Held from 11 to 16 May, a special preview edition of the Jeddah Yacht Show showcased the impressive development of Jeddah Yacht Club and Marina, and marked the beginning of the Jeddah Season – a two-month season offering a packed schedule of events.

By Hill Robinson 14 June 2022

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is fast developing its coastal and maritime assets, building 200km of new destinations such as Neom, Amaala and the Red Sea Project on the edge of the exquisitely beautiful, pristine waters of the Red Sea. The recently opened Jeddah Yacht Club and Marina is at the epicentre of this, providing a platform for the leisure marine industry to prosper.

To celebrate the opening of the Jeddah Yacht Club and Marina , a special preview edition of the Jeddah Yacht Show took place over six days in May. Set to take place in November each year going forward, the event is the first of its kind in Saudi Arabia and aims to showcase every facet of nautical tourism and the on-water lifestyle.

The preview edition of Jeddah Yacht Show was a luxury extravaganza featuring superyachts, water toys, cars, high-end fashion and much more. Some of the world’s premier yachting brands were on display for inspection, including RIVA, Princess, Pershing, Gulf Craft, Custom Line and Ferretti Yachts.

From idea to delivery, the Jeddah Yacht Show came to life in just six weeks. There has been a lot happening in Jeddah in the past year, and the event has brought attention to just how much has changed on the glittering seafront of Saudi Arabia’s second city. “The opening of Jeddah Yacht Club and Marina is a massive achievement,” comments veteran yacht show organiser Andy Treadwell, who helped set up this first edition of the Jeddah Yacht Show.

“It’s important to create an event to highlight what’s on offer here, although it’s equally important to stress that this is not an international yacht show. This year’s Jeddah Yacht Show was a ‘pre-show’, to demonstrate what’s possible here, to see what support we get locally, and to see what support we would get from the international brands. And the enthusiasm we’ve seen bodes well for planning a proper yacht show in the coming years.”

The event also marked the beginning of Jeddah Season – running from May to June, the two-month season offers a packed schedule of events to reflect Jeddah’s rich culture and heritage, as well as its growing status as a regional tourist destination. The first Jeddah Season was held in 2019 and featured various events such as a nightly fireworks display on Jeddah’s promenade and musical performances.

Hill Robinson recently opened a new office within the Jeddah Yacht Club and Marina development – its second office in the Kingdom. As the marina in Jeddah becomes fully operational, there will likely be strong demand from passing yachts for fuelling and provisioning and Hill Robinson is the go-to superyacht management company for accessing the region, offering a whole host of speciality services including provisioning, concierge, aviation, as well as inbound and outbound clearance and agency services.

jeddah yacht show

Jeddah Yacht Club, JYC Marina and JYC Academy will host some of the world’s most dramatic and stunning yachts during Jeddah Season 2022. Ultra-modern foiling boats, round-the-world racing yachts, an A-Class tall ship and a collection of superyachts will gather in JYC Marina to celebrate Saudi Arabia’s marine heritage and the ambitions of Saudi Vision 2030.

Mohideen Nazer, Senior Vice President Parks, Resorts and Hotels for Sela, the company behind Jeddah Yacht Club, JYC Marina and JYC Academy, said: “These are state-of-the-art facilities, and we are thrilled to be participating in Jeddah Season. We have brought together some amazing sailing and power boats from all around the world including super high-tech foiling boats, luxury superyachts and incredible ocean racing yachts.

We want to inspire people to take up water sports, either in the smallest of dinghy like an optimist or on a superyacht. We have something for everyone: school programs, taster sessions, mast climbs, joy rides and luxury superyacht charters."

Commenting on Saudi marine heritage, Samia Bagdady, CEO of Saudi Sailing Federation said: “Historically Jeddah relied on great sailors to help transport cargo from ships moored off Jeddah Port – the faster the sailors, the more trips they made, and the more they were paid for their services. They even had friendly races to transport pilgrims coming to Hajj from the ships!

"Now we are re-kindling this marine spirit and through Jeddah Season hope to inspire a new generation of great Saudi sailors. We have partnered with Jeddah Yacht Club to develop a sporting pathway. We are promoting the beautiful Red Sea coast and will be attracting sport and marine businesses to Jeddah. We have an amazing program of activity, and we welcome all to join us.”

Jeddah Yacht Club and JYC Marina are new world-leading facilities and visitors during Jeddah Season will be invited to experience the thrills of sailing and power boats in a variety of activities, including:

The line-up is set to include the first-ever showing in the Middle East of several new models of boat, and also the unique historic 1952 Ferrari ARNO XI  – an incredible V12-powered race boat built by Enzo Ferrari specifically to gain the world water speed record, which it immediately did, and holds to this day.

