PRESTIGE M8 KEY FEATURES

Prestige M48 - TMG Yachts

  • Inside the M8, the vast 110 m2 main deck is laid out on a single level with extra wide side decks directly connecting to the central main deck via two side doors, enabling open, fluid movement on board.
  • The high quality of finish and design is evident in the high-ceilinged cabin with its floor-to-ceiling windows with 360-degree ocean views, providing a feeling of spaciousness and flooding the cabin with natural light.
  • You can choose two different configurations for the galley: U-shaped on the starboard side of the main deck or aft in the starboard hull. The modular saloon and dining room are nearly 50 m2 and include an interior staircase that provides access to the flybridge.
  • Below the deck, you can choose either 4 or 5 cabins, each with their private head. The spacious 30 m2 owner’s cabin spans the full beam of the boat and feels like a private apartment. It boasts a bathroom on the port side, a lounge on the starboard side and a large central bed.
  • There are three other spacious double guest staterooms, including a VIP suite on the port side.

Prestige M48 - TMG Yachts

  • Three large outdoor living spaces have modular furniture and include a large 32 m2 cockpit with access to the flybridge, a large foredeck that includes a saloon for 8 people and a huge sunbathing area, as well as a 50 m2 flybridge, with double seat helm station and table with eight armchairs.
  • The incredible 4.2-metre wide hydraulic bathing platform can be left in a high position to extend the cockpit into a terrace, extending the two aft transoms, seamlessly lowered to transform into a beach club, with immersed steps that provide access to the bathing area or lowered underwater to launch a tender.
  • There’s plenty of room in the vast storage locker to store all of your equipment and water toys, and toilets are accessible from the outside making it easier to move around on board.

Prestige M48 - TMG Yachts

PERFORMANCE

  • Onboard systems are optimised to reduce energy consumption by an incredible 50%. The M8’s optional Silent Boat Mode allows for zero emissions at anchor, thanks to a large area of solar panels and a lithium battery bank, so you can spend the night aboard without having to run the generator.
  • At cruising speeds, the M8 has very low fuel consumption, with the twin 600 HP Volvo D8s requiring only 20 litres per hour at 8 knots. However, they can also propel the M8 catamaran up to a maximum speed of 20 knots.
  • Just like her sister ship, the M48, the twin hulls of the M8 also deliver smooth catamaran cruising, regardless of the speed and excellent seakeeping.
  • With joystick control and V-drive transmission, the Volvo engines provide thrust and perform magnificently well when cruising or docking.
  • Docking is also easier thanks to its reduced swinging arc, and as a narrower catamaran, it is easier to find a home.
  • Like all PRESTIGE yachts, the M8 features SEANAPPS technology, which enables you to monitor your yacht in real-time, plan and schedule maintenance services and consult the maintenance log, all through a dedicated mobile application.

Prestige Yachts M8 Review

  • By Victor Tan
  • November 17, 2023

Prestige Yachts M8

How fitting it was that Prestige Yachts introduced its new M-Line flagship, the M8, at Portopiccolo, a picturesque yachting village outside Trieste, Italy. Formerly a quarry, the cliff-side area had been chiseled into a clean site rife with eye-catching vistas, much like the French builder’s 65-foot power catamaran and its nearly 3,000 square feet of usable real estate.

Take, for starters, the M8’s 344-square-foot cockpit. Apart from flybridge-bound stairs to port and a wet bar to starboard, this space (as well as most of the yacht’s living areas) is an open deck with modular furniture. This setup allows owners to choose how they spend their time, whether watching sunsets on the hook or relaxing underway. Aboard Hull No. 1, which will debut at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show this month, there were four movable square-shaped sofas and two accompanying side tables.

Prestige Yachts M8

Aft-deck space is further enhanced by the M8’s versatile swim platform (14 feet, 5 inches by 4 feet, 11 inches) that Prestige describes as a “balcony on the sea.” When it wasn’t overlooking the smooth waters of the Adriatic Sea, the 1,102-pound-capacity platform lowered into swimming-pool mode at the push of a button, allowing access to the garage, dinghies and water toys.

The M8’s modular-furniture concept continues in the salon, where there is 6-foot-6-inch headroom, and on the flybridge. Between both spaces, the only fixed furniture is the 538-square-foot flybridge’s three-person sun pad to starboard, abaft the staircase leading to the salon. The flybridge also has a wet bar with a grill abaft a two-seat centerline helm station with two 22-inch multifunction displays. To port, there is a dining table with seating for eight; aft and to starboard, there is another lounging area with an L-shaped sofa to starboard and two-person aft-facing seating on centerline with room for two loose tables.

Prestige Yachts M8

As for this hull’s 511-square-foot salon, it had two free-standing chairs to starboard, a sofa on centerline and another to port. The salon connects to the cockpit via an opening centerline window with a service bar that has a wine chiller for 18 bottles, a sink and stowage. Forward and to port, there is a dining area with a table for six, and the galley is to starboard (a galley-down layout is also an option). Appliances are by Miele, including a three-burner cooktop, a microwave and a dishwasher, and there is a 132-gallon, triple-door fridge/freezer by Fisher & Paykel. This M8 also has the optional Surround View system by Garmin to make maneuvering in tight spaces easier; its console is nestled between the galley and centerline stairs leading to the owner’s stateroom. Owners can also opt for a lower helm station with a pedestal seat for all-weather cruising.

The 323-square-foot foredeck lounge is where the M8 diverts from its free-standing-furniture style the most. A sun pad consumes nearly the entire width of this space. Down two steps and forward, there is forward-facing straight-line seating on centerline across from an aft-facing C-shaped settee.

Prestige Yachts M8

Accommodations can include four or five staterooms, with options for a VIP suite that consumes the portside hull and the galley down in the starboard hull. The 323-square-foot master stateroom is forward and nearly spans the yacht’s 29-foot beam, with its athwartship berth across from a console with a rising TV. There’s also a head with his-and-hers sinks to port, and a customizable space to starboard for a gym, a lounge, a gaming area or whatever else the owner wants.

