Queensland Cruising Yacht Club

Ratings and reviews, location and contact.

I am a lover of chowder meals and found that they served Seafood Chowder so we visited the restaurant on a Friday night for dinner. The chowder was very average, the atmosphere was nice and the service was very average. I would not be returning... again as the chowder was not to my liking. More

Nice venue and food ok but some meals are expensive by lunch standards, particularly the fish and the pork. Limited individual main meal menu options and whilst no issues with food quality it is not value for money. Drink prices are reasonable and staff member... was friendly and helpful. Pleasant outlook over the water and inside dining also offers good views. More

The meal quality was exceptional and presented beautifully. All 4 members of our family experienced delicious choices. Staff were very friendly and meals were served within 15mins of ordering. We will definitely be booking again.

Arrived this Friday at 12.30 for lunch. Ordered a cider, was told barrel needed changing and 2 minutes later that cider had run out. Ok, can happen. Started to order food, of the 3 Specials only one - the curry was available - may be... bad planning? Ordered the seafood marinara - when it arrived it was quantity before quality and should have been renamed squid marinara as 95 % of the seafood was squid !!! No fish, prawns, mussels or scallops. Had a quiet word with the staff and asked them to pass on my comments to the chef. Upon return I was told that the chef uses a seafood portion pack for a dish costing 32 Dollars!!! The ingredients of the pack must have been so small that they became part of the tomato base and could not be identified any longer. This in spite of the fact that the prawn trawlers are based on the creek less than 300 meters from the Club and are selling from the boat. Not sure they need a chef for this kind of cooking. Was offered a free dessert, declined as I would rather have had a decent main course. Not happy. More

Hmmm, being at the club on the water , thought I would try the seafood basket. 1 prawn, 5 calamari, as big as a five cent price, two flathead tails..all deep fried to the max..,.so poor, very disappointing @ top dollar $28.

There is no doubt the Yacht Club is a great venue for a Sunday afternoon drink and relax. However the dining experience has taken a complete change of direction. I recall from older days when the Club boasted their own Chef and restaurant quality food.... The Chef has now been replaced by a microwave and deep fryer and is being prepared by someone who has no knowledge on how to use those two appliances. More

Had to wait 2.15 Hrs for food today, table of 5 & that was 4 ordering Tapas. Staff looked very uncomfortable as we had to ask twice where the meals were. Great spot, but obviously need more catering staff on Sundays

Booked here for lunch with a group of friends. What a great ‘secret’ local spot. Great service & great food. Bar is limited on what they sell, but was ok. We would have liked to see maybe one or 2 cocktails on offer. We loved... qcyc so much, that we are booking our upcoming function here. A very ‘cruisy’ afternoon listening to some music & soaking up some sunshine. More

After a play at the Shorncliffe pier we decided to pop in to the QCYC for dinner and a drink with our children and were very impressed! It's a gorgeous little club with amazing food and helpful service. My Barra was to die for!! Outstanding!... Everyone else had great things to say as well. We decided to sit inside next to the little pot belly fire to keep warm but could still enjoy the marina and boats thought the glass doors. The Yacht Club has older style decor but it was super clean and has a great vibe and is extremely kid friendly! Danny also supplied us with some colouring in paper and crayons for the little ones. We will be recommending to all our friends and family. Thank you for a great night QCYC. Lauren More

This venue is a working yatch club and has gone through positive change over the last 12 months. 12 months ago the food was mediocre and the bar was pretty average. The current Chef, (Scott), has been on board for around 12 months and consistently... delivers high quality, surprising dishes. Via a large outside servery window, you can hear the kitchen working, (this includes positive comments from the Chef to his junior staff), and get a birds eye view of what goes on. The bar has a new manager which is a good thing. Sunset drinks and dinner is just spectacular. More

Well, if you light water and yachts, who wouldn't like the views here. Unpretentious little place, especially outside, you can get dressed up as much as you want, or just come in and site after kayaking (as we did). The food was fantastic, the views... very good, and service was quite good after the initial busy rush. We can't wait to visit again - we love old fashioned places that aren't just all glamour! Will try brekky on a Sunday next! More

Food here was to die for until they changed chefs now it is very mediocre. Food lacks quality and presentation, have given breakfast a couple of go,s since the chef change and the major problem is consistency but when it's bad it's bad.

