The 47.6m/156'2" motor yacht 'Lion' was built by Baglietto in Italy. Her interior is styled by Italian designer design house Francesco Paszkowski Design and she was delivered to her owner in September 2021. This luxury vessel's exterior design is the work of Francesco Paszkowski Design.

Guest Accommodation

Lion has been designed to comfortably accommodate up to 12 guests in 5 suites. She is also capable of carrying up to 9 crew onboard to ensure a relaxed luxury yacht experience.

Range & Performance

Lion is built with a steel hull and aluminium superstructure, with teak decks. Powered by twin diesel MTU (12V2000M72) engines, she comfortably cruises at 11 knots, reaches a maximum speed of 15 knots with a range of up to 4,500 nautical miles from her 80,000 litre fuel tanks at 12 knots. Her water tanks store around 15,000 Litres of fresh water. She was built to Lloyds Register classification society rules.

Baglietto 48m T-Line superyacht Lion delivered

Italian yard Baglietto has announced the delivery of its 48 metre superyacht Lion , previously known as hull 10233.

It comes after the yacht, which is the third hull in Baglietto’s displacement traditional line, hit the water for the first time on June 3. The construction of the yacht was overseen by Camper & Nicholsons, which also acted as the South American owner’s technical advisor.

The exterior design is penned by Francesco Paszkowski Desig n , which worked closely with the owner to make “stylistic and functional improvements” to Lion’s design in comparison to sisterships Andiamo and Silver Fox .

Designed in-house in collaboration with Leonardo Santi, the interior is defined by "sobriety, calmness and elegance," according to the yard. "Natural and warm colours of bronze and ochre" contrast with "soft shades of brown" throughout.

Built with a steel hull and aluminium superstructure, the yacht offers “impressive volumes and unique outside areas,” said the yard. The 140 square metre sun deck features a swimming pool at the stern surrounded by sunbeds, as well as a lunch area, with a coffee bar, barbecue and refrigerator. This area is directly connected to the galley via a dumb waiter.

Forward of the sun deck, there is a sunbathing area with 360-degree ocean views. A specific request from the owner has seen the inclusion of a crystal lift connecting all decks of the yacht, including the sun deck.

Lion features an upper deck layout that gives more space to the skylounge. This extends outside to create a winter garden and includes a dining table capable of seating 12 guests.

The lower deck layout meanwhile will have two large double cabins that can be transformed into four double cabins thanks to a sliding partition wall - this was another specific request from the owner.

The 46 square metre beach club meanwhile includes a spa with a fully equipped gym and steam bath. The tenders and two jet skis sit at the bow.

Power will come from twin MTU 12V2000M72 engines offering a maximum speed of 15 knots and a cruising speed of 11 knots.

Italian shipyard Baglietto has announced the launch of 48m/157ft luxury yacht LION on the 4th of June at its facilities in La Spezia.

The third hull in the Baglietto Displacement Traditional line, M/Y LION was known as HULL #10233 during construction and features exterior styling by Francesco Paszkowski . The steel hull and aluminium superstructure offer excellent stability and volume for guest amenities, including a 140m²/1507ft² sundeck which has a stern pool and sunbeds, and another sunbathing area forward.

The interiors come from the shipyard in-house team with Leonardo Santi acting as the Owner’s representative for selecting furnishings and decor. Ochre and bronze create a warm and harmonious setting in combination with dark glossy wood, neutral oak and floor-to-ceiling windows that let the sunshine pour in. The 42m²/452ft² beach club will be a favourite place to unwind or let off steam in the gym and spa.

Superyacht LION has several improvements over sister hulls ANDIAMO and SILVER FOX : The upper deck has a different layout to optimise the space in the sky lounge, and a semi-circular window blends the line between indoor and outdoor space with the creation of a winter garden for alfresco dining. The lower deck also has a modified layout, where two large cabins – which are essentially additional Master suites – can be divided into two to create four double en-suite cabins instead. Lastly, the Owner requested a crystal lift/elevator to connect all decks from the lower deck up to the sundeck.

For cruising, the MTU 12V 2000 M72 engines give 11 knots and a maximum speed of 15 knots.

Astonishing journey of over 160 years of heritage.

Pietro Baglietto started his dream  of founding the historic Shipyard. In the beginning, Baglietto specialized in small fishing boats, but then the Shipyard went into designing and building yachts.

The first racing boat sailed from the Shipyard. Baglietto built  Rosy , a 7.50-meter cutter created to become a legend.

Pope Leo XIII was gifted with La Barchetta , a boat commissioned to the Shipyard by a group of Genoese nobles. In the same year, the unbeatable  Iole  was built.