Also, on show during the Festival of Yachting Lifestyle will be a classic 1960 Riva Ariston, and a Hermes Speedster - a modern version of the gentlemen’s boats of that era, with its Porsche-like lines and unique character. On the quayside looking over the amazing collection of yachts, will be a collection of highly-prized classic cars, alongside a fleet of the world’s most famous supercar and luxury car brands – all for sale at very special prices!

The iconic Jeddah Yacht Club proudly overlooking JYC Marina will be inviting prospective members to sample the magic of this new members’ club. A design inspired by Sela’s inhouse team represents the fusion of travel and emotion – a mast to elevate, a sail to capture magical moments, and a boom to lift spirits, day and night. Jeddah Yacht Club is designed with luxury in mind, including a state-of-the-art Wellness Centre, the Social House restaurant curated by Michelin Star chef Jason Atherton, a Beach Club in partnership with Omnia, a VIP RIVA Sky Lounge and business center.

Jeddah Yacht Club has partnered with Yacht Club de Monaco and will be hosting a private night of glitz and glamour during Jeddah Season.

Saudi Sailing Federation will host the National ILCA Championship (Olympic class boat formerly called Laser) at Jeddah Yacht Club during Jeddah Season, where talented Saudi sailors are invited to compete for a place in the Saudi team entering the Asian Games in China later this year.

Hassan AlKabbani, President of the Saudi Sailing Federation said: “Sailing is coming to Jeddah Season, and it is very exciting. We will use this momentous event to spark an interest and passion for boating amongst the people of Saudi and to showcase to the sailing world that they should come to Saudi Arabia and enjoy our beautiful waters and warm hospitality.

"We have 1,760 kilometers of wonderful Red Sea coastline that is perfect for boating, be it cruising or racing. Our partnership with SELA is designed to provide opportunities for people to go boating and Jeddah Season is our first major showcase.”

The countdown is on for the second Preliminary Regatta of the 37th America’s Cup with the Red Sea city of Jeddah in Saudi Arabia getting ready to host the world’s finest foiling sailors all eager to sail in the pristine waters from the 29th of November through to the 2nd of December 2023.

Hosted by the fabulous Jeddah Yacht Club & Marina, truly one of the finest yacht clubs in the world, racing will once again be in the pure one-design AC40 class – the most exciting new foiling fleet on the planet. The format will see the competing teams contest eight fleet races, starting on Thursday 30 th  November before the top two teams will contest a winner-takes-all one-on-one Match Race to be crowned as champions and give the winning team an incredible boost going into 2024 when Barcelona will host the 37 th  America’s Cup for real.

The contest in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia promises to be electric with all the teams capable of winning races – the most consistent will come out on top.

For fans and spectators in Jeddah, this second Preliminary Regatta will be the most accessible sporting contest with Jeddah’s famous ‘Corniche’ playing host to the Race Village and Fan Zone to catch all the action on jumbo screens in real-time whilst enjoying the various activations and restaurant pop-up facilities. The Race Village is open to the public at no cost, with all the racing streamed on the big screens and entertainment on the main stage.

Furthermore, spectators will be able to watch the thrilling action right up along the Corniche, as the AC40’s pass by the shore at speeds of up to 100 kph, flying above the surface of the water on foils. The racing is tactical and close with all the boats equalised to ensure that the most consistent and skilful team wins and with the America’s Cup racing now under a year away, every team wants to put in a top performance. Nobody wants to be last and in the America’s Cup where, famously, “There is no second,” this is a chance for the sailors to stamp their mark on the event and set the tone for the year ahead.

With the America’s Cup coming to Jeddah and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, it is an important activation for the Saudi Sailing Federation and the Jeddah Yacht Club & Marina facility which is one of the most active clubs in the world with a youth programme that encourages some 40 children a day to come and try sailing. To date close to  2000 girls and boys have passed through the Jeddah Yacht Club Academy system and with near-perfect weather for sailing on a daily basis, it is a programme that is getting widespread attention in the Kingdom.

Mohideen Nazer, Senior Vice President at Sela, the company behind Jeddah Yacht Club & Marina proudly stated: “We have invested in these amazing facilities at The JYC Academy because we are committed to the growth of water sports throughout Saudi Arabia. We have built a world class training centre in Jeddah that will inspire people new to the sport to come and try it and will provide elite sailors with the best opportunity to develop their competitive skills. We want as many people as possible to enjoy water sports – young and old, newcomers and elite alike – and we have built a centre that is inspirational.”