Power for the M8 is twin 600 hp Volvo Penta D8 diesels. With the throttle all the way to the pins, I observed a 20.5-knot top hop as the diesels burned a combined 63.4 gallons per hour at 2,900 rpm. At 7.7 knots, reported range is 1,583 nautical miles; at 17 knots, it’s reportedly 350 nm. Turning the M8 felt smooth, running like it was on rails, and the wheel was real-time responsive to input.

Prestige Yachts M8

The Prestige Yachts M8 is worth a look for power cat enthusiasts seeking adaptability, customization and a notable master stateroom that’s akin to one inside a small apartment. This new flagship has plenty of potential to be a desirable home on the water.

Luxurious Furnishings

The M8’s furniture is provided by four brands: Reflex Angelo, Pininfarina, Roda and Foglizzo. Regardless of where I decided to lounge while on board, there was always a place to get comfortable and take in the views.

Prestige Yachts M8

Access Anywhere

In addition to two stairways leading to the flybridge (one in the cockpit, one in the salon), the Prestige M8 has two side-deck doors. One is forward and to port, and the other is aft and to starboard. A portside day head is accessible from the side deck.

Sun-Powered Anchorage

Hull No. 2 of the M8, which debuted at the Cannes Yachting Festival last month, has the optional “Silent Mode” package: 10 lithium batteries powered by 258 square feet of solar panels, which should allow two hours of silent operation sans generators and with zero emissions.

M8: On board Prestige Yachts' first catamaran that offers space in spades

Katia Damborsky steps on board Prestige Yachts’ newest 19.8-metre catamaran – and finds a laid-back thoroughbred...

The multihull market is booming – or so we keep being told – but it’s not often you see a conventional sport boat builder re-evaluate its decades-old business model and put a second hull on a new model. Actually, that may be underselling Prestige Yachts a bit, because the M8 is so thoughtfully designed you’d swear it was a pedigree catamaran builder.

The design team went into the preliminary sketches with a motto in mind. “The king of the boat is always the owner,” says Camillo Garroni of Garroni Design, which has long collaborated with Prestige’s parent group Beneteau Group. He looks at the boat he designed as a luxury toy that should be able to comfortably compete with an owner’s bells-and-whistles shoreside residence. Translating that ethos into a slender 19.8-metre envelope is no easy feat, says Lionel Huetz of Marc Lombard Yacht Design Group , the French studio that completed the naval architecture of the boat. The studio is a multihull maestro, but still, it was a new feat for the shipyard and it came with plenty of challenges and “technical problems” that have been ironed out since the idea was first proposed in 2018.

Technical challenges aren’t surprising, considering how ambitious the yard has been with the M8. The overhead heights are between 198 and 200 centimetres throughout, including in the 35-square-metre owner’s cabin, which is laid out transversely in the very forward portion of the boat. The M8 sits high above the water – at just over two metres between the main deck and the waterline – and her beam is 8.8 metres, but she somehow doesn’t look boxy. “The proportions are balanced, we played a lot with the design of the side windows and the hull windows,” says Garroni, pointing to the flare of glass carving out the lower deck and the low line of glazing that runs along the deck above.

Perhaps most importantly, it’s clear that the M8 is a non-boater’s boat. For one thing, there’s no obvious helm station on the main deck. The space is entirely devoted to living, with a sprawling lounge greeting you as you walk in past a central wet bar by a sliding window. Light cascades in from all-encompassing glass, and a mix of temporary fixtures, like loose furniture from Pininfarina, and permanent ones, like a centralised storage unit, create a flow throughout the space. There is a dining area and a galley, while a staircase leading to the flybridge is mirrored by a similar-sized structure on the other side that could be mistaken for storage; but in fact, it’s a head, cleverly configured so it’s only accessible from the exterior deck.

Next to the galley, there is a flat surface that hides a control panel and you could easily install a helm seat here if you wanted to drive from inside. But it’s obvious the M8 is meant for the type of fair-weather cruising that necessitates a flybridge. From up there, the yacht’s twin Volvo D8-600 CV engines can be controlled to propel the M8 to speeds of up to 21 knots, pared back to a cruising speed of 17 knots.

The flybridge is impressive in its own right, with enough space to incorporate dining for eight, a small sofa, L-shaped seating and a sunpad. But for my money, the stand-out al fresco spot is the foredeck, where there is a sofa arrangement. “We were concerned it would be quite windy,” says Rosalie Le Gall, product manager at Prestige Yachts, but happily, it turns out their worries were unfounded. On a calm day in Trieste, the M8 glides over the water and sitting at the cool, concealed enclave at the very front of the boat feels serene.

At the back of the boat is an Opacmare transformer swim platform. Typically, it sits at the same level as the main deck, with stainless steel rods and rope acting as a bulwark. At the touch of a button, it can be lowered to water level to create a swim platform or disappear even lower to collect tenders and toys. Flattened tender cradles can pop out of the teak to support a boat of up to 500 kilograms.

The 19.8-metre M8 has been named to reflect its volumes, which Prestige Yachts claims are typical of a 24-metre, and to “carry a simple name on a best-in-class product”, says Le Gall. It is the first model in a new series of multihulls built by Prestige Yachts at its Monfalcone facility in eastern Italy, with a soon-to-be-revealed smaller iteration in the works as well. All of Prestige Yachts' models are built in Monfalcone, Italy and in South West France, which is the original home of the Beneteau Group.

The Franco-Italian crossover is a source of pride for Prestige Yachts. Garroni says he’s “Italian but with quite a French mind”. Erwin Bamps, vice president of Prestige Yachts, describes the blend as “integrating the savoir-fare of industrial yacht building in France and the heritage of building large yachts in Italy”. Case in point: It takes between 82 and 84 days to build one of the M8 units at the Italian site, with 50 people working on the line at any one time and an efficient production that sees each unit spend 21 days at each station.

