You Could Permanently Live at Sea on This Residential Cruise Ship

The vessel will navigate the globe indefinitely, and residences start at $1 million..

After a few days of living the high (seas) life aboard a luxury cruise ship, spending time exploring exciting port towns and sampling the all-inclusive restaurants and amenities onboard, you might consider what it would be like to stay on the ship forever.

Sure, you could book a room on a round-the-world sailing , but even then, you’re not really living on a cruise ship.

One residential cruising company, however, is working toward making a permanent seafaring life a viable option. In late 2024, the Croatia-based cruise company Storylines is slated to launch a new residential ship, dubbed MV Narrative , where people can purchase an apartment onboard and sail indefinitely.

The floating community will feature 547 residences, including fully furnished studios with Murphy beds (at 237 square feet), one- to four-bedroom apartments, and two-story penthouses (that range between 1,378 and 1,970 square feet each). The outright purchase price for one of the accommodations starts just shy of $1 million and will go up to $8 million. Like any other home, the residences can be rented out or sold in whatever manner the owner chooses. A select few abodes are also listed for 24-year leases (starting at $600,000, or roughly $25,000 per year). After the initial purchase or lease price, each unit will also be charged a yearly fee, ranging from $65,000 to $200,000, to cover meals, amenities, and maintenance. But once onboard, residents would only need to open their wallets for food, experiences, and trinkets during their time ashore—most everything onboard will be covered by the fees (with the exception of things like premium alcohol, certain medical and veterinary services, childcare, and items from the onboard store).

While it’s not an entirely new idea— The World residences at sea has been sailing since 2002, and Somnio , a residential yacht liner, is expected to set sail in spring 2024—it’s currently the least expsensive option for those who wish to live at sea. ( The World and Somnio ’s smallest accommodations have an estimated starting price of $3 million and $11 million , respectively.)

Storylines was founded in 2016 and is run by Alister Punton and Shannon Lee, two men who previously worked in land-based real estate and construction projects. Per the website, MV Narrative is intended to be more a lifestyle choice and less of an extended vacation. As such, Storylines notes that it will interview potential residents to determine whether they’re a fit for the community.

The plans for the MV Narrative include 20 restaurants across 18 decks, a 10,000-book library, three pools, a garden, a bowling alley, a fitness area with a running track, and a microbrewery. The ship will also house some services not commonly found on other cruise ships due to the nature of its offering, such as a post office, hospital, school (for grades up through 12), bank, and office spaces, to make it feel more like an actual city, just at sea. There will also be outdoor pet exercise areas in case residents want to bring their four-legged friends along for the ride.

The vessel is slated to begin its 1,000-night maiden voyage in late 2024. During that initial nearly three-year-long sailing, the ship will visit six continents and will stop at various ports for one to five days at a time.

One 88-day sample itinerary shows the cruise slowly working its way around most of Italy’s coast over the course of a month, including three days in Rome, four days in Palermo (Sicily’s capital city), and single days in San Leone, Sciacca, and Marsala, among other ports. From there, the ship would spend a few days each in Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, and Albania, before doing a 24-day deep dive into Greece, and then heading to Turkey. Along the way, there would be “Residents Choice” days, where those aboard could vote on where they’d like to go by using a special phone app for residents.

The slow travel schedule, the company states on its website, is part of its sustainable travel initiative, as being in the harbor for days at a time and going shorter distances between stops burns fewer fossil fuels. Other elements include waste-to-energy tech, growing vegetables in the hydroponic garden, and committing to only using biodegradable or reusable items instead of single-use plastics.

Arkup livable yachts can be chartered to carry as many as 12 passengers with or without a crew, operating as an Uninspected Passenger Vessel over 100 gross tons or as a Recreational Vessel — a bareboat charter — according to the U.S. Coast Guards’ safety standards and regulations.

IS THERE ANY TAX INCENTIVE FOR BUYING AN ARKUP LIVABLE YACHT? The maximum taxes levied on the sale of a vessel in the State of Florida are $18,000, including both sales and use tax and discretionary sales surtax. Although there is no direct tax incentive for purchasing a 100-percent solar-electric vessel, you will have no utility bills because the Arkup Livable Yacht generates its own power and water, and it can operate off-the-grid. The property tax does not apply to recreational vessels. The annual registration fee for an Arkup Livable Yacht is approximately $150.

WHERE CAN I LIVE WITH SUCH A VESSEL? The same kind of areas where large yachts dock: marina slips, private docks, waterfront properties, privately-owned submerged lands, or regulated anchorage.

IS IT A HOUSE OR A VESSEL IN VIEW OF LAWS AND REGULATIONS? It is a recreational vessel that must be registered and titled.

WHAT ARE THE ENVIRONMENTAL REGULATIONS FOR OPERATING AN ARKUP LIVABLE YACHT? Laws prohibit anchoring in protected areas in an effort to preserve the waters and sea bottoms. Black- and gray-water discharge must be conducted in compliance with the regulations of individual local jurisdictions.

