On-the-spot booking and payment is not possible. Advance booking is mandatory.

Morning and afternoon slots:  Book at least 2 to 5 days prior. Evening slots:  Book at least 5 to 7 days prior. Weekend slots:  Book at least 7 to 10 days prior.

You can also make a booking on the same day or 1 day prior.  It all depends on availability of the yacht you wish to book.  If at the time you decide to book, the yacht is available, you can pay and book it.

The total booking duration is 2 hours. In these 2 hours, the sailing duration is approx. 1 hour 30 minutes. So, 1 hour 30 minutes is the time you will spend on the booked yacht.

30 minutes are kept aside for travelling from the shore to the yacht and then after sailing, from the yacht back to the shore.

No. The minimum booking duration for sailing in Mumbai is 2 hours. The actual sailing time is approx. 1 hour 30 minutes.

This is the recommended time duration for a good sailing experience overall. Less than 1 hour 30 minutes feels incomplete and more than this feels a bit tiring.

On small sailboats and yachts, we usually do not recommend you to book for 3 or 4 hours as it may make you feel a little dizzy. 1 hour and 30 minutes of sailing time is just ideal for a good sailing experience. However, you can book for longer duration at an additional cost.

Yes. There will be a trained and experienced sailor on the yacht to sail the yacht for you.

You will sail approximately 1.2 km to 2.5 km out into the open sea. You will not be seen from the shore from Gateway of India.

Knowing how to swim is not mandatory for sailing cruises in Mumbai. You will be given a lifejacket to wear.

You will get a beautiful view of the Gateway of India and Taj hotel as you begin. You will pass by the boats and yachts parked in the Mumbai harbour as you sail out into the open sea. The view of the shore from the sea is truly magnificent. You will get a view of the lighthouses (Sunk Rock light house, Dolphin light house, Prongs light house), structures built in the middle of the sea (Oyster Rock and Middle Ground) and if you are lucky, you may also spot dolphins!

You have to reach the sailing venue (Jetty No. 5) just 15 minutes prior to your booking start time.

For example, if you book the 4:00 pm to 06:00 pm slot, your reporting time will be 03:45 pm

You will get to go sailing even if you reach late by some time. However, please note that the sailing time is not extended beyond your booking end time.

We do not provide assistance with parking vehicles at the sailing venue.

There is a pay and park service in the lanes around Taj Hotel. You will have to find parking on your own and then walk to the sailing venue (Jetty No. 5).

Once your plan is finalised (decided which yacht you wish to book, date and time slot), you will have to make payment to confirm the booking.

Payment can be done via bank transfer (NEFT / IMPS), UPI, Google Pay, credit card, debit card and net banking. We will share our company bank details / online payment link with you via email or WhatsApp.

Once the payment reflects in our account, the booking confirmation and related details will be sent to you via email and WhatsApp.

Mumbai Boat Hire: How and Where to Charter a Yacht

Get a Different Perspective of Mumbai Aboard a Boat

If you want to see Mumbai from a different perspective, one of the most memorable things you can do is go on a Mumbai boat trip. If you're on a budget, taking the ferry to the Elephanta Caves or Alibaug are options.

However, if you don't mind splurging, you can charter a luxury yacht and determine your own itinerary. Both day and overnight trips are possible, as well as sunset trips around the coast of Mumbai.

The season starts in October and ends in May. Boating operations are suspended during the monsoon, from June until the end of September.

My Experience

Fortunately for me, one of my friends decided to charter a boat for his birthday. It was an attractive and immaculately clean little yacht that had space for up to 10 people. Inside was room to sleep, a toilet and basin, and other facilities such as a stereo.

We were picked up from the Gateway of India late in the morning and headed to Alibaug for a picnic lunch at tucked away Awas Beach. We brought our own food and wine, and had a blissful day away from the hustle of the city. In the afternoon, we cruised around Mumbai Harbor as the sun set, and docked back at the Gateway of India in time to relax on the boat and watch the Gateway and the Taj Palace hotel become illuminated in the evening. It was one of the most magical experiences I've had in Mumbai.

Itinerary and Package Options

Boat hire companies generally offer a lot of flexibility in terms of packages and destinations. Other options, apart from Alibaug, include:

• Marine Drive and the Mumbai skyline (also beautiful at night, with the chain of lights glittering like their name "the Queen's necklace").
• Bandra-Worli Sea Link.
• Northern beaches such as Madh Island and Gorai.
• Fishing in the open waters towards the west.

Packages include:

• An evening cruise, dinner, and overnight in Mumbai Harbor.
• A day on board the yacht.
• A day of water sports at Mandwa beach near Alibaug.
• A weekend trip with beach hopping around Alibaug.
• Photography along the Konkan coastline.

Boats: What to Consider

The first thing you should decide on is the type of experience you wish to have -- are you looking for a boat that's built for speed (a motor boat) or leisure (a sail boat)? You'll need to take into account the sailing capabilities of yourself and your crew. It's harder to maneuver longer yachts, so the destination will also play a big role in the size of the yacht you hire. In addition, it's necessary to consider the number of people that will be aboard, and the services you require. Do you want food and beverages to be provided, or will you bring your own?

Most yachts are hired on an hourly basis. Rates start from about 5,000 rupees for two hours, for a small boat that can fit four to six people. Larger groups of eight to 10 people can expect to pay around 10,000 rupees for two hours, going up to 15,000 rupees for boats that can accommodate 15 people.

Want to go from Mumbai to Alibaug (Mandawa jetty) or the Elephant Caves? Uber launched its speedboat service in January 2019. You can now hire a speedboat through the Uber app to travel between these destinations. There are two options:

• UberBOAT -- priced at 5,700 rupees one way, for six to eight passengers.
• UberBOAT XL -- larger speedboats that can accommodate more than 10 passengers and cost 9,500 rupees one way.

The service operates between 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Bookings need to be made at least 15 minutes in advance. Travel time from Mumbai to Alibaug by speedboat is about 20 minutes.

Total price = Price for Macgregor 26 yacht + Food delivery charge + actual food bill

Option 1:  You can get your food and eat it on the boat. Plates, glasses, etc. will be provided on the boat. Option 2:  We can order food from one of the below restaurants. You simply pay the actual bill amount for the food + Rs. 500 food delivery charges. How many crew members will be there on the boat? Only 1 sailor will be there on the boat. He will sail the boat and also help you with the plates etc. for dinner.
