SanJuanYachts was founded in May of 1998 in Anacortes on Fidalgo Island on the east side of the beautiful San Juan Islands in Washington State.

Our core group of Pacific Northwest yacht builders combine traditional and cutting edge boat building technologies providing hundreds of years of experience accumulated over many life times of dedication to the art of boat building. This talented team perform their craft in a state of the art, environmentally friendly 65,000 square foot boatyard located on 4 acres adjacent to Padilla Bay. Our yacht construction buildings are equipped with overhead bridge cranes, radiant in floor heat and fire sprinkler systems providing safe, efficient, climate controlled and environmentally friendly work space.

The focus of SanJuanYachts is the construction of high-end composite yachts utilizing state of the art production methods. Vacuum assisted resin infusion and 5-axis computer cut (CNC) tooling are used to yield high strength composite structures with unmatched accuracy. Our resin infusion process produces strong, lightweight parts and provides an improved working environment in addition to being friendly to the external environment. We have a 25,000 square foot infusion/lamination shop for building all structures with overhead bridge cranes for moving large parts. Small parts are built in a separate shop within the lamination/infusion shop.

All parts large and small are body worked and painted to provide an exceptional level of finish. Our commitment to the environment and the highest finish quality in our industry is evidenced through our installation of two 60’ x 25’ x 18’ paint spray booths.

All joiner work is performed in our 11,500 square foot joiner shop with a dedicated clean room for interior varnish application.

Yacht assembly, warehousing, service department and office space are located in our second 25,000 square foot yacht assembly building. This building, along with our 3,500 square foot yacht storage building, are also used for service and maintenance on our SanJuanYachts as well as dry winter storage of our yachts.

Founded in 1995

Northern Marine

Pacific Northwest luxury yacht builder Northern Marine manufactures expedition yachts and superyachts from 17 to 46 metres in length.

Luxury yacht builder Northern Marine was founded in Anacortes, Washington, by entrepreneur Richard “Bud” LeMieux in 1995. From the start, the shipyard manufactured rugged, oceangoing, luxury trawler yachts, in keeping with the seafaring traditions of this Pacific Northwest port, but utilised advanced composite construction techniques to build them.

Less than a decade later, luxury yacht builder Northern Marine added superyachts to its line, including the 39.6M custom motor yacht  Magic  designed by naval architect Ward Setzer and delivered in 2005. The following year, luxury yacht builder Northern Marine was acquired by Ashton Capital Corporation.

In addition to superyacht  Magic , luxury yacht builder Northern Marine launched the 44.5M tri-deck superyacht  Lia Fail  in 2005.

In 2007, superyacht builder Northern Marine delivered the 25.76M luxury expedition yacht  Spellbound , a fine example of the shipyard’s oceangoing displacement yacht line, with a range of 5,000 nautical miles.

Located in the Pacific Northwest, ACI Boats is founded on generations of boat building experience.

Owned and operated by cory armstrong, and backed by a team of skilled craftsmen and women..

Cory may be most well known with his work at Armstrong Marine where he spent over 20 years as partner, overseeing the design and fabrication of hundreds of aluminum boats.  Cory grew up in the remote islands off British Columbia, where his parents settled after sailing up to Canada from San Francisco in 1968. Living completely off grid, and traveling to school by way of a wooden paddle boat, Cory began working in metal shops and learning how to weld at a young age. Going to school during the day, and working at night Cory learned the importance of efficiency, and strong work ethic. By 17 years old Cory was the lead night welder at Western Aluminum Craft.  Cory went on to gain extensive hands on experience within the industry. Along with founding Armstrong Marine, Cory was also involved in Moose Boats, a successful Aluminum Boat builder in Vallejo, CA. He is a USCG 100 Ton Master, with an Auxiliary Sail & Towing Endorsement, and has logged sea time in waters around the world. He is a certified welder, private pilot, and scuba diver. A strong believer in designing and implementing efficient business and production processes, Cory is an advocate for Lean Manufacturing and in 2014 became a certified ISO auditor. With all of Cory’s experience and knowledge, the decision to start ACI Boats was a natural progression.

Safety & Engineering

From a fully rigged fishing machine to comfortable weekend adventure, Sea Sport boats will meet the entire family’s boating needs – in style.

Sea Sport Lifestyle

Custom Options

Accessories, configurations.

We can install any brand and size of motor on the market today, both outboards and inboard/outboards.  Since we are not owned by a motor company, we have the flexibility to install whatever you desire.

