Die Cupra D28 Formentor hat 400 PS und ist eine Jacht

Glück gehabt, denn jetzt macht Cupra einen weiteren Schritt auf dem Weg hin zu einer allumfänglichen Erlebniswelt und präsentiert nun die in Kooperation mit De Antonio Yachts entstandene Jacht mit dem Namen D28 Formentor. Das Ergebnis der ersten Kooperation zwischen Cupra und der in Barcelona ansässigen Werft ist ein 400 PS starkes Showboat, das eine Höchstgeschwindigkeit von 40 Knoten (das entspricht rund 74 km/h) erreicht.

Die De Antonio Yachts D28 Formentor ist 7,99 Meter lang und kann durch eine Heckplattform um einen halben Meter verlängert werden. Das Layout ist nach dem "Walk-around"-Konzept gestaltet, so dass man die Aufbauten an Deck bequem umrunden kann.

Das gesamte Deck dieses Modells erstreckt sich über eine Ebene und ist in verschiedene Sonnendeckbereiche unterteilt. Sowohl auf dem Vorder- als auch auf dem Achterdeck gibt es Sitzgelegenheiten und Tische, zudem verfügt das Boot über ein voll ausgestattetes Bad. Zehn Passagiere sind insgesamt möglich.

Das Außendesign sieht schon sehr nach Cupra aus und besticht durch die Farbe Petrolblau sowie schlanke, in Kupfertönen gehaltene Elemente um das gesamte Boot. Live bestaunen können Sie die De Antonio Yachts D28 Formentor derzeit in der Marina Vela im Hafen von Barcelona.

Weitere Informationen zu dem erwähnten Hybrid-Dampfer liefert Cupra bislang noch nicht. Die D28 Formentor ist allerdings bereits ziemlich konkret und soll noch in diesem Jahr in den Verkauf gehen. Preise nennen die Kooperationspartner noch nicht. Die Jacht dürfte aber etwas mehr kosten als der Formentor für die Straße.

Inspired by the Formentor VZ5, the De Antonio Yachts D28 Formentor is a 394 hp, 40 knot-capable complement to Cupra's most powerful car

In an effort to prove that Cupra is about more than just cars, the brand has teamed up with Barcelona’s De Antonio to create a yacht inspired by the Cupra Formentor VZ5.

The D28 Formentor is a high-performance yacht  named after the first vehicle designed and developed especially for the brand. The 394 hp yacht is capable of hitting 40 knots (46 mph).

At 7.99 meters (26 feet) long, the D28’s V-shaped hull is what allows it to hit its top speed and cruise comfortably. With a wide deck, it has lots of space for activities and is stable during anchoring.

A walk-around deck allows you to literally walk the entire perimeter of the yacht. That gives you access to sundecks with seating and tables at both the bow and stern. The D28 Formentor also includes a fully equipped bathroom and enough room for 10 people.

In a nod to the Cupra Formentor, the D28 is finished in Cupra ‘s signature Petrol Blue color with copper accents. It also features carbon fiber accessories.

“Both De Antonio Yachts and Cupra are committed to a high level of technological development in our products, and in this collaboration, we’ll work to apply innovation at its best in the nautical world,” said Stan Chmielewski, co-founder of De Antonio Yachts. “We’re very proud of this first showboat as the start of a promising collaboration.”

The yacht was shown off at Marina Vela in the port of Barcelona alongside a Cupra Formentor VZ5 . The limited-edition performance crossover makes use of Audi’s 2.5-liter inline-five engine. In this application, it makes 385 hp and 354 lb-ft of torque and can hit 60 mph in just 4.2 seconds.

“Our cooperation with De Antonio Yachts is just one more proof of it, as we share the same values and ambition: to inspire the world from Barcelona,” said Wayne Griffiths, president of CUPRA. “The De Antonio Yachts D28 Formentor, inspired by our Cupra Formentor VZ5 , will be just the first project of many. We are both committed to sustainable mobility and already looking into the creation of an e-HYBRID yacht for next year.”

The De Antonio D28 Formentor Yacht is expected to go into production before the end of the year.

