It’s a bit of an understatement to say Porsche has a thing for the color blue. Since the company’s start in 1931, they’ve released well north of 70 unique shades that have adorned everything from the 356 to the Cayenne. But no car has benefitted from Porsche’s Eiffel 65 tendencies more than the 911. Ever since it started rolling off the line in ’63, the car has felt like it was meant to be coated in blue paint.

The best example in recent memory of this, perhaps, is the 911 Targa Design Edition , released last year in Etna blue — a flat, light-toned callback to an original paint chip from the 356. We liked the color at first sight, sure. But was it the best blue for the car? An argument in the Gear Patrol office ensued, and after a couple hours and a few broken bones, we ended up with the list of highlights and lowlights provided below — with context where necessary.

Oslo is a great place. It’s the capital of the world’s fourth-happiest nation and home of the oldest ski museum in the world. It’s also the best 911 blue paint chip there’s ever been. It’s dark but not too dark, vibrant but not too vibrant, flat but not boring. It works best on air-cooled versions with lots of brightwork, but catch a 997 Turbo in Oslo and you’ll realize why it’s number one.

Like a navy blue suit, Aga’s part of the reserved old guard that helps keep pre-’70s 911s classified as timeless.

King of the modern Porsche blues, Miami stays just on the right side of obnoxious.

Albert’s the very serious, slightly moody member of the Porsche blue set. There’s definitely a hint of purple, but it works perfectly.

If you scroll (very) far down this list, you’ll see how Porsche can screw up the blue-green mix, but Petrol is the perfect execution of it. Get it on an aggressively ’80s 930.

Like, 99% the exact same as Albert, but with a little less of that cool purple tinge.

Porsches aren’t visually very loud; a $200,000 Turbo S will look pretty pedestrian next to a $160,000 Audi R8. That is, unless you paint it Mexico Blue. If you want a blue Porsche and are a cocaine enthusiast, this is your car.

The front lid, roof and exterior mirror top half in visible high gloss carbon fiber, and the rear wing in partial high gloss carbon fiber sharpen the motorsport character of the new 911 GT3 RS.

The fine tuning continues with the lightweight PDK gearshift paddles made of magnesium, a dashboard upper section covered with Black Race-Tex, interior elements in a satin carbon fiber-weave finish, a badge with the "Weissach RS" logo on the passenger side and headrests with the "Weissach RS" embroidered logo.

The anti-roll bars on the front and rear axles, coupling rods on the rear axle and the carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) shear panel also provide the ideal weight on the way to new personal bests.

As soon as the lights give the starting signal, the new 911 GT3 RS delivers unbelievable performance of up to 342 lb-ft on the racetrack. With up to 518 hp, taking you from 0-60 mph in 3.0 seconds, it can reach a top track speed of 184 mph. The lightweight stainless steel sport exhaust system ensures an unfiltered sound experience up to a maximum of 9,000 rpm.

Modern motorsport technology sets the tone in the 4.0-liter high revving naturally aspirated engine: 4-valve technology including rocker arms and rigid valve drive, as well as forged pistons and titanium connecting rods. The oil supply is optimized and ready for high lateral forces, thanks to dry sump lubrication with a separate engine oil tank.

The electronic adjustment of the damping control system actively and continuously adjusts the damping force on each wheel, based on current road conditions and driving style. PASM has two settings: sporty-comfortable and sporty-firm.

Porsche Stability Management.

PSM is an automatic control system for maintaining stability at the limits of dynamic driving performance. The system interventions can be switched off completely in two stages, for intentional sporty handling on the race track.

Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus.

In conjunction with 7-speed PDK, PTV Plus operates with an electronically regulated and fully variable rear differential lock with fully variable torque distribution, resulting in increased traction and improved lateral dynamics and enhanced stability when cornering under load change conditions and when changing lanes.

Other performance highlights.

Chassis bearings with ball joints.

For maximum performance. Precise, sharp and direct handling. And a particularly firm connection between the chassis and body. All chassis bearings are equipped with ball joints, further increasing dynamics and precision.

Front Axle Lift System.

The optional front-axle hydraulic lift system raises the front of the 911 GT3 RS by 1.6 in. This minimizes the risk of scraping on curbs, ramps and parking garage entrances when maneuvering.

Rear-axle steering with sport setup.

At low speeds, the system steers the rear wheels in the opposite direction to that of the front – increasing agility, especially in corners. At high speeds, the system steers the rear wheels in the same direction as the front wheels. This increases stability, especially at high speeds or when overtaking on the race track.

The 911 GT3 RS already has a particularly powerful brake system as standard – which has been optimized again for use on the race track: with 6-piston aluminum brake calipers painted in Red at the front and 4-piston aluminum brake calipers at the rear in monobloc construction for high dimensional stability and very good response and release of the brakes. The lowered and internally vented compound brake discs reduce the unsprung and rotating masses and thus the weight, thanks to their two-part design with aluminum brake chambers.