All tastes are different so we figure we should honor that.  Our custom upholstery department can cut, shape, mend, hem any type of fabric in any color or size.  We offer a broad range or products to choose from.  We can also build custom cushions depending on body frame and preferences.

We all take pride in how we look, and selecting the right color combination for your Sea Sport is often not easy as they all look so glorious.  We can mock up different color options and layouts to fit any desire, as long as the colors are offered by our suppliers.  We match you up with real life color chips to make sure the choice is right for you.

There are some really nice additions that you can have us install at the factory, from pole holders to anchor windlasses.  We take you through our equipment lists and talk about locations, operations, and functionality and suit the equipment to your needs, not just to a universal boat specification.

Lights, tackle boxes, wood trim are a few of the many options we can discuss getting into the boat at the factory.  We’re not a monster factory floor with robots and strict assembly lines.  Our boats are built by hand for each individual owner and getting to this level of detail is what differentiates Sea Sport from the other boats.

Sea Sport offers custom interior layouts for all models.  Typical adjustments are bench seating, head locations, quarter berths, height modifications, etc.  Please don’t hesitate to ask if you have an idea that you think may work for you and your situation and we’ll likely find a way to accommodate.  Again, this is what sets Sea Sport apart from our competition – custom boats for the custom boat owner.

WHAT SELENE OWNERS SAY…

We wanted a compact yacht because we will load her on a cargo ship to explore new playing grounds like the Pacific Northwest or Northern European seas… It’s easily doable with a 42′ boat, and at a reasonable price. We want to see our new boat like a life enhancer and not as a financial or technical burden. This is why sizing the project, refining the specifications and a sound cooperation with the shipyard is essential, and Selene’s teams were ready to help from day one. We have found our perfect yacht…

I spent ten years as a full time vessel master and live-aboard owner. After obtaining my United States Coast Guard Master’s license, I spent countless hours cruising the waters of the San Juan Islands and the Canadian Gulf Islands.

Our constant, and the place we call “home” is M.V. Ellipsis, a Selene 60 Ocean Yacht delivered in 2007. We boat now without boundaries and enjoy navigating the rugged open waters off the west coast as much as we do the Inside Passage.

Summer and fall 2018, we will explore the Columbia and Snake Rivers, getting some experience with the locks on the river. 2019 should find us heading south in the Pacific, spending time cruising Mexico.

Even though my Selene 38 is the smallest in the range we’ve covered more than 20,000 miles in SE Asia; starting in Hong Kong, down to Vietnam and Borneo, then across to Thailand, later south to Malaysia and Singapore.

Everywhere I looked I was impressed with the quality. These are not production boats, but customized, handcrafted, solid vessels. Thank you for building us a beautiful and well founded boat! We look forward to many years of cruising in safety and comfort!

We want everyone in the yard to know just how happy we are with this wonderful boat you have made for us. Please convey our pleasure to everyone involved.

Our Selene « Adagio » has actually exceeded our expectations. Exceptional safety underway, comfortable for extended periods of live-aboard time, and excellence of workmanship are some of the reasons for our high level of satisfaction.

I went out on « Argo » today. The boat looks and performs fantastic. Convey my thanks to all the key people at the yard. The galley looks absolutely amazing. The new sound insulation you have done is really working with minimal vibrations!

We had a wonderful time in the San Juan Islands and Princess Louisa in British Columbia. The boat was perfect! We were in 25 knot winds with beam seas, some of which were well over 8 feet. « Mystic Moon » handled it perfectly!

Rugged Boats Of The Pacific Northwest

The Pacific Northwest is one of the most diverse boating playgrounds — and so are the boats and boaters calling it home. Here's a look at what makes this place special.

Nordlund Yachtfisher navigates Desolution Sound

This custom Nordlund 110-foot yachtfisher, built in Tacoma, Washington, navigates Desolation Sound, British Columbia. (Photo: ©Neil Rabinowitz 2017)

The Pacific Northwest is known for big tides, rocky shores, cold water, deserted destinations, and a rainy season that generally stretches from October through April.

So why are there so many passionate recreational boaters in Oregon, Washington, Alaska, and Canada's British Columbia?

Pacific Northwest map

Photo: Thinkstockphotos.com/jongorr

"There's a sense of independence among the boating public here," says George Harris, president of the Northwest Marine Trade Association, which represents the region's marine businesses. "Our rainy season doesn't slow us down. We just go for it. We have boating year-round."

