charters are customizable in terms of charter itineraries, onboard services, and activities, to suit the preferences of each client.

WHAT TYPE OF CHARTER YACHT SHOULD I GET?

For those opting for ultimate luxury and speed , we always recommend chartering a Motor Yacht in Croatia. The Dalmatian Coast is home to Croatia’s largest marina, accommodating large motor yachts and super yachts with ease. Docking at Dalmacija Marina among many of Croatia’s finest Yachts, is a remarkable experience in itself.

The Motor Yachts in our catalogs are typically locally owned , and often captained by the owner himself or the owner’s son. This is a huge benefit guaranteeing a top charter experience based on extensive experience and local knowledge . When you book your Motor Yacht Charter with us, you can be sure that you are in the best hands.

There are several reasons for catamarans’ growing popularity in Croatia, one of which is their benefits in comfortable cruising. Catamarans are stable and graceful on the water and we therefore often recommend them for people who suffer from seasickness .

Their efficient design makes them noticeably faster than most sailing monohulls and their shallow draft is a significant advantage allowing for navigating in shallow waters and the option to anchor much closer to the beach. Lastly, catamarans are great for their roomy living quarters making them ideal for corporate team-building events, family charters, or a summer vacation with a group of friends.

Yacht Rental in Croatia Costs

When it comes to setting sail in Croatia, the cost of your trip will depend on a variety of factors. From the length of your stay and the type of experience you desire to the season and choice of yacht , all this can affect your expenses.

Luckily, Sebastus Sailing offers a variety of charter sailing options and excursions so you can tailor your trip to your budget. Let’s break down how some of these costs can be calculated:

Croatia Yacht Charter Prices

Yacht charter Croatia prices fluctuate from season to season but also depend heavily on the type of boat you want. For example, a luxury yacht charter is going to cost more than renting a boat or a more simple sailing yacht.

Generally, yacht charters are between 1000€ and 10.000€ per week. However, you can also opt for other experiences on smaller boats. Here is a breakdown of common prices in Croatia:

If you’re renting a motorboat in Croatia, the price can similarly vary from 80€ for a smaller boat up to 500€ per day for a bigger boat.

If you are looking to rent a sailing boat in Croatia it will cost from 160€ per day for a smaller sailing boat and up to 700€ per day for a crewed sailing boat.

Renting an all-inclusive catamaran vacation in Croatia can vary from 300€ per day and goes up to 900€ and more for crewed bigger and more luxurious catamarans.

Luxury yacht rentals in Croatia start from 2.500€ per day, but can also go up to 20.000€ per day.

As you can see, the size of the boat you want for your getaway can greatly impact the price of your trip.

croatia yacht charter cost

Seasonality

When you travel can also affect these prices. Croatia enjoys a Mediterranean climate of hot, dry summers and cool, rainy winters. Summer temperatures range on average from 26 to 30°C in the coastal region which contributes to the high season months being July and August.

When renting a yacht in Croatia the prices soar during the summer months. They can be anywhere from double to triple the cost of travelling during the mid-season. In May, June, September, and October yacht rental costs are lower and the weather is still nice and warm in Croatia, just a little windier.

During the winter months, you will likely not find Croatia yacht charters available because the weather is not accommodating. You can follow the weather forecast at https://meteo.hr/index_en.php

If you’re like the majority of people, you will likely need a crew of some sort to help you sail the Croatian coast. However, you can choose a bareboat charter if you hold at least one specified sailing certificate. This may help lower your costs.

Chances are, however, that you will need a certified skipper. A captain will safely navigate you around the Croatian islands as you sit back and relax. For the ultimate luxury experience, you may opt for a full crew. They will do it all for you, from planning excursions to making delicious meals.

All-Inclusive Experiences

Of course, an all-inclusive experience will be the most expensive option. But the benefit is that you can completely relax and enjoy a stress-free experience soaking up everything Croatia has to offer.

All-inclusive yacht charters are meant for people that enjoy being active, love nature, and love to explore new places while learning about the cuisine, culture, people, and history of the area. In Croatia, you can experience the joy of an all-inclusive yacht charter vacation package starting from 2.500€ for a week onboard.

Expected Costs of Weekly Yacht Charter in Croatia

If you’re considering a yacht charter for a week-long adventure in Croatia, understanding the expected costs is essential for planning and budgeting. Yacht charters offer a range of options, from motorboats to sailing boats, gulets, and catamarans, each with its unique features and pricing structures.