D28 Formentor

Seat-Tochter stylt Motorboot Cupra kann jetzt auch Yacht

Porsche hats schon getan, Aston Martin, Bugatti, Mercedes-AMG und Lexus auch: Alle diese Nobelmarken aus der Autobranche haben schon einmal gemeinsam mit einem Bootsbauer eine Yacht lanciert. Weniger als neue Ertragsquelle, sondern als Image-Statement, um ihre Marke zu positionieren.

Daran arbeitet jetzt auch Cupra. Vor drei Jahren beschloss die VW-Tochter Seat, die Bezeichnung ihrer Sportmodelle zur eigenständigen Marke auszubauen. Mindestens so wichtig wie die neuen Modelle wie der Formentor oder der kommende Stromer El-Born: der Style. Inklusive eigener Wohnaccessoires, Bikes, Kleidung und Motorsport-Abteilung. Denn irgendwie muss eine neue Marke ohne gewachsene Tradition à la Alfa Romeo oder Mercedes ja ihren Kunden ein Bild sich vermitteln.

400 PS und Bad an Bord

Jetzt kommt noch ein Motorboot dazu. Kein 20-Meter-Schiff wie bei Lexus – bei der D28 Formentor müssen acht Meter Länge genügen. Sie basiert auf der D28 des spanischen Edel-Bootsbauers De Antonio, bei dem unter anderem auch der Schweizer Stan Chmielewski mit am Ruder steht. Das Boot leistet 400 PS, schafft bis zu 40 Knoten Höchstgeschwindigkeit – fast 75 km/h – und trägt die Cupra-Hausfarben Petrolblau und Kupfer. Platz gibts für bis zu zehn Positionen; ausserdem sind Dusche und WC an Bord.

Der Verkauf der limitierten Cupra-D28 soll Ende Jahr starten – zu noch unbekannten Preisen. Anhaltspunkt: Die Basis-Version der D28 kostet mindestens rund 160'000 Franken. Im kommenden Jahr soll die Kooperation fortgesetzt werden – mit einer Hybridversion mit kombiniertem Elektro-Verbrennerantrieb.

The latest Cupra is actually an ultra-stylish 26-foot yacht

Cupra has unveiled its latest model, but it’s actually a super-stylish yacht and not a car.

Yep – for some reason, automakers have started making yachts now.

Lamborghini has done it , Mercedes-AMG has done it, and now Cupra is just the latest to jump on the trend.

The boat you see here was built in partnership with De Antonio Yachts, a shipwright based in Barcelona.

It’s officially known as the D28 Formentor Hybrid; the name comes from the brand’s first standalone model, the Formentor.

The brand has been working on this project for about two years but it’s safe to say that it was definitely worth the wait.

The boat is as stylish as they come, painted in Graphene Grey, with a Petrol Blue hull along with black and carbon fiber accents.

In fact, the only thing that’s missing is the brand’s flagship copper color.

As the name suggests, the yacht is a hybrid powered by a 400hp (298kW) engine and two 20hp (15kW) electric motors.

We don’t know what this 26-foot (7.9-meter) yacht is going to cost yet so the only thing we can do is speculate.

We know that Lamborghini’s yacht costs $4 million, and we also know that the yacht that Mercedes-AMG built costs around $3 million.

This may be a Cupra, but it is still a yacht, so a 7-figure price tag wouldn’t be shocking after all.

Why haven’t I heard of Cupra before?

Probably because the brand is relatively new on the scene.

In 2018, Cupra was launched as a standalone performance brand owned by Volkswagen.

However, Cupra was originally founded in the mid 1980s as the racing arm of Spanish carmaker Seat.

But it wasn’t until the mid 1990s that the name was applied to sporty versions of Seat’s road cars.

The company has a strong focus on visual marketing and brand identity, especially when it comes to its Catalan origins.

So the fact that its teamed up with a Barcelona-based shipbuilder to make this yacht is clearly not a coincidence.

VW, Cupra & Silent-Yachts plan MEB-based e-ship

Volkswagen is bringing the MEB modular e-drive system onto the water and is cooperating with Silent-Yachts to do so. The Seat brand Cupra is also involved in the project as a design partner.

