Space is not an issue for the Ferretti Yachts 500 : The flydeck has 136 square feet with an aft-deck overhang; there’s 82 square feet for the cockpit with a table that can convert to one of many sunpads aboard and a transom sofa; and there’s 67 square feet of swim platform. The Four Seasons Just Announced a Line of Yachts — and They're Just as Luxurious as You'd Think

Four Seasons Yachts will boast spacious, villa-like residences and high-end dining outlets.

Booking a few nights at a Four Seasons hotel already felt like the pinnacle of an opulent vacation experience. But now, the famed luxury brand is taking it a step further with the announcement of the new Four Seasons Yachts .

Created by a partnership between the Four Seasons, luxury entrepreneurs Nadim Ashi and Philip Levine, and the shipbuilding group Fincantieri, the first Four Seasons Yacht is expected to hit the waters by 2025. The ships, the team shared in a statement, will come with the same bespoke experiences and personalized service you can expect in the hotels.

"Four Seasons Yachts represents the next chapter of our long history of industry-leading innovation, and a milestone moment for our company as we continue to capitalize on new opportunities to extend the world of Four Seasons," Christian Clerc, president, Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts, shared in a statement with Food & Wine .

The first Four Seasons vessel will be 679 feet long and 88.6 feet wide with 14 decks. According to the team "no expense was spared" in the boat's creation, clocking in at $4.2 million per suite. But all that investment was worth it and is showcased in the vessel's expanded living spaces and all-suite nautical residential living.

In total, the first boat will come with 95 spacious accommodations, each featuring an extensive network of joining suite combinations creating adaptable, villa-like residences.

In the suite's guests will find floor-to-ceiling windows that provide unobstructed views and access to expansive terrace decks. And every room comes with 7.9-foot ceilings to ensure it feels as spacious and airy as possible.

"In partnership with Four Seasons, we are creating a new category of luxury lifestyle travel that appeals to discerning guests. We are bringing together the very best across industries to create the pinnacle yachting offering through world-class design, curated experiences, and truly exceptional service," Larry Pimentel, a veteran luxury travel industry expert and the man responsible for leading the new enterprise, said. "When we launch in 2025, there will be nothing else like it on the open seas."

Suite accommodations start at an average of 581 square feet of indoor/outdoor living space, and move all the way to its most expansive residence, the "Funnel Suite," which includes four levels spread across 9,601 square feet of combined indoor/outdoor living space. That includes a private wading pool and dedicated private spa area.

Common spaces onboard the boat include its restaurants, lounges, and bar concepts, where the Four Seasons team said guests can find the "perfect cappuccino in the lobby, a Mediterranean-inspired lunch, a dinner tasting at the sushi bar, or a glass of Champagne on the breathtaking terrace." Guests, it added, will never be far from the perfect bite to eat and the ideal drink to sip.

For a moment of relaxation guests can check into the full-service spa, salon, and wellness area, which offers everything from fitness classes to health and nutrition consultations. There's also an outdoor movie theater for watching flicks under the stars, and plenty of deck space for sunbathing on warm days.

Luigi Matarazzo, the general manager merchant ships division of Fincantieri, put it best with this simple statement: "This project is in a class of its own, combining the best of passenger ship construction and yacht design to create a new benchmark for ultra-luxury vessels." Architects and fashion designers are penning yachts, and it’s changing how they’re made.

“We’re known for creating exceptional experiences,” said Christian Clerc, president of Four Seasons hotels and resorts. “We plan to expand Four Seasons even further with an incredible yachting experience.”

Clerc told Robb Report that the yacht concept, which has been in the works for two years, came partly as a result of the Four Seasons Private Jet program , which brings its members to different parts of the world on a converted, 48-seat Airbus A321neo-LR. “We have an incredible 30 percent return rate from those trips,” said Clerc. “It’s one of our most important touchpoints for the modern Four Seasons brand.”

