Coronado Center Cockpit Sailboat - 40 ft LOA - Great live-aboard

Coronado Center Cockpit Sailboat - 40 ft LOA - Great live-aboard

Bainbridge Island, Washington

Make Coronado C35

Posted Over 1 Month

Great liveaboard sail boat. Many will tell you that it is one of the roomiest boats inside for this size of a boat. Flushdeck design allows approximately 6' headroom throughout, except about 7 ft near the companionway in the main cabin. I've lived aboard for four years, and it was like a mini apartment inside. The center cockpit allows for a nice size stateroom in the back with a full queen size bed (10" thick futon mattress with inner coil springs, is only a year old. I upgraded the anchor to a 70lb CRQ plow, with about 40 ft chain, and then rope. Helps me to sleep well at anchor knowing I won't go anywhere. Also has a smaller dansforth style anchor onboard. Pictures show interior. Rear bed sleeps 2-3 (Queen), front V-birth is roomy and sleeps two just fine, Couch in main cabin folds up into bunks for 2. We have slept 7 aboard very comfortably. 2 more can sleep in the cockpit if you add air mattresses or make cushions to lay on. About the boat: It is older, but in pretty good shape for the age. (Much better than others I looked at when buying). I sail it to the San Juan Islands about once a year for 2 week getaways. I love anchoring out in harbors. Sails are older. Main looks pretty good, but genoa looks older with a small patch that I added last year due to a tear. Probably about due for new one. I have never used the spinnaker, but it is a bright yellow and blue, symmetrical, with 3" pole I bought for $300, and I purchased a sock to use for it. Boat is sloop rigged, but has connections to add a stay, and run it as a cutter rig. I have a stay sail for it, that I believe is Engine was pulled and replaced with an inboard electric by a professional ($4,000) about 5 years ago. it is 36V (6 golf cart batteries). It pushes the boat about 5-6 knots, but at full speed only lasts about an hour. Batteries are 6 years old though, and if replaced with higher volume you might get a lot more. (Or add another bank). It is great for getting in and out of marinas, but for longer trips, I use a 15 horse outboard on the back which is included. I think the impellar went out on it though. I ran it a couple months ago and it wasn't pumping water. I would consider replacing it if I kept it this boat. I have also considered putting a diesel back in for long cruises down to mexico. All plumbing, etc. still seems to be there for a diesel. There is an 8 ft inflatable RIB dinghy that hangs from davits off the back. It has a 6 horse mercury, that is 1-1/2 years old and still under warranty. Great for getting around in bays when at anchor. (I go to the San Juan's a lot). I was going to sell separately, but will include if full price is paid for the boat. Offers below full price won't include the dinghy or smaller outboard. I will sell them separately to recoup some of the difference or keep it for lake fishing. Dodger seems to have been replaced with a frame that is 7" too wide. I had planned on taking a little out of the middle, but please assume that there is no canvas over cockpit. You can have the dodger that I have, but it won't fit as is. Will need to be made smaller. (Material is very good though). Hot water heater was replaced last summer with an 11 gallon stainless (electric) model. Great for multiple showers. I have used it 24 hours after power shut off and still hot. I have a Honda generator that I used to run for the water heater and microwave when at anchor, and to charge the house batteries every couple days. I intend to keep the generator though. I bought it used for under a $1,000 though, so they are easy to come by. Not much in the way of electronics. I have a hand held GPS, hand held (waterproof) VHF, and depth finder up on deck, that are all only a couple of years old. The main VHF is mounted below, but is older, and I never used it, because I was always up above. Refer seems to stop getting cold sometimes and then after I tap on temperature sensors inside, it sometimes starts working again. Haven't figured out if it is a loose wire, or not. There is also a small dorm sized freezer in one of the lockers. It runs off of 110V. Stove is a 2 burner propane unit on gimbals. Has an oven. 2 ea 40 gallon water tanks (80 total). 17 gallon diesel tank in case you put diesel engine back in it. You can buy a used one for a couple thousand. I am currently about 400 miles away, so it is either buy unseen, in which case I will drive there to meet after deposit is made. Or, I will be up in the area the last week of the month to show it if it is not sold yet. Feel free to email to make arrangements to see it. I intend to have it sold this month, even if I have to take less than asking price. Current moorage is $412/mo. It is an awesome small harbor/bay and small marina with great facilities (laundry, rec room available for watching games or entertaining, exercise room, full showers, etc. You can see downtown Seattle skyline from the middle of the harbor. People anchor out there all the time. There is a ferry nearby that goes to downtown Seattle. Or, it is about a 45 minute to 1 hr sail with a 10 knot wind. You can live-aboard if you make arrangements with owner of marina, but he may want a little more money.

