YachtVape Eclipse RTA Review – Designed by Mike Vapes

It's not just air that goes in the airflow hole!

In for review this week we have a single coil RTA with a couple of interesting quirks, this is the Yachtvape Eclipse RTA designed by Mike Vapes.

What Can We Expect From the YachtVape Eclipse RTA?

Mike Vapes is a well known YouTube reviewer, and he’s also done plenty of design work including the Clutch X18 (that I loved!) the Intake MTL RTA and the Recurve Dual RDA .

Yachtvape is still relatively new on the scene, having been founded in 2019, so far we’ve only reviewed their Meshlock RDA , which although it didn’t blow me away, was definitely a decent little RDA.

Like with the Meshlock, Yachtvape is trying something a little different with how you go about holding your wire in place. Thankfully it’s not springs this time, but you do need to approach the deck from a different direction to normal! All to be revealed later…

This was sent over to me for review from online vape store VapeSourcing ( thank you ) as usual this will in no way affect my scores, and I shall report back honestly with what I find.

On to the review!

Design and Build Quality

The Eclipse comes in one of 6 different colours: Stainless Steel, Gunmetal, Matte Black, Matte Stainless, Gold, and Rainbow (which I received).

So, 5 nice colours basically!

It’s a slightly funny, stumpy looking tank!

It looks nicely matched on a side-by-side, but as I’ll cover in how it is to use, I didn’t leave it on one for long.

YachtVape Eclipse RTA Drip Tip

I’m always happy when a tank gives you an option of a couple of different drip tips, one is a little taller, and the other is very stumpy.

Apparently it’s designed to be pretty identical to the Recurve Dual . Never been a fan of the second type, but props for options. Plus they also throw in a 510 adapter if you want to use one of those.

Glass Options

You also get two options with the glass.

It comes with the straight glass preinstalled which gives you a capacity of 2ml (maybe a tiny bit more actually). And you can switch it out to the bubble glass which is 3.5ml.

YachtVape Eclipse RTA Top Cap

It’s a simple quarter turn to open the top cap and expose your three large fill holes.

There’s also a HUGE silicone seal inside the top.

The metal feels a little thin when you take it off, slightly cheap feeling, which is a shame, as you’ll be taking the top cap off to refill it pretty frequently!

YachtVape Eclipse RTA Deck

It’s a postless deck that allows your coil to be mounted regardless of whether it’s wrapped clockwise or counterclockwise, by virtue of the four post holes.

Unusually, to keep the height of the tank down, the grub screws are accessed by going in through the airflow holes. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen this design before, but it works OK.

However this does mean that you’ll want to be careful when unscrewing them, unscrew them too far, and they end up rattling around inside the base of the tank.

Obviously I needed to test this to see what happens, and whilst I’m sure it is possible to get them out without totally stripping the tank, I haven’t managed it (so my tank has a bonus rattle to it now!).

The airflow control ring has stoppers at either end, and is a standard dual sided cyclops design.

Airflow on the deck is from two honeycomb sections that rise up either side of your coil. With 13 holes each.

YachtVape Eclipse RTA Base

It’s going to be hard to see on my rainbow coloured Eclipse, but it does in fact say “Eclipse” at the top, with Mike Vapes signature, your regulatory marks, serial number, and “Manufactured by YachtVape”.

The gold plated 510 is also protruding enough that I’d be quite comfortable using this on a hybrid mechanical mod.

How To Build the YachtVape Eclipse RTA

• Trim your coil legs, YachtVape recommend 6.5-7mm leg length, but I found this was a little long, so 6mm seemed to get better coverage. It comes with it’s own coil trimming tool, but I’m using the original Coily tool here

• Put your Allen key through the airflow holes to unscrew the two grub screws

• Place your coil legs in the post holes and place a finger on top (not shown in the picture) to hold your coil as you tighten them up
• Straighten you coil and get it centred using a coiling jig/screwdriver, the deck has little divots to rest your coiling jig in, something I always like to see so I know it’s centred
• Glow your coil and strum with ceramic tweezers to remove any hot spots

• Once it’s cooled, push your wick through the coil

• Trim your wick, you don’t need much length at all here as the wick ports are very shallow. I’d also recommend raking it out quite a lot, especially if you’re using a 3mm ID coil

• Once you’ve raked it out, trim off any excess and place, don’t force, it into the wick ports

• Prime your coil with plenty of e-liquid

• Reattach the top section and fill up

• Pop on your top cap, and you’re good to go!

How Does the YachtVape Eclipse RTA Perform?

So I’ve been using this on and off for a couple of weeks now, and I’ve got to admit that I’ve never really gotten on with it.

My first complaint is the size and capacity of the tank.