Factors influencing the costs include the vessel’s size, amenities, age, and the time of year you plan to charter (low sailing season or high sailing season). Additionally, optional extras such as crew, fuel, provisioning (Advanced Provision Allowance or APA for luxury motor yachts), and insurance may impact the overall expenses. By delving into the expected costs of weekly yacht charters, you can make informed choices that align with your budget while ensuring a memorable and enjoyable experience on the crystal-clear waters of Croatia.

Average Price of Motorboats per Week

When it comes to embarking on thrilling maritime escapades, motorboats offer an excellent choice for speed enthusiasts. If you’re considering renting a motorboat for a week-long adventure, understanding the average price per week is crucial for effective budget planning.

Due to their luxurious component, note that motor yachts can be an exception to the pricing and cabin-arrangement rule.

Average Price of Sailing Boat per Week

If you’re dreaming of a serene and wind-powered voyage on the open seas, renting a sailing boat can be an excellent choice. To plan your week-long sailing escapade effectively, it’s essential to consider the average price per week for renting a sailing boat . Researching different rental options and comparing prices allows you to find a sailing boat that fits your budget without compromising on the joy of harnessing the power of the wind and navigating the waters.

Average Price of Gulet per Week

For those seeking a unique and tranquil maritime journey, renting a gulet presents a captivating option. Gulets, traditional wooden vessels often found in the Mediterranean, offer a blend of elegance, comfort, and cultural charm. Gulet charters are well-suited for various groups, including families, friends, and even corporate gatherings, as they provide ample space and amenities to accommodate and entertain large parties, ensuring a memorable and enjoyable sailing experience for everyone involved.

Average Price of Catamaran per Week

If you seek a blend of comfort, stability, and ample space for your family sailing adventure , renting a catamaran is an enticing choice. When considering a week-long catamaran charter, understanding the average price per week is crucial for effective budget planning. Larger catamarans with more luxurious features may command higher prices, while smaller or older models can offer more affordable options.

Our all-inclusive yacht charters in Croatia include yacht rental, fuel, a tender boat with an outboard engine, water and soft drinks, food, and Croatian tax-free prices.

Get in touch with our team today to learn more about yacht charter Croatia costs and more experiences on different destinations .

The cost of yacht charter typically includes factors such as the size and type of yacht, duration of charter, location, crew, fuel, provisioning, and any additional amenities or services requested. It can vary widely depending on these factors, with larger yachts, longer charters, and more luxurious services generally commanding higher prices.

The best time to sail around Croatia is generally considered to be from May to September, during the warm summer months when the weather is pleasant, the sea is calm, and most of the tourist attractions and activities are open. However, the shoulder months of May and September can offer slightly fewer crowds and more affordable prices compared to the peak summer months of July and August.

The cost of yacht charter may increase with the number of guests due to factors such as the size of the yacht, the level of provisioning required, and additional amenities or services needed to accommodate more guests, which can impact the overall cost.

Breathtaking aerial view of Hvar's marina, a top destination for yacht charters in Croatia

Yacht Charter Croatia

Whether it is the more than 1,000 islands and secluded bays that beckon to you or the east-meets-west luxury of the Dalmatian Coast that’s calling you, Croatia is one of the most popular yacht charter destinations in the Eastern Mediterranean.

You’ll benefit from the fact that Croatia has become increasingly popular amongst the yacht crowd as many new beach clubs and restaurants have popped up. The beautiful coastline now is a charter lifestyle to rival the French Riviera. Split, Dubrovnik, Hvar, and Brac are just a few of the hot spots worth stepping ashore for on a Croatia luxury yacht rental. Along with its cosmopolitan offerings, the southern coast harbors glorious remnants of the past – Roman, Venetian, and Austrian influences ooze from the architecture and cuisine. The heritage is evident wherever you cruise.

During your Croatia superyacht charter, when you do choose to step ashore from your floating paradise, there are plenty of cobble-stoned streets and ancient promenades to enjoy. If you want to see from your yacht and not be seen, the Dalmatian Coast is for you. It is a place to simply sit back, relax, and just be on the water. Sailing from Dubrovnik north to Split, the southern Dalmatian Coast harbors a hotchpotch of cultures. Discover the Roman ruins and historical sites from Venetian and Ottoman chapters in the history of this region’s past. When the yacht cruises further north, be sure to tender ashore to some of the stunning Kornati archipelago’s chain of islands with unspoiled beaches and shallow bays.