The Arkup livable yacht structure and anchoring system are designed to resist high winds of as much as 156 miles per hour, or 250 kilometers per hour — equivalent to a Category 4 hurricane. ARE THERE ANY SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS TO OPERATE THE FULLY-ELECTRIC POWERED VESSEL? It requires the same boating experience as any other similar-sized recreational vessel. Thorough training and an extensive manual are provided to all customers. The owner can also hire our certified captains.

HOW MANY GUESTS AND CREW CAN STAY ON THE BOAT WHEN CRUISING OR AT ANCHOR? The Arkup livable yacht can accommodate six to eight people comfortably overnight. The livable yacht can operate as a recreational vessel with a limit of55 passengers (life vests required) or as charter vessels carrying as many as 12 passengers, according to the U.S. Coast Guard’s safety standards and regulations.

CAN I USE AN ARKUP LIVABLE YACHT AS A MOBILE BEACH HOUSE IN THE BAHAMAS OR SOMEWHERE ELSE? Yes, owners of foreign-registered boats (including the U.S.) may keep their vessels in the Bahamas (for instance) for one year without paying duty and may extend the one-year stay for two years by paying a fee of $500. The initial entry fee is $300 to clear Bahamas Customs and Immigration and to obtain a cruising permit. After two years, the vessel would have to depart the Bahamas for one month before applying for a new cruising permit.

HOW TO RECEIVE MAILS, PARCELS OR DELIVERIES? Marinas can provide concierge services or a mailbox or rent a slot at a local Post Office.

DOES THE VESSEL NEED A CAPTAIN TO OPERATE? With adequate boating experience, operating an Arkup Livable Yacht is relatively easy with the training provided by Arkup. A license and safety certification may be required locally.

WHAT KIND OF LICENSE AND INSURANCE ARE NEEDED? Arkup livable yachts are registered and insured as pleasure boats. To operate them, most U.S. states require a driver’s license and boating safety certification for recreational use. For other countries, Arkup can assist you.

CAN WATER SLIDES AND OTHER TOYS BE ADDED? Arkup livable yachts provide plenty of storage space for toys and recreational items. Make the ocean your playground!

HOW IS DISPOSAL OF SEWAGE AND WASTEWATER MANAGED ONBOARD ARKUP LIVABLE YACHTS? Vessel operators are required to retain their sewage discharges on-board for disposal at sea (beyond three miles from shore) or onshore at a pump-out facility. Black and gray waters are stored in a 3,700-gallon (14-cubic-meter) holding tank before being pumped out at either a marina or by a vessel designed to pump out waste. There are other options, such as using an approved U.S. Coast Guard Marine Sanitation Device (MSD) and then discharging within 3 miles offshore according to Clean Water Act regulations.

HOW LONG CAN THE LIVABLE YACHT REMAIN OFF-THE-GRID (WITHOUT POWER AND WATER)? Arkup livable yachts can remain off-the-grid all year long depending on the weather (sun exposure/rainfall) in tropical regions. Without any sun to charge the batteries, a full charge can provide electricity for all household needs for two to three days (without navigation).

The 4,000-gallon fresh-water tank ensures two weeks of self-sufficiency for six people without harvesting any rainwater. If needed, the vessel can connect to shore power to refill the freshwater tank (or add an optional water-maker).

IF I CHOOSE TO LIVE OFF-THE-GRID ON AN ARKUP LIVABLE YACHT, HOW DO I GET TO SHORE? There are many easy options. You can use a tender boat to get to shore via authorized public or private docks, or by renting a slip in a marina where you can dock while you’re on land. There are also many types of amphibious vehicles now available, making it possible to access land through a public boat ramp. Local companies offer water taxi services. WHAT IS THE APPROXIMATE OPERATING COST OF AN ARKUP LIVABLE YACHT?

The cost is much less than a yacht of equivalent size (the annual operating costs of a yacht are typically 10 percent of its value). Compared with a traditional house, the maintenance is roughly equivalent — there is no garden or swimming pool to maintain, but the livable yacht must be cleaned regularly. If the livable yacht is docked in a marina, the slip rental costs will generally be considerably lower than the property taxes on similar waterfront property. The hull can be easily inspected, washed, and maintained when the livable yacht is lifted above the waterline.

HOW ARE TRASH AND GARBAGE HANDLED ONBOARD?

Arkup livable yachts have a dedicated trash room equipped with a trash compactor and recycling bins. The compacted trash is disposed of ashore at public garbage facilities or marinas (a composter for organic waste is optional).

What is the minimum size of boat and crew?  8.23m (27’) length overall (LOA) with at least two people on board.