The optional Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes (PCCB) discs are around 50% lighter than cast iron discs of a comparable design. Committed to lightweight construction and motorsport, the cross-drilled ceramic brake discs are 410 mm at the front and 390 mm at the rear in diameter – for enhanced braking performance. And improves safety under high-speed braking, thanks to its excellent fade resistance.

When Porsche unveiled the 992-generation 911 GT3 , it did so with a striking display car finished in a new shade dubbed Shark Blue.

The German automaker has heaps of eye-catching shades of blue in its palette, including icons like Riviera Blue, Miami Blue, Gulf Blue, and Mexico Blue. With Shark Blue, Porsche continues its affinity with the hue and Porsche GT boss Andreas Preuninger has now revealed what inspired this new color.

Speaking with Autocar , Preuninger said the color is actually inspired by a superyacht he saw.

“I was lying on the beach in Sardinia and this big, beautiful superyacht passed by – 300ft, very elegant – and it had this gleaming blue hull,” he said. “I was on my feet with my camera, because I thought ‘that’s exactly the colour we need’, and the rest is history.”

Those not so fond of Shark Blue will be pleased to know that the new 911 GT3 is available with a plethora of different standard colors, including the likes of Guards Red, Racing Yellow, Black, White, Gentian Blue Metallic, Lava Orange, and Python Green. Should customers have the extra cash, they can also order custom colors through the Paint-to-Sample program.

As a refresher, the 2021 Porsche 911 GT3 features a naturally-aspirated 4.0-liter flat-six engine that revs to 9,000 rpm and delivers 502 hp and 346 lb-ft (469 Nm) of torque. This engine can be coupled to either a seven-speed dual-clutch PDK or a six-speed manual driving the rear wheels.

Much like the traditional Moscow Mule, this version of the Blueberry Mule is traditionally served in a copper mug filled with ice and garnished with mint leaves and lime. It has the added textures and flavors of blueberries and blueberry syrup. 

The ingredients needed for the blueberry ginger syrup include:

• 3/4 cup unsweetened ginger juice
• 3/4 cup sugar 
• 1/2 cup blueberries

The ingredients needed for the Blueberry Moscow Mule include: 

• 1- and 1/2-ounce vodka 
• 1/2-ounce blueberry ginger syrup 
• 1/2-ounce lime juice 
• 1 cup ginger beer

To create the blueberry ginger syrup:

• Place saucepan in medium heat and add the ginger juice, sugar, and blueberries.
• Once boiling, reduce heat and let simmer for an extra 20 minutes. 
• Strain the thick syrup into a sealable container. Store in the refrigerator.

To create the Classic Blueberry Moscow Mule:

• In a copper mug, add the ginger beer, vodka, and lime juice.
• Pour some blueberry ginger syrup then stir. Add ice.

Now, the great thing about this first variation is you can enjoy it two ways: you can either enjoy sipping on the blueberry vodka all on its own with the recipe below, or you can go full regalia and use it to make Blueberry Moscow Mules that have stronger hints of this delightful little fruit. 

Let’s start with the blueberry vodka. 

The ingredients include:

• 2 pounds fresh blueberries, washed 
• 1.75 ml bottle of vodka 

This blueberry vodka recipe is easier than pie! In a sealable container, drop in the washed blueberries and pour in vodka. Cover the mixture and let this sit in room temperature for one week. After a week, voila! You’ll have yourself an easy, fruity drink that needs only crushed ice and great company to enjoy it with. 

But that’s not why we’re here. Let’s get into the nitty-gritty of this Blueberry Moscow Mule recipe. Here’s what you’ll need: 

• Fresh mint leaves 
• 2-3 ounces blueberry vodka  
• Juice of 1 lime 
• crushed ice 
• 12-ounce can of ginger beer
• In your palm, smash the stem of the mint leaf with your thumb then clap both hands together. This releases the flavor of the mint leaf much better than muddling ever will. 
• In a copper mug, drop in the clapped mint leaves then fill with crushed ice. 
• Add 2-3 ounces of blueberry vodka
• Squeeze in a wedge of lime, then top off this delightful concoction with ginger beer. 
• Add crushed ice.

Optional: Strain pieces of the blueberry from the vodka and use as a garnish. 

Note: If you or your guests find the mixture too strong, simply add more ginger beer into their mug.

Variation 2: Frozen Blueberry Mule 

This recipe relies heavily on crushed ice and the blueberry syrup as a base. This Blueberry Moscow Mule is a beautiful alternative to frozen margaritas! This is one of those recipes that take some level of preparation, but a few of these and you and your friends will be belting your favorite songs without a care in the world in no time. 

