Moorings Starts New Power Charter in Croatia

The Moorings just announced that it will have power catamarans for charter at its base in Dubrovnik, Croatia, this season, including The Moorings 403PC, recently named as European Boat of the Year in its multihull category.

That’s good news for power cruising enthusiasts, since the Adriatic coast off Dubrovnik offers some of the best cruising grounds in the world, with crystal-clear waters, secluded islands, white-sand beaches, and historic towns and villages that are all boater, and tourist, friendly.

Dubrovnik itself dates to the 7 th Century, and is often called the Pearl of the Adriatic. One of the largest tourist destinations in the Med, it has been named a UNESCO historic site for its medieval architecture and fortified old town. The walled old town involves an intricate system of forts, bastions and stone towers. The city has baroque churches, monasteries, and cobblestone streets; you can walk around and enjoy the view of the harbor and the surrounding islands.

From your charter boat, you can take a kayak around the coastline at sunset, or cruise to the blue cave at Lokrum, have a picnic on the hidden beach at Betina, or head for the harbor at Lopud, where the 98-foot-high bell tower of a Franciscan monastery serves as an ancient aid to navigation.

Life on The Moorings 403PC should be easy and comfortable. The cat is built by Robertson & Caine in South Africa, and it can hold six people in three cabins below; the master in one hull with its own head, and two in the other hull, sharing a head.

Wraparound windows in the salon provide lots of natural light, plus uninterrupted views outside. A door in the front opens to the foredeck, with a massive sunning space. The cat has a large, fully equipped galley, a genset for air conditioning underway, a water maker, grill and everything you need for a charter vacation.

It’s easy to drive, with two 320-hp Yanmar diesels providing the power. They’re widely spaced on the cat’s hull, so maneuvering is easy. Top speed is about 22 knots.

From June 2024, catamaran enthusiasts who don’t want to sail with their family or friends on the Adriatic coast in southern Croatia, but only want to motor, will have a great opportunity to do so. For the first time in its successful history, charter expert The Moorings is docking in Dubrovnik, Croatia, to meet the increased demand for motor yacht charters.

The historic film location of the fantasy saga Game of Thrones is expected to become the home port of a modern Powercat type 403PC by June 2024. On the completely redesigned motor catamaran, the crew glides comfortably, powerfully and yet fuel-efficiently across the turquoise sea through the mythical Croatian islands around Dubrovnik.

Plenty of space on board and high performance combined with environmentally friendly operation are the main features of the new Moorings 403PC, the charter version of the Leopard 40 from The Moorings. In 2023, the charter company introduced this type of boat in various areas around the world. Now the modern three-cabin yacht will also be available for yacht charters from Dubrovnik.

“Until now, The Moorings was only represented in Croatia in Agana, further north. The good global accessibility of Dubrovnik favored the decision of the charter company to expand its offer in this area,” says The Moorings. With the 403PC from the award-winning Robertson & Caine shipyard, The Moorings is bringing an innovative yacht to the charter market that meets the highest standards of comfort and performance.

The interior of this catamaran features elegant, high-quality fittings and finishes, from the fully equipped L-shaped galley to the three cabins, which offer plenty of space. The aft cockpit, aft deck and sun deck are also ideal for relaxing and spending time together. The more powerful 320 hp Yanmar engines instead of the standard 250 hp engines are designed to provide more fun on the waves without losing sight of the issue of environmental protection.

Desalination and filter systems for water treatment not only make the crew less dependent on supply facilities in marinas, but should also make a significant contribution to environmental protection if The Moorings have their way.

From Dubrovnik, the skipper and crew then have a choice: they can either head northwest along the coast and sail via Kolocep, Lopud, Sipan, Jaklian and Olpia to Peljesac (for example along the Stonski Canal to Ston / Mali Ston), take a trip west via Mljet, Lastovo and Korcula, or set off for southeast via Cavtat to Montenegro and pay a visit to Herceg-Novi, Tivat, the famous island of Gospa od Skrpjela (Mary of the Rock) or the old town of Kotor, which is well worth seeing.

Even for tourists with an affinity for water sports who simply want a room on the water in the immediate vicinity of the world-famous Old Town Peninsula Dubrovnik , chartering the new 403 PC motor catamaran from The Moorings may be a good – and inexpensive – alternative to comparable hotel rooms.

78 New Yachts Join The Moorings and Sunsail

The Moorings and its sister company, Sunsail, are powerhouses of the charter industry. Their bareboat and crewed offerings can be found all around the world, including the Americas, Caribbean, Mediterranean and more exotic locales such as the Seychelles, Tahiti, and Thailand. 

In the British Virgin Islands—long the most popular destination for bareboating—the company now has 19 new monohulls, 35 new sailing catamarans and 24 new powercats as part of its fleet. These 78 yachts reportedly have a combined value of $70 million, and bring the two brands’ combined number of boats to 254.

The company, in a press release, called the additions to the BVI fleet “a welcome influx of inventory in time for peak sailing season in the Caribbean and another step in the continuous renewal of the sister companies’ fleets.”

Also in response to increased demand, The Moorings and Sunsail have stepped up their hiring process. They’re already one of the largest employers in the Virgin Islands, with a workforce of 300 employees.

“As a business, we have invested heavily in our BVI operation,” Josie Tucci, vice president of sales and marketing for The Moorings and Sunsail, stated in a press release. “As the largest charter operator in the world’s most popular charter destination, we take great care to ensure a welcoming experience for our guests, and have gone to great lengths to maximize the guest experience through our marina revitalization project, and new fleet replenishment. Ultimately, our aim is to provide an unparalleled customer experience to the many thousands of visitors we welcome each year.”

According to the company, charter business in the British Virgin Islands has been experiencing annual double-digit growth. There are new direct flights to the islands out of Miami, landing at Tortola, with all expectations for another strong year in 2024.

The Moorings also has a base at St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands, with itineraries that explore around that island as well as St. John and St. Croix. Much like the British Virgin Islands, the U.S. Virgin Islands is a destination that’s well-suited for first-time charterers as well as returning veterans. As The Moorings says, “The smooth cruising conditions, combined with the sensational views, countless islands to explore, and laid-back island living make St Thomas one of the best destinations in the world to visit on a sailing vacation.”