27' Catalina Sailboat

27' Catalina Sailboat

Seward, Alaska

We are looking to sell our 27' Catalina sailboat we have been living aboard the past year. Its a great small sailboat for learning for the family or a singlehander with a big suite of sails. Not originally meant for liveaboards in Alaska but we have made it cozy, warm and able to stay off the grid. We spent last winter and spring cruising around exploring Resurrection Bay and Day Harbor. Overhauled (2015) ocean-capable cruiser. Would make a great live aboard or offshore cruiser. Has survived 7 hurricanes. Everything below the waterline was replaced last year (through-hulls, engine shaft, propeller, etc). AC, refrigeration, LPG stove/oven, 90 gal water, 40 gal diesel. Perkins 4108 engine - runs great, rebuilt 2012. Complete details in survey. All recommendations in survey have been completed. Everything integral to the performance of the boat has been maintained or restored. There are some quirks, as with any boat though, most are cosmetic: The cushions are old and could use new upholstery, some stains and tears. The overhead upholstery is the same, stained with some tears, but overall acceptable condition. Side hatches leak to some extent; last winter I temporarily sealed them with silicone but there is some water damage to the overhead upholstery and some of the wood veneer has gotten soft over the years and fell away. All the top hatches do not lock closed (they close completely but the locks on them are broken). The refrigerator runs but does not get very cold. It takes R12. I have a can of it I bought recently but haven't added it to the system yet. The air conditioner blows very cold, recently replaced the capacitor for the motor and added a brand new water pump but the hose is old and could be replaced. All of the wood outside could use some sanding and varnish. I don't know how to pilot it so it has sat at the marina for the last year. Survey appraises it at $34,000, I'm asking $32,000. Money talks, come take a look make me an offer. Dozens of recreational boats use alternate channel to pass collapsed Key Bridge for first time

BALTIMORE — Chuck and JoAnn Anderika were up before dawn Tuesday to bring their sailboat back home.

The Anderikas set out around 6 a.m. from Solomons Island, headed for Baltimore. The couple wanted to ensure they made it in time to take advantage of a one-hour window for recreational boats to pass by the wreckage of the Francis Scott Key Bridge and into the harbor, where they have a slip.

“We were afraid to miss it,” Chuck Anderika said.

The Anderikas’ boat was among nearly two dozen to pass the Key Bridge Tuesday evening using an alternate channel that had previously been accessible only to commercially essential vessels and those helping to clear the wreckage around the bridge. Recreational boats had been unable to enter or exit the harbor since a container ship struck the bridge on March 26, sending it into the Patapsco River. Six construction workers died in the collapse, which has also hampered traffic in and out of the Port of Baltimore.

Tuesday’s opening for recreational boats was a one-time trial run, for now. Sailboats, yachts and other vessels were allowed to travel out of the harbor between 6:30 a.m. and 7:30 a.m., and into it between 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. Seventeen recreational boats passed through the Sollers Point Alternate Channel in the morning, and 23 used the channel in the evening, according to the Key Bridge Response Unified Command.

Though the Coast Guard has not announced another opportunity for recreational boats to come and go, local marinas are hoping they will. Tuesday’s passage came after a meeting between Unified Command and marina leaders, who explained the impact of a closed harbor on their business.

“There’s a whole ecosystem built around the marinas,” said Paul Sanett, the chief commercial officer for Oasis Marinas, which manages nearly half of Baltimore’s boat slips. “There’s restaurants, there’s bars, there’s shops.”

For Wayne Easton, a marina is home. Easton is the dockmaster at Anchorage Marina in Canton, where he also lives aboard a boat.