How long will the rally take?   For the ARC, the typical passage time for a 12m (40’) cruising boat is 18 to 21 days, depending upon the weather conditions and your style of sailing. 

Boats sailing the ARC + route can expect to be at sea for 5 to 7 days to Mindelo, Cape Verde after their departure from Las Palmas. Following the restart, the fleet will reach Camper & Nicholsons Port Louis Marina, Grenada in 12 to 16 days.

What is the fastest crossing time? The ARC course record is 8 days, 6 hours, 29 minutes and 15 seconds, held by Rambler 88 , Juan K. Canting Keel Maxi (George David, USA), set in ARC 2016.

When does the rally start?   ARC 2023 starts in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria on Sunday 19 November. See the Dates and Routes page for full details

Are then any restrictions at the marinas? Boats sailing on the ARC+ St. Vincent route should be aware that there is a draft restriction for entry to Blue Lagoon of 2.3m (7’7”) through the lit marked channel; a deeper channel exists for daytime entry with local pilotage.

Can I use my engine?   This is a cruising rally, so use of engines is OK!  Boats in the fun competition Cruising Division must declare their engine hours for their results to be calculated.  Boats in the Racing Division are NOT allowed to use their engines for propulsion.

What safety equipment do I need?   We have a list of mandatory and recommended safety equipment that we will inspect on board the boat before the rally starts. This includes:

• Approved ocean liferaft with more than 24 hour equipment pack
• 406MHz EPIRB
• Lifejackets with crotch straps, 3-point tethers and spray hoods for all crew
• Full flare pack
• Means of sending and receiving emails at sea

What training should I do?   We recommend that the skipper (captain) and at least one of the crew should have done some safety and communications equipment, heavy weather sailing and emergency management training within the last five years.

Do I need an SSB radio?   No, but the daily radio nets take place on SSB.   At sea you will be outside of VHF range most of the time.  You must be able to send and receive email at sea with an SSB and a pactor modem, or a satellite telephone.

Can I take my children?   Families with children of all ages have sailed in the ARC, and we usually have around 20-30 children each year. We have special children’s activities in Las Palmas, including a week-long Kid's Club for children aged 6-16.

How do I find crew?   Personal recommendations are the best way of finding crew, but you can also register free on  Ocean Crew Link  to look for crew or respond to adverts. The  ARC Facebook page  is another good way to connect.

What about visas?   We will provide information about visas in the Rally Handbook, and the country information pages on  www.noonsite.com  are also helpful.  

Can I take my pets?   We have no restrictions on the animals you carry on your boat, but you must comply with the laws and regulations for your home country and any countries visited by the rally. We will provide advice in the Rally Handbook, or look up the country information on  www.noonsite.com

How many people take part?   The ARC usually has over 200 boats from more than 20 flag nations.  There are over 1200 crew, aged from babies to the over 80s.  We have lots of social activities in Las Palmas to help the crews make new friends. Around 70 yachts sail in the ARC+ fleet.

What about support on the rally?   There will be a team of friendly 'yellow shirts' in Las Palmas and Saint Lucia.  They will help with registration, local contacts, docking, excursions, social activities and emergencies.  You can also contact the World Cruising Club office at any time [email protected] or call +44 (0)1983 296060

How can families at home stay in touch with the boats?   All boats will be fitted with a YB satellite tracker, which will display the boats positions on the online Fleet Viewer.  All boats can also blog for free on the rally website.

What about getting to Gran Canaria?   Join ARC Portugal and start the rally spirit!  ARC Portugal sails from Plymouth, across Biscay and then day-sails to southern Portugal.  All ARC boats travelling south can get discounts in marinas and boatyards on the Atlantic coast - see your Rally Handbook for details.

What about onward cruising from the Caribbean?   You can join ARC Europe, which leaves the Caribbean or east coast USA every May, and cruises to Bermuda and the Azores before crossing the Atlantic to Portugal.  To return to Europe, you could also ship your boat back on a yacht transporter, or arrange a delivery crew.

How MSC’s private island experience is different for cruisers in suites

Do you enjoy large cruise ships but still want to feel like you're in the lap of luxury? Passengers booked in MSC Cruises' Yacht Club cabins and suites have access to high-end amenities – both on the ship and off.

Butlers, exclusive dining and a private pool delight guests on board, but perks also await on MSC 's private island, Ocean Cay Marine Reserve , in the Bahamas. You can expect dedicated trams, towel service and a chance to book the nicest cabanas on the island, among other extras.

MSC Ocean Cay Yacht Club beaches vs. regular beaches

MSC's Ocean Cay Marine Reserve private island is home to seven (soon to be eight) beaches, and all are public, except one — Ocean House Beach, which is the Yacht Club's exclusive swath of sand. Beyond its exclusivity, the beach has a few other differences from the island's regular beaches.

There, use of lounge chairs and umbrellas is free. Chairs at the other beaches are also free and available on a first-come, first-served basis; however, umbrellas come with an extra cost.

