SAILORdudes Gay Sailing Adventures

What to expect from your gay sailing holiday?

We care a lot about setting the right expectations, and find it important that you get everything out of your gay sailing holiday! To give you an idea what the life of a sailor dude on board of our yachts is all about, we provide detailed information about the following topics:

  • Your gay skipper

Daily program

  • Clothing (optional) & Luggage

Participation

  • Ready to join SAILORdudes?

Please read this carefully and feel free to contact us if any questions remain. We are happy to hear from you!

Gay sailing skipper

Meet your skipper(s)...

Hi, my name is René. I am based in Holland and l-o-v-e sailing as well as sharing this fantastic way of spending a holiday with others. I have visited many great sailing areas on our planet with sailor dudes from all over the world. The pictures I took during those trips can be found on this site.

Besides the safety on board as a main priority at all times, I want you to enjoy your active gay sailing holiday as much as possible. Whether this is working on your tan from sunrise to sunset, picking up some sailing skills for becoming a true sailor dude, swimming, snorkeling, taking a stroll on a beach or in a village, catching fresh fish for the beach BBQ, it is up to you!

For most organised group cruises I will be your skipper. For tailor-made adventures that request a (naturist) gay skipper and bigger group adventures, I also work together with other skippers that sail for SAILORdudes. You find some of them on the photos.

Sailing yacht layout

Your floating home and bedroom

The sailing yacht will be our (non-smoking) home for the duration of the trip, and is fully equipped for a comfortable stay on board. Although we should be cautious with water and electricity (we don't have permanent 110/220V on board), you will generally find everything you need: the cabins with beds nd closets, a kitchen with a stove and fridge, toilets, showers and a saloon area. We usually take showers on the stern of the yacht. It's just as easy and the view that comes with it is priceless!

The yacht size and number of berths on board varies. We usually have yachts accommodating 8 to 10 persons for organised group cruises. Cabins vary in size , sleep two persons each and either have a double or bunk beds. Beds will probably be smaller than you are used to at home. Also, most yachts do not have air conditioning unless specifically mentioned. Cabin types:

  • Bunk : these have two bunk beds for one person each. Pro: more privacy (without someone directly next to you). Con: smaller cabin/bed.
  • Medium double : situated at the front with a double bed. Pro: less noisy under certain weather circumstances. Con: smaller bed (good for couples or wannabe couples though :-)).
  • Large double : situated at the back with a double bed. Pro: bigger bed. Con: more noisy under certain weather circumstances and direcly under the cockpit/outside area where people are stitting and talking.

You can indicate your cabin preference in your booking. If you want a guaranteed cabin type, please indicate so clearly in the booking. Note that early bookers usually get to choose their preferred cabin first. The images on the left give you an idea of the yacht interior and bunk and larger double cabin types but vary depending on the yacht.

Gay nude sailing program

Swim, sunbathe, sail and relax ...

Your skipper will prepare the navigation to the next bay or village in the morning while the group organises breakfast. After breakfast, there will be a short briefing about expected weather conditions, the route to our next destination, suggested lunch/swim stops on our way and the expected sailing time. When that's done, the yacht should be prepared for leaving and off we go! In the evenings we may end up swimming under the moonlight, chatting in the cockpit or near a beach fire or partying on deck and dancing under the stars! Suggestions by the group about the program are always welcome. The skipper, however, may exercise a veto when it comes to safety or route planning issues. Weather is also an important fact and may give reason to alter the planned route.

The very first day of our adventure is used to arrange provisioning by the group, unpack your bags and organise your cabin. We also have a welcome drink with your fellow sailor dudes and do a briefing about safety and some other housekeeping stuff. Our departure from port is usually the day after embarkation. The evening before disembarkation we will return into port. If you consider joining a cruise, check the detailed information provided on the sailing cruises page.

Clothing...

Gay nude clothing optional sailing

... is optional & Luggage

Being on our own yacht offers a lot of privacy so you can feel free to either work on your tan lines or be nude and getting rid of them. All of our cruises are clothing optional (where appropriate). Some trips are specific gay nude sailing cruises for those that are into naturism and like to stay naked on the sailing yacht as much as possible.