Grant Dalton, CEO of America’s Cup Events, visited the yacht club in October and was impressed with what he saw, saying: “The Jeddah Yacht Club and Marina facility is undeniably one of the finest clubs in the world and we are really excited to be bringing the America’s Cup Preliminary Regatta to the Kingdom. Our motivation is to inspire and assist the Saudi Sailing Federation and the Jeddah Yacht Club in their mission to make the sport of sailing accessible to all and their academy is a lesson in how to do it right. We are very grateful to the yacht club for their support, and we look forward to sailing on the Red Sea in the perfect conditions that the region offers and inspiring generations of Saudi sailors to participate in the sport.”

After a monumental build effort in record time, the first ever superyacht marina on the Red Sea coast has been welcoming yachts in time for the inaugural Saudi Arabia Grand Prix , where lucky visitors will get the chance to preview the world-class Jeddah Yacht Club (JYC) before its grand opening in March 2022.

In a continued bid to promote economic growth in the area, the JYC marina and yacht club marks the first foray into major yachting developments that are set to take place in the kingdom over the next ten years.

Jeddah Marina in Saudi Arabia

Mohideen Nazer, Director of Parks and Resorts at SELA is delighted that the yachting world has its first home address on Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea, confirming that the project is “a major first step to turn the Red Sea Coast into a compelling destination for yachting aficionados to enjoy our amazing cruising grounds.”

The new marina, opened on the eve of the F1 event, will be able to accommodate over 100 yachts up to an impressive 120m (394ft) in length, and will provide a convenient stop-off point for yachts heading to the popular cruising grounds of the Indian Ocean and SouthEast Asia. The marina will also be able to provide convenient repair and maintenance facilities once completed.

Shaping up to be a world-class facility, the JYC will be the perfect complement to the marina, offering visitors the ultimate platform for “diverse, world-class experiences across a spectrum of social, sport and leisure activities.”

jeddah yacht show

SELA, the national company behind some of the most ambitious lifestyle development projects across  the whole of Saudi Arabia, is delighted to announce that JYC Marina this week welcomes the first  yachts to berth there on the occasion of the inaugural Saudi Arabia F1 Grand Prix.

jeddah yacht show

This new international motorsport spectacular takes place this weekend from 3rd - 5th December, at the new circuit on Jeddah’s North Corniche – the fastest F1 street circuit in the world. Guests aboard  megayachts like M/Y O Pari, 95m, built by Golden Yachts, the 85m Oceanco Sunrays and the 82m Abeking & Rasmussen RoMEA, have been joined by a fleet of over 40 superyachts and smaller units to  take part in the fun, for what is going to be an adrenalin-packed weekend, just a stone's throw away  from the JYC Marina.

JYC Marina is the first marina along the Red Sea coast that can accommodate superyachts and  megayachts up to 120m in a world-class environment. In parallel, this opening event will give visiting  yachts and VIP visitors to the F1 a unique opportunity to preview the premises of the upcoming Jeddah  Yacht Club, which will be officially opened around the time when the Saudi F1 GP returns for the 2022  season on 25-27 March 2022.

A project built in record time – an incredible six months from first breaking ground, on an inland site, to  welcoming some of the biggest yachts in the world this week - the entire complex is situated in the  northern part of Jeddah, only a few kilometers away from the new King Abdulaziz airport and the city  center. It comprises JYC Marina, the Jeddah Yacht Club and a collection of retail and F&B outlets on the  marina Boardwalk around the basin.

WORLD CLASS MARINA

Capable of berthing over 100 yachts of all sizes up to 120m, JYC Marina epitomizes the future of  superyachting on Saudi Arabia's Red Sea coastline. It is the first step into major yachting developments  that are to take place in the Kingdom over the next 10 years, stretching from Neom in the North to  Amaala and the Red Sea Project further south down to Jeddah and beyond.

jeddah yacht show

Developed by SELA, JYC Marina provides berthing in a safe and secure environment with gated entry  and easy access for guests, service providers and ship chandlers. It offers all the necessary supplies of  electricity, water and fuel bunkering facilities, in a spectacular modern and functional environment. It  has an on-site helipad to make it convenient for guests to arrive and embark or disembark discretely.

One of the key benefits of JYC Marina is that it is recognized by the Saudi authorities as a port of entry  into the Kingdom. As such, it provides customs clearance and immigration services to all vessels,  including foreign-flagged superyachts that will charter in the area, or stop off to visit this fast-developing  destination on their way to the newly opened cruising grounds of the East Indian Ocean and Southeast  Asia. In addition, once fully operational by the end of March 2022, JYC Marina will provide repair and  maintenance facilities within the Marina precinct.

