Amazing!! These guys (and one woman) are rockstars. Had no idea how big these guys are and the following that loves them. I saw them in action at Pala casino and it was one of the best concerts I have witnessed. I have been to probably a hundred shows and these guys are up there with some the big name talent. Usually not a fan of band that cover other songs but these guys impressed the hell out of me. The have the voices and the moves to keep you rockin. If you're looking for a an awesome concert or event need a band to play your events then look no further than Yachty By Nature.
Captain Carl, Scotty McYachty, Courtney and Co. absolutely crushed it. We hired Yachty By Nature for a 50th birthday party and I have to say, having seen many tribute bands over the years, nothing compares to these guys. They are the perfect mix of incredible musicians, and the best entertainers. Captain Carl has such a knack for pulling out the best out of his audience and inviting them into the experience. And there's his dance moves... If you're for a real treat for your group or party to have a great time, look no further! All aboard!!
Saw them at Pala Casino Feb 10, 2023. Top notch play list, band sounded fantastic! Super fun, and super high energy! Will definitely see again.
Yachty By Nature is a bonafide SMOOTH Rock band! It was a true pleasure having them perform at our three hour event. People are still talking about how incredibly fun they were, and how talented they are at performing all of the best yacht rock tunes. They also threw in a few surprise dedications which meant a ton to the organizers. Booking and communicating with Captain Carl could not have been easier; they are 100% professionals and we absolutely recommend them for any event or private party. Worth every penny!
Yachty By Nature IS THE BEST!
Best yacht rock band by far. They have a great following. The crowd is always fun!
Yachty By Nature was absolutely amazing!!! I've seen them live before and this past weekend I was fortunate enough to have them play at my wedding. They made the night!!! They were fun, inclusive and professional. Captain Carl was responsive and very accommodating. I would hire them again in a heartbeat!
Yachty by Nature was AWESOME...They made our Kilroy Tenant Appreciation event a great success! Ana Wood
When you think of entertainment, think no further. Yachty by Nature is the past and the present. Follow them as they tour or book them for your next corporate party, personal event, or wedding. Captain Carl and the band is easy to communicate with and over delivered on our expectations!
These guys were a huge hit at our event! Fun, animated, on time, organized, easy to work with and the crowd loved them! Hope to hire them again. Would def recomment them for your event!
We had the pleasure of Yachty by Nature playing our wedding at Big Bear Lake. We had seen them rock out before and knew they had to be our entertainment at the reception. During the reception, the rain started to fall, and they continued to play their smooth jams! As the guests began to feed off the energy they were playing with, the open dance floor became packed with our guests. Captain Carl, Scotty McYachty and others even braved the elements of rain and hail and played their instruments on the dance floor. If Captain Carl and the boys didn't continue to play, our reception might not have been as memorable. Yachty by Nature probably saved our reception and helped create lasting memories! Of note, Captain Carl was extremely responsive when we were trying to book them and throughout the entire process. We couldn't have asked for a better band and would highly recommend them to anyone!

OUR SAILOR STORY
AM GOLD is a New York City based tribute band, performing the adult-contemporary hit songs from the late 1970’s through the mid 1980’s. Artists include Hall & Oates, Steely Dan, Huey Lewis, Christopher Cross, Lionel Richie and so many more! Most of this Southern-California based music has recently experienced a revival known to many as Yacht Rock. This smooth style of music has stood the test of time. Baby Come Back ! AM GOLD formed when NYC drummer, Dan Wintersteen threw a Yacht Rock party with musician friends for his 30th birthday. Yacht Rock was something that resonated with him – he grew up sailing with his father in Western New York and spent his high school years working at the local Yacht club:
“One thing I always noticed was that there was always this adult contemporary pop and jazz-rock music playing at the Yacht Club, so when I heard about Yacht Rock, I was immediately amused and inspired to do something fun with this.”
Dan got some of his musician friends together and performed various shows in the Greenwich Village of NYC. The parties were a huge success and it was apparent that there was demand for this kind of music.
Dan joined forces with NYC singer/saxophonist Jonny Hirsch, also raised by a family of sailors, and launched AM GOLD YACHT ROCK PARTY!