The finished result is impressively versatile, with options to customise the accommodation layout and the position of the galley to include a galley-down option. The standard configuration is four cabins in the hulls including a VIP, with the aforementioned master on the main deck forward and two single crew berths even further forward in the hulls. But on the first hull, the fourth guest cabin has been scrapped, with the owner opting for a swish cinema suite instead. Evidently, the M8 has space in spades, and still some left over to spare.

Prestige M8 Review (2023 Edition)

The M8 power catamaran is the biggest and most expensive boat that Prestige has ever built. Is it the best? Read our in-depth review to find out

Prestige M8 Review (2023 Edition) image 1

Does size really matter? It does aboard a power catamaran. The M8 is 5ft shorter than Prestige's own 70ft (21.3m) F690 flybridge but it's almost twice as wide and that makes a difference.

Its deck spaces are sprawling, storage is outstanding, the saloon is huge and the owner's cabin is so large Prestige refers to it as the 'owner's apartment'. The name? It refers to Prestige's belief that the M8 has the same volume as an 80-90ft monohull. Big boat space means big boat pricing, though, with prices starting from €4.75 million ex VAT (correct at time of writing). Big money for a Beneteau Group product but is it justified?

Performance & Handling

Profile of Prestige M8

Around the Marina

The modern world of boat control has taken a lot of the fear out of handling big power cats at slow speeds. This used to be a hurdle for many buyers as the idea of manoeuvring something so wide around a tight marina wasn't all that appealing but thruster, joystick and camera technology have changed the game here. The M8 we tested - hull number one - was fitted with all three plus an extra joystick in the cockpit so whatever the type of mooring it was easy to find a place to control the boat from.

The cockpit joystick is a €14,000 option. Still, the joystick at the helm and twin proportional bow thrusters come as standard, a sensible move by Prestige that takes much of the intimidation out of threading the 30ft (9.1m) wide M8 around a marina. The freeboard is high but the superstructure isn't so she doesn't have much windage and the twin hulls keep the boat nicely planted on the spot and not overly affected by wind or tide.

You can't physically see the aft end of the boat from the flybridge helm, though you can with the cameras, so when mooring stern-to it makes sense to get as close to the berth as possible at the upper helm and then transfer to the cockpit station for the final few metres. There are a couple of options when it comes to the lower helm, which we'll cover later on.

Crewing on board the boat couldn't be easier, really, the side decks are large and well-protected with chunky guardrails all around. The thick, squared-off rails at the aft end of the decks look and feel great but they do make tying fenders a little more difficult - there are no such issues up front, though. There is plenty of space to stow fenders on deck, too, and boarding gates make accessing the boat from a high quay or fuel dock that bit easier. The freeboard is massive, though, and it's almost impossible to reach the amidships cleats from the pontoon, so most of the line handling will have to be done from on board the boat.

prestige-m8-running

There is only one engine option on offer and that's a pair of Volvo Penta D8 600hp motors connected to V-drive shafts. That's a relatively small amount of horsepower for such a large vessel but this is a boat designed to sit at 15 knots and slower so the idea of trying to hit anywhere near 30 knots isn't even in the equation. Frankly, from 6 knots to 21 knots the boat barely changes running angle at all, the only difference being how much breeze is pouring over your head.

It stays resolutely flat throughout the rev range and it's the same story when you dial in a bit of lock through the fly-by-wire steering. Those slender hulls offer plenty of grip and the M8 actually swings around surprisingly neatly for such a wide boat of well over 40 tonnes but it's not what you'd call a thrilling driving experience. But then it's not supposed to be. Set it at about 2,500rpm for roughly 15 knots and you're away. Here she'll plod along, sipping away at the 3,700-litre fuel capacity for 350nm between fills. Not earth-shattering range for this style of boat - to get the range over 1,000nm you'll need to be below 10 knots - but then this is no Nordhavn rival. It's a big leisure cat with spaces to be enjoyed at rest and on the move.

As you might expect of something this wide and heavy, it tracks perfectly straight and needs very little input from the helm to maintain a steady heading. We had no real chop to contend with during our trial but crossing wake head-on, those slim hulls slice through in blade-like fashion. Beam-on swell at slow speed did tend to provoke more of a rocking motion than you'd expect from a stabilised monohull but with water running under the hulls, the M8 is an immensely stable platform.

This builds into the way you can use the boat, too. The journey becomes as much of the experience as the destination because guests can move around the boat safely and enjoy all of its various living spaces on the move. The joy of trucking along at 15 knots rather than the late-20s of a planing boat is that you don't have to cling on when you move from space to space.

It's an easy boat to cruise aboard with very little to think about from the helm because the cruising speed doesn't really change the attitude of the boat, so whether you cruise at 8 knots or 15 knots the way the boat behaves doesn't vary. It's very, quiet too, and this plays a major part in what makes the M8 such a laid-back cruising machine.

Design & Build

Prestige M8 yacht from above

The extra length of the M8 gives her quite an aesthetic advantage, shall we say, over her smaller sibling the M48. Considering what a departure the boat is for Prestige, the design team and Camillo Garoni have done a laudable job of maintaining the family resemblance; it's instantly recognisable as a Prestige.

It's built at Beneteau Group Italia in Molfacone, originally tasked with constructing the now moth-balled Monte Carlo Yachts' boats. The upshot is, this facility and its workforce are experienced in building more expensive yachts that are finished to a higher standard than the smaller stuff in the Beneteau Group stable. You see this all over the M8 but most obviously in the gauge and quality of the stainless steel, the grade of components (Tecma toilets and Miele galley appliances, for example) and eye-catching furniture designed in conjunction with Pininfarina. It's an expensive boat so the look and feel have to be right and, in general, it is. Especially if you're comparing it to an 85ft monohull as Prestige so often does.