And traveling without (too many) clothes may help, because in any case you should leave your big hard-case Samsonites at home. Storage space on yachts is limited and life on board does not need to be as glamorous as on land 😉 (right ?). Best is to pack light and bring a soft bag that can be flattened or folded. Recommended/suggested items to bring besides the usual clothes (including something warm for an occasional chilly evening) are:

  • Sunglasses, hat, wind/rain-proof jacket
  • Closed toe shoes (without black/dark soles since they leave stains on the deck) and water shoes
  • Sailing gloves -if you have them- to protect your fingers when assisting the skipper. Limited pairs of gloves are on board
  • Snorkeling equipment (a set may also be on board), beach towel
  • Toiletries including shower gel/shampoo and insect repellent
  • Tea towels and dish brush (there are usually not provided on board)
  • Sun protection (bring lots, also a higher SPF than usual is recommended due to water reflection and preferably no spray)
  • (waterproof) camera
  • Ear plugs and any sea sickness medication if you think you may need it

Bed linen and a bath towel (no beach towel) is usually provided unless indicated otherwise in the final information that you receive shortly before departure.

Gay sailing expenses fruit salad

Additional expenses besides the yacht

The listed prices already include all costs directly related to the yacht rental, and we do not charge booking fees. On top of that you should expect some additional expenses related to the trip (also applicable to tailor-made adventures). Such expenses are shared by the group and paid from a common wallet that is managed by one person in the group. It is common practice that the skipper is excluded from contributing to the common wallet.

 Meals | Drinks

For meals on board we depend on local availability of groceries. Breakfast is usually done on board in a continental buffet style. Lunch as well (like pasta, a salad or sandwiches), although it may sometimes be an option to go on shore. Dinner can be prepared on board while in a bay, or -if the group prefers- we have dinner in a nearby restaurant where possible. Because of the variety of options, preferences and local prices it is hard to give an exact estimate of costs and we recommend to inform yourself about local price levels. In general, however, you should roughly expect about 75-100 euro per week for on board breakfast, lunch and general groceries (dudes, this excludes champagne breakfasts! 😉 ) and about 5 euro per person/day for onboard dinners. These estimates EXclude alcoholic beverages, so that comes on top depending on preference/consumption.

Harbour | Mooring fees

Cost differ highly per sailing area. There are usually no to very low fees in Greece but they can be anywhere between 20 and 80 euros per night in Croatia. Bays are generally free of charge but if we make use of so-called mooring buoys, there may be a fee (20-30 USD in the Caribbean) or free of charge when we have dinner in the restaurant that owns the buoy. Check the Sailing areas page for more information about expected fees in specific areas.

 Fuel | Water

These costs are already included for organised group cruises. For tailor-made cruises, the fuel tank needs to be topped-up at the end of the holiday and the onboard water tanks must be filled as needed. A rough cost estimate is 75-150 EUR per week and per yacht, but varies depending on weather conditions and the type of yacht.

Gay sailing participation

A happy family

Even though we stay on a comfortable yacht, it is a limited space that we share with other -often international- dudes. The average age is usually 30's and 40's, some below and some above. We make an effort to match like-minded people and ages together on the same yacht, also due to cabin sharing with limited privacy. We mostly get sporty guys that are looking for an active gay sailing holiday. The language spoken on board is English. Besides sailing adventures, some -understandably- ask about possible sexual adventures on board. Anything can happen of course, as on any holiday where people are in a happy mood. You would for sure not be the first to make new friendships and meet up with sailor dudes even long after the sailing cruise has ended. Everything else depends on if it's written in the stars 😉 The bottom line is that we want you to enjoy yourself as much as possible and that no-one is offended.

To make sure we keep cruising around as a happy family throughout the adventure, there are a couple of tasks where your participation is requested (also applicable to tailor-made adventures unless a cook and/or host is part of the crew):

  • Provisioning on the first day and additional shopping during the trip
  • Organising meals on board
  • Cleaning up/dish-washing after meals

The skipper will help you organising on board tasks if needed but is in general busy with navigation, preparation and keeping the boat exterior tidy. After arriving at the overnight stop, the skipper is therefore in general off duty.

You = SAILOR dude?

Gay sailing group Kos

That would be cool!

Sailor dudes should be sporty since you stay on a yacht that moves with the waves and makes you exercise all day. A free work-out for your six pack 😉 ! You must be able to swim and be flexible in terms of 'going with the flow' so we can get the best out of each day together. Sailing experience is not required and if you are eager to pick up some sailing skills, your gay skipper is more than happy to explain how it's done! If you are sensitive to seasickness you may want to consider an area where seas are predominantly gentle (ask us for advice). If you are only mildly sensitive to seasickness, it can often be managed in various ways if it happens to you and should not influence your holiday too much.

So, if all this sounds good it would be great to welcome you on board as a SAILOR dude!