I get that this was designed to sit nicely on a side by side mod, and it does look great on there! (aside from the colour)

But unfortunately with most SBS’s, you’re going to be limited to using the 2ml straight glass.

Honestly I got fed up of having to refill it, so I put it on a normal box mod for most of my testing so I could use the bubble glass, which takes the diameter out to about 27mm.

YachtVape Eclipse RTA Airflow and Cloud Production

The airflow on this tank has just the slightest of restrictions on it. On a 1 to 10 scale where 1 is impossibly tight, and 10 is fully open, it’s an 8.5.

It is however a very noisy airflow! I think some of this comes down to the relatively lightweight design of the tank itself, there seems to be a lot of open space where the air is whooshing through it.

Closing it down does limit this to a degree, but it’s still pretty noticeable. It doesn’t seem overly turbulent, just has a large amount of “whoosh” to it!

Cloud production is more than adequate for a single coil, and despite the feeling of it being a bit on the hollow side, the airflow isn’t turbulent at all.

YachtVape Eclipse RTA Flavour

Flavour is pretty decent from it. Because it’s such a short tank, your mouth is really quite close to the coil, and that results in a lot of flavour hitting you.

I’ve been using a few different Jack Rabbit flavours in this, and it’s giving a full bodied flavour. What’s more impressive is how well it manages to separate out the flavours, as that’s something that I’m more used to getting with a Mesh RDA.

Definite thumbs up on the flavour front!

• Looks great on a SBS
• Easy to build
• Good flavour
• Low capacity (there is an extension apparently, that takes it up but not out!)
• Weird “hollow” feeling airflow

Final Review Verdict

It’s a solid little RTA, it’s not going to change anyone’s mind who isn’t already in the market for a single coil RTA, but what it does, it does pretty well.

Flavour is good from it, wicking is nice and easy, and building is a doddle (provided you don’t lose a grub screw inside it!).

However, I keep going back to that hollow feeling “whoosh” that it gives me, and I genuinely don’t know how else to describe it.

It feels like the whole thing is built out of really lightweight tin and the air is just screaming through it in a hundred different directions.

But I know that’s not the case because there’s no turbulence!

So if you can get past that, it’s a flavourful little banger. And with the straight glass on, it looks great on a SBS (though less so in the rainbow!).

Speaking of which, this is the second Yachtvape product I’ve reviewed, and I’ve ended up with the rainbow (aka, the worst of the colours!) both times!

Yachtvape Eclipse RTA 

One item I’ve been looking forward to getting my hands on recently is the latest RTA designed by Mike Vapes as he has a proven track record with earlier collaborations. This time around he’s teamed up with Yachtvape to bring us the ultra compact single coil Eclipse RTA , this seemed to be constantly out of stock everywhere for what seemed like an age but our good friends over at Healthcabin finally came up trumps and have been kind enough to send it over for review.

The Eclipse RTA is available in six colours (stainless steel, matte stainless steel, matte black, gunmetal, rainbow and finally gold), Healthcabin sent out the matte black version for me to take a look at. I’m pretty impressed by the pack-ins found in the tiny Eclipse RTA box with two glass sections, two 810 drip tips plus a 510 drip tip adapter, a bunch of spare O-rings, a coil cutting guide, and a pre-made coil with cotton. Well done to Yachtvape on this front, especially considering that this is a relatively inexpensive tank to start with.

First impressions out of the box are that this is a super stubby affair at just 30mm tall (excluding the 510 and drip tip) so I’m hoping that this is indeed going to be a “five star flavour banger” as Yachtvape proudly proclaim on their website. It comes with the “2ml” straight glass fitted, which Mike Vapes says is actually closer to 2.5ml in his presentation video but let’s just keep that to ourselves shall we? There's also a 3.5ml bubble glass in the box which doesn’t look too offensive either.

Up top we have a standard 810 drip tip, I quite like the preinstalled one but there is a second one based on the original recurve drip tip included in the spares, personally I found that a bit too short for my liking but your mileage may vary. It should be noted that the drip tip sits in a raised section with an 18.4mm diameter so if you’re a fan of super wide drip tips, they may not sit well here, most of mine were fine with just a couple of small exceptions. A 510 drip tip adapter is also included so you have plenty of options on that front.

The top cap is a quarter turn bayonet fitting which has a nice amount of tension, this reveals three gigantic filing ports and everything is nicely sealed with a large silicone gasket. I would have liked to see a spare gasket in the box but these sort of things tend to be fairly durable so it shouldn’t really be an issue.