The Luxury Of Space

The interior design is by Valentina Militerno de Romedis and it sets a fresh tone for a Prestige product. The mood board was centred around Miami and there's a beach house feel throughout. Light timbers and flooring are punctuated with bright pops of light blue in the dining chairs, scatter cushions and piping on the furniture. It's cool, clean and feels very different to any other Prestige I've been on. The luxury of space can create a dilemma (what do you fill it with?) but they've struck a great mix on the M8. They haven't filled the interior with furniture for the sake of it and have left plenty of open space to make moving around the boat very easy.

Marc Lombard was responsible for naval architecture, a man with plenty of experience drawing cats and importantly, here, was designing a motor catamaran from the beginning. No amending an existing sailing cat design here and that has a positive effect on both the dynamics and the use of space on board. Beds are no longer poked into the corners of the hull, the modern power cat uses its interior space in a much more intelligent way.

One possibly unseen benefit of a multi-hull is the amount of space in, and access to, machinery spaces. The engines get an engine room to themselves so access to all sides is outstanding and there's so much headroom in the's that they can, as an option, build a floor and add another crew cabin here if requested. The finish was a little sloppy in darker corners but this is hull number one and there were still quite a few revisions that the yard wanted to make before final production.

Prestige M8 exterior

Interior Accommodation

Prestige M8 main deck

With a near 30ft beam it won't shock you to learn that the M8's saloon is vast. The designers always had a forward galley in mind, to make the most of the connection between interior and exterior but the way they've worked a bar into the threshold between the two spaces is absolutely brilliant. It both gives you a space to serve guests without having to go to the galley and sensibly divides the beam so you don't have to wrestle with two enormous sliding doors. It includes an electric window that drops down to create a bar that faces out to the cockpit.

Access points to the saloon are excellent. Two doors aft, a sliding door to starboard on the aft side and a side door to port adjacent to the dining table. With two staircases leading between the main deck and flybridge as well, moving around the boat couldn't be easier.

The saloon has a grown-up feel with its relaxed free-standing furniture and the exposed stainless steel structure that is so elegantly integrated into the space. The aft end of the saloon is given over entirely over to lounging space with a mix of sofas and armchairs and a TV that swings down from the ceiling and swivels on its mount to face different parts of the space. Forward, the dining table is to port with neatly integrated storage for crockery and glassware in the unit beneath the windscreen. The door out onto the port side deck is here allows a natural breeze to draw into this area, though it is on the opposite side of the deck to the lower helm (if specified).  The galley feels a touch on the small side for a boat of this size but there are some pleasing additions, like the pop-up section of the counter designed specifically to hold a coffee machine, high-end Miele cooking appliances and a truly enormous American-style fridge freezer. The dishwasher is on the small side to cope with all the washing up if the boat is full, however.

Between the galley and dining table, a large hatch in the floor lifts up to reveal a deep storage void complete with shelving and space for the washing machine and tumble dryer. Arguably not quite as convenient as having them located in one of the lobbies in the accommodation but having them centrally does mean it's easy for everyone on board to get to them. Whether the crew will appreciate sorting laundry in full view of guests in the middle of the saloon is another matter.

On that note, crew the cabins are located on the forepeaks of both hulls. It's the same idea as the M48 only much more spacious and generously equipped. The ladder access down into them isn't all that convenient but the space inside isn't too bad and they have their own ensuite bathrooms. It's worth pointing out that one crew cabin is standard and it's around €22,000 to add the other one. They certainly aren't as luxurious as the crew space on your average 85ft monohull but then this type of boat is less likely to run with crew.

Internal staircases have fallen out of fashion in the monohull market but this is another feature that Prestige could afford to include on the M8 because there is the space to do it without compromising living space. It winds up to the top deck from the starboard side and is accessed via an electric sliding hatch, which draws back to link the decks. It's great for transporting food from the galley to the flybridge and for allowing the skipper to quickly dash between the helms without having to detour through the cockpit.

The 'Owner's Apartment'

Describing a cabin as the 'Owner's Apartment' does, on the face of it, sound like frightening marketing speak but it does feel rather accurate once inside. They talk of the space of an 85-footer and this cabin has just the sort of room you would expect to find on a monohull that size. It sprawls luxuriously across both hulls and incorporates a king-size bed, lounge/study, walk-in wardrobe and a bathroom with separate shower and toilet cubicles.

It's lavish in its spaciousness and finished with panache. Again, the polished stainless structure makes an appearance but it's been cleverly used to separate the sleeping space from the lounge and you can specify a more solid partition if you'd rather have a private study or space for a cross-trainer to create a small gym.

The headroom is well over 6ft throughout and there is no dropping down into the hulls on either side as you might expect. The lounge and bathroom are set at the same level as the main part of the cabin so there are no steps - or any obstructions at all, in fact - to negotiate as you move around the accommodation.

The only real downside to the design is that there are no windows around the bed so the cabin relies quite heavily on the artificial lighting that is neatly integrated into the headlining. You don't feel as in touch with your surroundings because of the lack of windows but the space is undeniably impressive. What about guests, though?

prestige-m8-owners-cabin

Guest accommodation is contained within the M8's hulls and there's a good degree of flexibility in the arrangements. You can opt to have the galley on the lower deck, which gobbles up space for a cabin and leaves more seating in its place on the main deck. Maybe if you're going to run the boat with crew, this would be an appealing arrangement so they can prepare food and drinks out of sight of guests but most owners will no doubt want the galley on deck and part of the action.

There is also a five-cabin option which could work well if the boat is destined for charter but the most popular layout will likely be what we had on the test boat, four cabins including the extended VIP on the port side. Here, the VIP cabin occupies almost the entire length of the port hull and as well as a large double bed, walk-in wardrobe and private bathroom has a private lounge area with a pop-up TV. This gives those in the VIP their own little retreat away from other guests and creates a remarkably luxurious guest suite that could be considered a mini owner's cabin given its size and fit-out. In the five-cabin version, this cabin loses the seating area to create space for a cabin with a small double bed and a bunk.