Best Places to Charter in Croatia

Best places to go on a charter yacht in Croatia:

Here, when you do choose to disembark and head ashore, you can experience urban city centers surrounded by ancient walled fortresses. Alternatively, if you appreciate the thrill of harnessing the wind’s power, a sailing yacht is a great cruising option. Chartering a sailing yacht in Croatia offers outdoor immersion, comfort, and flexibility to explore the stunning coast. It’s a popular holiday choice, allowing cultural experiences across different islands, and you will have the possibility of experiencing hours of exhilaration as the wind embraces you, filling each moment with adrenaline. One-way charters offer varying scenery, while off-peak sailing can be cost-effective. The luxury and comfort aboard ensure a memorable stay in the Eastern Med.

Finally, for those who wish to explore the Dalmatian coastline while maintaining a sense of privacy, a catamaran could be the ideal option. Chartering a catamaran in Croatia offers a distinctive and pleasurable sailing experience due to its stability, increased space, and speed. Its shallow draft allows access to areas other vessels can’t reach, enhancing exploration opportunities. Catamarans provide privacy with separate living quarters, panoramic views, and safety. Additionally, their fuel efficiency could lead to cost savings if you are chartering a boat to explore all the islands. A catamaran charter can blend comfort, performance, and adventure tailored to your preferences.

Expect to pay from US$50,000 per week for smaller yachts and up to 1 million plus for the finest superyachts. In addition to the base charter rate, there is a fee called the advanced provisioning allowance, or APA, which is typically around 10% of the total charter cost. The APA covers expenses that are not fixed, including fuel, mooring fees, and food and beverages. An experienced yacht broker, such as the team of charter specialists at Northrop & Johnson, will be able to estimate the total charter cost.

ENQUIRE ON Croatia YACHT CHARTER

Croatia yacht charter faq.

The cost of chartering a yacht in Croatia will start at around $25,000 a week, plus an additional 30% advanced provisioning allowance (APA), 14% VAT, and a discretionary tip. The APA will cover the food, drinks, fuel, and berthing during your travels, and the tip remains at the discretion of the client but is advised anywhere between 10% to 20% of the charter fee to thank the crew for their efforts.

The Western Mediterranean high season spreads over 8 weeks from July to August, but the area often remains busy until late September while it starts in May.

Most yacht charters in Croatia will start in one of the region’s main marinas, such as Split. A great cruise is to go island hopping until you’ve reached Hvar. Our charter broker Eva Malek has cruised around Croatia extensively and recommends:

- Hvar - The old town has plenty of charm, as do the glitzy nightclubs and bars that dot the marina. - Dubrovnik - A must-see UNESCO World Heritage site with a stunning harbour and pretty plaza, where many great restaurants and shops can be found. - Tivat - A traditional town with a modern marina, many designer boutiques and world-class restaurants and bars.

Expected Costs of Yacht Charter

Budget plan for yacht charter & sailing holiday in Croatia

To make a reasonable budget plan for a sailing vacation in Croatia, you need to count on a few essential points that have to be included. Please read below the estimated – expected costs when chartering a yacht in Croatia.

Yacht charter rates in Croatia depend on a few factors:

  • Yacht charter period and season
  • Yacht brand and model
  • Bareboat or Skippered or Crewed yacht
  • Yacht (boat) size
  • Yacht equipment

Average Yacht Charter rates in Croatia per week

Sailing yachts.

Sailing yacht charter price depends on the season period, yacht brand, model, size, age, and equipment.

Catamaran charter price depends on the season period, catamaran brand, model, size, age, equipment

Motor Yachts

Motor yacht charter price depends on the season period, the yacht brand, model, age, and equipment.

Luxury Motor Yachts

When chartering a Luxury motor yacht, count on the APA (Advance Provision Allowance), which amounts 20-30% of the yacht charter price.

Super Yachts & Mini Cruisers

Superyacht charter price depends on the season period, cruising area, yacht brand, number of cabins, and crew members.

When chartering a Superyacht count on the APA (Advance Provision Allowance) which is 30-40% of the yacht charter price.

Gulet charter price depends on the season period, size, number of cabins, and crew members.

When chartering a Gulet count on the APA (Advance Provision Allowance) which is 20-30% of the yacht charter price.