Yachtley Crew is Southern California’s first-class tribute to the best soft rock of the 70s and 80s.
What exactly is “yacht rock”?
DS: Yacht rock is a sub-category of the highly polished brand of soft rock that emanated from Southern California during the late ’70s and early ’80s. The term is meant to suggest the kind of smooth, mellow music that early yuppies likely enjoyed while sipping champagne and partying on their yachts. Somewhere along the way, it was also once referred to as “west coast rock”.
How did the band get started?
Philly Ocean – Lead vocals. Front man extraordinaire and Captain of this Yächtley Crëw. His voice has tamed the sea herself, leaving only jealous pirates in his wake.
David Buoy – Percussion, vocals and on stage instigator. Former major label recording artist, played in several other bands over his long career. Keep an eye out, or he may just make you walk the plank.
Tommy Buoy – Lead Guitar and vocals. Standing at 6 feet 5 inches, Tommy is the smoothest giant ever to don a captain’s hat. His baritone vocals and velvety guitar solos are as cool as the ocean breeze.
Baba Buoy – Bass guitar and vocals. Having participated in many successful touring acts throughout his historical music career,Baba’s bass playing is the wind that blows the Crew’s sails.
Sailor Hawkins – Drums and vocals. Sailor began his drumming career in 7th grade and shortly after graduating high school, he recorded and toured the U.S. and Europe for a number of successful major label bands. Sitting at the helm, his meticulous rhythms steer the Yachtley Crew from port to port.
Pauly Shores – Saxophone and vocals. Holding steady at the bow, mesmerizing audiences with acrobatic leaps from bar top to bar stool and across the stages of SoCal while soloing all along, Pauly’s style is indicative of some of the smoothest sax lines ever played during the 70s and 80s.
Stoney Shores – Keyboards and vocals. Lingering at the stern, he’ll tickle your fancy while tickling the keys as stage lights and the night stars twinkle in your eyes.

Column: Your endless summer is brought to you by yacht rock and Yachtley Crew
Yachtley Crew plays a sold-out show at the Music Box on Sept. 10

If you believe in calendars, summer is almost over. But if you believe in yacht rock, summer is never over.
“It’s kind of a made-up genre. But even if you don’t know what it is, if you hear it, you already get it,” said vocalist Philly Ocean (real name, Phillip Daniel) of the Los Angeles-based yacht-rock band Yachtley Crëw , which is playing a sold-out show at the Music Box in Little Italy on Sept. 10.
“It’s all of these easy-listening, feel-good tunes that go well with a piña colada on the deck of a yacht with the horizon off in the distance. Summer vibes are encapsulated in these songs.”
It will never be recognized by the Grammys, but yacht rock has become a pop-culturally accepted category for the semi-fizzy, sorta-jazzy soft-pop songs that ruled the charts in the late ‘70s and early ‘80s. Songs like Christopher Cross’ “Ride Like the Wind,” the Doobie Brothers’ “What a Fool Believes,” and every track on Steely Dan’s “Aja” album.
But before it became a streaming-radio format, a brunch inspiration and the genesis of tribute bands with names like Yachty by Nature and Monsters of Yacht, yacht rock was a web series.
Created in 2005 by actors J.D. Ryznar and Hunter Stair, “Yacht Rock” was a deliberately cheesy, yet totally appreciative “mockumentary” series following the fictional lives and careers of such future yacht-rock heroes as Hall & Oates, Kenny Loggins and the Michael McDonald-era Doobie Brothers.
Once the series made its way to YouTube, it tickled the fancies of industry types who realized that re-branding soft rock as yacht rock could give these oldies new, hipster-approved life. Satellite- and streaming-radio stations began adding yacht-rock channels, and by 2016, these smooth tunes had made their way to the musicians who formed Yachtley Crëw.
According to Yachtley lore, the two veteran Los Angeles musicians who would go by the names of Sailor Hawkins (drums) and Baba Buoy (bass) were hanging out in a hot tub with their wives (“Probably drinking,” Ocean surmised), when they heard a satellite-radio yacht-rock station and had an epiphany.
One year later, they had a band.
“They thought, ‘Wouldn’t it be great to have a band and play just this music?,’” Ocean said. “When we would go around pitching to venues, club owners would look at us sideways like, ‘You play Christopher Cross? Who is going to listen to that on a Friday night?’ We would always say, ‘Just give us a shot.’”
Four years and many Christopher Cross tunes later, Yachtley Crëw is playing sold-out shows in venues all over California and beyond; Ocean is singing to passionate crowds who know every word to Boz Scaggs’ “Lido Shuffle” and Jackson Browne’s “Somebody’s Baby”; and the genre started out as a goof has turned out to be a real happy thing.
And that is no joke.
“I think these songs have lasted because they are of the highest quality. The musicianship, the melodies, the lyrics, that is what has given them a long life and caused them to come back around,” Ocean said. “There is a zest for life that you can experience in every single one of these songs. They just make you feel good.”
Yachtley Crëw’s Sept. 10 show at the Music Box is sold out, but there are plenty of other ways to get your yacht-rock fix. Fire up the blender, crank up the tunes, and it will be smooth summer sailing all year long.
Streaming and satellite radio: Whether it’s Spotify’s 11-hour playlist or the stations curated by SiriusXM satellite radio and the LiveXLive streaming service, yacht rock’s non-stop happy hour is just a click away. Because they have a lot of digital space to fill, programmers have expanded the yacht universe to include such genre-questionable crew members as Van Morrison, Tommy Tutone and Eddie Money, but after a few umbrella drinks and a nap, it’s all good, matey.
Slate’s “Hit Parade” podcast: On his two-part “What a Fool Believes” episode, chart analyst and “Hit Parade” host Chris Molanphy gives the yacht-rock genre the thorough, musically astute analysis it deserves. We hear how its shiny roots stretch back to the legendary group of L.A. studio musicians known as the Wrecking Crew; how the sessions for Boz Scaggs’ “Silk Degrees” album are responsible for the existence of Toto; how Toto shaped Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” (It’s true!); and why the aforementioned “Aja” album set the itinerary for the stylish radio adventures that followed. Enlightenment, ahoy!
“Classic Albums: Steely Dan’s ‘Aja’”: Without this landmark 1977 album, there might be no yacht rock today. And without this 1999 episode of VH1’s essential “Classic Albums” series , we wouldn’t know the control-freaky lengths Steely Dan masterminds Walter Becker and Donald Fagen went to in their effort to achieve such glossy, effortless perfection. We also wouldn’t get to see guitarist Jay Graydon unfurl that classically casual “Peg” solo or watch Michael McDonald nailing those sweet, sweet layer-cake harmonies. You can stream it on IMDb TV with irritating, randomly placed commercials, or you can purchase the DVD and immerse yourself as yacht-rock nature intended. Don’t forget your snorkel.

