A real riverboat cruise for Cincinnati visitors
We enjoyed this cruise. It's a little corny and certainly by no means luxurious, but the seating is comfortable, - there's lots of room to get a good view of the river. We took the 7 pm cruise, and skipped the dinner so we practically got the whole boat to ourselves until about 9 pm. It was very hot and muggy, but on the river there was a nice breeze - worth the price just for the air! Definitely something to do when in Cincinnati. Consult a map before driving over the bridge - it's tricky and not very well marked.
I have to admit, the whole cruise thing got off to a shaky start. When I made the reservation, at the the very end, they tacked on about a $12 processing fee. Rather annoying. Then, a day later, B&B called and wanted to "remind" me that my seat didn't have a window. Umm, you're not reminding someone when it's the first they've heard of it. That was disappointing news. Once we arrived, everyone boarding the boat is left standing in the heat for about 35 minutes (from the listed boarding time) before they finally start the loading. We arrived at 6, and finally at 6:45, we get on board. Of course, the first thing they did was take our picture... $20 if you want that keepsake. Seemed expensive for something they are just going to throw away anyway. The boat finally left the dock about 20 minutes after the stated departure time. The food was pretty good, but not great. About what you'd expect from a buffet on a boat. The same can be said of the mixed drinks - pretty good, but not great. The staff was very friendly and obliging. Our server and the DJ were terrific. I liked the way the staff treated various special occasions. The inside was nicely done with candles on the tables and balloons dotted about to mark special occasions being celebrated. The views of the city (which we had to leave our seat to see - not a big deal really) were great. The views on the return were particularly nice thanks to it being nighttime. The water provided a nice breeze which made being on the outside deck very pleasant. Once the ride was over, the line ensued and it took a long time to get off the boat. Another bottleneck that just seemed unnecessary. Overall, we had a good time, but there are several things B&B could easily done to make the whole experience much better.
A very disappointing experience. The food on the dinner cruise was very bad. The check in process was extremely inept and so slow it came close to ruining the whole experience. Avoid the 1st deck. It's basically like eating in the basement. No windows or view at all. The plus, Cincinnati is really pretty from the river.
We drove down from Columbus for the day, planning on a nice afternoon cruise on the Ohio River. First, BB Riverboats was very hard to find. Alot of construction in the area & signs were not posted clearly on how to get to this attraction. Second, we were planning on taking the 3pm-4:30pm cruise that is advertised on the BB Riverboats website. When we arrived, we were told that there was no afternoon cruise going out because it had been booked for an evening cruise. Very disappointed!! They told us that the web site says: "schedule can change; please call to verify cruise available that day" but I have since looked all over their website & could not find that policy statement. They also said if we had booked online, it would have shown that the cruise we wanted was not available that day. Also, BB Riverboats does not state on their website to check availability of cruise online - or even to call for availability. They mislead you into believing that the afternoon cruise runs every day in good weather! NOT THE CASE!!! So, we went on the "Ride the Ducks" tour which leaves from Newport on the Levee, and glad we did. Don't bother with this tour - do the Ducks instead!
We took the BB Riverboat Pirate themed cruise and the kids absolutely loved it. Missy (the head pirate) was very enthusiastic and appeared to love what she was doing. That always makes the kids more excited to. It was in the upper 90's that day. Despite the heat, Missy kept the kids entertained with games, songs, getting fake tatoos, face painting, a cool summer treat and a special treasure from the captains treasure chest at the end of the trip. I will say it was a bit overwhelming for me as a parent. Lots of kids and noise. Not really a sight seeing tour for the adults. I couldn't hear what the person was saying over the speaker above the kid noise. Overall, kids had a great time, but as an adult if you go on the Pirate themed cruise don't expect to hear much about the sights you see as you cruise down the river.
We went on the lunch cruise & had a great time. The service was great-everyone friendly and the food was very good also. Beautiful sights.