The tank section unscrews to reveal the build deck, the threads do feel a little rough here and I frequently find myself having to back wind this before I can catch the first thread. This is honestly one of the few complaints I have with the Eclipse RTA . Changing the glass is easy at this stage with the perfect amount of grip being provided by the O-ring holding it in place, no fighting to get the glass off or worrying about it coming off accidentally either. The chimney is super slammed with a very slight step in the top of the chamber, this literally comes to about a millimetre above the top of the build deck once everything is screwed into place!

The build deck itself is also pretty compact with a postless deck design and honeycomb side airflow. There are wick ports at either end with small slots near the base feeding the liquid to the wicks, and the whole deck appears very dripper like in concept.

The post holes are arranged so that you can install coils wrapped in either direction which is always welcome, but you may be wondering how you actually  access the screws as these aren’t immediately visible. Well they’re hiding in the airflow, this has been done to keep the height of the Eclipse RTA as short as possible, but this does throw up a couple of issues.

Whilst you can use the included Allen key to loosen the screws this is poor quality and it tends to slip a lot, particularly when tightening the grub screws down. This is a sure fire way to strip the heads on your grub screws in short order so do yourself a favour and simply throw it in the bin!

Using a proper Wera tool isn’t possible with the airflow ring fitted as it won’t fit, luckily the airflow is removable and this will give you much better access to the screws. For reference a Wera 1.5mm hex screw is the perfect fit for the included grub screws.

Whilst the supplied coil looks decent enough it’s nichrome so I had to resort to one of my homemade 2.5mm kanthal fused claptons again. The suggested leg length is 7mm and this seemed quite long but once I test fit the coil it proved to be perfect with the coil sitting level with the top of the deck and above the airflow, I know this is the optimal way to position the coil with side airflow tanks from previous experience. Whilst there is room here for a 3mm coil the deck is deceptively small and I found that I had to take a wrap out to get this to fit between the post holes with a spaced coil.

Mike Vapes suggested cutting the cotton at the outer edge of the base as shown, fluffing the cotton and tucking everything away as shown above. This worked well, in fact I was surprised how well the wicking kept up given how small the juice channels are at the bottom, but it soon became apparent that this was going to be a leaky monster!

After a couple more rewicks I now know that you need to cut the cotton about 2 mm further out from the edge of the base then give everything a really thorough comb out before tucking the wick away. This still wicks like a champ with the cotton remaining fully saturated even when chain vaping and more importantly it doesn’t leak.

With the above build coming out to 0.25 ohms I found I only needed 45 watts with the airflow closed down just a hair to get a stellar vape, the flavour really is outstanding. Side airflow tanks have a deservedly earned reputation for being noisy and turbulent but the honeycomb airflow design does away with that, it’s reasonably quiet and smooth here. This does add a fair amount of restriction to the airflow, it’s by no means a mouth to lung vape but if you prefer cloud chucking with fully open airflow and high wattages then this isn’t for you.

Yachtvape and Mike Vapes have done an outstanding job here, I’d go as far as to say this is one of my favourite RTAs from 2021 tieing closely with the Aspire Kumo RTDA . If the low 2ml/3.5ml capacity puts you off Yachtvape have also released an Extension tube kit which bumps this up to 3.5ml/5ml whilst only adding 3mm to the total height, sadly this wasn’t available when Healthcabin sent this out for review but it’s definitely something I will be purchasing.

I was a twenty a day smoker for 25 years and like most smokers I was always going to quit "next week". Having hit my mid forties and having the usual smokers cough and difficulty with anything more than moderate exercise it was obviously time to give up the cancer sticks. I bought my first e-cigarette in 2013 when they were expensive, difficult to find and quite frankly... crap. I used it for about a week then went back to the roll ups, mark up another failed quit attempt. The fact that I had just changed jobs and was under quite a lot of stress probably didn't help. Move on to 2016 and whilst I was browsing eBay I noticed that one of the suggested items that would occasionally pop up was for a cheap e-cigarette. It looked similar to the one I'd bought 3 years earlier but it was only £5 (about 8 times cheaper than before) so I decided to give it another go on a whim. Once the kit arrived I managed to gradually replace the cigarettes with my new kit over a two month period and got into watching YouTube reviews for newer kit. My cheap and cheerful kit was replaced by a more upmarket affair, and being a noob I made a mistake once it arrived... I put in the supplied direct lung coil, this was of course a complete revelation and I haven't touched a cigarette since. Oh and I no longer spend the first five minutes of every day having a coughing fit either.

New modification of Russian VVER-440 fuel loaded at Paks NPP in Hungary

DECEMBER 14, 2020 — After the recent refueling at power unit 3 of the Hungarian Paks NPP, its VVER-440 reactor has been loaded with a batch of fresh fuel including 18 fuel bundles of the new modification. The new fuel will be introduced at all four operating power units of the Paks NPP, and the amount of new-modification bundles in each refueling will be increased gradually.

