inflatable catamaran australia

At Adventure Shark Marine, we pride ourselves on using high-quality PVC materials that are meticulously designed for thermal welding. Our manufacturing process stands head and shoulders above standard inflatable boats that rely on the conventional gluing method, which is prevalent in most of today’s market.

In hot and demanding climates like Australia, traditional glue used in standard inflatables can lead to seam separation. However, with Adventure Shark Marine boats, our industry-leading thermal welding construction virtually eliminates the risk of such issues, ensuring durability and reliability.

inflatable catamaran australia

At Adventure Shark Marine, our transoms are a marvel of engineering, striking the perfect balance between lightweight design and exceptional strength. Crafted with precision, each transom is custom-made from high-quality marine-grade aluminium, ensuring both durability and reduced weight. This means that our transoms are not only exceptionally strong but also remarkably lightweight. With the capacity to securely accommodate up to a 25hp outboard engine, our transoms are a testament to our dedication to safety and performance on the open waters.

More about the Discovery

The Discovery’s legendary catamaran stability will immediately grab your attention; that tippy feeling you expected from a small dinghy is completely eliminated. The Discovery’s tunnel-hull design means superb efficiency too, for less drag, less fuel and more speed.  It has that joy-ride, hair-in-the-wind experience that leaves you wanting to get out in the boat all the time.

Every detail of the Discovery has been rigorously evaluated to deliver unrivaled performance, and if that means creating our own innovations we’ve done it. The revolutionary True-Alu transom is laser cut from marine grade aluminium to ensure a lightweight and corrosion-free result. These exclusive transoms have a unique design incorporating sheet-metal folding for strength and stiffness. The transoms are then mig and tig welded and given the full AkzoNobel powder coat treatment to create an amazing Super Yacht finish. Our transoms are going to look great for years, but it’s the performance enhancement you will immediately notice. The ultra-stiff and lightweight transom provides the rigid platform necessary to transfer maximum power from your outboard into the boat, with no loss of energy.

Our more adventurous customers will also appreciate the RapidDrain grate scupper system in the larger Discovery 330 and 400 boats.  This anti-swamp design means you can take on the rougher conditions that you previously thought a small inflatable boat couldn’t handle, safe in the knowledge that any water taken aboard will drain quickly.

So that’s the inflatable catamaran performance, but what about that distinctive landing craft bow? The benefits of this design are numerous: boarding from the dock, the beach or your mothership is as easy as literally stepping on board; no high side to climb over and no tipping about. Climbing into the boat from the water is also much easier than with a conventional boat. Our own customers consistently testify that ‘no other inflatable offers the ease of re-boarding after a swim or a dive’.

True Kit have put thousands of hours into testing and refining the design of our boats and we’ve paid just as much attention to how they are constructed. The Discovery landing craft represents the highest boat building standards. From specifying ultra UV-resistant Valmex® premium fabric to the incredibly durable thermo-welded single seam construction, these boats are built to outperform and outlast low-quality rivals.

Whether your Discovery is going to be a lightweight tender for your mothership, a lightweight dinghy for fun, or a fishing and diving platform in its own right, you won’t have more fun on the water!

Customer reviews.

Easiest boat I have ever bought and staff were excellent and very helpful. Absolutely no problem purchasing from Australia and better than anything I could buy in Australia.

I was very impressed with the support True Kit gave me during the purchase/after care process. True Kit responded very quickly during the purchase process and once the product arrived I thought the response would be slow, but I was mistaken if anything they were quicker with the response.

Once I commited to the purchase True Kit were quick to quality control and send the discovery. I have bought online products in the next suburb that took loner than it took for me to receive my Discovery 4m.

The how to manual and support videos made setting up a breeze and cannot wait to get on the water and show it off. I have not seen this type of boat in the waters I fish but I reckon True Kit will get a lot more orders when I am seen on the water.

Thank you for a great experience

Buying advice inflatable catamarans

The right happy cat for you.

The construction of all HAPPY CAT models is basically identical. A stable bow foredeck can be mounted on all models for more usable space. Other accessories are slip wheels, masthead float, tarpaulin cover and much more. The different models have an ideal range of use:

The NEO is the smallest with 9 m² sail area. Ideal when low weight and smallest pack size are desired. The best performance unfolds when sailed alone or in pairs. In total up to 3 adults and 1 child fit on the catamaran. Fantastic sailing fun in up to 4 Beaufort. A 3 hp motor can be mounted optionally at the stern.

On the EVOLUTION everything is a bit bigger. Even if more people sail on the catamaran, the hulls dip less and the larger sail area of 11.5 m² provides even more propulsion. Up to 4 adults fit easily on the large trampoline frame. At 5 Beaufort the catamaran sails really fast. Optionally an up to 6 hp motor can be attached, which allows fast gliding rides.