Motorsailers

Motorsailer charter price depends on the season period, size, number of cabins, and crew members

When planning your budget for a sailing holiday in Croatia, besides the costs that you pay directly to the charter company for the boat, the crew ( if hired), the final cleaning/transit log or comfort package, and tourist tax, you shall count on costs on the way, which are:

How much does it cost to hire a professional crew?

The crew fee depends on the boat type and size.

  • Skipper   1.200 - 2.000 €/week + food
  • Hostess  1.200 - 1.500 €/week + food
  • Chef       1.400 - 2.000 €/week + food

The food for the crew is to be covered by the client.

Fuel consumption

This cost depends on the boat model/engine; smaller boats consume less fuel than bigger sailing boats and catamarans, especially if they are equipped with a generator. Approximate fuel costs:

  • Sailboats up to 45'        150 - 200 €/week
  • Sailboats above 50'       200 - 350 €/week
  • Catamarans up to 45'   300 - 400 €/week
  • Catamarans above 45'  500 -1000 €/week
  • Motor yachts are large consumers of fuel compared to sailboats and catamarans, and fuel consumption is the major extra cost. The consumption depends on engine power, cruising speed, yacht size, tonnage, etc.
  • When chartering a Luxury motor yacht or Super Yacht, the fuel consumption is covered by the APA which is 20-30% of the yacht charter price

Mooring fees

Mooring fees depend on the size of the boat, sailing period, and location; but you can choose between the following mooring options: a berth in the marina, a berth in the city ports on a jetty, mooring buoy

  • a berth in the marinas for mono-hulls 50-200 €/day, for catamarans, is usually + 50%-100%
  • a berth in the city ports for mono-hulls 50-100 €/day, for catamarans, is usually double the price
  • mooring buoy appx. 20-70 € / day
  • anchoring in Croatia is free, however, if you anchor in an area that is under a concession, you will be asked to pay
  • For prices in ACI Marinas, you can check directly on their web pages .

Food and drinks

The clients who charter a bareboat usually prepare breakfast and lunch on the boat. and dinner outside in the local restaurants and taverns. If you decide to have dinner out in a restaurant, you can count on the cost of 30-50€/person, of course, this can be far more expensive if you will enjoy your meals in high-end restaurants. You can order food and drinks in advance to be delivered on the boat, or you can make the provision yourself on your arrival in the nearby supermarkets. Order provisioning here .

We suggest buying water and drinks for the whole week and food for the first two days, which is the minimum you should have on board. You can buy fresh products on the islands for the rest of the week. If you hire the crew, you need to ensure they have three meals a day, and at least one should be cooked meal (on the boat, in a restaurant, or you can pay them extra for food 30 €/ day/ crew member). For more info and tips for provisioning, you can read here .

If you are chartering a crewed yacht and paying the APA ( Advance Provision Allowance), the APA covers all of the mentioned costs. This allowance is 20-30% of the yacht charter price.

You can find more tips and info about boat provisioning and cooking on the boat here.

Car Parking

Car parking is not included in the yacht rental price. This is the extra cost, paid directly to the marina reception. Appx 50 -70 EUR per week, per car.

All inclusive

Typically this includes all your breakfasts, lunches, dinners and snacks. Standard Ship's Bar which includes your alcoholic and non alcoholic beverages. Fuel for the yacht and its tender, and the necessary water for the onboard facilities. Use of the Yacht’s onboard equipment and the Captain, Chef and Crew’s services.

Excluded are airport transfers costs, onshore excursions and tours, as well as any food or beverages purchased ashore. Although optional, crew gratuity is customary at 15% - 20% of the charter rate for the Caribbean and 10% - 15% for the Mediterranean.

Plus Expenses

Included are the Yacht and its onboard equipment as well as the Captain, Chef and Crew’s services.

Excluded are food and beverages, fuel for the yacht and its tender, any dockage, airport transfers costs, onshore excursions and tours, as well as any cruising permits, licenses and other charter related expenses. Crew gratuity, although optional is customary at 15% - 20% of the charter rate for the Caribbean and 10% - 15% for the Mediterranean.