Feel free contacting us in case of any remaining questions or doubts. Or go to our contact page to fill out the booking form, in case you have already decided to join one of our organised group sailing cruises. You will also find the tailor-made enquiry form on our contact page, if you want us to arrange something for your own party.

Below Deck Stars Who Are Part Of The LGBTQIA Community

Izzy Wouters smiles next to sign

For the unacquainted, "Below Deck" is a reality show on Bravo, and has been on the air since 2013. It follows the exploits of a yacht crew as they navigate life while sailing the seven seas, per TV Insider . The crew was originally led by Captain Lee Rosbach; though he's taken a break from the show, Captain Lee addressed his "Below Deck" future in an exclusive interview with The List, hinting at a possible return.

From "The Real World: New York" showcasing one of the first out gay people on TV, to "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy's" whole existence, reality TV has continuously broken ground in terms of LGBTQ+ representation. "Below Deck" is no exception, with several out and proud crew members. David Bradberry first paved the way back in season one, when he came out as gay to his crewmates, and Captain Sandy Yawn, leader of the "Below Deck Mediterranean" crew, doesn't discriminate when it comes to love, openly dating both men and women. Cast members like these two set the precedent for LGBTQ+ acceptance on "Below Deck," and plenty of yachties have come out since then.

Tyler Walker, who joined the crew in season 10, broke barriers when he came out on camera, saying in a confessional, "My sexuality is fluid...moving into yachting, I could just explore myself. It's been amazing.". Just two seasons prior, Izzy Wouters, out and proud lesbian, graced our screens. She came out as a lesbian in 2020, though her journey took place off-camera. Both stars admitted to facing difficulty in their coming out processes because of their reality TV star status.

Izzy Wouters came out on Instagram

The previously untold truth about Izzy Wouters is now out in the open, and we couldn't be happier for her. According to People , she decided to come out in an Instagram post, rather than on camera, though the post has since been deleted. Though she's proud of her decision, she nearly didn't come out. In an interview with E! News , Wouters shared her fear of being called "attention seeking" in the wake of her Instagram post. Luckily, she's received an outpouring of support: "People now in my community...reach out to me and chat to me...it's been really fun."

Since coming out, she has not been in any committed, public-facing relationships. Though she told E! News that she was exploring her options via online dating apps, she hasn't gone any further than that. She admitted to being emotionally sensitive and needing to toughen up after "Below Deck" thrust her into the spotlight, so it's not a stretch to assume that she'd want to keep any potential relationships private.

Tyler Walker's mother is still coming to terms with her son's sexuality

Tyler Walker was 24 years old when he joined the crew of the St. Davis . Hailing from a small town in South Africa, yachting gave him the outlet he needed to explore the world and his sexuality. On " Watch What Happens: Live " with Andy Cohen, Walker said that he grew up primarily among straight people, and had no LGBTQ+ role models, adding an extra layer of difficulty. He opened up about the process to E! News in an exclusive interview, admitting that the process was less than ideal, especially when it came to his conservative mother, who had trouble understanding Walker's perspective.

Thankfully, his sister has stuck by his side. As the very first person he came out to (even before he came out on TV), she has helped him navigate those tough conversations. Even though his mother still doesn't quite understand her son's sexual orientation, the two remain close. Walker said that they still speak every day and that her gradual willingness to hear his point of view has given him hope for the future.

Colin Snider

We had an amazing week with Pride Sailing Holidays! The trip was even better than expected mainly due to our incredible skipper and host who provided delicious meals, opportunities to help sail, swim stops in beautiful settings and excellent recommendations for activities and dining at every port. It was an unforgettable vacation and a unique experience that I would recommend to everyone.

Richard Holden

Back from a week with Jonny and Satya sailing from Dubrovnik to Split and had the best time! Jonny and Satya were really welcoming and made the boat feel like home for the week. They were really helpful with recommendations for things to do onshore as well as places to eat, which were always great! I’d definitely recommend Pride Sailing Holidays to other groups looking for a sailing adventure where the flag is literally flown from the top of the mast!!

Lars Kindem

The men on this sailing holiday were extraordinary. Everyone was friendly, fun, fresh and oh so easy to like! These are the best gay guys, kind and generous, and inclusive. I am already booking with them for another sailing holiday. My Captain, Tim Ball is brilliant, I learned a lot from him and he ran a fun and professional ship. I appreciated being asked to help and that made the trip much more rewarding. My fellow holiday makers are some of finest men I have ever met.

