Muskegon Yacht Club Sailing School Welcomes You

re MYC Junior Sailing Program was established in 1989, providing the unique opportunity for hundreds of children and adults to learn an exciting and challenging new skill, one that can bring a lifetime of enjoyment and personal development.

Learning to sail develops physical coordination, balance, and confidence in one’s abilities. Additionally, sailing is a mentally stimulating activity that requires strategic thinking and problem-solving skills. These skills will not only serve children and adults well in their sailing adventures but can also transfer over to other aspects of life, such as work, school, and personal relationships. Moreover, sailing instills a strong connection to the natural environment and fosters an appreciation for the beauty and power of the water.

Beginner Sailor

Sailors just starting out,  that have had a few weeks of sailing school, or are looking for a refresher would benefit from this class.

Our beginner sailors, ages 6 to 18, will learn water safety, sailing terminology, names and functions of boat parts, and points of sail.  Students will learn to rig the boat themselves.  Students will experience steering the boat, adjusting sails, and learning to sail both upwind and downwind with time on-the-water.

There is nothing like sailing for learning life lessons.  To learn to sail teaches both teamwork and independence, engineering and physics, history, and the power of the wind.  Students will experience the amazing adventure that sailing can give.

Experienced Sailor

Our experienced sailor sailing course will cover more sailing techniques and strategies for children ages 8 to 18 with previous sailing experience who are comfortable navigating a sailboat on their own.  Along with teaching the STEAM principles of sailing, lessons will cover boat handling and navigation, rigging, sail shape, and an introduction to speed  strategy.

The course is designed to provide a challenging and engaging experience for experienced sailors, while also helping them to develop new skills and strategies to enhance their sailing performance.

The friends I met while at camp and the teamwork that was influenced by the nature of the sailing sport was truly something I will never forget. The instructors are super nice, patient, and great confidence builders. I have already recommended this school to a few of my friends. - Jordan, 11 -
This was my first time sailing. I had no idea it was such a tough sport, but the instructors were really good at helping me understand the basics and it was just a blast! Can't wait to come back and try the next level program. - Tom, 13 -
I just wanted to say that sailing camp was a really great experience and has taught me not only a lot about sailing, but a lot about my self, so thank you! I love Hilton Head Island and I'm sure I will be back there soon for another session. - Nicol, 12 -

Learn to Sail by the best

Pavlos kontides, (cyprus) silver medal, london olympic games 2012 rolex sailor of the year, 2018, welcome to the royal malta yacht club sailing school.

At the RMYC Sailing School, we love sailing and are dedicated to providing high-quality sailing education to students of all ages and skill levels. Our focus is on delivering excellent sailing instruction while prioritising safety at all times. As part of the renowned Royal Malta Yacht Club, we have a rich history, including hosting the prestigious annual Rolex Middle Sea Race, a famous offshore classic in our sport.

The RMYC set up our Sailing School in 2014 along with SailCoach, an internationally recognised top-tier Olympic training organisation endorsed by World Sailing, the world governing body of our sport. Together, the Club and SailCoach worked to put a framework together that was suitable to the Maltese education system.

The result is a flexible, learn to sail program where lessons are  delivered into three-hour blocks instead of the usual weeklong course. This was a key factor in the RMYC Sailing School’s success as it offers flexibility to students to learn at their own pace.

Over the years, the RMYC Sailing School programme has grown to offer a wide variety of sailing experiences, starting from beginner learn-to-sail programmes to advanced race training for young racers.

Typically lessons start on the RS Quest, a dinghy suitable for families, and the Sailing School’s experienced instructors guide students through different levels.

As they improve, they can try other fun dinghy classes like the Bug, Optimist, RS Feva, and the ILCA (Laser) family of boats.