Advanced Provisioning Allowance:

For "Plus Expenses" charters, yachts request an Advance Provisioning Allowance (APA), which is generally estimated at 20% - 25% of the base charter fee for sailing yachts (catamarans and monohulls) and at 30%-35% for motor yachts. The APA essentially creates a bank account for the Captain to purchase provisions, fuel, dockage, food, beverages, bar, and other consumables on the charterer's behalf. The Captain will keep all receipts and manage a running balance of the account, so that expenditures can be checked at any time. Any amount not used will be refunded at the end of the charter. If during the charter the costs have exceeded the collected APA, then additional funds will be required for the outstanding bills. All purchases are transparent and nothing is marked up. The APA is used purely for the charterer's provisions and charter-related expenses.

Yacht IN

How much does it cost to charter a yacht in Croatia in 2023?

One way to tackle this is to contact a charter specialist who will undoubtedly make this process painless and enjoyable. Nonetheless, if you are considering a yacht charter in Croatia, here are a few explanations that will help you understand the terms and pricing while sifting through yacht catalogs.

Learn the lingo

Bareboat - If the boat is listed as a bareboat, that means you are only paying for boat rental. You are in charge of hiring the crew, or you take on the role of the captain, with a proper license. None of the expenses are included in the price so you’re obliged to cover the service fee (transit log), fuel, dockage, food and drinks for your charter party, etc. Furthermore, the security deposit is a standard for bareboat charters and usually payable in cash or credit card.

Skippered - Skippered boats or yachts come with a captain/skipper, a licensed professional who is responsible for navigating the vessel. The captain can provide you with useful insights, suggest what to do and where to go, he/she has extensive knowledge of the cruising area and knows the ins and outs of the vessel. Their rate is included in the charter price, but all other expenses are covered by you.

Crewed - Crewed yacht is an umbrella term that includes a wide range of yachts, varying in crew size and yacht size. If you take a look at our crewed yacht charter fleet, you can choose from 21M M/Y DOMINIQUE with captain and stewardess on board, all the way to 55M superyacht RARITY with the crew of 12, both of these yachts are crewed, but the difference is obvious. Having a crew on board guarantees all your needs are met and your safety is ensured.

Price determining factors in yacht charter

As prices vary even among seemingly similar yachts, it is important to understand what are the factors that affect the weekly charter price.

First and foremost, the size of the yacht and whether you are chartering in high or low season. After that, a number of factors are taken into consideration: the builder and the year the yacht was built in, the number of cabins and its layout, the number of crew, the yacht’s reputation, water toys selection, amenities and equipment, etc. All of this can seem a bit too much if you are new to the world of luxury yacht charter, but you definitely can’t go wrong with contacting a yacht charter specialist whose main role is to understand your desires and find the best match.

When is a good time to charter a yacht in Croatia?

Chartering is very seasonal, and prices change accordingly. Croatian yachting season starts as early as May, and can sometimes extend well into October. July and August are considered high season, so it should not come as a surprise that the prices are at their highest during this period. Booking a yacht in June, still in low season, will save you a considerable amount of money, while still enjoying warm summer weather, this also applies to September.

Booking early is always a good idea as you can choose specific dates and time of the season that suits you. The selection of available yachts is much bigger, and the owners sometimes give out an early booking discount, usually 5% to 10%. However, this practice is only common for smaller yachts, up to 18m and in some cases up to 24m. Negotiating prices is not common in luxury superyacht charter, but please contact our charter specialist  as they are familiar with special offers and deals available on the charter market.

Charter fee and expenses explained

The main idea behind luxury yacht charter is customization, tailoring a vacation to fit your needs specifically. This is not a one-size-fits-all business and with all that said, it is not easy to have a single price.

What’s included in the charter fee?

Charter yachts above 20m in the Mediterranean usually operate under MYBA terms, which is the case with Yacht IN charter fleet . MYBA charter terms can be described as a “plus expenses” charter. The base rate covers the yacht and its equipment, tenders & water toys, basic consumables stores for galley and cabins, yacht’s laundry, the crew wages and food, and the insurance of the yacht and the crew, but running expenses, fuel for the yacht and tenders, food and other supplies, local taxes and docking are paid for separately.