With its highly strategic location, JYC Marina is ready to welcome permanent and seasonal yachts coming  from the Mediterranean, the GCC, the Indian Ocean, Asia and beyond. As it is already possible to book  short or long-term berthing at Port JYC Marina, interested yachts can enquire directly with the Marina  manager by emailing [email protected]

WORLD CLASS YACHT CLUB

An exclusive members-only establishment, the Jeddah Yacht Club was founded to grow the maritime  spirit and lifestyle in Saudi Arabia by providing diverse, world-class experiences across a full spectrum of  social, sports and leisure activities. Strategically positioned at the crossroads of historical Red Sea  maritime routes, JYC aims to provide a major new platform in the Kingdom for the development of  sailing, boating and every facet of the healthy, fun-filled, on-water and sporting lifestyle for its members.  It also intends to raise awareness of the need to protect marine biodiversity and ensure the preservation  of the Red Sea environment for the younger generations and the local community to enjoy and take care  of in their turn.

The perfect complement to JYC Marina, the development of the Jeddah Yacht Club was initiated only six  months ago, at the end of April 2021 – designed and built from scratch in record time. As SELA will be completing the final touches to the Club House for its official opening less than a year after the project  was launched, the Jeddah Yacht Club team have decided to take advantage of the first F1 weekend to  play host to private, invitation-only entertainment and hospitality for future members and Marina  guests to discover the premises and facilities soon to be available.

jeddah yacht show

The Jeddah Yacht Club's architecture has been carefully designed to stimulate the senses and offer its  members a rich, marine-inspired atmosphere where they can enjoy the numerous social and nautical  activities available. Its mast-and-sail-themed 5,000sqm club house, located by the entrance channel of  the Marina, is a beacon, a lighthouse that welcomes visitors to Jeddah’s shores.

In addition to panoramic views of the city, the Jeddah Yacht Club boasts a feast of facilities for its  members, which include restaurants, a wellness center, a business center, lounges, concierge services,  sailing and nautical activities. Its Beach Club, operated by a team from world-renowned Omnia Club,  features an infinity pool with glorious views over the Red Sea.

Another first in Jeddah, the Jeddah Yacht Club will welcome the Jason Atherton restaurant. Famous to  gastronomes from London to Shanghai, Mykonos to St. Moritz, this Michelin Star-rated chef is instantly  recognized for his cool artistic creations that evoke memories from other times and other places.

Mohideen Nazer, Director Parks & Resorts, SELA : "We're delighted that the world of yachting now has  its first home address on Saudi Arabia's Red coast. All the teams have worked very hard to give birth to  this great Marina and magnificent Club House in record time. This is a small step in our contribution to  the realization of Vision 2030 for the Kingdom, but it is nonetheless a major first step to turn the Red  Sea Coast into a compelling destination for yachting aficionados to enjoy our amazing cruising grounds".

Oliver Rees, General Manager Jeddah Yacht Club & Marina (from January 2022) : "JYC Marina and the  Jeddah Yacht Club will be a perfect home port for private yachts, but also a great place to meet, enjoy  sailing and water sports and revel in the quality of services we have on offer. It will also be a gateway to  the wonders of the Red Sea, and we are confident that this fantastic new facility will rapidly become a  prime waypoint on the global yachting map."

10 of the biggest yachts at this year's Palm Beach International Boat Show

jeddah yacht show

The Palm Beach International Boat Show returns to West Palm Beach's waterfront from March 21-24 — bringing with it some of the largest, most luxurious yachts in the world.

The Super Yacht Show Palm Beach features a range of boats that are longer than 100 feet, including 18 that are longer than 151 feet.

Here's a look at 10 of the biggest boats that visitors to the show can experience up close.

Come Together

This 197-foot behemoth with a price tag that starts at $59.95 million makes it the most expensive boat for sale at the 2024 Palm Beach International Boat Show.

Come Together provides plenty of space and amenities to do as its name suggests and bring more than a dozen people together for an adventure at sea, according to its listing on the show's website.

It was built in 2022 by Amels and features a hybrid propulsion system. The interiors were done by Winch Design of London, with materials including Jerusalem limestone, light matte oak and walnut, and bronze. The ship's six cabins can house up to 14 guests, the listing said.

A 27-meter sun deck features a Jacuzzi with a sunbathing area, gym equipment, sheltered bar and wind-protected dining table.

You can find Come Together in the water at Ramps C and D.