First I am a Director of the club, however I often pop in for breakfast or dinner and have had many guests over the last few years...fantastic food and with our new chef...the new menu is looking great...it's family friendly and a must do in... Brisbane... More

The food was great and wait could not be more helpful. Very quiet but a glorious day. Would go again.

In Australia, Fathers' Day is on the first Sunday in September. The QCYC, although they displayed no signs whatever for Fathers' Day, and did not welcome dads, at least were open on the day and lunch was available. Well, you have to make a dollar.... I had booked in advance, but found that our party of four had been assigned stools on a high bench, even though I had booked well in advance, low tables with actual chairs were available, and most certainly were when I had booked, and the place was not full on the day, although it was quite well-patronised. The pleasant bar-staff sorted that out fairly quickly, but why did they have to, given that I had been promised a good table? The service staff were very pleasant, and I suspect that all or most were casuals, but the time it took from ordering to delivery of the meals was extraordinarily long, which was entirely down to the kitchen staff. We were told that it may take 45 minutes, but at 70 minutes I approached the bar - where one ordered - and told them that it had been well over an hour. The meals, or 75% of them turned up shortly afterwards. Not a word of apology accompanied them and not a word of explanation as to why there were three only delivered. The apology, which was richly deserved, not from the wait staff but from management and kitchen staff, was not forthcoming. Never. 45 minutes is extremely acceptable, but 80 minutes is absolutely disgraceful. The bar/wait staff were both pleasant and plentiful, but clearly the kitchen staff was inadequate or had decided to ignore the actual restaurant patrons in favour of the many in a large tent outside. My belief is that the kitchen staff made a decision to ignore orders from the real restaurant in favour of those outside in the marquee: we who had booked early (I had booked long before for 12 Noon) and were in the club, were looked after AFTER those in the marquee. In some ways that is reasonable, but 1) we were not told at any point that our orders would not be considered until after all those from the marquee had been prepared, and 2) we were a party of four, just four, so easily ignored. I will never return to this place solely because of the way the restaurant is run. It is difficult to reach, yes, but it is on a very pleasant creek - or really river. I learnt to sail here many years ago when it was much easier to reach. It is a marvellous place for he eyeballs, but sadly a disappointment on so many grounds now. It is most definitely not a place to take your family on Sunday for lunch, unless you're happy to order at 1.07 pm, have three of the four meals delivered at 2.20pm, and the fourth at 2.30pm. From the Queensland Cruising Yacht Club website. The history of the Queensland Cruising Yacht Club (QCYC) and that of the Brisbane to Gladstone Yacht Race are inextricably linked. Festivals are thriving in regional Queensland. Here are some events for your travel bucket list

Groups of people laugh as they stand in round barrels on a street, crushing grapes.

For vineyard owner Greg Kentish, seeing Queensland's tourism industries bounce back after the COVID-19 pandemic has created a sense of relief.

"We love having tourists and Brisbanites here for weekends, day trips, or however they want to come," he said.

Mr Kentish is among the producers in the heart of southern Queensland's wine country celebrating the region's biennial food and wine festival, Apple and Grape.

"It's a very exciting time for people to come and experience what is our picking and crushing season, so it's an important time of the year," Mr Kentish said.

The 10-day festival concludes this weekend, and according to Southern Queensland Country Tourism (SQCT) boss Peter Homan, the harvest celebration has led to motels and camping spots in Stanthorpe being booked out.

"The majority of visitors are coming out of that south-east Queensland corner, but all the way from right down in Coffs Harbour," he said.

Tourism and Events Queensland said speciality events across the state, including Apple and Grape, helped boost Queensland's economy by $850 million each year.

CEO Patricia O'Callaghan said the plan was to grow that to $2 billion by 2032.

"Events are a huge driver of tourism into Queensland and it's one that has a significant economic contribution," she said.

"But whilst they're [visitors are] here, they're experiencing the destinations and dispersing throughout the state."