The new yacht is designed with 96 suites, which start at 581 square feet. These can be transitioned to 56 larger suites through a series of modular sliding walls. Clerc said whole decks can be converted to private residences for families or individual groups.

The experience will certainly be different from chartering or owning a private superyacht, which typically sleeps only 12 people, with a crew catering to the group for the week. Itineraries on superyachts are also flexible.

The company says its relatively smaller size, compared to traditional cruise ships, will give it access to areas where cruise ships are forbidden.

It’s not clear how, depending on a given week, 112 to 196 passengers will experience the same levels of intimacy as a conventional yacht. Clerc says the 1:1 ratio of crew to guests as well as the private setup will add to the experience. “It’s going to have the lowest density out there on a space-per-person basis,” he says. “We’ll also have an itinerary created just for each client. So if you’re there with your family, you’ll have your own driver, restaurant experiences, etc. You don’t have to include other people outside your group unless you want to.”

“When you’re on a superyacht, you’re a bit at the mercy of the crew who have multiple jobs, so the experience can range widely,” adds Marc Speichert, Four Seasons’ chief commercial officer. “What you get with us is the excellence of Four Seasons on a yacht.”  

Per-person costs should be similar to chartering a 200- to 250-foot yacht, says Clerc, though a pricing schedule has yet to be finalized. Four Seasons will open booking late next year for the boat’s 2025 summer launch. The vessel is expected to cost about $1.16 billion, or an average of $4.35 million per suite.

Fincantieri, an Italian shipyard with experience in commercial ships, superyachts and military vessels, will be the builder. The build schedule will include three vessels. More will follow during a 15-year period, said Larry Pimentel, CEO of Marc-Henry Cruise Holdings. Pimental’s firm is in charge of sales, marketing, marine and technical operations, while Four Seasons is in charge of the guest hospitality experience on the vessel and on land with shore experiences.  

The Four Seasons vessel is joining competitor Ritz-Carlton’s Yacht Collection . The hotelier announced plans five years ago to move into the yachting sector, though the vessel launch has been delayed by two years. Ritz-Carlton said Evrima, the first vessel of its long-delayed Yacht Collection, completed sea trials in June.

Four Seasons is also currently going through a rebrand called “Luxury is Our Love Language,” based on stories gathered from guests. “It’s all about creating a meaningful sense of belonging through the elegance of empathy,” said Speichert, adding that its new yacht collection should be a concrete example of the rebranding effort.

Four Seasons Yachts is a new cruise line and travel brand owned by Four Seasons Hotels Ltd via its subsidiary Marc-Henry Cruise Holdings Ltd (Malta-incorporated, Miami-based).

Debuting in 2025-Q4, the ultra-luxury travel brand Four Seasons Yachts ( official website ) brings the Four Seasons Hotels & Resorts' legendary attentive and personalized service to the high seas. Currently, the brand plans to commence cruise revenue operations in November 2025.

Four Seasons cruise fleet consists of three identical-design newbuild superyachts (1x under construction , 1x ordered, 1x optional) representing a total investment of EUR 1,2 billion (400M per unit). The first ship (TBN1) is scheduled for completion/delivery and inauguration in November 2025. The second ship (TBN2) was ordered in June 2023 and is planned for inauguration in December 2026. The third unit currently remains optional (by the shipbuilding contract).

Four Seasons' shipbuilder is Fincantieri ( Trieste yard for prefabrication, Ancona yard for assembly) and all vessels are Malta- flagged and registered in Valletta . The shipbuilding contract with Fincantieri was signed on July 11, 2022.

Curiously, Four Seasons' cruise shipping business started in 2003 with their ever-first vessel Four Seasons Explorer (2002-built as ISLAND EXPLORER). This catamaran-type superyacht has volume 592 GT-tons, LOA length 39 m, max passenger capacity 25.