With its even larger hulls, the HURRICANE offers more buoyancy and dips less into the water. Serial reinforcing bow braces increase hull stability in larger waves, for example at the sea. An optional reardeck can be attached to the stern for multi-day adventure trips. The rudder on the HURRICANE is not pulled up and down in the classic way with ropes, but is locked directly via the tiller in the up or down position.

The mast of the HURRICANE CARBON is 6 kg lighter. This allows even easier sailing on one hull due to a later tipping point. In the event of capsize, the carbon mast can be righted up again even more easily. An included padded bag protects the 4 mast parts during transport.

Innovative inflatable catamarans + kayak

The catamaran inflatable boats from Takacat are ideal for divers, camping, caravans and motorhomes

Removable floor

It's hard to ignore the portability and comfort aspect of our fully removable inflatable floor system. Extremely rigid when inflated (10 psi), "standing on board is no problem", and both easy and quick to deflate and store for transport or storage. This is a big advantage over inflatable boats, which have a built-in floor or RIB, which can both hold water.

PVC or TPU (welded seams without plasticisers)

As standard, the boats are made of quality 5-Layer PVC (0,9mm - 1000 denier - 1100g/m²) fabric from  SIJIATEX,  which has a very strong UV protection. Optional boats are also available in TPU (1,2mm - welded seams without plasticisers). The 10PSI high pressure floor, including the additional 1mm thick PVC protective coating, is made exclusively of PVC with DropStitch technology. TPU is more abrasion-resistant than PVC and Hypalon/CSM, rafting boats or boats for extreme operating conditions (-70°C to +80°C) are made from TPU, for example. In contrast to PVC, TPU hoses do not contain any plasticisers, i.e. the welded seams remain supple even after welding and can withstand higher pressures than glued Hypalon/CSM seams.

Takacat - Takayak-395

inflatable catamaran australia

Catamarans are much more tilt-resistant than monohulls, and this also applies to kayaks. Since TAKACAT exclusively develops boats in catamaran design, it was logical that the new kayak from TAKACAT will also be a catamaran => Takayak-395

Generous continuous load area

The number 395 describes the overall length of the Takayak. But much more interesting is the usable length of the inner high-pressure floor of 370cm, with a continuous width of 42cm. So the Takayak offers plenty of loading space for 2 people with luggage, parents with children or for one/two people with one or more dogs.

29cm drive hoses with protective strips on the undersides

The two driving hoses with their 29cm diameter are well proportioned for a maximum load of 260Kg and are powerfully supported by the large-surface high-pressure floor. The lower connecting floor between the two drive hoses additionally protects the inner high-pressure floor in case of ground contact and during landing.

10PSI "Drop-Stitch" high pressure floor

The 8cm thick high-pressure floor can be inflated with an operating pressure of up to 10PSI = 689mbar thanks to its drop-stitch technology. This creates a stable loading platform and shields the entire seating and loading area from the water surface.

3 air chambers + safety overpressure valves

Each driving hose is equipped with a Halkey-Roberts valve at the stern and an overpressure safety valve at the bow. Accidental over-pumping of the tubes is therefore impossible and harmful pressure increases due to strong sunlight are also avoided. The Takayak-395 has a total of 3 independent large-volume air chambers.

inflatable catamaran australia

One-seam design + 5-layer PVC fabric skin

One-seam design means that each tube is made from a single piece of skin. The tubes have only one longitudinal seam on the outside, which is additionally covered with a resistant 1mm thick protective strip and thus doubly secured. At the bow and stern, the so-called bumpers (end pieces) are then glued in, also double-secured. The One-Seam design reduces the number of seams and seam intersections by over 50% compared to half-shell production and thus significantly reduces the possibility of possible leaks in the seam areas. The 5-ply fabric-reinforced PVC skin with 0.9mm thickness and 1000 dtex meets the standard of quality inflatable boats. Optionally, the Takayak-395 can also be manufactured in 1mm Hypalon/CSM.

Open bow and stern

The open bow and stern create a forced bilge. Water that penetrates the Takayak-395, e.g. due to an overflowing wave or heavy rain, immediately escapes again; no bilge valve can realise such a bilge capability. Another advantage is that it is easy to return out of the water. No time-consuming safety and re-entry training is necessary.

Mobile in a bag

The Takayak-395, together with the high pressure floor, the two paddles, the two kayak seats and the hand air pump can be stowed in a transport bag. The transport bag measures 120 x 40 x 40cm (length/width/height). The driving hoses and the high-pressure floor together weigh 20Kg, the completely parked carrying bag with all accessories weighs approx. 24Kg, depending on the model of the hand pump.

