***PRICE REDUCED***  Built in the Taiwanese yard of Hansa Yachts Und Shifbau in 1984, this little ship virtually gleams with the artistry of that time and place and it was cutting-edge designed for blue water cruising. The 33’ was the smallest of the Hans Christians and as such it’s likely the easiest to handle. She has a lovely sheer line that is recognized worldwide, a large bowsprit, and is cutter-rigged with a self-tending staysail. The fuel and water tanks are built into the keel cavity, lending to stability. While she is a full-keel hull, the forefoot is significantly cut away, meaning that it’s built to track well and maneuvers better in tight marinas. The large rudder is well protected by the keel itself. The doubled ended hull is slightly narrower than other HCs, which lends to stability and sea-kindliness. Though she won’t go winning many round-the-can races, she’s been known to do 3kts in 5kts of wind. In a hard blow, she’s stable and capable.

Inside, you again see form and function working beautifully. The HC33 is known for its amazing storage capacity. Provisioning for a passage is no problem for this incredibly well-designed 33-footer. It has a pullman berth to aft and another fore. The saloon and galley are trademark Hans Christian. Everything is beautifully rounded: rounded fiddles, oval mirror, oval portholes, cambered headliner, rounded handholds. It’s a joy to the eye. With ample portholes and a large butterfly hatch, there is plenty of light. The galley is easy to work in and tight enough to be safe in big seas. The saloon has an L-shaped settee around a table on the port side, and to starboard is a bench seat which makes for a good bunk when underway or sleeping five. The head is at the fore of the boat with lovely tiles and joinery, as well as a separate shower. Teak is used throughout creating that heartwarming glow that traditional sailors throughout the ages have enjoyed.

This boat is a treat to look at and yet it’s a serious offshore vessel. Come and step aboard and see what all the fuss is about!

OWNERS COMMENTS

Purchased for her blue water performance and durability. Kachina is a strong and sturdy vessel able to cross oceans. Speed is not her specialty but safety and security her strengths. We have yet to bury the rails under the strongest of winds.  

We purchased Kachina in July 2012. She is a classic Harwood Ives designed double ender sailboat, with full keel. She was kept in Deltaville Marina, Deltaville, VA, and the first two summers we sailed her in the Chesapeake. We Purchased new Ullman sails in 2014 along with running rigging. 

She was on the hard during winter months in Deltaville. During the summer of 2014 we spent getting Kachina ready to cruise; Installed a D400 wind generator with custom stainless pole. New ProNautic 1260P charger along with new DC wiring. Installed new CPT auto pilot. Installed Iridium communications system. Raymarine electronics, depth sounder, wind indicator, speedometer. Two coats interior varnish in main salon, pullman berth & head. Exterior varnish on Hatches, granny bars and the companion. Semco sealer on exterior teak rails, cockpit blocks. Took Kachina down intercoastal to FL and spent winter sailing in south Florida waters. Hauled and stored in Indiantown Marina for summer months. Jan 2015 new dinghy purchased. 2015 readied kachina for sail to Bahamas where we spent winter the months in the Exumas and Abacos returning to Florida and hauled in Indiantown.

Summer of 2016, we spent getting ready to sail to the Bahamas onward to Panama. New aluminum bronze exterior chainplates were fabricated along with new standing rigging. Mast was pulled and painted. New bottom paint. New pullman berth mattress. New salon cushions and sunbrella covers. New isothermal refrigerator unit.

We sailed to Bahamas early 2017 onward to Jamaica, Isla Providencia and arrived in Bocas June 2017. Kachina has remained in the water, at the dock in summer months and we have returned to enjoy sailing the archipelago during the winter months.

2019 4 new trojan batteries installed.

While we have owned her, we have not endured any physical damage. The winter of 2014 new bobstay and dolphin strikers were replaced along with chain plate. 

Overall, Kachina is a beauty. She is perfect for single handed sailor or couple. Space allows limited entertaining, but her sailing is grand. She does not have the “modern” conveniences of some of the newer vessels but offers many other amenities especially for the discriminating sailor.

Annie Irene is a Hans Christian 33 from 1989, outfitted with modern instrumentation and amenities. She is powered by a Yanmar 3QM30 30hp diesel engine and features a furling headsail, self-tacking staysail, slab-reef mainsail, cruising chute from 2020, radar, plotter, autopilot, VHF with DSC & AIS, electric anchor windlass, Eberspacher heater, shorepower, battery charger, inverter, wind generator and overall winter cover. This long keeled, heavy displacement, cutter rigged vessel offers serious long-distance, heavy-weather cruising potential.

Annie Irene is a Hans Christian 33 from 1989, built for her current owner but little used in recent years. Fitted with a Yanmar 3QM30 30hp diesel engine on shaft, last serviced before she came ashore in 2021 and currently winterised. Furling headsail, self-tacking staysail, slab-reef mainsail and a cruising chute from 2020 only used once. Radar, plotter, autopilot, VHF with DSC and AIS. Electric anchor windlass. Eberspacher heater, shorepower, battery charger, inverter, wind generator. Overall winter cover. Her standing rigging is original so will need replacing. History of Hans Christian Yachts

The prestigious yacht manufacturing company, Hans Christian Yachts, was established in 1974 in Taiwan. The original Hans Christian 34, a sturdy double-ender, was the brainchild of naval architect Harwood Ives and was soon followed by other now-iconic designs, masterfully carved in fiberglass by expert marine craftsmen. This line illustrated the successful melding of fine craftsmanship with the distinctive touch of Scandinavian design. This was instantaneously accepted and admired in the market, sparking a loyal following all over the globe.However, the company's trajectory was not a linear one. After an economic downturn in the late 1980s, manufacturing facilities were relocated to Thailand. Despite these hardships, the quality and extraordinary design of the yachts remained consistent. By the mid-1990s, a new line of Hans Christian's were launched under the name Traditional Series, offering an exciting combination of traditional design and modern equipment. Fast forward to the 21st century, Hans Christian Yachts continues its operations from Thailand but has undergone operational and leadership changes. Still implementing the time-proven, labor-intensive methods of hand-laid, solid fibreglass hulls, and exquisite teak joinery, these yachts are still as breathtaking today as when the first sail was hoisted over 40 years ago. And while the company stays true to its roots, they constantly innovate ensuring the yachts remain contemporary and charter a course into the future. "Old world craftsmanship" is their legacy carried forward, drawing a lineage from the first watercraft to the magnificent Hans Christian Yachts of today.