Passengers must sign out towels on board the ship before heading ashore to Ocean Cay's main beaches. Yacht Club passengers can skip that hassle and ask for towels at the towel tent found on Ocean House Beach.

Interestingly, I found that several of the public beaches were less crowded than Ocean House Beach. At the latter, chairs were positioned much more closely to one another. If you're willing to walk or hitch a ride on one of the island's trams, you'll find fewer crowds on the farther beaches than if you stick close to the ship.

MSC Ocean Cay Yacht Club food vs. regular dining

Free lunch is included for all cruisers who visit Ocean Cay. For Yacht Club travelers, the Ocean House Restaurant — an exclusive waiter-served dining venue where passengers enjoy their meals on a shaded porch — exudes upscale beach vibes.

During my visit, the menu included starters like crab ceviche, charred octopus and a salad with romaine, tomatoes, jicama, a poached egg and candied bacon in a citrus dressing. Mains featured locally sourced blackened mahi-mahi, lobster roll, carne asada, a grilled portobello mushroom sandwich and one of the best burgers I've ever tasted during a cruise — a blend of Angus chuck, short ribs and grilled brisket with red onion jam and Monterey Jack cheese. Desserts consisted of creme caramel, mango cheesecake and chocolate cake with coffee sauce.

The meals at Ocean House are definitely superior to the fare found at the Seakers buffet, which is where cruisers not staying in the Yacht Club can go for a beach barbecue that serves hot dogs, hamburgers, chicken, macaroni and cheese, red beans, roasted potatoes and a slew of salads, drinks and desserts.

The food is tasty, but lines can be long. An alternative is to head to one of several food trucks throughout the island. Some are free and dole out the same items offered on the buffet but with shorter lines. Others sell entirely different menu items — lobster grilled cheese, fried calamari, shrimp with watermelon, Caribbean ceviche and octopus salad — with the cost charged to cruisers' onboard accounts.

Additionally — and also for an extra fee — a stand near the ship offers specialty coffee and ice cream. (If you're a coffee lover, trust me when I say you won't want to miss the Coco-Nilla Latte.)

MSC Ocean Cay Yacht Club cabanas vs. regular cabanas

There are three types of cabanas on Ocean Cay: Ocean Cay Beach Cabanas, Ocean View Yacht Club Cabanas and Beachfront Yacht Club Cabanas. All three types are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

They can hold up to six people each and include cold water, beach towels and chairs, as well as floating mats for use in the water. As the prices increase, so does the number of inclusions. The last two types are only available for booking by Yacht Club passengers.

Ocean Cay Beach Cabanas, found on South Beach, North Beach and Bimini Beach, are the most affordable on the island at $250 for the day. They've got walls on three sides, and they're outfitted with cushioned couches. They include the basic amenities mentioned above, and anyone can rent them.

Next up are the Ocean View Yacht Club Cabanas, which cost $400 for the day and also entitle you to free lunch and drinks, as well as fresh fruit skewers, four sets of snorkel gear and four floating mats. They're found on the Yacht Club's private Ocean House Beach, so they're off-limits to non-Yacht Club guests.

The most expensive, however, are the Beachfront Yacht Club Cabanas, located in a different section of the Ocean House area. They carry a $450 price tag but offer all the same extras as Ocean View Yacht Club Cabanas.

The draw? They're closer to the water and, therefore, have better views. Although they aren't on the main part of Ocean House Beach, they are still in the exclusive area, near the restaurant, so you don't have to go far to grab food.

Ultimately, the only thing being in the Yacht Club affords you in this case is the option to book more expensive cabanas.

MSC Ocean Cay Yacht Club trams vs. regular trams

At 95 acres, Ocean Cay is sizable. If you're fit, you can walk from one end to the other in about 15 minutes, but if you don't have great mobility or if you're easily overheated, reaching some of the island's more remote beaches can be difficult on foot. That's why MSC offers tram shuttles.

Passengers in standard cabins will find tram stops with shaded waiting areas throughout the island. However, waits can be long, especially if many other people are also in need of a lift.

Yacht Club cruisers can take advantage of trams exclusively for the Yacht Club. They run between a special tent (with free cold water to sip while you wait) set up just inside the entrance to Ocean Cay and the Ocean House beach and restaurant area.

You can make special requests for stops, which the regular trams usually won't accommodate. For example, you might ask to go straight from the tent to South Beach for a volleyball game without stopping anywhere else first.

MSC Ocean Cay Yacht Club activities vs. regular activities

This is the one category where the island's public spaces beat the Ocean House area by a mile. If you're looking for something to do other than eating, drinking or lazing by the beach, you'll have to head back toward the ship because there's not much going on in the exclusive areas.