Tuesday evening, he headed toward the Key Bridge site, a 5-mile trip by water from Canton, to greet the Anderikas and other returning Anchorage Marina slip-holders. The day was clear and bright, but windy. Occasionally choppy water grew choppier as boats streamed past the bridge shortly after 6 p.m., leaving waves in their wake.

There were power boats, yachts and a catamaran. There were at least three sailboats, including the Nanny Kay, which the Anderikas brought back to Baltimore after spending the winter in Florida. The couple was in Hampton, Virginia, making their way back up the Atlantic coast, when they heard the channel would be open on Tuesday. They decided to high-tail back to Baltimore, powering through three 10-hour days of travel in a row.

“Usually we would have taken four or five easy days,” said Chuck, “but all of a sudden it was, Tuesday you need to be here at 6.”

The Anderikas, who live in Pennsylvania but spend many of their summer weekends boating around Baltimore and the Eastern Shore, made it to the bridge by 1 p.m. on Tuesday, hours before the channel was slated to open to recreational traffic.

They weren’t the only ones to get there early. George Robertson, another Anchorage Marina customer, arrived around 3 p.m. on his Marine Trader trawler, Graceful. Robertson’s boat had been docked at Herrington Harbour in southern Anne Arundel County. He had been planning to bring it back to Baltimore the day of the collapse.

Passing through the channel, so close to the ruins of the bridge, was a surreal experience.

“I followed it everyday online,” Robertson said of the collapse, “but to see it at that point, it was worse than I thought. I can’t believe it came down so easy.”

“It was devastating,” said JoAnn Anderika. The trip to the bridge from Solomons Island was an unnervingly quiet one, absent the ship traffic that would normally be traveling to and from the port.

At the bridge the Anderikas found a busier scene. Boaters lined up their vessels as they waited to enter the channel. Once on the other side, the line became a hodgepodge, with boats racing toward a long-awaited homecoming.

Easton watched for boats he recognized as they passed through. He waved as Robertson’s trawler approached: “Hey George! Welcome home.”

With 547 slips, Anchorage Marina is the largest in the city. Robertson said he knew of four boats returning through the alternate channel Tuesday evening. He planned to meet with the Coast Guard Wednesday to share feedback on the first passage for recreational vessels.

Marinas in Baltimore have banded together to advocate for more frequent openings of the channel. Many boaters store their vehicles on land during the winter, often in Baltimore and Anne Arundel counties, and bring them back to the harbor in April.

Baltimore marinas are also a landing place for transient boaters traveling up and down the East Coast and to the Midwest. Easton said Anchorage Marina often hosts snowbirds headed north from Florida, as well as “Loopers,” who gather provisions in Baltimore before setting out for a trip through the Erie Canal, the Great Lakes, the Mississippi River and on to Florida.

“Of course, we won’t be able to accept those reservations” without access to the harbor, he said. “Everybody wants to know when it will open, and we have no ideas.”

The Army Corps of Engineers hopes to restore access to the port by the end of May . Sanett, the chief commercial officer at Oasis Marinas, said the Coast Guard has been sympathetic to the strain on marinas in the meantime. He estimated the local marina industry would lose $1 million a month under the current conditions, a figure that doesn’t include the ancillary effects of reduced traffic at waterfront bars, restaurants and shops.

“This is not just a bunch of wealthy people wanting to play with their yachts in Baltimore harbor,” Sanett said. “When the bridge came down, there was a huge impact.”

Oasis, a management company for some 50 marinas across the United States, operates about half of the approximately 2,300 slips in Baltimore, including those at Lighthouse Point in Canton, Harbor East Marina, Baltimore Inner Harbor Marina, Port Covington Marina, Baltimore Yacht Basin, The Crescent Marina and Living Classrooms in Fells Point.

Baltimore marinas stand to lose out on longer term business the longer it takes to restore access to the harbor. Sanett said he’s heard of other marinas asking stranded Baltimore boaters to sign annual contracts rather than allowing short-term storage and slip extensions.