S AN DIEGO — Eric Clapton, the only musician who has been inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame three times, will perform a Southern California mini-tour in October. These will be his only U.S. concert dates for the remainder of 2024.
Following a series of September concerts in Argentina, Brazil and Mexico, the English guitar legend and his band will kick off their three-city California visit with an Oct. 8 concert at Pechanga Arena San Diego. It will be followed by an Oct. 10 show at Acrisure Arena in Palm Springs and an Oct. 12 performance at the Hollywood Bowl. Ticket information appears below.
Clapton’s Oct. 8 concert will feature an opening set by fellow guitarist and singer Jimmie Vaughan. The show will mark Clapton’s first San Diego performance since a 2007 concert at what was then known as iPayOne Center and is now Pechanga Arena.
That 2007 concert was recorded for his Clapton’s double-album, “Live in San Diego.” Clapton’s bassist, then and now, is former San Diegan Nathan East.
“Live in San Diego” includes several songs featuring singer-songwriter J.J. Cale, who died in 2013. A longtime northern San Diego County resident, Cale was a major influence on Clapton, with whom he recorded the Grammy Award-winning 2006 album, “The Road to Escondido,” on which East is also featured.
Pechanga Arena opened in 1966 as the San Diego Sports Arena. Clapton’s 1968 concert at the same venue with Cream, his pioneering blues-rock power trio. The group’s nine-song performance is documented on the four-CD set, “Cream — Goodbye Tour Live 1968,” which was released in 2020.
Tickets for Clapton’s October concerts in San Diego, Los Angeles and Palm Springs go on sale Friday at 10 a.m. at axs.com. Ticket prices for the San Diego show range from $69.50 to $395.50, plus service fees. The Pechanga Arena box office does not open until 11 a.m. Friday, an hour after tickets go on sale online.