Assembly - quick and uncomplicated

Setting up the Takayak-395 is quick and uncomplicated:

  • Unroll the drive hoses and inflate to 250mbar (3.6PSI) at the stern using the Halkey-Roberts valves.
  • Insert the high-pressure floor, fix it to the underbody at the bow and stern using the tension straps and inflate to 689mbar (10PSI).
  • Insert the seats and tighten them using the side D-rings.
  • Assemble the paddles and adjust them to your personal style.

And the Takayak-395 is ready to go out. Depending on the number of people and the load, one or two seats can be clipped in.

Electric Engine connected with a FinBox adapter

Thanks to the straight-through connecting floor between the two tubes, the Takayak-395/300 offers the possibility of e.g. gluing a slide-in fin box from down against the connecting floor and thus using an electric motor as a supporting drive aid. There are many manufacturers on the market who offer slide-in electric motors with FinBox adapters, e.g. Vaquita from ePropulsion, the Scupajet from Austria or the new E-Finn from JAYKAY in Germany. The course is then steered with the help of the paddle. Depending on the drive, speeds of up to 10Km/h can be achieved.

inflatable catamaran australia

Kayaking redesigned - Takayak-395 - the redesigned kayak from Takacat offers advantages for all those who do not want to do without comfort and unique functionality when kayaking. As a catamaran, a stable position in the water, a ride as if on two rails, boarding and disembarking via the open bow is effortless, even out of the water back into the kayak, plenty of space for dogs and luggage travelling with you and a unique forced bilge.

Permatrim - Hydrofoil

Takacat LXHD-Series - Heavy Duty Rescue Boats

inflatable catamaran australia

The Takacat models 340LX-HD, 380LX-HD, 420LX-HD and 460LX-HD are available as heavy-duty versions for water rescue and other operations under difficult conditions. An ideal rapid intervention boat (SEB) for the fire brigade, water rescue and police. Due to their low immersion depth, TAKACAT catamaran inflatable boats are ideal for shallow water operations. The open bow makes it much easier to transfer people into the boat. The same applies to rescue divers and lifeguards. The open transom guarantees that the Takacats never fill up. Any water that is taken over flows straight back out of the boat.

In the heavy-duty version, the Takacats are made of 1.2mm/1450 weight RESC (red/dark blue) thick PVC fabric, alternatively 1.5mm/1750 weight MIL (black) thick PVC fabric or alternatively 1mm Hypalon/CSM. The top of the both tubes is double reinforced with a wide strip of PVC skin to protect against heavy uniforms.

The heavy-duty high-pressure floor has a full-surface and all-round PVC protective coating with an additional layer on the top (2mm) so that the boat can be walked on with heavy footwear without any problems and carrying heavy equipment is no problem.

The heavy-duty transom, made of 2mm stainless steel square tube plus 50mm thick PE1000 transom plates with additional stainless steel reinforcement, can be fitted with a maximum of a 15 or 20hp outboard motor, depending on the model. Thanks to the open bow, a transfer from the water into the boat can be carried out much more easily than with inflatable boats with a bow bulge. Divers can also return to the boat more easily. The open transom allows water that inevitably flows into the boat during a rescue operation to run off again immediately, and the same applies to wave action and heavy rain.

Due to the catamaran construction, the Takacat can also be used for ice rescue in winter, the same applies to the heavy-duty high-pressure floor. Optionally, a GRP floor can be used instead of the high-pressure floor.

The Takacat catamaran inflatable boats of the "Heavy-Duty" LX series are custom-made, i.e. special customer requests can be included in the production.

Takacat - LXRIB - RIB Catamaran with Aluminium Floor

inflatable catamaran australia

Takacat-LXRIB - The special advantages of inflatable boats, rigid hull boats and catamarans are combined in the LXRIB from Takacat to create an interesting solution. A combination of hydrodynamic and aredynamic influences allow the Takacat LXRIB to float over the water instead of cutting through it, resulting in decent planing characteristics when using compact outboards and good fuel efficiency ..... Videos

With its large centre floor and integrated bow platform (460LXR) with anchor locker, the Takacat LXRIB offers more space than other inflatable boats in this size range.

Due to its catamaran-specific stability and gliding behaviour, the Takacat LXRIB is a very good boat for multiple uses such as diving, fishing, camping, water skiing and tubing. The robust Takacat LXRIB is also a very good choice as a safety and support boat for all types of water sports and for boat hire.