The Shipyard arrived first to another finish line. After being modified, the competition yacht  Miss Mary  became a regatta champion. The first one of a long series of winning streaks.

New Century: The Shipyard dropped the anchor for the construction of a legend

In 1906 the Shipyard built  Giuseppina , the most significant cruising yacht in Italy with an “explosion engine,” a length of 22.60 meters, and a weight of 33 tons. In the same year, the Shipyard began the construction of the first hydrofoil boat in the world.

Bernardo Baglietto succeeded to his father, Pietro.  The Baglietto legacy continues.

The Shipyards engaged in government orders. With the start of the First World War, the Shipyard adjusts its production line. Baglietto produces for the Marina Regia seaplanes and the  MAS , a sea-worthy anti-submarine armed motorboat. The name of this boat inspired D’Annunzio to write his motto, “Memento Audere Semper.”

Several pleasure boats built for outstanding personalities take off. Buyers include the Spanish King Alfonso XIII, Guglielmo Marconi, Umberto II, and even Puccini with his Cio Cio San, and D’Annunzio with Alcyone.

From Vittorio Baglietto’s hand comes La Spina,  the first 12-meter yacht ever built in Italy. It was known for its detailed finishes and the cutting-edge technology used onboard.

The legendary MAS breaks another record , 50 knots of speed. The boat project was reviewed to improve its performance and technology onboard.

Baglietto, an evolving Shipyard. Thanks to the collaboration with the Italian army, the Seagull brand makes a vital technology evolution.  Caroly , a 22.6-meter yawl, is an example.

Pietro Baglietto Junior arrives to guide the Shipyard on a new route. Like his grandfather, Pietro, and his uncle, Pietro Junior was passionate about design. He signs  RORC Lanzerota , a III class boat, elegant with a cutting-edge look.

Baglietto keeps winning  with Twins VI wins the “Coppa d’Italia” in Helsinki and then in Genova. With Twins II triumphs in Sandhamn (Sweden), gaining the “Coppa Oro,” and the “Coppa di Francia” in Gineva.

New production techniques. Baglietto introduces marine plywood and develops new production techniques. An emblematic case is that of the Flying Bridge: a crucial structural innovation that allows shipowners and his/her guests to take full advantage of the boat’s roof, and it increases performance.

TOWARD NEW HORIZONS: THE ALUMINUM YEARS The vessels’ performance improves thanks to the technology onboard and better design. The motor yacht  Chato  (26 meters) with water jet propulsion, reaches 62.50 knots of speed; and the  18-meter ,  16.50 meter , and  20-meter   numerical   series  yachts are also equipped with cutting-edge technological solutions such as hydrodynamics and planning hulls that guarantee fantastic performance.

THE FUTURE BEGINS: THE LARGE YACHTS.

From the pencil of Aldo Chichero, two boats that defined the concept of “series” for Baglietto were born. A production cured in the smallest details, which makes each piece unique.

The  Maffy Blue  model was launched in 1991; it measures 33 meters and reaches 30 knots of speed. It is a mega yacht with very luxurious interiors, an attractive design, and strong, sleek lines.

Two years later,  Alba  (30 meters) set sail from the Baglietto Shipyard. Alba has the same style and production that is now adopted.

Francesco Paszkowski designs  Opus , the first open yacht of 29 meters that can reach 40 knots. It is the beginning of a happy collaboration that continues today.

Baglietto acquires Cantieri Ferrari, based in La Spezia, and faces a new period of renewal and an increase in production capacity. Paszkowski designs the 30-meter yacht  Charly Boy  and, in 2001,  Thunderball , the first 34-meter of the “Fast Yacht” series.

Models like  RC  were built in 2004 for Roberto Cavalli designed by Tommaso Spadolini and  Tatiana per sempre.  The 34-meter  Blue Princess  (2005) and the 42-meter  Blue Scorpion  were delivered the following year. Together with  Bolaro, Apache II, Gitana,  and  Baraka .

SAILING FOR TOMORROW. In 2012, Baglietto Shipyard was acquired by the Gavio family, one of the most solid industrial family groups in Italy. The acquisition propelled a new journey for the Shipyard.

New modification of Russian VVER-440 fuel loaded at Paks NPP in Hungary

DECEMBER 14, 2020 — After the recent refueling at power unit 3 of the Hungarian Paks NPP, its VVER-440 reactor has been loaded with a batch of fresh fuel including 18 fuel bundles of the new modification. The new fuel will be introduced at all four operating power units of the Paks NPP, and the amount of new-modification bundles in each refueling will be increased gradually.