Cooler temperatures and frequent rains mean that many of the boats have protected interior spaces. In Florida and the south, it's all about staying cool while being outside and enjoying the sun. In the Northwest, you'll frequently find boats with heaters to keep the interior of the boat dry and make the shoulder seasons more tolerable when the mercury drops.

Despite the weather, passionate anglers like Harris are chasing fish regardless of the calendar. "If you're really serious about angling for salmon or bottom fish, you are fishing year-round," he says. And cruisers don't let the absence of a blue-sky day keep them at the dock, either.

Duckworth Ultramagnum

Aluminum hulls, like on this Duckworth, are a regional favorite given the area's rocky coastlines and floating debris from lush forests.

It's not hard to find agreement on the hardiness of Pacific Northwest boaters.

"Owners of our boats are out year-round. The only thing likely to stop them is ice. These are dedicated, hardcore boaters," says Bruce Larson, marketing and sales director for Renaissance Marine Group of Clarkston, Washington, which builds the modestly sized aluminum pilothouse and fishing boat brands Duckworth, Weldcraft, and Northwest Boats. "I think what differentiates the Pacific Northwest boater from boaters in other parts of the country is that he or she is prepared to go out in colder climates and the boat has to be built to handle that."

Boating Playground

While recreational fishing looms large in the Pacific Northwest, there are plenty of cruising boats, too. Puget Sound (the second largest estuary in the United States, behind Chesapeake Bay) and the waters around Vancouver Island and Desolation Sound off the British Columbia coastline are popular destinations, but for those wanting the ultimate getaway, there's the trip further north up the coast to Alaska.

Sea Sport 26 Kodiak

Bellingham-based Sea Sport boats are known for durability, dependability, and ability to handle rough water.

Just as the Great Loop is a popular bucket-list item for many East Coast boaters, navigating the Inside Passage to Alaska from Puget Sound is on many a must-do list for boaters on the Pacific Coast. Unlike the Great Loop, however, where there's plenty of infrastructure — fuel stops, places to provision, marinas — this is not the case for those embarking on The Big One on the Left Coast. Aside from the major ports of Seattle and Vancouver, marinas and repair facilities could be 70 miles apart. Given the distances between fuel fill ups, boats here needs larger fuel- and water tanks. There's also no towing service north of Vancouver Island, so self-sufficiency is another characteristic of boaters in this region.

The Inside Passage is a major trip, 1,000 miles from Puget Sound to Glacier Bay (just to the north of Juneau) through a network of protected passages that weave through the islands from Washington to southeastern Alaska. Those who make the passage are hooked on the lush, sprawling, mountainous scenery, diverse marine- and wildlife, and ample outdoor recreation opportunities.

Tough As Nails

Just as the Gulf Coast has shrimp boats and the Maine coast has lobster boats, so the Pacific Northwest has trawlers — snub-nosed bluff-bow fishing boats designed for punching through big seas.

Sam Devlin, a venerable wooden-boat builder in Olympia, Washington, notes that the Pacific Northwest is on the windward side of the Pacific Ocean.

"The wind and waves have had thousands of miles to develop before they get to us, and that has a unique bearing on the shape and design of our boats up here," he says. "The most seaworthy boats tend to be heavy with a high freeboard."

Sequel 14

Enclosed boats like this American Tug provide warmth and shelter from the rain and fog common to the region.

While there are plenty of thick-hulled fiberglass boats here, such as the C-Dory, Osprey, Tomcat, and Skagit Orca, modestly-sized cabin sportfish boats built by Northwest Marine Industries of Bellingham, Washington, you'll find lots of metal boats here, too. Aluminum has long been a favorite of the region. With the famous rocky shorelines and floating logs from the region's lush forestry as frequent navigational hazards, aluminum boats can take a beating that would sink any other craft. It's not just larger boats either; there are plenty of smaller bass boats, dual consoles, and runabouts less than 20 feet built from aluminum, including Weldcraft, Raider, and Hewescraft.

Because rain and fog are frequent visitors, a cabin or pilothouse for protection from the elements, and heat, since it can get cold at night even during the summer, are must-haves (the water temps rarely venture out of the 50s year-round). On the larger size, some of the major players in the recreational trawler boat market — American Tug, Ranger, and Nordic Tugs — call the Northwest home.