Everything from massages, lighthouse tours and water sports equipment rentals to beach parties, volleyball games and shore excursions takes place elsewhere. However, perhaps that's by design. The Yacht Club is generally quiet, even on board, and the line likely prefers to keep the raucousness to other locations.

Bottom line

The MSC Yacht Club experience is more exclusive than the standard one at Ocean Cay, with extras like butler service, dedicated trams, towel service, access to pricier cabanas and a private beach and restaurant with better food and shorter waits.

However, all of the action — shore excursions, pickup volleyball games, beach parties, the lighthouse show — happens in the areas that are accessible to everyone, which significantly levels the playing field.

Additionally, items like specialty coffee, ice cream and for-fee food truck orders cost extra for everyone — even Yacht Club passengers.

Overall, Ocean Cay offers a great day for anyone who enjoys the beach, regardless of cabin type.

Yacht-Style Cruising: A Niche Within a Niche

Not truly new to the cruise industry, the concept of yacht-style cruising is gaining steam, with several yacht-style cruise ships on order from The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection, Scenic, and Emerald Cruises. They join SeaDream Yacht Club and Windstar Cruises in offering a small-ship style of cruising that has more in common with private yachting than traditional cruising.

Travel Market Report reached out to some of the major players in the yacht-style cruising niche to find out how it’s different from small-ship cruising, what “yachting” implies, and whether it’s only for the ultra-affluent.

Buzz Word or True Differentiator Is yacht-style cruising different from small-ship cruising or is it merely branding and marketing? If it’s truly a subset of small-ship cruising, then all yacht cruises should have something in common with each other than makes them markedly different from other small ship cruises and cruise lines.

“In today’s market place, the term ‘small ship cruising’ is used liberally and means different things to different people,” Adrienne D’Annunzio, manager of SeaDream Yacht Club, charity & PR. “There are cruise lines touting their ‘small ships,’ which carry anywhere from 260+ to 1,200+ people. It’s an increasingly popular style of cruising and increasingly unclear what ‘small’ means.”

As a subset of small-ship cruising, yacht-style cruising does indeed stand apart. Yacht-style cruise ships, for instance, don’t have the same size range. The largest yacht-style cruise ships carry no more than 500 people. The smallest typically carry about 100, though there are cruise lines with even smaller yachts offering cruise-style itineraries.

Because of their size, yacht-style cruises tend to go to smaller ports than even some of the other small-ship cruise companies.

“These boats are smaller, meaning you can choose to moor up in a marina and explore a quaint town or anchor in a secluded bay to experience the best of the sun and sea,” said Grant Seuren, co-founder and director of Sail Croatia, which operates a small fleet of yachts that can hold up to 40 passengers.

Windstar Cruises, which president Christopher Prelog said offers a “fleet of small luxury ships that evoke the feeling of yachts,” sails to “off-the-beaten-path and iconic destinations that large ships simply can’t access, to explore unique ports-of-call and hidden harbors…”

Additionally, yacht cruises often spend more time in a given port, with later stays and more overnights, providing more of that leisurely style of exploration that yachting is known for.

Distinct Onboard Experience Just as important, yacht-style cruise ships tend to have a similar onboard experience.

 “We view yacht cruising as a lifestyle that is incorporated into each facet of the guest experience,” a spokesperson for The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection said. “Onboard, this experience will reflect what one might find on a private yacht… no casino, show lounge or formal nights. Instead, guests will have the freedom to design their day as they wish…”

“There’s not going to be the type of entertainment that blows you away, like you get on the big lines, because that’s not yachting,” added Maggie Carbonell, vice president of marketing for Scenic.

Another characteristic yacht-style cruise ships have in common is an aft marina, something you won’t find on the vast majority of other small ships. Having an aft marina, from which cruisers can swim and snorkel, was something Carbonell said was top of mind for Scenic when designing its first-ever warm-water yachts for Emerald Cruises.

It’s something that Windstar Cruises, The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection, and Sail Croatia all tout as well.

Marketing Benefit While there is a tangible difference between yacht-style cruising and the rest of the small-ship segment, using the term “yacht” also helps with marketing.

“You need to be able to describe your product in a context that consumers can grasp and go, ‘I understand what that is,’” Carbonell told TMR. “Everyone knows what a yacht is,” she said, adding when she hears the word yacht, she thinks of Robin Leach and the TV show, “The Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous.”

“The pinnacle of luxury is a yacht,” she said. Yachts are spacious. They have lux touches and they convey a feeling of pampering, she added.

A spokesperson for The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection agreed. “Yachting evokes luxury, exclusivity, and the freedom to explore as one wishes… Very much like super-yachts, the yacht itself is a destination.”

But “yachting” also indicates the type of destination experience someone will have.

“Yacht cruising connotes a more casually elegant, outdoor, active experience on the water,” said Bob Lepisto, president of SeaDream Yacht Club. “Whenever someone hears the word yacht, they can see themselves enjoying a luxury experience on the water visiting unique ports.”