Development of the new VVER-440 fuel modification was completed in 2020 under the contract between TVEL JSC and MVM Paks NPP Ltd. Its introduction would optimize the hydro-uranium ratio in the reactor core, enabling to increase the efficiency of fuel usage and advance the economic performance of the power plant operation. All VVER-440 fuel modifications are manufactured at the Elemash Machine-Building Plant, a facility of TVEL Fuel Company in Elektrostal, Moscow Region.

“Introduction of a new fuel is an option to improve technical and economic performance of a nuclear power plant without substantial investment. We are actively engaged in development of new models and modifications of VVER-440 fuel for power plants in Europe. The projects of the new fuels for Loviisa NPP in Finland, Dukovany NPP in the Czech Republic, Mochovce and Bohunice NPPs in Slovakia, are currently at various stages of implementation. Despite the same reactor model, these projects are quite different technically and conceptually, since we take into account the individual needs and requirements of our customers,” commented Natalia Nikipelova, President of TVEL JSC.

The project of development and validation of the new fuel has been accomplished with participation of a number of Russian nuclear industry enterprises, such as OKB Gidropress (a part of Rosatom machine-building division Atomenergomash), Bochvar Institute (material science research facility of TVEL Fuel Company), Elemash Machine-building plant and Kurchatov Institute national research center. At the site of OKB Gidropress research and experiment facility, the new fuel passed a range of hydraulic, longevity and vibration tests.

Paks NPP is the only functioning nuclear power plant in Hungary with total installed capacity 2000 MWe. It operates four similar units powered by VVER-440 reactors and commissioned one by one in 1982-1987. Currently, Paks NPP is the only VVER-440 plant in the world operating in extended 15-monthes fuel cycle. The power plant produces about 15 bln kWh annually, about a half of electric power generation in Hungary. In 2018, the project of increasing the duration of Paks NPP fuel cycle won the European competition Quality Innovation Award in the nomination “Innovations of large enterprises”. Russian engineers from TVEL JSC, Kurchatov Institute, OKB Gidropress, Bochvar Institute and Elemash Machine-building plant provided assistance to the Hungarian colleagues in accomplishment of the project.

  TVEL Fuel Company of Rosatom incorporates enterprises for the fabrication of nuclear fuel, conversion and enrichment of uranium, production of gas centrifuges, as well as research and design organizations. It is the only supplier of nuclear fuel for Russian nuclear power plants. TVEL Fuel Company of Rosatom provides nuclear fuel for 73 power reactors in 13 countries worldwide, research reactors in eight countries, as well as transport reactors of the Russian nuclear fleet. First refuelling for Russia’s Akademik Lomonosov floating NPP

The FNPP includes two KLT-40S reactor units. In such reactors, nuclear fuel is not replaced in the same way as in standard NPPs – partial replacement of fuel once every 12-18 months. Instead, once every few years the entire reactor core is replaced with and a full load of fresh fuel.

The KLT-40S reactor cores have a number of advantages compared with standard NPPs. For the first time, a cassette core was used, which made it possible to increase the fuel cycle to 3-3.5 years before refuelling, and also reduce by one and a half times the fuel component in the cost of the electricity produced. The operating experience of the FNPP provided the basis for the design of the new series of nuclear icebreaker reactors (series 22220). Currently, three such icebreakers have been launched.

The Akademik Lomonosov was connected to the power grid in December 2019, and put into commercial operation in May 2020.

Electricity generation from the FNPP at the end of 2023 amounted to 194 GWh. The population of Pevek is just over 4,000 people. However, the plant can potentially provide electricity to a city with a population of up to 100,000. The FNPP solved two problems. Firstly, it replaced the retiring capacities of the Bilibino Nuclear Power Plant, which has been operating since 1974, as well as the Chaunskaya Thermal Power Plant, which is more than 70 years old. It also supplies power to the main mining enterprises located in western Chukotka. In September, a 490 km 110 kilovolt power transmission line was put into operation connecting Pevek and Bilibino.

Rosatom Starts Production of Rare-Earth Magnets for Wind Power Generation

TVEL Fuel Company of Rosatom has started gradual localization of rare-earth magnets manufacturing for wind power plants generators. The first sets of magnets have been manufactured and shipped to the customer.

In total, the contract between Elemash Magnit LLC (an enterprise of TVEL Fuel Company of Rosatom in Elektrostal, Moscow region) and Red Wind B.V. (a joint venture of NovaWind JSC and the Dutch company Lagerwey) foresees manufacturing and supply over 200 sets of magnets. One set is designed to produce one power generator.

“The project includes gradual localization of magnets manufacturing in Russia, decreasing dependence on imports. We consider production of magnets as a promising sector for TVEL’s metallurgical business development. In this regard, our company does have the relevant research and technological expertise for creation of Russia’s first large-scale full cycle production of permanent rare-earth magnets,” commented Natalia Nikipelova, President of TVEL JSC.