Plus expenses under MYBA terms:

  • APA - The main obligatory expense outside the base rate is called APA (Advance Provisioning Allowance), and as the name suggests, it is paid for in advance. The usual amount is around 30% of the charter fee. This fund is used to cover yachts running costs during the charter: fuel, marina fees, food and beverages for you and your charter party, etc. The difference between the APA and the actual expenses is covered at the end of your charter, either you are refunded for the amount that was not spent or you pay for the exceeded amount if that is the case.
  • VAT - Value Added Tax is an obligatory expense as all yachts registered for commercial use are subject to it. VAT differs from country to country and is usually applied based on the place of embarkation. Croatian VAT 13 % Montenegro: NO VAT on charters For example, when you embark on your crewed motor yacht charter in Croatia and disembark in Montenegro, Croatian  VAT of 13%  would apply to the Charter Fee. If you start your charter in Montenegro and stay there for 1 or more nights before entering Croatian waters, where you'll disembark, then you will pay less VAT i.e. 13% of VAT will apply only on days spent in Croatia.
  • Delivery/re-delivery fee -  Delivery fees may apply if you require your charter to start/end in a port other than the homeport of the chosen yacht. You will be charged for the fuel used to relocate the yacht to the port of your choice. In some cases, the owner may charge you “empty run” days for the distance and time required to deliver the yacht, to compensate for revenue lost due to delivery.
  • Crew gratuity - it is not obligatory to tip the crew, but it is customary to leave 5% to 15% of the charter fee. As for how this is done, usually, you leave the tip to the captain at the end of your charter and he will split it evenly between crew members.

Size and price range

The explanation that follows applies to motor yachts exclusively as sailing yachts and catamarans fall under a different, usually less expensive category.

Motor yachts under 18m I price range €10,000-20,000

In this size range, you will usually find the most affordable options. 2 to 3 cabin yachts that accommodate 4 to 6 people. These yachts are chartered bareboat or with 1 crew member, a skipper.

Example I Skippered yacht Prestige 550 Fly FLORIA.

Prestige 550 Fly_Side.jpeg

Motor yachts between 18m - 24m  I Price range €18,000-45,000

Yachts in this range usually have 3 luxury cabins for 6 people, but there are some yachts with 4 cabins for 8 people. As the size grows, so does the number of crew and these yachts usually have 2 to 3 crew members (a captain, a chef, and/or a hostess).

Example I Fereti 681 DOMINIQUE

Ferretti681_exterior_profile_cover-photo.jpg

Example I Princess Y72 ELIZABETH

Saloon Princess Y72 - Yacht IN.jpg

Motor yachts between 24m -  30m I Price range €35,000 and €65,000

This size range offers a variety of choices, from fast open yachts to more comfortable and stable displacement, two-deck yachts. These are usually 4 cabin yachts that accommodate 8 guests, but some exceptions have a fifth cabin. A crew from 2 to 4 members is on board. Prices vary significantly as these yachts differ in age, size, amenities, selection of water toys, etc.

Example I Ferreti Custom Line Navetta 26 FRIEND'S BOAT

Navetta25_FriendsBoat_Profile.jpg

Superyachts between 30m -  40m  I Price range €50,000 and €150,000

There is a big gap between 30 and 40 meters, which is reflected in the price range. More luxurious yachts are common in this category as features get more exclusive; Jacuzzis, spacious social areas, comfortable staterooms, a bigger selection of water toys, and more equipment in general. A bigger size means more space, which means more comfort and stability. Yachts with 5 stateroom cabins for 10 people are prevalent in this size range. In some cases, the master suite is located on the main deck which is considered an extremely attractive feature. These yachts run with 4 to 7 crew members which means the provided service is much more tailored and the stay is more luxurious than on smaller yachts, as expected.

Example I Sunseeker Predator 108 QUANTUM

QUANTUM_Exterior_aerial_starboard_sunset.jpg

Superyachts between 40m - 50m I Price range €90,000 and €250,000

Full beam master suites, upper deck VIP stateroom, offices, huge bathrooms, three decks with dining and social areas, sundeck Jacuzzis, and the list goes on. All of this becomes a standard on yachts in this size range. Commonly, these yachts have up to 6 staterooms that can accommodate up to 12 guests. Crew size grows up to 12 people and the provided service is second to none.

Example I CRN 43 "LADY TRUDY"

ladytrudy-393.jpg

Superyachts +50m I Price range + €250,000 - Million

The prices skyrocket within this category and whatever you imagine as the pinnacle of exclusivity can probably be found on these superyachts and megayachts. It is safe to say that the possibilities are endless; gyms, beach clubs, private owners' decks, spas, helipads, cinemas, pools, and high-performance tenders are just some of the features found in this size range.