FS Explorer (advertised as "Cruising Resort" and "Floating Resort") is currently Maldives-flagged (MMSI 511000820) and registered in the Male/Kaafu Atoll . The catamaran is now deployed in Palau (Oceania/Micronesia) and offers year-round voyages leaving roundtrip from homeport Koror . Until 2023, FS Explorer was deployed in the Maldives and operated year-round sailings in the Baa Atoll .

Company history and changes

Marc-Henry Cruise Holdings Ltd is the shipowner and the ship management company. Its parent company is the international hospitality company Four Seasons Hotels Ltd (1961-founded, Toronto Canada -headquartered).

In 2007, Four Seasons Hotels Ltd's majority owners became Bill Gates (71,25% via Cascade Investment LLC/Kirkland WA USA-based) and Al-Waleed bin Talal Saud (23,75% via Kingdom Holding Company/Riyadh Saudi Arabia-based).

As of 2023, Four Seasons operates 124 hotels and resorts (plus 50 residential properties) in 47 countries in addition to 50+ projects (under planning or development) worldwide.

Four Seasons yacht design was developed by TDoS (Tillberg Design of Sweden/1964-founded as Tillberg Design AB, part of Viken Group AB; Hoganas Sweden-based) and MBDS (Martin Brudnizki Design Studio/2000-founded; London England-based). The deal with TDoS was signed on September 29, 2022. Tillberg was contracted to design the ship's exterior and staterooms, while MBDS designed the passenger areas.

The project also joined Prosper & Martine Assouline (1994-founded in Paris France lifestyle brand).

Marc-Henry Cruise Holdings Ltd (2020-incorporated in Valletta Malta) is based in Miami Florida USA (headquarters) and is Four Seasons Yachts' Joint Owner and Operator. The company was established by Nadim Ashi (Founder, Owner and CEO of Fort Partners LLC/Miami-based real estate ownership, development and management company in Fort Lauderdale Florida ) and Philip Levine (Co-Owner of Starboard Cruise Services). Starboard Cruise Services (1958-founded) specializes in cruise ship retail shopping and as of 2023 manages the onboard shopping (venues, products, staff) on 92 vessels.

Marc-Henry Cruise Holdings LTD is responsible for the Four Seasons Yachts' sales and marketing, as well as for the fleet's marine and technical operations, vessel crewing, deployment strategy/itinerary planning.

Larry Pimentel is Four Seasons Yachts' President and CEO, while Nadim Ashi and Philip Levine are Co-Executive Chairmen. Four Seasons Hotels & Resorts' current President and CEO (since 2022 October) is Alejandro Reynal (1973-born, previously employed by Apple Leisure Group as President and CEO).

Marc-Henry Cruise Holdings' team of executives also includes Thatcher Brown (CCO/Chief Commercial Officer & Head of Joint Operations, as well as Owner/Joint Operator of Four Seasons Yachts), Damien O’Connor (Senior VP of Yacht Operations), Christian Urbat (Senior VP of Design Services), Jan Sorensen (VP of New Builds), John Polimenakos (CIO/Chief Information Officer) William Wright (Senior Marine Advisor), James Cabello (Head of Port Operations & Logistics).

The Fincantieri-built Four Seasons ships are with 14 decks/floors, 95 staterooms (all outside, with private step-out balconies and in Suite categories), max passenger capacity 180, LOA length 207 m, width 27 m.

The largest stateroom is the Funnel Suite (spaning on 4 floors/decks) and positioned around the smokestacks. Its total size is 892 m2/9600 ft2, including 431 m2/4640 ft2 indoor plus 462 m2/4975 ft2 outdoor (private terrace/sundeck with a wading pool). The Funnel Suite's top floor is also the ship's highest point.

Bookings for select Four Seasons cruises and itinerary information (departure dates, homeports, call ports/regions, destinations) are expected sometime in 2023-H2.

What is confirmed so far is that the Maiden Season's itineraries (of the Four Seasons' first ship) will be in Southern Europe/Mediterranean and in the Caribbean.