Hospitality

Want to buy the 164-foot Hospitality? The price starts at $29.75 million, according to the yacht's listing on the boat show's website.

The Westport-built vessel was first constructed in 2011 and refit in 2021. It has seven cabins that can accommodate 16 guests. That includes a primary suite and a VIP suite. It also features a sun deck with a hot tub and sunbathing area.

The ship has traveled "to some of the world's most remote places with an impressive 4,000+ nautical mile range," its listing said.

You can find Hospitality in the water at Ramp E at the show.

The 155-foot Ancora was just completed in August by manufacturer Mengi Yay, its listing said. It is being presented by Fraser Yachts.

Ancora was built for charter use and has a master suite with a private balcony, plus four staterooms including two doubles and two convertibles, allowing for up to 10 guests, the listing said.

Summer charter rates with Fraser run from about $282,000 per week in the western Mediterranean Sea to about $260,000 per week in the winter in the Caribbean, according to Fraser's website .

You can find Ancora in the water at Ramp 2.

Next Chapter

This Benetti-built vessel is 180 feet and 6 inches and was built in 2003 with a refit in 2022, the listing said.

Next Chapter's six cabins — including a split-level master suite with an observation lounge and private study — can accommodate up to 13 people. It features a Jacuzzi, gym and beach club, and is built for charter use, the listing said.

The price starts at $19.9 million, and the ship is being presented at the show by The International Yacht Co.

Next Chapter will be in the water at Ramp E.

For $21 million, you can be the new owner of the Feadship-built Berilda, a 155-foot yacht built in 2001 and refit in 2020-21, according to its listing.

The yacht has "the highest pedigree with a documented history of excellent owners and meticulous care," the listing said. That ownership includes Royal Swedish Yacht Club member Sten Tegner, and Richard and Leslie Fairbanks.

The current owner bought Berilda in 2021 and has sailed across the Atlantic Ocean twice and through Europe, New England, the Bahamas and the Caribbean, the listing said. The yacht features six cabins for up to 14 people and quarters for a crew of up to 10.

Berilda will be in water at Ramp C.

Liberty, built by Trinity, is 187 feet and 2 inches, according to its listing. The yacht is designed for entertaining, the listing said, with social spaces including a dance floor.

Liberty was built in 2012, with work including a paint job, main engine rebuild, new generators and 10-year survey completed since 2018. The price starts at $24.75 million and the ship is being shown by The International Yacht Co.

The yacht has six cabins for 12 guests, with additional capacity for 13 crew, the listing said.

Named simply W, this 188-foot Feadship yacht is being shown by its manufacturer, according to its listing.

The vessel, originally launched as Larisa in 2013, had a major refit in 2020 and was renamed at that time, the listing said. W's owner changed the livery and antifouling, among other alterations, over the past 10 months, the listing said.

W will be in the water at Ramp C.

Priced at $20.9 million and being shown by exhibitor FGI Yacht Group, the 164-foot Tsumat was built by Trinity in 2012 and refit last year, according to its listing.

The exterior was designed by Geoff Van Aller. The interior by Ramón Alonso features leather, suede, marble and walnut, with onyx floors.

There are six staterooms for up to 12 guests and housing for a 10-person crew, the listing said.

Tsumat will be in the water at Ramps 2 and D.

The Nita K II is about 171 feet and was built by Amels in 2004, the listing said. It's priced starting at $23.9 million and presented by Merle Wood & Associates.

A refit in 2021-22 included an overhaul of the main engines and generators, and a 20-year Lloyd's class special survey was completed earlier this year, the listing said.

The interior was designed by Alberto Pinto and Laura Sessa, and the yacht can accommodate up to 12 people in five staterooms, plus room for 14 crew members in seven cabins, the listing said.

Nita K II will be in the water at Ramp D.

If it tells you anything about the level of luxury aboard the BG Charade, this 157-foot yacht was built by Feadship in 1990 for the late Paul Allen of Microsoft, the listing said. Under Allen, the BG Charade completed three circumnavigations and served as the honeymoon venue for Bill and Melinda Gates.

A technical and cosmetic refit was completed in 2016 and included new generators, rebuilt engines, new teak on the exterior and a complete electrical system update, the listing said.

BG Charade has six cabins for up to 12 guests, plus accommodations for up to 10 crew, the listing said.

The yacht will be in the water at Ramp 7.

Bonus: Talisman C

The epically long — 231.6 feet — and super-luxurious Talisman C, built by Turquoise in 2011, will be shown by Burgess Yachts in the water at Ramps D and E.