In the opposite hull, there are two further guest cabins, one with a double bed and the other with a flexible arrangement which includes a large single/small double berth (depending on how you look at it) with a single bunk above. This would be a great cabin for kids but its flexible arrangement makes it a really handy cabin with a multitude of uses. It's nice that both of these cabins have their own bathrooms, too, so high levels of privacy are maintained.

There's less of an issue with natural light in these cabins than in the owner's suite because the beds all align with hull windows in a bid to make the most of the views out over the water when the boat is at anchor. It works well and the position of the beds with steps up either side means getting in and out of them is so much easier than if the beds are poked into the ends of the hulls.

Helm Station

prestige-m8-upper-helm

There is no lower helm option as standard on the M8 but you can add a control station (€42,000) or fully fledged lower helm (€53,000). The boat we tested had the former and though it's not somewhere you would really want to drive the boat from as it has no wheel and a basic dash layout but it has a joystick and throttles and an MFD so you can check charts and the boat's position using the cameras. It's handy to have somewhere within the saloon that you have control from but the upgrade to the proper lower helm would be more useful, especially if there's any chance you'll be doing long passages at night. Often the view is restricted from the lower helm because of the height of the cabin in front but Prestige has skillfully avoided this with the M8.

For berthing, most will head to the cockpit and use the (optional) third docking station and unless the weather's truly miserable you'll want to be a the upper helm, which can be fully enclosed along with the rest of the flybridge thanks to a set of optional covers.

It's a great helm position perfectly tuned to the way the boat cruises. The chairs are high-backed and supportive with a good amount of adjustment and the dash itself is upright and clearly laid out. The 22in Garmin MFDs are standard and they are superb. Beautifully clear and capable of displaying multiple data feeds without the screens becoming confusing. There is also a smaller Volvo Penta screen that is dedicated to engine information so you can always keep an eye on that.

The throttles are a stretch if you sit back in the seat but this is not a boat where you interact constantly with the engine controls, it's very much a set-and-sit type of arrangement. Crucially, it's a very comfortable place to munch the miles and blissfully quiet, too.

Prestige M8 swim platform

The cockpit is, of course, enormous but Prestige has designed this area really smartly to make the most of its prodigious width. The standout feature is the aft platform, which was designed exclusively by Opacmare for the M8 (that's the power of building boats in massive numbers). It's a brilliant bit of tech and, in a pleasant surprise, comes as standard. It has various functions. It sinks down into the water and with full-width integrated steps gives excellent access in and out for swimmers. It has a 500kg weight capacity so can launch/recover a decent tender and it also rises up to deck level to create a mezzanine terrace in line with the cockpit. The glass balustrade that runs across the transom opens up to complete the picture and create an Infiniti effect over the back deck. Completing the picture is the low-slung, comfy furniture which has the same sort of beach house feel as the seating inside the saloon.

Beneath the deck, there is a vast storage void that can be accessed via a deck hatch or a door in the transom, which doubles up as a bench when teamed with the platform. This huge space is destined for water toys such as inflated SUPs and it's also deep enough to swallow most of the boat's fenders.

There isn't a huge amount to report about the starboard deck, apart from its width, but the port side has a feature that is a first for me on a boat of this size: a day head that can only be accessed from the deck. It makes perfect sense. It means that those in wet swimming gear or covered in sun cream don't need to go into the boat to use the toilet. A great bit of innovation, just a shame it's a cost option.

Room To Breathe

Forward, the boat's width creates a natural living space that the designers have deftly moulded into a split sunbathing and seating area. The twin hulls allow a sunken moulding at the bow so you drop down between a pair of benches that put you right in the path of the breeze on a warm day. It's a lovely place to sit with the water swooshing past the slender hulls.

The flybridge comes as standard with an open aft end with the option to add lounge furniture for €34,000. That's a lot of money for some furniture but it finishes off this area really well. Prestige has, once again, filled the space sensibly with a great mix of dining and sunbathing space and a split central wet bar that allows you to hold court while lining up the drinks or flipping a burger or two.

The hard top comes as standard but a canvas sunroof is an option (€14,000), as is Silent Mode, a €120,000 option that adds solar panels and a larger battery bank that allows you to run the boat overnight with all services running and not fire the generator. It helps, of course, that the boat doesn't have to run a stabiliser on anchor but Prestige has made efficiency improvements elsewhere, like using a gas-powered air-con system rather than chilled water, which uses 1/3 less energy.

prestige-m8-flybridge

Value For Money

Value for money is a cornerstone of Beneteau Group's ethos but where does that sit when a product costs (correct at time of writing) €4,750,000 ex VAT? You can't judge it against a 70ft monohull because the space on offer here is just so much greater. The boat also has an impressive standard specification, a lesson learned from the Monte Carlo Yachts brand that at this level customers expect a certain amount of kit to come as standard.

A crew cabin comes as standard, the hard top, the hydraulic bathing platform, synthetic teak in the cockpit, air-conditioning, the joystick and twin bow thrusters, a 22kW generator, twin 22in MFDs at the flybridge helm and all of those high-end galley appliances such as the Miele cooking equipment and Fischer & Paykell double fridge.

Our Options & Pick

The cost options you might want to add to that would include lounge seating on the flybridge, the lower helm, a passerelle (for the Med), the BBQ grill on the flybridge, the day head, the cockpit joystick and the rearview camera, totalling around €190,000 of extras.

This sort of money pushes the M8 into yacht territory and the orbit of some big-hitting brands in both the monohull and multihull worlds. Buying the boat is one thing but due to the boat's width-to-length ratio, depending on where you keep it, there may be a premium pay for moorings as a resident and a visitor. That said, the boat is so well attuned to living on anchor that you may find the need to be in a marina isn't as acute as it would be on a similar-sized monohull.

prestige-m8-running

This is an impressive leap for Prestige in such a short space of time. A couple of years ago the brand had never built a multihull and now it has two in the stable including this impressive flagship. The beauty of the M8 is that it has multihull space with a look and feel of a production monohull. Creating this from the ground up as a power catamaran and not adapting an existing platform is what makes it such a successful piece of design. Yes, there are some rough edges that need addressing on hull number one, and no doubt they will be, but there is a lot to like here and this is a major line in the sand for Prestige as it looks to establish itself in a booming genre.