Windstar’s Prelog echoed Lepisto. “The word ‘yacht’ defines the style of our smaller ships from a personalized service perspective, as well as the greater access to more exotic and off-the-beaten-path ports away from the rushing crowded world,” he said.

Attainable? Yes. Budget Option? No. While travel advisors don’t need to limit their marketing of yacht-style cruising to the ultra-affluent, it is not a budget option. Prices generally start at about what you find at the upper end of the premium ocean cruise segment, at several thousands of dollars per person. You won’t find much below that.

With that said, most of the cruise executives we spoke with said the value that’s rolled up into their pricing makes it attainable for more people than you might at first suspect.

“When you consider that your accommodation, transportation between the islands and some meals are included, it’s easy to see the value for money…” Sail Croatia’s Seuren said. Other lines, like Scenic, Emerald and Windstar, which include all meals and nonalcoholic drinks, and even some alcoholic drinks and excursions, depending on the line, provide even greater value for the money.

“Chartering a private yacht is a lot more expensive per person than sailing with Windstar Cruises,” Prelog said. “Don’t forget, cruises include accommodations, all meals, nonalcoholic beverages, visits to ports, free watersports, etc.”

Lepisto said almost the same thing. “If you compare a SeaDream voyage price to what it costs to charter your own private yacht, it is incredibly great value. Yes, our pricing is higher than the big cruise ships, however based on the fact it is so highly inclusive the value is exceptional.”

With their new 88  footer from the Double Deck range, Sunreef are unveiling an ultra-comfortable cruising catamaran built for an experienced boating family, and are confirming their ability to complete fully customized projects on the same timescale as production boats.

It took no more than 9 months for the Sunreef 88 DD, first announced at the 2016 Cannes boat show, to see its hulls hit the water in Gdansk, Poland.  Yet this is not just a well-honed semi-custom boat, but a brand new model in the range which is already known to connoisseurs and necessarily demanding owners. Having owned many of the best in English and Italian motor yachts, this family got into sailing with a beautiful 25 meter ketch.  The natural instability of a heeling monohull prompted them to ask Ian Sellers, their skipper, to think of another solution.  The choice of a sailing catamaran was a logical one: the space, stability, low draft, panoramic view and the economical running are irrefutable arguments for those who want XXL-sized comfort.  

A good average speed to cross the Atlantic or to reach new anchorages in the Caribbean islands after a beautiful summer season in the Mediterranean also guided their choice.  It simply remained to find a shipyard capable of satisfying the wishes of the owner.  With a budget of more than 4 million euros, this owner was looking for a boat that was not just ultra-equipped and of the highest quality, but a unit that was entirely made ...

Description.

The start of the ambitious Sunreef 88 Double Deck project was officially communicated during Sunreef Yachts’ press conference at the Cannes Yachting Festival 2016. After eight months of intensive work, the shipyard proudly announced the launch of this catamaran with a zealous, sporty look.

An experienced yachtsman switching from a massive motor yacht , the owner decided to commission the Sunreef 88 Double Deck to pursue a more stable navigation style with greater living space. Indeed, a challenging project for the shipyard’s engineering and design teams.

Nonetheless, this journey was destined to keep the promise of delivering a state-of-the art fully customized sailing catamaran from the start. To achieve the goal of building a seaworthy and dynamic catamaran, Sunreef Yachts’ team of naval architects conceived a completely new yacht design which seemed far sportier than the rest.

Same as all yachts within her range, the Sunreef 88 Double Deck too features a mezzanine level inside the saloon and a spacious master stateroom with a panoramic view in the bow part of the main deck. However, her superstructure was granted a more aerodynamic aspect. As a result, the 88-footer emphasis equally on both performance and luxury, offering over 300m² of living space and an outstanding sailing experience.

Despite this, the Sunreef 88 Double Deck remains a family-friendly yacht offering the best of comfort and safety. The innovative composite superstructure of the sailing yacht conceals a smart and functional layout with luxurious accommodations for eight guests and up to five crew members.

Upon the owners’ request, the interior decor of the Sunreef 88 Double Deck features exclusive natural materials: Chambord oak, linen, leather, natural stone, and quartz tiles – all contribute to the warm and welcoming atmosphere of the sailing yacht . The feeling of warmth was also achieved through applying numerous orange accents to the interiors – an important color for the owner’s family who consider it to be a symbol of energy.

New Sunreef 92 Double Deck Sailing Catamaran

From the same people who brought you the original Sunreef Yacht, comes the new Sunreef 92 Double Deck , with a new design which not only streamlines the deck house, but tops it with a giant 40 m 2 fly bridge.

This was inspired by similar designs found on other super yacht designs. In collaboration with K-Epsilon and Rivoyre Ingenierie , The Sunreef Naval Architecture Bureau has intensely studied performance and sea capabilities using state of the art CFD, computational flow dynamics to create the ultimate in catamaran luxury.