TPU (1.2mm - welded seams) is the standard material for the LXR tubes. In the marine environment, boats are constantly exposed to scratches and scrapes on rough surfaces such as sharp rocks. When designing RIB tubes, it is of utmost importance that they can withstand the extreme conditions. Here too, TPU offers advantages over CSM/Hypalon for inflatable boats. TPU is much more abrasion resistant than CSM/Hypalon. This is one of the main reasons why the US space agency NASA uses TPU instead of CSM coatings for most of its textile applications.

RIBs, and especially Extreme RIBs used as military and commercial sea rescue boats, are often used in harsh weather conditions. These include both scorching and sub-zero temperatures. It is vital that the coating of the hoses can withstand these extreme conditions. High temperatures are detrimental to some textile coatings as they increase oxidation of the coating and the underlying fabric. Low temperatures, on the other hand, can cause many materials to lose their flexibility and tear or fail. Both temperature extremes generally affect CSM coatings more than TPU coatings. TPU generally retains its performance properties at temperatures from -50°C to +70°C, meaning that Takacat-LXR can be used from the Arctic to the Caribbean.

inflatable catamaran australia

The new LXRIB from Takacat combines the aerodynamic design of the LX series with a robust connecting floor made of marine aluminium. The 340LXR will make its world debut at BOOT 2024 in Düsseldorf . The 340LXR and the 460LXR are currently available. Depending on the model, the LXRIB can be motorised with 50 hp. The LXRIB series has been consistently developed with recyclability in mind, i.e. the RIB floor is made of marine aluminium and the welded tubes are made of TPU. TPU can be welded like PVC but has no plasticisers that can evaporate, i.e. it remains elastic even after the seams have been welded. In addition, the softening temperature of TPU is considerably higher than that of PVC, which is a plus for hot regions and when the boat is transported on the davits. Unlike PVC, TPU can be recycled and is compostable. The LXRIB is optionally available with a bow stowage box. The 340LXR weighs 65kg and the 460LXR weighs 105kg. For a RIB, these values can be described as lightweight.

As an option, the LXRIB models can also be equipped with bench consoles, jockey seats and combination consoles, see examples above. Aluminium equipment carriers and electric jack plates are available as further options.

3 people had to be rescued from their 30-foot inflatable catamaran after sharks attacked the boat, officials say

  • Three people were rescued from their inflatable vessel after sharks attacked its hull, officials said.
  • The trio were around 510 miles off Australia's northeastern coast, according to rescue authorities.
  • When found, the 30-foot catamaran was missing large portions of its hull, rescuers reported.

Insider Today

Three men on board an inflatable catamaran were rescued off Australia's northeastern coast on Wednesday after their vessel was attacked several times by sharks.

The trio — two Russians and one French citizen — were about 510 miles from shore when Australian authorities picked up their distress alert in the early morning, the Australian Maritime Safety Authority said in a statement.

The Russian vessel had departed from the Pacific archipelago of Vanuatu and was heading to the city of Cairns in Queensland, the AMSA said.

Both hulls of their 30-foot catamaran "have been damaged following several shark attacks," authorities added.

Officials said they asked a nearby Panama-flagged ship, the Dugong Ace, to help rescue the three people. A Challenger rescue aircraft was also sent to assist from Cairns.

When found, the catamaran had "large sections of its hull missing," AMSA Response Centre manager Joe Zeller said.

"There's many reasons that vessels are attacked by sharks. However, the motivations of these sharks is unclear," Zeller said.

Footage shot by a Challenger rescue plane shows the state of the vessel when rescuers arrived.

—Matthew Loh (@ma2loh) September 6, 2023

The three sailors are aged between 28 and 64, in healthy condition, and on board the Dugong Ace on their way to Brisbane, Zeller said. Their full trip would likely have taken between two to three weeks, he said.

"The emergency beacon absolutely saved their lives," Zeller added. "It enabled the rescue coordination center to identify their precise location and empower the most appropriate and quickest response to rescue them."

The trio are expected to arrive in Brisbane on Thursday, the AMSA said in its statement.

Sharks and orcas have been making headlines this summer amid a rising number of reports documenting attacks on vessels . But it's still unclear what causes these encounters , or if they are related at all.

‘Not scared about our life’: sailor rescued from catamaran reveals he had been attacked by sharks before

Russian and French sailors say main fear was not being able to finish their circumnavigation after cookiecutter sharks damaged boat en route to Cairns

Russian sailor and lifelong adventurer Evgeny Kovalevsky admits to being scared when his catamaran was damaged by sharks hundreds of kilometres from the Australian mainland, but it wasn’t his life he was worried about.