Reasons to Buy

  • Aft platform design
  • Flexible layout
  • Incredible owner's suite
  • Ease of control

Things to Consider

  • Cruising range isn't huge
  • On the pricey side
  • Compact crew accommodation

For what was once seen as a niche genre, the big power cat market is gaining momentum as is clear from the impressive list of rivals that the M8 faces.

Built on the French Atlantic coast, the Power 67 was an equal leap into the big league for Fountaine Pajot as the M8 is for Prestige. FP has an excellent reputation in building large sailing catamarans but expectations are different when building a motor cat of this size and price. Like the Prestige, it has a very flexible interior layout though it doesn't boast the full-beam owner's suite of the M8 and instead opts for an extended cabin in the starboard hull. It too is available with four or five cabins. The cabins may not be quite as impressive but the main deck has a real wow factor because you can access the foredeck directly from the saloon where, as an option, you can specify a hot tub for a slice of the superyacht life. It runs a pair of relatively small 480hp Volvo Penta engines but it's a light boat so the top speed is still just shy of 20 knots and it will cover over 1,000nm at 10 knots.

The Horizon PC68 is a more traditional power cat design from the highly experienced Tawainese shipyard. High-quality engineering and customisation come as standard with Horizon products, so even though the 68 doesn't have the layout flexibility of the M8 and isn't available with five cabins, there is still plenty of scope to make the boat your own. It's available with an open or enclosed flybridge deck and the latter is a full enclosure with an upper lounge and sun deck. It's a more reserved design both in style and features so it doesn't have the functionality of the M8 but it's a classy operator that bristles with quality touches. The main deck focuses on a large family kitchen - almost twice the size of the M8's - complete with a four-person breakfast bar. The owner's suite is forward in the main deck and has its bed positioned on the centre line with its ensuite down to port. Twin MAN i8 650hp engines should offer similar performance and range to the Prestige, though with almost twice the fuel capacity the Horizon's range should be superior.

The 60 Sunreef Power is slightly shorter than the M8 but, staggeringly, it's almost 2m wider and this translates to over 843 square feet of living space on board. The Polish yard has pushed to extremes when it comes to finding space on board this boat, to the extent that you can have it with four, five or six cabins. It's a slick and super modern design that looks bang up to date, though it doesn't have the warmth in its interior of the rivals above. The space is just mighty, though, and there are some big boat additions like the entrance out onto the foredeck from the saloon and the option to have a hot tub on the flybridge. Sunreef is open to customisation, too, and some boats have, for example, replaced a cabin with a fully custom gym. It's not just some floating beach club, though, the standard fuel capacity is 6,000 litres but you can boost that to 10,000 litres for true globetrotting range.

The Aquila 70 is a classy customer which, if you're changing from a high-end monohull, has the quality look and feel to match. It too has a flexible layout but its saloon layout has a real home-from-home luxury apartment feel to it. The enclosed flybridge with an aft deck doesn't have anywhere near the space of the M8's but having a fully protected, climate-controlled upper deck will suit some markets and cruising styles more than the Prestige's open fly. There isn't a five-cabin option but you can have four if you sacrifice the crew space and whichever arrangement you go for, the owner's suite is full-beam forward and it's a lovely space. Not single-level like the Prestige's but still a mega cabin for this length of boat. Its performance is more flexible than the M8's because with its twin 1,000hp Volvo Penta D13s it will hit 27 knots flat out and cruise 450nm at a 20-knot cruise. It's one of the most cohesive packages in the sector.

Prestige M8

PRESTIGE M8: the new flagship of the M-Line fleet

Minimal Logo

PRESTIGE, world leader in luxury motor yachts, launches its latest addition, the M8. Flagship of the M-Line multihull yacht range, Prestige M8 is distinguished by a unique configuration that affords the space and comfort equivalent to that of an 85-foot monohull yacht, targeting the needs of the most demanding owners. With the M8, PRESTIGE offers an unprecedented cruising experience, in perfect harmony with the sea, more respectful of the environment and with a reduced fuel consumption. The twin hulls ensure natural stability and excellent seaworthiness.

“ The M8, flagship of the M-Line by PRESTIGE, represents the quintessence of our savoir-faire in terms of design, elegance, and fit and finish. I would like to underscore the unique character of PRESTIGE, the only Franco-Italian yacht builder in the world, today, combining the French mastery of serial production and Italian heritage in large yacht construction” confirms E rwin Bamps, Vice President of PRESTIGE.

Prestige-M8-at-sea

Built at the Groupe Beneteau Italia shipyard in Monfalcone, the new M8 was masterfully designed by Garroni Design, the studio that crafted the identity of PRESTIGE from its beginnings, over 30 years ago. The result is a unique and distinctive multihull yacht with unparalleled surfaces and dimensions, and a hull which, designed from the start uniquely for a motor yacht, offers the upmost comfort with over 270 m2 of living space and spacious suites.

“ The new M8 represents a concentration of innovation. Her contemporary lines, high-performance hull design, and innovative layouts place this new model at the top of the multihull motor yacht category. The exterior lines have been designed to reveal a bold, distinctive personality. Here, there is no reference to the world of sailing catamarans, as so often is the case. Proportions are typical of a powerful, contemporary motor yacht. The M8 is a true villa on the sea. The layout, living spaces, ease of movement and safety on board have been designed to optimize the experience of the owners and their family, ” explains Camillo Garroni, designer of the M8.