Gay Yacht Charter

Gay yacht charter is highly preferred by LGBT communities today. As a lesbian or gay couple, if you want to spend a sailing holiday with people from your own culture without being under pressure and stress, our gay friendly yacht charter service is for you. For your convenience, the crew of the boat is carefully selected during the gay-friendly boat tour, where all personal preferences are respected. By choosing our gay yacht charter service, you can enjoy both your freedom and the freedom of the deep blue sea.

LGBT Friendly Yacht Tour

Although gay friendly yacht charter service may seem discriminatory at first glance, it is preferred by many gay and lesbian couples. Although society is becoming more and more modern, people who do not respect homosexuality are still part of society. While homosexuals are generally tolerant of being judged, it’s sometimes unpleasant to be judged when it’s time to rest, especially during the holidays. That’s why we’re proud to offer all of our free LGBT gay-friendly yacht tours. We would also like to emphasize that as a 100% gay-friendly company, you can benefit from all our services. A fun holiday awaits you with the unique features of gay yacht yachts.

As Book2sailing.com, we are Turkey’s leader yacht and sailboat rental agency. We have hundreds of different yachts, yachts, sailboats and motor yachts. Our yachts are especially popular for summer holidays. Gulet yachts are traditionally made of wood and propelled by wind power and sails. Our yachts offer a very relaxing holiday with many comforts and technological infrastructure. Yacht yachts can be in various sizes from 2 cabins to 12 cabins. In this way, it is a type of boat that appeals to both private rentals and crowded groups. Having a sea vacation on large yachts and large decks is a very popular leisure activity.

Features of Gay-Friendly Charter Cruises

There are various services we offer in LGBT yacht charters, unlike others. The most important of these is to carefully select the person who will work on the yacht and make sure that he is gay-friendly. In this way, you can enjoy your holiday without any discomfort. In addition, we offer a variety of optional gay-friendly yacht charters.

The prices of gay friendly yacht charter services are not different from the prices of our other services. The price may vary slightly depending on the number of people. A flat fee is applied when sufficient number of passengers is reached. You can choose our gay yacht charter service with your group or join our regular tours. Various factors determine yacht charter prices. Depending on these factors, gay yacht charter prices may vary.

Crew cabins

Crew cabins are the the two small single cabins in the bow of the catamaran.

They are fine for sleeping, but that's all you can do. They have access from the deck through the window. Normally there is a side window as well for extra light and ventilation. You share one of the bathrooms with toilet and shower inside the catamaran and of course there is always an outside shower as well.

Most of the crew cabins have one or two small lockers and more storage under your bed. If you need more storage, we can always find some more space on board. They are basic spots. Good thing is, as a single, you don't need to share a cabin with split double bed or double bed with a stranger, and the crew cabins are 30% cheaper.

Screen Rant

Below deck: everything to know about guests barrie & tony.

Barrie and Tony Drewitt Barlow brought their relatives along on Below Deck Sailing Yacht,. The two charter guests are known for making LGBTQ+ history.

Barrie and Tony Drewitt Barlow are Below Deck Sailing Yacht charter guests that fans of the show want to learn more about. They have a fascinating background that impacted U.K. history. However, they also had awkward drama. Thanks to these contrasting elements, these guests were memorable additions to the series.

Episodes featuring the Below Deck season 2 stars showed a different sort of trouble in paradise. It turned out that kids could be very fussy eaters. Chef Natasha De Bourg, who said that she is often underestimated because she is pretty, had trouble serving the large family due to all the requests. This strained her relationship with chief stew Daisy Kelliher. It didn't help that Barrie had taken up with his daughter Saffron Drewitt Barlow's ex Scott, and welcomed another child into their relationship. In fact, his marriage with Tony broke up because he was having an affair with his daughter's ex. Saffron drew a line in the sand about Barrie and Scott kissing in front of her. Traveling on a ship with her family proved to be really awkward, especially since Scott was there as well.

Related: Below Deck Sailing Yacht: Natasha Explains Why Dominique Crenn Inspires Her As A Role Model

Barrie & Tony Were Fascinating Below Deck Sailing Yacht Guests

Barrie and Tony from the Below Deck franchise are a landmark couple. After a law was passed that legitimized LGBTQ+ marriage, they were the first pair of officially recognized gay dads in the United Kingdom. They have five children, and the future reality stars started their parenthood journey by having a set of twins who were conceived with a surrogate mother in Los Angeles. During that time period, gay men generally did not pursue this avenue, and adoption systems had ingrained biases against LGBTQ+ couples. Joining forces with a surrogate mother helped to set a precedent for other people who wanted to go the same route.