The jointly-declared goal of Volkswagen, Cupra and Silent-Yachts is to put a ship with MEB propulsion on the water during the course of 2022. After a start-up period of four years, at least 50 of the MEB-based “Silent Yacht 50” will be produced each year.

With the MEB, the VW Group has developed a common platform for electric vehicles for its brands. The platform aims to make electric vehicles’ production “more efficient and cost-effective in the long term”. Simultaneously, Volkswagen has opened up its new platform as an industrial solution for other manufacturers and is also seeking cooperation in other sectors.

Now a new application for the modular e-drive system is emerging in shipbuilding. The idea for the collaboration already arose in 2019 as part of an intrapreneurship programme of the Innovation Fund II within the Volkswagen Group. There, VW became aware of Silent-Yachts. Now Silent-Yachts is relying on the MEB. In a joint statement, the companies said that there are economies of scale in the project because the platform is installed millions of times in the Volkswagen Group’s electric cars. This means, of course, that the yacht can be produced more cheaply. Besides, maintenance and servicing are reduced compared to a conventional yacht, as the electric drive system is less prone to repairs than conventional motors,” a statement said.

VW says: “With this, the Group wants to increase enthusiasm for electric mobility further, demonstrate the technological strengths of its platform and show that driving pleasure, long ranges, quiet cruising and clean mobility are also possible on the high seas.”

Cupra is responsible for the design of the new boat model. Together with Silent-Yachts, Cupra has given the new boat model a “contemporary touch”. But this will not remain a design study: The aim of Volkswagen, Cupra and Silent-Yachts is now to bring the boat project onto the water. In the medium term, at least 50 of the Silent Yacht 50 model are to be produced each year, and more if necessary. Besides, Volkswagen components could also be installed in all other Silent-Yachts models.

Vw launches new solar-electric yacht project with meb platform, cupra design, and silent yachts.

VW has launched a new project to bring to market a new solar-electric yacht in partnership with Silent Yachts using its MEB platform for electric vehicles and a design from its CUPRA team.

We previously reported on Silent Yachts, which is sometimes described as the “Tesla of the seas.”

They produce boats that are powered by solar power and batteries.

Depending on the size, they can produce between 10 and 26 kW of solar power and be equipped with 150 to 532 kWh of battery capacity.

The latter is the equivalent in energy capacity of more than five Tesla Model S sedans.

Silent Yachts can be solely powered by clean energy with the solar panels and batteries feeding electric motors or use a generator depending on your type of use.

Silent Yachts has now delivered 11 electric yachts that are currently on the water, but they are seeing strong demand, and we reported on them ramping up production last year .

VW getting involved with solar-electric yachts

Now Volkswagen is getting involved through a new partnership with Silent Yachts that started as part of an entrepreneur program at the German automaker.

Michael Jost, head of group strategy product as well as CSO of the Volkswagen brand, explains:

Within the Volkswagen Group, we have set up an innovation fund to promote innovative business ideas. About 18 months ago, I was presented with a project to use the MEB in a yacht. At first, I thought the idea was absurd. But then we got to know the potential partner, Silent-Yachts. We were impressed by how committed the company is to the topic of CO₂ neutrality as a supplier of solar-electric powered yachts and has long been considered a sustainability pioneer in the industry. I then discussed with Michael Köhler what we could deliver in a cooperation – namely emotional design and proven technology and can thus bring the Modular E-Drive System MEB from land to water for the first time.

The goal is for VW’s CUPRA to design a new version of Silent Yatchs’ solar-electric vessel powered by the VW’s MEB electric powertrain used in vehicles like the ID.3 and ID.4.

Jost added:

Our Spanish CUPRA colleagues supply the design and we supply the MEB-based powertrain – i.e., batteries, pulse-controlled inverters and the engines from the Volkswagen portfolio. Our software partners also adapt applications – a pulse-controlled inverter is programmed differently for a car than for a yacht. Silent-Yachts can also further adapt the interfaces of our software for their needs. Our current plan is to install up to six batteries per yacht and to enable 500 kW power for yacht sizes around 50 feet plus.

They plan to have the first MEB-powered and CUPRA-designed Silent-Yachts in the water as soon as next year and ramp up production to about 50 vessels per year.