Create the simple syrup using these ingredients:

• 1 cup of sugar
• 1 cup water
• 1 cup fresh blueberries
• In a saucepan, add the sugar, water, and blueberries. 
• Place pan in medium flame until boiling.  
• Once boiling, lower the heat and let simmer for an additional 20 minutes. 
• Take the saucepan out of the flame, and, using a strainer, pour into a jar. Let the syrup cool down to room temperature before storing in the refrigerator. 

Now onto the Mule!

Ingredients needed include:

• 1 cup ginger beer 
• 4-ounce vodka 
• 2-ounce lime juice 
• 2-ounce blueberry syrup that you’ve got sitting in your fridge  
• Crushed ice 
• Mint leaves and blueberries for garnish
• Combine the ginger beer, vodka, lime juice, and blueberry syrup in a blender and blend accordingly. 
• Add crushed ice and blend again. 
• Pour into drink containers (copper mugs or margarita glasses) and garnish with fresh blueberries and mint leaves.
• Serve and sing your heart out!  

Variation 3: Blueberry Mule with Whiskey

This is an unorthodox variation of the Blueberry Mule . For this recipe, we’ll be using whiskey instead of the usual dash of vodka. This will add an unusual but ultimately delicious depth of smokey and sweet flavors to the mix. One great advantage of this variation is that it requires very little preparation, so it’s great for surprise guests or if you’ve just had a long, hard day and want to unwind with something other than a boring bottle of beer. 

The ingredients for this Blueberry Moscow Mule Recipe include:

• 1 lemon wedge 
• 2 tsp organic sugar 
• 15 fresh blueberries 
• 2-ounce whiskey 
• 1-2-ounce ginger beer
• In a shaker, muddle the lemon and blueberries in with the sugar. 
• Pour the whiskey in and shake.
• Fill a copper mug or a regular whiskey glass with crushed ice.
• Strain the blueberry with whiskey mixture into the glass.
• Top off with ginger beer.
• Garnish with lemon slices, blueberries, and mint leaves.  

Variation 4: Low Carb Keto Version

Watching out for your summer bod and enjoying a sweet drink every now and then shouldn’t have to be mutually exclusive activities. This Low Carb Keto Blueberry Mule sports only 72 calories and 2 grams net carbs, allowing you to both stick to your Keto diet and indulge in this sweet and (almost) sinful drink. 

This recipe requires a homemade blueberry juice for the base of this cocktail, and the ingredients needed include:

• 1 cup fresh or frozen blueberries 
• 1 tablespoon sugar substitute (Splenda, Equal, Stevia, or any granulated erythritol sweetener)
• 1/3 cup water
• In a blender, pour in the blueberries, sweetener, and water. Blend until smooth.
• Strain the juice as you pour into a jar.
• Store the blueberry juice in the refrigerator until use. 

To make the cocktail, prepare these ingredients:

• ½ ounce of the blueberry juice
• 1-ounce vodka
• ½ teaspoon lime juice
• 4-ounces diet ginger beer
• 1 teaspoon of sugar substitute (Splenda, Equal, Stevia, or any granulated Erythritol sweetener)
• ¼ teaspoon powdered cinnamon
• In a shaker, combine the blueberry juice, vodka, lime juice, and ice. Shake for 10 seconds. 
• Add the ginger beer in the shaker and stir with a spoon. 
• In a saucer, mix the cinnamon powder and sugar substitute
• Moisten the rim of the glass with the lime wedge and dip in the cinnamon and sugar mixture.
• Add ice into a glass and pour the mixture in.
• Garnish with lime and fresh blueberries. 

Variation 5: Blueberry Lemon Ice Cubes 

This simple preparation of blueberry ice cubes is exactly what it sounds like: ice cubes that are designed to both keep your drink cold and infuse a stronger blueberry flavor as you nurse the drink in your hand. This variation works absolutely perfect with the Classic Blueberry Moscow Mule! 

Prepare the ice cubes using these ingredients:

• 1 ½ cups of blueberries
• ½ fresh lemon
• ½ cup of white grape juice
• In a blender, squeeze out and pour in the lemon juice with the blueberries and grape juice. Blend until smooth. 
• Using a lidded ice tray, pour in the liquid.
• Place the tray in the fridge and wait a while. It’ll take more than a few hours to freeze, so it’s a good idea to prepare these ice cubes way ahead of time before entertaining any guests. 

Now, these ice cubes work best with the most basic of all Blueberry Moscow Mules! This is the stuff you will need per serving:  

• 5-7 blueberry ice cubes
• 2-ounces vodka
• 4-ounces ginger beer
• Fresh blueberries
• Mint leaves
• 2-3 slices of lemon
• Fill the copper mug with blueberry ice cubes.
• Pour in the ginger beer and vodka.
• Garnish with lemon slices, mint leaves, and fresh blueberries.