That was the experience of Brian Ward, who hired a Coast Guard captain to pilot his yacht through the channel Tuesday and to a slip at Lighthouse Point. He stores the boat in Dundalk, east of the Key Bridge, and called marinas on the Chesapeake Bay to inquire about temporary options after the collapse.

“I was thinking I could rent a slip in a marina for maybe a month or two months, but I didn’t have any luck,” he said. “Their prices are really high, or they wanted a longer term commitment, so I didn’t pursue that anymore.”

Ward will have to cancel a planned trip to St. Michaels for a wine festival in late April because of uncertainty about whether he will be able to leave the harbor again in the near term. But the Frederick resident said he’s glad to have his boat back in Baltimore, where he enjoys spending weekends on the water.

“July and August are the heights of the season, and I’m just hoping they’ll get something worked out by then,” he said.

Baltimore marinas plan to reach out to city, state and federal elected officials to see what opportunities exist for financial relief.

“This is a COVID-like event for marinas, unfortunately,” Sanett said. “The big focus has been on the Port of Baltimore to date, and rightly so. There’s nothing yet for marina owners and other businesses.”

Sanett said Key Bridge salvage workers want to avoid rubberneckers and joy riders going to peer at the wreckage, but they recognized the implications of a closed harbor. Representatives for the Unified Command did not respond Wednesday to questions about future channel openings.

“They listened,” Sanett said. “We’re hopeful it will happen again.”

In the meantime, Robertson said he and his boat will be staying put, for now, after the trip back to Baltimore.

“I’m not going anywhere,” he said.

They bought Florida party destination 'Beer Can Island' for $63k, now it's selling for $14M: See photos

Pine Key, also known as Beer Island, was listed for $14.2 million in February, 2024.

After six months of tracking down the owner of a small Tampa Bay island, Russell Loomis bought the marooned 9 acres for $63,500 in December 2017 . Little did he know, it was an infamous party destination.

"I had no idea how popular this place was with the boating community," Loomis told USA TODAY in an interview. "Come early February, early March...every weekend or every nice weather day the island was completely surrounded by hundreds of boats and hundreds of people up on the island."

The spot goes by many names Pine Key and Paradise Island, but most popularly by Beer Can Island.

Loomis pooled money with some friends including Cole Weaver with the hopes of operating a floating tiki bar off its shores. But over the last six years, they've turned it into much more.

But now, they're closing in on a deal to pass the island and its visitors to the next owners.

"We're all entrepreneurs and we've done what we could do with the island," Weaver said, rattling off the weddings, concerts and food and beverage services they brought to the island. "It's just time for us to pass the torch to somebody who can come in and make the island bigger."

Beer Can Island has been a boat spot for seven generations

Weaver said when they first bought the island, he camped out there for 100 days straight helping out with the bar, socializing with the onslaught of visitors and growing a big "Cast Away" beard in the meantime.

"I just (would) meet interesting people all day, hang out, party with them all day and then sunset comes around and they disappear and I'm on an island all by myself walking around like, did that really happen?" Weaver said.

He remembers most fondly the variety of people the island attracted, including professional athletes, politicians and people whose families had been going there for up to seven generations.

Owners in talks with potential buyers

Loomis said they set up a membership system to allow people to purchase liquor from their bar. The memberships range from $9 a month to $499 for three years, and Loomis said they ended up with approximately 4,500 members. They closed Beer Can Island to the public in February of this year and listed it for $14.2 million.

Officials have raised concerns about emergency accessibility on the island, local outlets reported , and a young man drowned while visiting the island in 2023.

"Unfortunately, those things can happen anywhere," Loomis said, adding that the island is safer with the staff who were trained in providing aid than if it was left uninhabited with the flow of visitors. He also said the island has devolved into "lawlessness" since they stopped operating.

Loomis said they are exploring two different potential deals: one from a private buyer and another from someone who hopes to buy it on behalf of the community with $1,000 pledges from members going into an Escrow account.

"It's been a really fun project," Loomis said, but he also expressed he is ready to move onto his next endeavor.

Weaver said that some people are worried it will fall into the wrong hands and may not be available to the public in the future, but he hopes it be expanded and improved on.

"There's a lot of good potential still with the future of this place," Weaver said.