Using integrated stepped hull chins, the Sunreef 92 Double Deck catamaran increases interior space, without compromising performance. Now this yacht can accommodate up to 10 guests, in up to 5 double luxury suites, as well as a crew of four.

Sunreef’s 92 Double Deck also features a canoe style boom and carbon mast, one of this manufacturer’s specialties. How are they able to accomplish such feats? They added a new mezzanine floor, which includes a coffee table and lounge, located on the port side of the main deck dining area, freeing up more space below for larger cabins and storage space, or even more suites if you prefer.

Because of this innovative design modification, now the owner’s suite occupies two floors of the entire front area of this yacht, with a private luxury office, gym and leisure area on the upper level, with the bathroom, wardrobe and storage area below deck. Each cabin has an extended size, three way access to their King sized beds, with spectacular panoramic sea views. Not only this, but each luxury suite comes with its own separate bath and shower area, large closets, storage lockers, as well as their own air conditioning and a comprehensive entertainment system.

With a LOA of 27 meters, an 11.2m beam, and a 1.6m draft, this super yacht has a 80 ton displacement. It will also be powered by two 405HP 1200 L/3170 Gal engines, and will be able to cruise at speeds up to 15 knots. The 70m 2 cockpit will also include a large dining area, sunbathing mattresses, and diving equipment. Its spacious fly bridge is fitted with a jacuzzi, two wet bars, barbecue, ice makers and even a pair of jet skis. It will also include a tender, hidden in a specially built locker under the main sun pad of the cockpit.

Even though this is only the second of such models, it isn’t hard to see why the Sunreef 92 Double Deck sailing catamaran is on it’s way to be one of the most sought after luxury yachts. With it’s innovative design, state of the art electronics, and focus on luxury, the Sunreef 92 Double Deck is top of the line, and a must for people who may still think they have it all. A seafaring adventure on island routes double-decker catamaran cruise.

Embark on a luxury catamaran cruise adventure out of Ocho Rios, Jamaica that takes adventure to new heights.

Standing on the dock, I pause a moment to let my gaze travel slowly upwards at the gleaming catamaran floating before me. Rocking gently in the calm Caribbean Sea, the beautiful double-decker  Calipsoul  seems familiar yet exciting and new to me all at the same time. I had chosen Island Routes Catamaran Dunn’s River Cruise the last time I was in Ocho Rios, Jamaica. It had been the perfect combination of relaxation and excitement that I had been looking for. We had also done the romantic Lovers Rock evening cruise, literally sailing into the sunset together. Making the cruise reservation Both times it had turned out exactly as promised and this time around when I knew I was heading back to Jamaica, I reached out to the wonderfully helpful Island Routes team yet again. I spoke with them about how much I had enjoyed the last catamaran excursion I did with them and shared that this time I would be coming with a group of friends and family of all ages. I had enjoyed the snorkeling aspect of the Dunn’s River cruise so much but it had been fairly short and some of my group said they really wanted to let loose and relax.

Island Routes Reggae Family catamaran cruise They suggested the Island Routes Reggae Family catamaran cruise. They explained that it was like The Dunn’s River cruise minus the climbing, which my mom was happy to hear about, and a lot of time spent exploring the underwater world. Then they told me how great my timing was as they now have a brand new double-decker catamaran! To be honest, I couldn’t quite picture it so I didn’t know what to expect. Standing here, about to step onto the Calipsoul , I am filled with delight as the kids all leap aboard. We aren’t the only family on board that day and as my group is fairly large, coming over on the shuttle service from the Beaches all-inclusive family resort, I had been worried about feeling crowded. Yet, what we discover is the perfect blend of being able to find ample areas for ourselves while also having the opportunity to meet other people as equally excited as we are.