All Four Seasons voyages can be optionally extended by combining the sailings with land stays (pre- and post-cruise packages) at Four Seasons properties (hotels and resorts).

Greek authorities seize 3.75 million capsules of contraband nerve pain drug pregabalin

ATHENS, Greece (AP) — Greek authorities said Saturday they seized more than three tons of the prescription nerve pain drug pregabalin and impounded a yacht registered in the United Kingdom.

The operation took place Thursday night at the port of Lavrio, 70 kilometers (43 miles) southeast of Athens, the coast guard said.

On the yacht, the coast guard found 3.75 million capsules of Nervigesic, a brand name used by Indian pharmaceuticals firm HAB Pharma for pregabalin. The capsules were packaged in 500 cardboard boxes weighing nearly 3.15 tons, the statement said.

Pregabalin is used to treat nerve pain caused by a variety of conditions, such as diabetes and shingles, and also to treat a type of seizure called partial seizure because it has its origin at a single location in the brain.

The raid was ordered based on information from Greece’s “National Intelligence Agency about the activity of networks of Egyptian nationals in Greek territory,” the statement said.

The yacht and its contents remain at the Lavrio port while local authorities conduct an investigation, the coast guard said.

The owner of a $3.4 million Lamborghini yacht screamed 'I will kill you' and threw $100 bills into the water when told he couldn't use a private dock

• The owner of a Lamborghini yacht threatened a private dock employee, per CBS8.
• The employee said Ajay Thakore mooned and threw cash at him after being told he couldn't use the dock.
• Thakore, the CEO of Doctor Multimedia, issued an apology through his public relations team.

The owner of a $3.4 million Lamborghini yacht threatened a private dock employee after being told he couldn't be there, the San Diego-based broadcaster CBS8 reported on March 11.

Joseph Holt, a 21-year-old employee at Marriot Marina in San Diego, told CBS8 that he spotted the yacht sailing into the private dock. The owner, whom CBS8 identified as Ajay Thakore, tried to pick another person up at the dock, Holt said.

"I told him respectfully that he couldn't be there, and I honestly was hoping to have a conversation with him about his cool boat," Holt told CBS8.

In a YouTube video posted by @SM-wc9eq on March 10, a dark blue Tecnomar for Lamborghini 63 is seen sailing out of a dock. A man in a gray T-shirt, a pair of jeans, and a cap was shown standing on the yacht. The man appeared to be Thakore, per CBS8.

Thakore was shown shouting at Holt. "I will kill you, you know I will kill you!" he can be heard saying multiple times in the video

Thakore was later shown pounding his fist on his palm and pointing his thumb down before telling Holt: "To your face!" Holt was shown responding by pointing his middle finger at Thakore.

"I really was trying to restrain myself from getting fired from my job or stepping out of line. The only thing I did was give him the bird," Holt told CBS8.

Holt said Thakore then took $100 bills from his wallet and threw them at him. He added that Thakore mooned him. This exchange was not shown in the video.

"He was saying I'm nobody, I'm nothing, I work a silly job. He said that he knows people, he has connections, he can change my life and ruin it," Holt said. Holt did not immediately respond to Business Insider's request for comment.

The San Diego Harbor Police arrived at the marina 10 minutes after Thakore's yacht exited the dock, per CBS8.

The Harbor Police told Business Insider that Holt decided to press charges against Thakore and that they are investigating the incident.

According to Thakore's LinkedIn page , he's the CEO of Doctor Multimedia. The company's website shows that it's a healthcare marketing firm based in San Diego. Thakore appears to go by the name Ace Rogers on Instagram and TikTok, where he's noted as being a professional gambler.

Thakore, through his public relations team, told CBS8 in a statement that his altercation with Holt was "regrettable."

"What started as a minor misunderstanding escalated into an argument, and I apologize for my actions and to those who witnessed the unfortunate exchange," the statement said. Thakore did not immediately respond to a request for comment from BI.