With hundreds of thousands of visitors at some events injecting millions into local economies, "these numbers are quite significant," Ms O'Callaghan said.

Here are some ideas if you're keen to jump in and experience a uniquely Queensland festival or event this year.

Stanthorpe Apple and Grape Harvest Festival

February 23–March 3

The Apple and Grape Festival in Stanthorpe concludes this weekend, but not before a final couple of days full of festivities.

The town plays host to busking championships on March 2, while many orchards will be open for apple picking.

A food and wine fiesta will also take place on Saturday.

Brisbane to Gladstone Yacht Race/Easter in Gladstone

March 28–April 1

The central Queensland harbour city of Gladstone comes to life at Easter for the annual Brisbane to Gladstone yacht race.

The race sets sail from Moreton Bay on March 29, with the first yachts crossing the finish line in Gladstone early the next morning.

The event kicks off a whole Easter celebration in the city, which includes a harbour festival, long lunches and regattas.

Four boats sped forward by billowing sails. Two blue and white, one red and white and one bright yellow.

March 29–31

Calling all petrolheads, RockyNats is one of Queensland's top car festivals.

The three-day event includes plenty of burnouts and street drag-racing action.

There's also bound to be plenty of mullets.

Beef 2024 – Rockhampton

Beef Week kicks off on May 5 in the central Queensland farming capital.

The week-long celebration of all things beef includes cattle competitions, seminars, cooking demonstrations, special lunches, and live entertainment.

The 2024 event will include the newly introduced M'Eat Street.

The Big Red Bash – Birdsville

Billed as one of the world's most remote music festivals, this event requires festival goers to make their way to the edge of the Simpson Desert in outback Queensland.

While the journey is half the fun, once on site there's plenty of musical acts to keep visitors entertained.

Another popular fixture is the annual Nutbush world record attempt, which peaked with 5,838 participants in 2023.

Boulia Camel Races

The Boulia Camel Races take over the outback town for three days in July.

Organisers say attendees are left in awe as the camels race, leaving a trail of red dust in their wake.

Beyond the races, the event includes live entertainment, food, fireworks and novelty races.

Australian Festival of Chamber Music – Townsville

July 26–August 4

This celebration of chamber music brings together more than 30 events and concerts in tropical Townsville.

Many are free to attend.

Alongside world-renowned musicians, emerging local artists are given the opportunity to shine.

Mt Isa Rodeo

August 8–11

Queensland's premier rodeo event, the Mt Isa Rodeo is the largest in the southern hemisphere.

The four-day event is home to Australia's highest rodeo prize and attracts more than 700 competitors every year.

Organisers say the event is where "the east meets west and man meets beast".

Pacific Airshow – Gold Coast

August 16–18

The clear skies of the Gold Coast are the stage for this adrenaline-pumping aerial event with the best civilian and military aviators from around the world showing off their skills.

The event claims to be the "largest airshow event to ever take place in Australia" with an estimated 250,000 spectators watching on from the beaches of Surfers Paradise.

Hamilton Island Race Week

August 17–24

Queensland's Whitsundays is the stunning backdrop to this world-class sailing event.

For those more inclined to land, there's plenty of onshore events ranging from food markets to cocktail parties.

Gympie Music Muster

August 22–25

This event is unashamedly for the country music fans.

Live acts delight crowds for four days in the Amamoor State Forest, with some of the best-known names in country music taking to the stage.

The muster gives back to the bush communities it champions, returning more than $20 million to community groups and charities since its inception.

Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers

September 13–October 7

Now a month-long event, Queensland's Garden City comes alive in spring for the annual Carnival of Flowers.

The town's historical parks bloom with speciality flower displays, while the Festival of Food and Wine showcases the best produce from across the Darling Downs.

Residents open their home gardens to visitors as part of a region-wide garden competition.

Woodford Folk Festival –  Moreton Bay

December 27–January 1

Taking the mantle as Australia's largest outdoor festival, this unique event brings an estimated 132,000 people for a week of camping, community, and arts.

It's best known for its environmentally and philosophical program, with musicians, artists and presenters putting on more than 500 acts.

The village of Woodfordia constructed for the festival lays claims to being Australia's 67th largest town for the duration of the event.