Cruising the Pacific Northwest

Photo: ©Neil Rabinowitz 2017

The Waggoner Cruising Guide is known as "the bible for Northwest Cruising," because mariners who call the region their home waters update it annually. Beyond covering each cruising area along with detailed listings of moorage and fuel facilities, diagrams of more than 150 marinas, color photos, and maps, there is plenty of local flavor and insight on ports and anchorages throughout. You can purchase the guide at waggonerguide.com , but the site also has a lot of great information including cruising reports, updates, flotilla and seminar info, free downloads, and much more.

Trawler Yachts

In case you assume there's not much difference between East- and West-Coast boaters, consider the fact that American Tug specs its boats differently depending on where they are to be used. West-Coast boats come with diesel heaters as standard, while those destined for the East Coast are more likely to come with air conditioning.

Made in LaConner, Washington, American Tugs are quintessentially Northwestern in character. The boats have high bows for bearing to windward, a large single engine for fuel economy, and "reverse windshields," which are pilothouse windows that slant inward from top to bottom to shed rain and snow.

American Tugs builds four models from 36 to 49 feet. All the models have a range in excess of 1,000 miles when traveling at displacement speeds, but they do have the ability to nudge the speedometer well into double-digits — handy for outrunning poor weather. These boats are not designed for tight schedules, though; they appeal to long-distance cruisers and liveaboards, neither of which is likely to be in any hurry.

Ranger Tugs in Desolution Sound

Desolation Sound, off the British Columbia coastline, is among the most popular destinations for boaters, who often cruise in company and raft up amid the tranquil setting, like these Ranger Tug owners.

Ranger Tugs has, to some extent, redefined the tug/trawler market and has become hugely popular for the Kent, Washington, builder (which also builds the more contemporary-designed Cutwater brand of cruising boats). Outwardly, Rangers have a passing nod to the workboats of the Puget Sound waterfront. An eyebrow over the forward pilothouse windows and faux vertical wood paneling molded into the cabin trunk are just some of the features that give these boats a workmanlike air.

The Ranger line ranges from its trailerable 21-foot pocket tug to the largest boat in their lineup, the new 31-footer. The latter features two doubles in separate cabins, two heads, full galley, a dinette, and spacious cockpit aft with an innovative fold-down seat on the gunwales to further open up the cockpit when the boat is at anchor or tied to the dock. The 31 starts at about $320,000.

Under the cockpit sole is a single 300-hp Volvo diesel that will propel the boat to a brisk cruising speed of 16 knots. Like the American Tugs, the Ranger 31 comes essentially in two versions: The Northwest version has forced diesel heat, while the East Coast version adds a generator and air conditioning. Despite weighing 11,000 pounds, it is possible to tow this boat behind a large truck, and Ranger will sell you a three-axle trailer to go with the boat, thus opening up cruising areas not normally available to larger vessels.

"A good proportion of our owners are retired or planning to retire and go cruising, and they are looking for boats they can spend a good amount of time on," says Jeff Messmer, vice president of Ranger. "Our boats are ideal for the waters of the Northwest. We equip them with large tanks so folks can stay away from the dock for an extended period," he adds. New owners can take delivery in Puget Sound, cruise the Northwest waters, some as far as Alaska, then return the boat to the factory where it's shrinkwrapped and delivered it to the owner's local dealer for recommissioning.

Sam Devlin: Mr. Stitch-N-Glue

While fiberglass and aluminum are the most popular materials for Pacific Northwest boats, there is a notable exception — Olympia, Washington-based designer and builder Sam Devlin, who since 1978 has been building in plywood.

He still uses the "stitch-and-glue" method of boatbuilding, where accurately cut plywood parts are temporarily tied together with copper wires. The panels are glued together using epoxy resin and fiberglass tape forming the boat into a rigid and strong monocoque structure. His six-man Devlin Designing Boat Builders shop has built more than 400 boats. He also sells plans for many of his designs, so the total stable of boats to his designs afloat runs into the thousands, he estimates.

Stitch and glue boat building

Devlin designs and builds power, sail, and human-powered boats across the size spectrum. He says workboats around his Puget Sound home have influenced designs like his Oysta motorsailer and Sockeye 45.

"There's been a lot of immigration over the years from Norway," says Devlin. "There are a lot of double-enders there, and that's definitely had an influence on the boats of the Pacific Northwest."

The San Juan Islands are an archipelago at the northernmost part of Puget Sound, which is part of the Salish Sea, known for a temperate year-round climate and a relaxed "island vibe." There are 172 named islands and reefs, but San Juan, Orcas, Lopez, and Shaw islands are the most populous.