Thakore isn't the only CEO who's been called out for threatening another person. In November 2021, an Activision spokesperson told BI that its ex-CEO Bobby Kotick had previously apologized for telling his assistant he would have her killed. The spokesperson added that Kotick's threat was "obviously hyperbolic and inappropriate" and that "he deeply regrets the exaggeration and tone."

In June 2020, Lisa Alexander, the CEO of LaFace Skincare, a cosmetics company, apologized in a statement to the media after she had threatened to call the police on her neighbor for writing "Black Lives Matter" on his property. Alexander said in the apology that she was "disrespectful" and "should have minded my own business."

4 Social Security Changes Retirees Need to Know About in 2024

S ometimes, even a program that's been around for decades, like Social Security, can change from one year to the next. And it's important to stay apprised of those changes, whether you're someone who's getting benefits or you're someone whose wages are being taxed to fund the program. With that in mind, here are a few major Social Security changes that have taken place this year.

1. Benefits went up

Social Security benefits are eligible for an annual cost-of-living adjustment ( COLA ). The purpose of COLAs is to help ensure that seniors are able to retain their buying power as inflation makes life more expensive.

At the start of 2024, Social Security recipients saw their benefits rise 3.2%. But based on the inflation data we have so far this year, it's looking like 2025's COLA is going to be a lot smaller. Initial projections are calling for just a 1.75% boost in benefits.

As such, if you have extra money from this year's Social Security raise on hand, you may want to consider banking it in case next year's COLA leaves much to be desired. But also, don't read too much into that 1.75% estimate, as it's very premature. We won't be able to calculate Social Security's upcoming COLA until third-quarter inflation data becomes available.

2. The earnings-test limit rose

Social Security allows recipients to earn income from a job and also collect benefits at the same time. If you do so before reaching full retirement age (FRA), too much income from a job could result in withheld benefits. So, it's important to be mindful of the earnings-test limits .

Those limits change from year to year, but in 2024, the base limit is $22,320, up from $21,240 in 2023. Beyond that, you'll have $1 in Social Security withheld for every $2 of income from a job.

If you're working before having reached FRA but you'll also be reaching FRA later on in the year, the earnings-test limit is higher. In that case, you can earn up to $59,520, up from $56,520 in 2023, without risking withheld benefits. Beyond that, you'll have $1 in Social Security withheld for every $3 of income from a job.

The benefits you have withheld will not be lost forever. Once FRA arrives, you'll have that money added back into your monthly Social Security payments.

But remember, claiming Social Security ahead of FRA means reducing your monthly benefit permanently. If you're going to take that hit, you may want to make sure to keep your earnings to a point where you don't have benefits withheld.

3. Earning work credits got harder

To qualify for Social Security in retirement, you need to accumulate a total of 40 lifetime work credits at a maximum of four per year. But the value of a single work credit can change over time.

In 2024, one work credit is worth $1,730 in earnings, up from $1,640 in 2023. If you work full-time, chances are, you don't have to worry about earning a high enough wage in 2024 to get your four Social Security credits. Rather, it's if you're working part-time that you need to be mindful.

4. The wage cap increased

Social Security's primary revenue source is the money workers contribute in the form of payroll taxes. Each year, a wage cap is set that determines how much income gets taxed to fund Social Security.

In 2024, the wage cap is $168,600, up from $160,200 in 2023. So if you're a higher earner , you might pay more into Social Security this year than last.

It's also worth mentioning that lawmakers have proposed lifting or eliminating the wage cap so that all workers pay into Social Security on all of their income. If you don't like the idea of paying taxes on an extra $8,400, think about it this way -- things could potentially get (much) worse, so be thankful you're only looking at this year's change.

It's pretty amazing to think about the various ways Social Security has evolved since the program's inception. Make a point to keep tabs on Social Security changes, whether you're a recipient of benefits now or hope to be one in the future. Having the right information is key to making smart financial decisions as either a member of the workforce or a near or current retiree.
