This Chicago businessman who started selling luxury car mats after taking a second mortgage on his home now owns this stunning 188-foot W superyacht. Designed to be the most playful luxury vessel, it has an inflatable dock, a giant water slide, laser sailboats, and even a climbing wall.

W, for wow, wonderful, and wondrous!

Superyachts are all super. They are tools that guarantee a good time away from prying eyes and done-to-death onshore destinations. It took the able hands and minds of Feadship a mere 10 months to transform the ship from Larisa to the full pedigree W. The new avatar was highlighted with the addition of a massive Jacuzzi on the sun deck and several upgrades to the interior layout.

Who owns the W superyacht?

Businessman and risk-taker David MacNeil started WeatherTech out of his home in Clarendon Hills, Illinois, in 1989. His multimillion-dollar company sold car mats after he was dissatisfied with the quality of existing automotive floor mats. The 55-year-old business owner turned his enterprise into a success by 2018 with $400 million a year in sales, with profits soaring upward of $100 million. He was among the first few to defy the odds by running a company solely based in America and to make a mark splurging $4 million for a 2014 Super Bowl ad. “It was an evolutionary step and an investment in our future in branding the WeatherTech name and getting it out to all of America,” said MacNeil. “And it helped us get across a message that is near and dear to me: the importance of U.S. manufacturing, our industrial infrastructure, using American raw materials, and hiring American workers.”

WeatherTech founder and CEO David MacNeil has purchased a $38.5 million beachfront mansion in Manalapan, Florida , complete with spectacular waterfront views, two pools and his own private putting green.

His new 10,344 square foot home is situated in a gated community and boasts six bedrooms, six bathrooms and meticulously manicured grounds with a healthy number of palm trees to provide shade.

MacNeil, his three children and whomever else he decides to entertain at his two-acre property will be able to enjoy the beach from his backyard dipping pool. Or they can sun tan in front of the other pool, which sits in the front yard right near the putting green.

The chief executive of the automotive-accessories retailer bought the ocean and lakefront property through an Illinois  limited liability company referred to as Whiskey Tango 1120.

Whiskey Tango 1120 is an Illinois company that has a post office address in Fort Lauderdale. The same address is listed under MacNeil's name, according to business records.

Gary Pohrer and Nick Malinosky of Douglas Elliman Real Estate represented the sellers in the transaction.

The home was built in 1955, and has almost 200 feet wide stretch of oceanfront land as well as another 200 feet of intracoastal land. The intracoastal side has a dock, according to the Zillow listing .

The two-story home, complete with multiple balconies and a wine room, is close to Delray Beach and Palm Beach, which are areas known for fine dining and shopping.

The interior of the home is almost all white, including the living room furniture, the kitchen, and the dining area.

Nearly all the rooms that are shown in the listing have a view out to the ocean, including one of the bedrooms and a small dining nook, both of which have expansive bay windows.

MacNeil's agent for this purchase was luxury real estate guru Tim Elmes from Compass.

Elmes, who has recorded over $2 billion in sales , was MacNeil's listing agent in a Fort Lauderdale Beach property he sold for $40 million in October 2023.

The 13,000-square-foot home was custom-built on land MacNeil bought for $3 million in 2018 , the Wall Street Journal reported at the time it sold last year.

MacNeil is quite active in the Florida real estate market, buying and flipping properties often. And as the founder of WeatherTech, he has amassed a net worth of around $1 billion, which allows him to be the big player he is.

On top of selling the Fort Lauderdale Beach property in October, MacNeil unloaded another jewel of his sprawling portfolio of homes in December 2023.

This time it was a stunning, seven-bedroom home  located in Pebble Beach, California, listing it for $39 million. It also had a putting green similar to the house he now owns in Manalapan.

MacNeil listed his Pebble Beach home for $39 million. The entire house is roughly 7,500 square feet

After renovating the California residence substantially, MacNeil said he wanted to find a good family to occupy it.

MacNeil told Mansion Global  at the time: 'If I keep it, phenomenal. I love it. On the other side of the coin, let's see if we can find a great family that wants to live in this house. It's a phenomenal house and it deserves a great family.'

MacNeil founded WeatherTech in 1989. He started the company out of his home in Clarendon Hills, Illinois, after he was 'dissatisfied with the quality of existing automotive floor mats.'

At first, the mats were being imported from England, but MacNeil soon decided to move all production to the US in 2007, and opened facilities in the suburbs of Chicago.

The automotive maps are custom made to fit any make and model of a car and are meant to keep your car clean from dirt, snow and virtually any mess.

Each mat is made with 'advanced rubber-like' material known as Thermoplastic Elastomer, and are 100 percent recyclable.