British Columbia's Vancouver Island is known for its diverse ecosystems, including rainforests and abundant wildlife that makes it a premier location for whale watching, salmon and trout fishing, and birding. Victoria and Sidney on the southern shore are among the most popular destination ports.

British Columbia's Desolation Sound, north of the Straight of Georgia in the Salish Sea, is a sprawling deep-water sound that meanders through a dozens of soaring glacier-formed islands and fjords marked by snowcapped peaks, lush foliage, and waterfalls. Dozens of inlets, bays, coves and anchorages can be found in the temperate, calm, and sheltered water. It is considered to be one of the top cruising grounds in the world.

Anacortes Yacht Charters (AYC) boasts a fleet of nearly 80 boats. Charters are run year-round, but high season is May through September. Most of its customers are boat owners from across the country, says Danielle Vincent, who handles reservations and marketing for AYC.

"All of our charters are bareboat, so boating experience is a must," she says. "If you don't have boating experience, we can refer you to classes, one-on-one training, or a full-time skipper. We have had growth in new boaters through our classes and Cruise 'N' Learn instruction." The San Juan Islands are AYC's most popular destination and have something for everyone — scenery, anchorages, fishing, and cruising.

"You can be in a quiet cove one night, eating Dungeness crab and watching the sunset, or in a bustling harbor, shopping for regional art," she says. "The wildlife is abundant, and our mountain ranges really paint a scene. Most people charter for a week or more."

Giddings Boatworks

Pacific Northwest Boat Builders

The coastal waters of the Pacific Northwest are rich and abundant with life allowing commercial fisherman an opportunity to make a living for their families and add to the much needed revenue of the local economies.

It’s not an easy life and it’s not for everyone. With fishing, crabbing or shrimping there is a lot of hard work involved and in very demanding environments that are rough on the crew as well as the boats themselves.

With so much at stake every time the captain leaves the harbor the boats they choose need to be very well constructed and well maintained to ensure the safety of the crew and to make sure their catch gets to market on time.

That’s why boat owners and captains demand a boat builder that has the experience and expertise to design and build industrial strength fishing vessels that can withstand the brutal forces of nature that will be encountered in Pacific Northwest waters.

Among the Pacific Northwest Boat Builders Giddings Boatworks based in Charleston Oregon stands out as a leader in the industry and has earned that reputation for quality and integrity in all the work we do and all the boats we build.

Here at Giddings Boatworks we understand that your boat once built becomes part of your family and it’s livelihood, so we make sure she is built with the highest level of craftsmanship and the best quality components.

So give us a call today at at 541-888-4712 or Contact Us via email and lets work together to get your boat built and ready for  Pacific Northwest waters.

Amadeus Description

Built by the famous Dynamique Yachts shipyard, and having undergone a total refit in 2018, S/Y Amadeus was designed to please the most demanding of yachtsmen. Built for smooth sailing, this elegant cutter rigged sloop has a sleek hull design, comfortably reaching top speeds of 12 knots and ensuring excellent sailing performance. S/Y Amadeus has just undergone this past winter (2018) a major refit such as total repaint top to bottom, new rigging (BSI Denmark), Novourania with new Evinrude 75hp outboard, Splash pool, new Bimini/Sprayhood/Awnings, new exterior fabrics and many other enhancements. In 2016 new “North Sails” were placed onboard. The yacht is maintained in excellent condition with a five-star crew year round. Her generous uncluttered teak deck offers plenty of space for sunbathing. The spacious and unique outdoor saloon has two tables seating upto 12 guests and is a perfect setting for outdoor dining and entertainment. Thanks to a special canopy and roll-up windows, the deck saloon has the added attraction that it can be fully enclosed, making it ideal for all weather conditions. Her forward area includes a splash pool and sun bathing area which can also be shaded with a removable awning. From the cockpit, a stairway leads to the light-filled spacious saloon offering ample seating, ideal for relaxing or enjoying a drink from the bar, and offers a formal dining area. This area also includes a LCD TV, entertainment center, ipod dock station, playstation, and is ideal for indoor activities. She can accommodate 10-12 guests in one full width master stateroom, two double bedded cabins each having one extra single bed and two twin bedded cabins which can be easily converted to double beds (upon request), thus, making her the only 5 double bedded sailboat in the Greek market. She also has a nice selection of toys which include water ski (adult and children), tubes, inflatable canoes, wakeboard, fishing rod and snorkeling gear.