Yachty by Nature
Midwest Yacht Rock!
Midwest yacht rock.
With so much to report on the state of the Yacht, I really don’t know where to start. Before our next cruise to Midwest Yacht Rock, how about starting with the next big shows ? Yachty by Nature is coming to the heartland this Yacht Rocktober. In fact, we’ll be back there in the summer of 2019 for more fun. Additionally, we hope to add shows to our Midwest swing next June.
The band is continuing a smooth run of quality ALL LIVE yacht rock shows in Southern California to amazing crowds and traveling the U.S. Thus, we are the ONLY yacht rock band other than Yacht Rock Revue covering such a wide swath of territory. As you know, we’ve played North Carolina, Las Vegas, Arizona, Northern California and of course, Los Angeles, Orange County and San Diego. More importantly, we’re now sailing to the Midwest . Although we get a lot of calls from Wisconsin, we haven’t been there yet. However, Yachty by Nature’s very own guitarist, Ben Shreddin’ was recruited by the Docksiders to play a show with them on September 20. Yes, Ben flew out for their yachty show in Milwaukee and had a blast playing Midwest Yacht Rock for the very first time.
BEST OF Orange County…
In recent news, we’ve been nominated for OC Weekly’s Best of 2019. In fact, we are proud to be up for Best Live Cover Band in Orange County! Increasingly, we are stoked to be able to play this genre of smooth 70’s and 80’s music totally live. So, with great pleasure we hope that with your votes we will take the crown with the popular vote of the OC. Not a karaoke band with tracks, not a performance art, but a real LIVE yacht rock band playing their own instruments. THANK YOU in advance Orange County for knowing the difference. Thus, cross your fingers and hope that we got the votes to do this. And, thanks for pouring your votes in before the deadline in September, you are so precious to our success OC!!! Case in point, we’ll bring our BEST to the Midwest Yacht Rock shows shortly!

Before the Midwest Yacht Rock…
Looking back, let’s examine our course before we ship out for Midwest Yacht Rock .
Truthfully, we really had an outstanding turn out for Shannon’s Benefit fundraiser in August. Thank you so much again to all of our wonderful sponsors and everyone who pitched in. In fact, we really made a difference and raised about $14,000 for Shannon’s fight against breast cancer. Thank you Costello’s, Diageo, Daily’s RSM, Stance Socks, Arroyo Trabuco, Westin Long Beach, San Juan Creek Golf, Paul’s Pantry, El Cortez, Mission Viejo Country Club, Skip and Ashley, Shlee Art, Jaz Ramos, Disney Dave, Huntington Beach Bicycle Company, Jesse Murphy, Riptide Sushi, Popgun Rerun, Kimberly Frazier, AR Workshop in San Juan, Stressbusters, Massage Heights, Dayna Page and more!
Again, our show at Nood Beach opening for Snoop was a huge! This year has been full of amazing shows, lots of growth, new tunes, new fans and too much GREAT to mention. Each step forward we do so with a passion for live music and a love for our fans. Thanks for being our buoy on this journey and sailing the seas of smooth with us every step of the way. Continue to spread the word to our new Yachties out there and continue to celebrate LIVE smooth music with us. As I always say, we are climbing Mount Smootherest with you one small cruise at a time. Indeed what a pleasure cruise we are having and can’t wait to share more and exciting news ahead.
Cruise with Us
Also, let’s not forget about a summer of smooth at all those Concerts in the Park. Thanks for enjoying us in the park and a record setting 12 Park Shows!!! And how about our summer residency on the beach at Sea Legs. Not to mention, we had one of our cruisiest yet at Sea Legs with a fine bicycle ride with HBBC and Cruise With Us including School of Rock on the stage! We also rocked the Campus Jax again and just love playing to fun audiences there. We love getting yachty in the sand, on the coast, and most of all listening to those golden vocals of Scotty McYachty!
As outlined in our upcoming shows, there are some big ones. Make sure you don’t miss the boat at Whisky a Go Go and then who can resist our concert in Las Vegas. Topgolf is always great and we’ve only just begun. Specifically, October features our Halloween show and the Back Bay Bistro is one comfy dinner concert. Get those tickets and let’s get Yachty! In fact, there’s only one LIVE yacht rock show in Southern California on a regular basis, so hop aboard. As always, we’ll have some shows to be thankful for around Thanksgiving. Stay tuned to the calendar and we can’t wait to cruise with you and your yachty crew soon.