Kovalevsky, who was rescued by a passing container ship on Wednesday alongside fellow Russian crewmember Stanislav Beryozkin and Frenchman Vincent Thomas Etienne, is determined to fulfil his dream of circumnavigating the world in an inflatable catamaran.

And that’s what was running through his mind as a school of small cookiecutter sharks attacked their boat on successive days.

“[We were] not scared about our life. We [were] scared about the finishing of expedition,” he told Guardian Australia.

Amazingly, it’s not the first, or even the second, time Kovalevsky has been attacked by cookiecutter sharks in an inflatable vessel.

He’d come under attack from the tiny sharks earlier in this voyage – but first encountered them 12 years ago in the Atlantic. That was also an inflatable boat, though it survived.

The tiny sharks, 15-50cm in length, are known to attack boats and inanimate objects like submarines and undersea cables with their sharp teeth. Though they have taken bites out of people, no human is known to have died as a result of a bite from a cookiecutter shark.

Arriving in Queensland on Thursday, the crew plans to stay with supporters until the Russian Ocean Way expedition can obtain another vessel. It will be the expedition’s third boat.

The first, a trimaran, was lost in heavy seas in the Pacific Ocean when they were struck by twin cyclones in March. Their rescuers were Ukrainian.

“We started in St Petersburg, and we have to finish in St Petersburg. We are determined to continue but now we don’t know how to do it, it’s a challenge,” he said.

The expedition was launched in 2021 in honour of Russian explorers who circumnavigated the world in the 19th century. The sailors have also educated children about Russia’s maritime history on their voyage.

Kovalevsky has already spent nearly two years at sea, and now doesn’t expect to back in St Petersburg until 2024.

They plan to sail home either by the notoriously stormy Cape of Good Hope or via the Suez Canal and then the Black Sea.

Either way promises potential danger.

“[Going] around Cape of Good Hope with inflatable boat is very difficult,” Kovalevsky said.

“The Mediterranean Sea, this is not the easiest [because of] Somali pirates. If you go to the Black Sea it is military conflict with Ukraine and Russia.

“And if we [go] through the European country, the Russian flag … is not allowed to come to the European countries’ ports.”

The trio arrived back in Mooloolaba, on the Sunshine Coast, on Thursday after being picked up by Panama-flagged vehicle carrier Dugong Ace. Their rescue was coordinated by the Australian Maritime Safety Authority after the crew activated a distress beacon.

Glued Seams vs. Welded Seams

Welded seams are often used for RIBs as they are affordable, typically easy to do, and inflated most of the time. Glued seams are best for boats you intend to fold and unfold constantly.

Welded seams become brittle and will start to leak. Additionally, they are not totally repairable as you can only patch them up, which compromises your boat’s quality and performance.

You want to purchase glued seamed boats, which are more flexible and have higher holding power in complex shapes and sizes.

Follow our news, recent searches, three rescued from shark-bitten inflatable catamaran off australia after setting sail from vanuatu, advertisement.

SYDNEY: Three men were plucked to safety on Wednesday (Sep 6) after sharks started tearing chunks from their inflatable catamaran as they attempted to sail to Australia from Vanuatu - a distance of more than 2,000km.

The men - two Russians and a French citizen - were picked up by a cargo ship while floating in the shark-filled Coral Sea.

"Both hulls of the vessel have been damaged following several shark attacks," the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) said in a statement.

The authority said the trio had planned to sail from the Pacific archipelago of Vanuatu to the city of Cairns in tropical northern Australia.

They activated an emergency distress beacon - registered to the Tion, a 9m inflatable catamaran - in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

AMSA requested the assistance of a Panama-flagged vehicle carrier, which successfully conducted the rescue. The boat was located about 800km southeast of Cairns in the Coral Sea.

inflatable catamaran australia

Footage shot by a rescue helicopter shows the catamaran bobbing in calm seas as it is approached by the hulking Dugong Ace, a vehicle transporter that came to the sailors' aid.

The Coral Sea is brimming with reef sharks and other apex species such as tuna and marlin.

According to the Australian government, it is home to more sharks "than almost any other survey site in the world".

The three passengers are due to arrive in Brisbane on Thursday, AMSA said.

The men were unharmed, said Anna Kosikhina, a spokesperson for the voyage, which she said was aimed at promoting Russia and Siberia and began two years ago.

"They were all intact. Nobody is hurt," she said.

"The only thing is that the balloons of the inflatable catamaran were blown away."

This was not the first accident on the voyage, Kosikhina said, with the steering device of a previous vessel failing during a previous leg from Chile to Easter Island.

The crew continued the expedition on an inflatable catamaran by the same manufacturer that had been stored on the island for several years.