Development of the new VVER-440 fuel modification was completed in 2020 under the contract between TVEL JSC and MVM Paks NPP Ltd. Its introduction would optimize the hydro-uranium ratio in the reactor core, enabling to increase the efficiency of fuel usage and advance the economic performance of the power plant operation. All VVER-440 fuel modifications are manufactured at the Elemash Machine-Building Plant, a facility of TVEL Fuel Company in Elektrostal, Moscow Region.

“Introduction of a new fuel is an option to improve technical and economic performance of a nuclear power plant without substantial investment. We are actively engaged in development of new models and modifications of VVER-440 fuel for power plants in Europe. The projects of the new fuels for Loviisa NPP in Finland, Dukovany NPP in the Czech Republic, Mochovce and Bohunice NPPs in Slovakia, are currently at various stages of implementation. Despite the same reactor model, these projects are quite different technically and conceptually, since we take into account the individual needs and requirements of our customers,” commented Natalia Nikipelova, President of TVEL JSC.

The project of development and validation of the new fuel has been accomplished with participation of a number of Russian nuclear industry enterprises, such as OKB Gidropress (a part of Rosatom machine-building division Atomenergomash), Bochvar Institute (material science research facility of TVEL Fuel Company), Elemash Machine-building plant and Kurchatov Institute national research center. At the site of OKB Gidropress research and experiment facility, the new fuel passed a range of hydraulic, longevity and vibration tests.

Paks NPP is the only functioning nuclear power plant in Hungary with total installed capacity 2000 MWe. It operates four similar units powered by VVER-440 reactors and commissioned one by one in 1982-1987. Currently, Paks NPP is the only VVER-440 plant in the world operating in extended 15-monthes fuel cycle. The power plant produces about 15 bln kWh annually, about a half of electric power generation in Hungary. In 2018, the project of increasing the duration of Paks NPP fuel cycle won the European competition Quality Innovation Award in the nomination “Innovations of large enterprises”. Russian engineers from TVEL JSC, Kurchatov Institute, OKB Gidropress, Bochvar Institute and Elemash Machine-building plant provided assistance to the Hungarian colleagues in accomplishment of the project.

First refuelling for Russia’s Akademik Lomonosov floating NPP

The FNPP includes two KLT-40S reactor units. In such reactors, nuclear fuel is not replaced in the same way as in standard NPPs – partial replacement of fuel once every 12-18 months. Instead, once every few years the entire reactor core is replaced with and a full load of fresh fuel.

The KLT-40S reactor cores have a number of advantages compared with standard NPPs. For the first time, a cassette core was used, which made it possible to increase the fuel cycle to 3-3.5 years before refuelling, and also reduce by one and a half times the fuel component in the cost of the electricity produced. The operating experience of the FNPP provided the basis for the design of the new series of nuclear icebreaker reactors (series 22220). Currently, three such icebreakers have been launched.

The Akademik Lomonosov was connected to the power grid in December 2019, and put into commercial operation in May 2020.

Electricity generation from the FNPP at the end of 2023 amounted to 194 GWh. The population of Pevek is just over 4,000 people. However, the plant can potentially provide electricity to a city with a population of up to 100,000. The FNPP solved two problems. Firstly, it replaced the retiring capacities of the Bilibino Nuclear Power Plant, which has been operating since 1974, as well as the Chaunskaya Thermal Power Plant, which is more than 70 years old. It also supplies power to the main mining enterprises located in western Chukotka. In September, a 490 km 110 kilovolt power transmission line was put into operation connecting Pevek and Bilibino.

Rosatom Starts Production of Rare-Earth Magnets for Wind Power Generation

TVEL Fuel Company of Rosatom has started gradual localization of rare-earth magnets manufacturing for wind power plants generators. The first sets of magnets have been manufactured and shipped to the customer.

In total, the contract between Elemash Magnit LLC (an enterprise of TVEL Fuel Company of Rosatom in Elektrostal, Moscow region) and Red Wind B.V. (a joint venture of NovaWind JSC and the Dutch company Lagerwey) foresees manufacturing and supply over 200 sets of magnets. One set is designed to produce one power generator.

“The project includes gradual localization of magnets manufacturing in Russia, decreasing dependence on imports. We consider production of magnets as a promising sector for TVEL’s metallurgical business development. In this regard, our company does have the relevant research and technological expertise for creation of Russia’s first large-scale full cycle production of permanent rare-earth magnets,” commented Natalia Nikipelova, President of TVEL JSC.

“NovaWind, as the nuclear industry integrator for wind power projects, not only made-up an efficient supply chain, but also contributed to the development of inter-divisional cooperation and new expertise of Rosatom enterprises. TVEL has mastered a unique technology for the production of magnets for wind turbine generators.