Snorkeling lesson Once in the water, we are directed by the crew, who have joined us, where to swim and, along the way, they make sure to point out coral formations and beautiful fish ensuring we have an amazingly immersive experience (pun intended). I explore for ages and I am very excited as I brought my waterproof camera with me this time and aim to meet my self-imposed challenge of taking an underwater selfie with tropical fish. Although unsuccessful because they move pretty quickly, I still have a blast. Suddenly, someone is tapping me on my shoulder and I pop my head up to see one of the crew members guiding me back to the boat. Making my way back I realize that, as strong a swimmer as I am, I’m pretty happy to have the life vest on as it allows me to keep looking underwater while I make my way back without having to put in too much effort in keeping myself headed in the right direction so all my focus is on the magical world below me. Trampoline for the kids, hammocks for the adults We climb aboard and the teenagers head to the trampoline area (I was told that’s what it’s called). For people who may not normally hang out on a boat, this area serves an engineering purpose but is also a pretty cool place to just hang out on as it’s like a flat stretched-out hammock where you can just lay out and chill. I divest myself of the fins, mask, and vest and realize I’m pretty hungry! Lunch on the ocean Luckily, the food comes out and everyone piles up their plates with tropical fruit, delicious wraps and chips, and salsa, and we head for a sunny spot on the upper deck of the catamaran. We start chatting with other people and decide it’s just about the right time for the rum version of that delicious fruit punch (after all we’re in Jamaica, how can we pass up the delicious rum when no one is driving or diving). My husband opts for a cold Red Stripe instead and leans back to work on his tan. Learning Jamaican dance moves We hear music and a lot of laughter below and realize the trampoline is empty. I decide to leave my husband happily tanning and I follow the music only to discover a full-blown dance class, as the crew is teaching everyone the latest Jamaican dancehall dance moves. Although I feel a little self-conscious when I join in, that quickly fades away as everyone tries their best to match the expertise of the crew. Over on the right, two little girls have their own crew member showing them what to do and they catch on quickly, delighted grins lighting up their faces. I manage to muddle through and I’m pretty sure my sister is going to show these videos to everyone once we get back home for an evening full of a similar level of laughter at my expense. First Sunreef 88 double deck catamaran launched

The first hull in the Sunreef 88 range of double deck sailing catamarans has been launched in Gdansk for a European owner, the Polish yard has announced.

This fully personalised multihull superyacht measures 26.82 metres LOA and was styled inside and out by the in-house team at  Sunreef Yachts .

In a statement, the Polish yard added that the design of the Sunreef 88 is “a great display of the shipyard’s non-conformist attitude and a genuine example of an avant-garde sailing catamaran concept”.

Captain Ian Sellers added: "She is a beautifully crafted, fully customised transoceanic catamaran, with superb quality and finish."

The design brief was focussed on three key themes: luxury, performance and privacy. To this end, the Sunreef 88 features more than 300 square metres of living space — an impressive figure for a yacht of this size, proving that bigger isn't always better .

This two-deck sailing yacht will feature an extensive flybridge with a central helm station and plenty of al fresco dining and relaxation spaces. Back aft, the cockpit features a central dining table with seating space for ten guests as well as a second sunbed, making good use of the Sunreef 88's 11.2 metre beam.

The in-house design includes sporty and dynamic exterior lines, as well as a fully customised interior layout. Key features include a mezzanine level in the saloon and a main-deck owner's cabin , which boasts superb views out to sea through panoramic windows.

Auxiliary power comes from a pair of 425hp engines drawing on a total fuel capacity of 8,000 litres, while her total sailplan is in excess of 345 square metres.

Sunreef added that the designers drew inspiration for this single-masted sailing yacht from the 35 metre flagship yacht Che , which was launched in 2010. The Sunreef 88 is the sixth superyacht from the Polish yard, which has also created the Sunreef 102 yacht Ipharra .

In the Moscow region there is a small cozy town Elektrostal. Its sights for the most part have no historical value due to the fact that the city has a relatively small history. But for a visiting tourist or city dweller, they will be of interest. There is something to see, where to go to have an exciting leisure time.

Today the population of the city is 158 thousand people. Until the beginning of the 20th century there were several small workers' settlements here. After the opening of the electrometallurgical and equipment factories, the place began to be called the natural boundary of Calm. The construction of the railway made this settlement accessible, and workers and families flocked here to earn money. In 1925, the station was named Elektrostal, and the rapid increase in population allowed the village to receive the status of a city.

The founder of the city is a prominent Russian industrialist Nikolai Vtorov. It was he who opened the plant here, creating, in fact, a city-forming enterprise that is still operating. In Soviet times, it was a closed facility, and it was not easy to get to work here.

Today Elektrostal is a promising industrial city with a great future and a heroic past. It bears the proud name "City of Military and Labor Glory".

Those who come to the city by train are met by a monument to the metallurgist. It was installed in November 2017 for the 100th anniversary of the Elektrostal plant. The attraction is made in the style of constructivism. The monument quickly won the love of the townspeople, because this city is supported by ordinary workers.

Elektrost altsy and the founding father of the plant, Nikolai Vtorov, are honored. In 2002, a monument was opened in honor of him, which became a landmark of the city of Elektrostal. The bronze sculpture is installed on the site where once stood a monument to the leader of the world proletariat, V. I. Lenin. Times change, characters change. Today, the plant, founded a century ago, is the largest in Russia. Vtorov himself, whose fortune was estimated at 60 million rubles in gold, according to Forbes magazine, was the owner of the largest capital at the beginning of the century. He was a banker, an industrialist, an entrepreneur, a man of action.

The monument was erected byinitiative of the townspeople who wished to perpetuate the monument to the great man.

One of the popular places for spending weekends and evenings among citizens and guests of the city is the Park of Culture and Leisure.