PRESTIGE M8: smooth and fuel-efficient cruising

The new Prestige M8 is a multihull yacht designed for maximum comfort and well-being on board. Two hulls, rather than one, guarantee a smooth and linear cruising experience, ensure natural stability and perfect seaworthiness even in heavy seas. This multihull, equipped with twin Volvo D8 600HP engines, handles particularly well in maneuvers at port and enables guests to benefit from every living space in ideal conditions. Cruising aboard the M8 is a unique and eco-friendly experience thanks to her extraordinary fuel efficiency: the yacht, in fact, consumes half as much fuel than a monohull with the same volume of living space. As an option, the Silent Boat Pack integrates a large surface area of solar panels and a substantial lithium battery bank.

Prestige-M8-exteriors

“ It is the team of Marc Lombard, world-renowned in the yachting world, who designed the hulls of the M8 ,” explains Rosalie Le Gall, Product Manager at PRESTIGE . “ The power catamaran will be certified in category A; the hulls are designed for passing smoothly through the waves at any speed, for up to 20 knots. The multihull configuration offers great stability at anchor and while under way. The M8 offers the space and luxury equivalent to that of an 85-foot monohull, with much greater comfort and connection with the sea” , continues Rosalie Le Gall – “She consumes half the fuel, due to her lighter, lesspowerful engines. The systems on board have also been optimized in order to reduce energy consumption by 50%. With this, we can operate the yacht at night and several hours during the day, using only the batteries, affording a gentler lifestyle for all on board”

Modular exterior and a Miami-inspired atmosphere

The M8 offers a Miami-inspired elegant and sophisticated atmosphere, with streamlined and contemporary living spaces: each detail is carefully studied for an uncompromised luxury experience. The priority is placed on the most rigorous quality standards and customization, offering a variety of interior versions with new materials and colours, and a new finish worthy of the largest yachts.

“With this new project, PRESTIGE has once again raised the bar. You can see it, feel it, in the experience on board – confirms Valentina Militerno de Romedis, Interior Decorator – A multihull is, by definition, a platform for meeting, for sharing, but it is also a place where the sky and sea meet and merge, and it is from this that we drew the inspiration for the Miami color palette and concept. This city, always turned toward the future, is the symbol of modernity. The ocean that borders it represents an open horizon, shared freely by the sky and the sea. It is this atmosphere that guided us in the selection of colors, of new materials and new fabrics”.

Outdoor spaces such as the main deck, 32-square-meter cockpit, and flybridge are designed to allow for free movement on board and, of course, for maximum relaxation: with a large 4.20-meter-wide moving platform that serves as a beach club, a large locker for storing equipment and water toys, and a full steering position on the flybridge, on which is also a large lounging area, the M8 is ideal for enjoying the sea in all its facets.

Dreamlike interiors immersed in luxury

PRESTIGE’s new M8 offers an unparalleled luxury experience not only in her exterior, but also, and perhaps most importantly, in her interior spaces. Every detail of the design has been taken care of, with special attention paid to the refinement and quality of the materials used, all of which are high-end and exceptionally refined. The living spaces are large and flooded with natural light, with a U-shaped galley and a modular salon that spans almost 50 m2. The master stateroom then is like a real private apartment reaching an unparalleled 30 m2 of luxury, which also distinguishes the three additional guest cabins, including a VIP suite.

interior

It can clearly be said that the M8 sets herself a no small goal of redefining standards of well-being on board, offering everyone the opportunity to share precious moments at sea by reconnecting with nature, reconnecting with it, themselves and others in a spacious, refined, light-filled environment: this is the Art de Vivre offered by the new M8.

Prestige M8 review: The Making of a Bestseller

catamaran m8

The Prestige M8 offers the space and luxury equivalent to that of an 85-foot monohull, with much greater comfort and connection with the sea

In early June, Prestige invited us to be among the first to test their new mode, the 19.82-meter long M8 – the largest catamaran they’ve built so far. With its tall hull, two rows of side windows and the master cabin placed in the bow between two hulls, M8 was designed as a power catamaran , and is not just a power version of a sailing catamaran.

Prestige M8 bow

Gently sloping, but sharp bows merge into a deck that covers the entire space between the two hulls. The superstructure is glazed, covered by a wide fly deck, adding a sporty, stylish touch to the profile. We step aboard via one of the two small platforms that also serve as stairs down, toward the hydraulic swimming platform. The three platforms can be joined into one large aft platform, while the central part – the hydraulic swimming platform – can be lifted and rotated to fit into the deck, or submerged to allow easy access for swimmers. This platform also serves as storage for tender.

The decks is wide and spacious, using almost the entire combined hull width. Aft, there is no fixed furniture, and the owner gets to choose both elements, layout and even makers. Wide and safe passages lead toward the bow, and the bow – several steps higher than the rest of the main deck – serves exclusively as a large, comfortable sundeck, with mattresses in front of the windshield and a sofa on the very bow. In the superstructure, there is the main salon, easily accessible via double glass doors, separated by a small bar.

On the left, there are the stairs leading to the fly deck. Inside, the salon is breezy and light, with 360-degree view, as there is almost no tall furniture. In look and feeling, it’s almost identical to the main deck outdoor salon, all the way to the free-standing furniture. On the left, there are the interior stairs leading to the fly deck, and on the right, a stylish stainless steel bar that doubles as handrail of the stairs leading below deck.

Prestige M8 interior

Forward in the salon, right under the windshield, on there right there is the galley with a semi-circular worktop and a fridge; on the left, the dining space, with a table seating six, and between them the stairs leading below deck. Right next to the stairs, a small cabinet hides an essential command console, with engine and autopilot commands and the GPS plotter.

Prestige M8 layout

The master cabin is wide and large, with a central double bed, a small sofa and a coffee table on the right, and a private bathroom on the left. The unit we tested had four cabins; the master, the VIP in the left hull (large bed, small private salon, small working space with a desk, private wardrobe) and two guest cabins in the right hull (one with a Pullman bed and one with a double bed; both with private bathrooms and showers).

catamaran m8

The model is also available with four cabins and the galley below deck in the right hull, or with five cabins. All versions have two crew cabins in the bows. The fly deck is as large as the salon – 50 square meters – also has almost no fixed furniture: only the command console and the two seats serving it, the grill bar behind the seats, and the small bar next to it are fixed.