Below Deck Sailing Yacht's Tony & Barrie's Family Kept Growing

While the couple from Below Deck Sailing Yacht decided to sail through Croatia on the nautical reality series, they eventually stopped being romantic partners, but their separation was amicable. They maintain that their relationship became friendly, rather than romantic. The two chose to focus on being good parents. Barrie is with his daughter's ex, and Saffron has stated that she would rather not know details about their romance, as Barrie has no filter. Barrie has admitted that it's weird how he has fallen for someone half his age. Nevertheless, they're all maintaining relationships with one another.

Barrie and Scott's baby is named Valentina Willow Drewitt-Barlow, and she was born in October 2020. Tony had throat cancer in the early 2000s. Unfortunately, it returned in 2018. During his treatment, Tony fell for a nurse named Brent, who is significantly younger than him, and a very devoted partner. Part of the reason he signed on as a Below Deck Sailing Yacht charter guest is the fact that Tony wanted to spend every precious moment with his family, including his ex and children.

The two, along with their partners, needed to adjust to spending so much time together. Though they were still present in each other's lives, they did not want to be romantic partners. Barrie, who seemingly flirted with just about anyone, played a dangerous game. Tony was gracious, but it was unclear if his partner Scott was as patient with Barrie's personality. Barrie flirting with Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 2 crew member Jean-Luc Cerza Lanaux, right in front of Scott, may have reminded Scott of why Tony and Barrie ended their romantic relationship.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — A lawsuit that names Sean “Diddy” Combs as a co-defendant alleges that his son Christian “King” Combs sexually assaulted a woman working on a yacht chartered by his father.

The suit filed Thursday in Los Angeles Superior Court says Sean Combs created the circumstances that led to the assault and paid to cover it up afterward. It’s the latest in a series of lawsuits accusing the producer and music mogul of sexual misconduct, and it comes amid a federal sex trafficking investigation that led Homeland Security agents to raid his homes in Los Angeles and Miami last week.

Grace O'Marcaigh, who worked as a crew member and a bartender on the boat, says that in late December 2022, Christian Combs pressured her to drink tequila that she believes was spiked with other drugs. He groped her breasts and genitals and attempted to force her to perform oral sex, the suit alleges.

The Associated Press does not typically name people who say they have been sexually abused unless they come forward publicly, as O’Marcaigh has done. She also consented to being named through her attorneys.

Aaron Dyer, an attorney for Sean and Christian Combs, called the lawsuit “lewd and meritless.”

"We will be filing a motion to dismiss this outrageous claim," Dyer said in a statement.

Dyer called the investigation that brought last week's raids "nothing more than a witch hunt based on meritless accusations made in civil lawsuits.”

Sean Combs, who chartered the yacht throughout the holidays in 2022, “had full control of the staff and premises” and created circumstances where her assault was not only tolerated but encouraged.

O’Marcaigh, who was 25 at the time, said when Christian Combs, then 24, came aboard late one night, he appeared heavily intoxicated and began giving her inappropriate attention.

She said the two were in a music studio on board the ship, where producer Rodney Jones, who filed his own lawsuit in February, was told to be available around the clock for Sean Combs to work on his next album.

O’Marcaigh said in the suit that Christian Combs was insistent that she take shots of tequila, and she drank out of obligation.

The suit alleges he became increasingly aggressive with her, violently grabbing her arm as she tried to get out of the situation then groping her. The drinks made everything blurry, unusually quickly, the suit says.

Microphones in the studio, where Jones was told to capture everything, recorded their exchange, and the lawsuit includes a transcript where O’Marcaigh demands that Christian Combs stop touching her.

The suit alleges that he later continued the assault in the ship's movie theater, which was used as a spare sleeping area and where she was attempting to find a place to spend the night because the rooms were all taken, before another crew member appeared and he stopped.

O’Marcaigh told the yacht's captain about the assault the following morning, but she alleges that after Combs gave him a large amount of cash the same day, the captain failed to meaningfully investigate or take any action.

The suit says O'Marcaigh was eventually fired in retaliation and has since been unable to find work in the music industry where she had planned to build a career. It says since 2022, she has suffered severe emotional trauma.

The lawsuit seeks damages to be determined at trial.

Christian Combs is also a musical artist whose song “Can’t Stop Won’t Stop” with Kodak Black topped Billboard’s Mainstream R&B Hip-Hop charts in 2022. He was at his father's Los Angeles home during last week's searches, during which he and his brother were handcuffed but not arrested.