On the fly deck, we found a large dining table seating eight, and two large and comfortable sofas aft. Most of the fly deck (except the very aft) is protected by a sport top with a central window which can also be covered by a soft cover.

In navigation, Prestige M8 displayed all the skill expected from a boat its size and style, proving to be extremely stable even with no stabilizers, and executing turns without any rolling. With two 600-hp Volvo Penta D8-600 engines, M8 is at its most efficient at 8knots, using only 21 liter of fuel per hour @1250 rpm, while at 14 knots and @2500 rpm fuel consumption rises to 168 l/h.

How fast is the Prestige M8?

catamaran m8

On our test we reached top speed of 21 knots (241 l/h). Although the model is almost 20 meters long, the Volvo Penta joystick and Garmin Surround View allowing for bird’s-eye view make it super easy to execute docking maneuvers.

Prestige M8 is in the very top of its segment, and we can see why that segment – power cats up to 20 meters in length – has been gaining popularity. This model has everything necessary to become its maker bestseller and the top model in the segment.

Prestige M8

Prestige Yachts M8

The popularity and desire for power catamarans continues to grow as boat owners looking for more space on board warm to the idea of being able to handle a yacht with a substantial beam. Prestige Yachts has clearly made a commitment to the M-line range which began with the M8's smaller sibling, the M48 .

The M8 has all of the best characteristics of a multihull yacht - the low fuel consumption (including a 350 nautical mile cruising range), incredible room on board, stability at anchor, endless storage compartments, and space to easily move around. To be clear, Prestige has not converted a sailing catamaran into a power cat design. The M8 is truly a power cat with all of the best attributes you associate with Prestige - a home away from home, on the ocean.

"When you step on board a Prestige M-line, it's like walking into someone's house," says Jay Hendrix, Vice President of SI Yachts. "There is so much space between each area of the boat and between the furniture. No one is cramped. The fit and finish is excellent. Prestige has done a remarkable job creating a comfortable boat that enhances your surroundings. The master suite is like 350 square feet!"

The shipyard describes the M8's abilities as "smooth, serene cruising" that is "respectful of the environment with reduced energy consumption" and promises to facilitate those "precious moments on the water."

For more information on the Prestige M8 or any Prestige model, please email us at [email protected] or contact our main office at 718-984-7676 .

Exterior Areas For Socializing

With a beam of nearly 30-feet, there is plenty of opportunity to create marvelous living areas outdoors that would normally by inconceivable on a monohull yacht. The layout and decor in the exterior social areas is reminiscent of a terrace overlooking the French Riviera, or could easily be a beach club in Miami. The colors are light, the furniture is contemporary, and it becomes easy to lose yourself in the lavishness in the moment.

The flybridge is the epicenter of the M8, a true villa raised high above the water with infinite views. Ascending the portside staircase leads to the aft deck of the flybridge which immediately freets you with ample seating room. Farthest aft, there is space for multiple sunloungers while several over-sized sofas (including one that resembles a sunpad) are found starboard. The wetbar, grill and 8-person dining table provide the al fresco dinner experience you seek. Forward is the upper helm station with complete navigational electronics and controls, with additional seating nearby.

The main deck is one extra-large, fluid area where movement from bow to stern is done with ease. The foredeck lounge area is truly a sunbather's paradise. Closest to the windshield is a massive sunpad that can fit multiple people on a flat surface so there's no laying at an angle. Moving forward and down two steps is another large seating area with two sofas facing each other. Both are large enough that they could easily double as more sunloungers.

Farthest aft is the hydraulic platform, however this is much more substantial than your normal swim platform. It is more than 13 feet wide, providing ample room to board a tender when lowered into the water or serve as a water-side beach club when chairs are added. Nearby, Prestige has placed a deep storage locker for water toys, Seabobs, paddleboards, and more.

Getting out of the sun while staying outdoors is easy with the cockpit seating area. Owners have the option of choosing a traditional cockpit table for the aft deck or using this space for loveseats and sofas. The flybridge overhang provides ample shade for you and your guests. There are two sliding cockpit doors that open to reveal the salon and integrate the main deck from inside and out.

Interior Seating & Accommodations

Light, space, and comfort are the notable characteristics of the Prestige M8's interior. Large windows line the salon, allowing sunlight to infiltrate every square inch of the salon. The interior space is so voluminous that it is being compared to traditional monohull yachts in the 85-foot range.

Owners building their own M8 will have a layout choice regarding the galley with two different configurations. The first 'galley-up' option puts the u-shaped kitchen on the starboard side of the main deck. For those wanting to be a part of the conversation in the salon, this is a popular option. If you're looking to place the M8 into charter or want the galley hidden, the second configuration places it below in the starboard side hull.

The decor, color palette, furniture, and windows all harmoniously complement your on-water experience with Prestige's clear commitment luxury and comfort. Again, the fit-and-finish of the M8 is comparable to the most distinguished luxury superyacht builders today.

Below the main deck in each hull are the cabins for the owners and guests. With the galley down layout is chosen, the M8 features four cabins including a full-beam master suite please forward on an elevated deck, complete with en suite bathroom. The other double-sized guest cabins also have en suite heads and take full advantage of the additional space provided by the large beam. With the galley up layout, an additional VIP cabin is created on the portside that features an additional seating area.

Power & Performance

As with any power catamaran, fuel efficiency is one of the driving purchase points for any potential owner and no engine manufacturer does this better than Volvo. Twin D8 600HP V-Drive engines power the M8 and the nearly 1,000 gallons in the fuel tank, when operated at an efficient speed, will provide a range of 350 nautical miles. The cruise speed of 15 knots is comfortable, but it opens up to 20 knots for those moments when you need to outrun weather. Even though this is a power catamaran, it still has the ability to get moving when you want it to.