The producer Jones’ federal lawsuit, filed in February by Tyrone Blackburn, the same attorney as O’Marcaigh's suit, includes allegations that Sean Combs coerced him to solicit prostitutes and pressured him to have sex with them.

Dyer's statement said the newest lawsuit is “filled with the same kind of manufactured lies and irrelevant facts we’ve come to expect from Blackburn.”

He pointed out that U.S. District Judge Denise L. Cote criticized Blackburn in a separate lawsuit on Wednesday and referred him to a disciplinary committee for a “pattern of behavior" where he “improperly files cases in federal court to garner media attention, embarrass defendants with salacious allegations, and pressure defendants to settle quickly.”

Blackburn responded in an email that “a referral is not a sanction” and the statement from Combs' lawyer was an attempt to “deflect and distract.”

“Christian Combs sexually assaulted Ms. O’Marcaigh, and we have it on tape," Blackburn said.

Several lawsuits have brought public scrutiny to the music and business mogul, beginning with a November suit from his former protege and girlfriend, the R&B singer Cassie , which alleged years of sexual abuse, including rape. It was settled the following day .

Combs and his attorneys have denied all of the lawsuits' allegations.

Combs, a three-time Grammy winner and the founder of Bad Boy Records, is among the most influential hip-hop producers and executives of the past three decades. He turned his hip-hop empire into a broader business empire that includes private-label spirits , fashion, and a TV network .

Jennifer Hudson shocked a gay diver when she helped him meet his hero on national TV

Ryan Dafforn and Ford McLiney met through Outsports, with each of them sharing their coming-out stories as gay athletes. JHud finally brought them together

gay yacht crew

Jennifer Hudson and her producers knew a good gay athlete story when they saw it on Outsports.

Former college diver Ford McLiney , who is now coaching, wrote his coming-out story for Outsports just last month. In that story he talked about his struggles and triumphs.

He also mentioned the impact another Outsports story had on him.

Ryan Dafforn, then a swimmer at Purdue University, wrote his coming-out story for us in 2013 . That year, Dafforn was one of 77 LGBTQ athletes who came out publicly . Today that annual number is so large, it’s not trackable.

Get off the sidelines and into the game Our weekly playbook is packed with everything from locker room chatter to pressing LGBTQ sports issues. Weekender * Weekly Newsletter * Promotions and Partner Emails * Sign Up

Reading Dafforn’s story, and then connecting with the swimmer and coach, online helped McLiney in his own coming-out journey in diving. As Outsports’ motto says, “Courage Is Contagious.”

McLiney talked about that with JHud.

“Ryan’s story was a saving grace in a dark time,” he said. “Ryan was able to be the friend to me I needed when I was in a dark place. Ryan taught me to be authentic to myself.”

It was all part of Dafforn’s hopes when he shared his story publicly over a decade ago.

“I want to help create an environment, especially in athletics, where people don’t have to live in fear,” Dafforn wrote at the time .

As McLiney now lives his life openly, hoping to help others the way Dafforn helped him, a producer from The Jennifer Hudson Show saw his story on Outsports and reached out.

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Ford McLiney (@mcliney)

Featuring McLiney’s story on the show wasn’t the only part of the plan. They wanted to make the experience unique for not just McLiney, but also his athlete-hero, Dafforn.

The first-time meeting of the two men was magic.

Related College coach and former Purdue swimmer Ryan Dafforn on coming out When Dafforn came out to his Boilermakers team his senior year, they were only mad he hadn't come out sooner By Ryan Dafforn | December 4, 2013 This gay former Texas A&M diver found strength and friendship from an Outsports article Ford McLiney found a lifeline when he read the story of gay Purdue swimmer Ryan Dafforn. By Ford McLiney | March 7, 2024

After some long-awaited hugs, Hudson chatted with the guys.

“It takes a lot of courage to go on that journey of self-discovery,” Dafforn said. “It goes on on your own at first, for LGBTQ people. So to do that on your own, and then have the courage to reach out to someone, in his case a stranger, is incredibly courageous. A lot of LGBTQ people demonstrate that courage of self discovery and finding their support systems.”

Hudson also surprised McLiney with $10,000 from Denny’s to help support LGBTQ athletes.

It’s great to see these two gay athletes helping one another, and helping others as well. We hope Hudson and other shows like hers will continue to elevate the stories of gay, lesbian, bi and trans athletes like them.
