Luna Inspired Street Food takes the helm at Ithaca Yacht Club’s restaurant

ITHACA, NY — Summers on Cayuga Lake are about to get a lot tastier: Luna Catering, of Luna Inspired Street Food, is taking over the food program at the Ithaca Yacht Club.

“It’s a good fit for us because we’re a growing company, we’re doing really, really cool inventive food, and the food and beverage was ready for a refresher,” said Kevin Sullivan, Luna’s owner.

Sullivan’s energy and enthusiasm to engage with Ithaca beyond Collegetown seems boundless as of late, as Luna recently announced it will open another Luna location on Aurora St. in the former space of Jade Garden.

With the new locations, Sullivan said he looks forward to keeping staff employed year-round, and being more a part of the surrounding community at events like Ithaca Fest, GrassRoots, and now at IYC.

At IYC, Luna will be doing a complete menu overhaul and introducing longer restaurant hours. (The beverage service will continue to be operated by IYC.)

The new menu hosts a variety of shareables, “baskets” (burgers and sandwiches), salads and full entrees. The price point is expected to be between ~$10 and $20.

Luna’s touch is most transparently seen in the shareables section, where sweet potato and kale tacos, charred street corn, and dueling mac n’ cheese made the jump from Stewart Ave.

A robust variety of salads, including blackberry spinach and Mediterranean salads, rounds out a selection of five burgers, and other sandwich specialties like grilled lamb gyros, and fried haddock sandwiches, all served with a pickle, and a choice of chips, fries or side salad.

Classic entree plates include New York strip steak, chicken piccata, Jail Island salmon, crab cakes, and more.

In addition, Luna’s arrival also coincides with the re-opening of The Jib, a casual concession menu.

“There’s a lot of people who would remember it if they went to the Yacht Club as kids,” said Sullivan. “Twenty years ago, it was like the spot.”

On the south side of the building, The Jib will serve the likes of burgers and fresh cut fries, chicken tenders, novelty ice cream and milkshakes: the foodstuffs of summer.

While you do have to be an IYC member to eat at The Jib and the restaurant at the IYC, there are often open membership events and tours available for prospective members.

“Their slogan is ‘It’s your cottage!’ by the lake,” he said. “It’s got a great swimming area, there’s lifeguards on duty, there’s a fire pit. It’s a beautiful area, there’s a lot of different amenities.”

Mother’s Day brunch will be the opening day for the new Luna-IYC collaboration, and it also is an event open to non-members .

The Board of Directors and Members of the Ithaca Yacht Club extend a warm welcome to members of the Lake Ontario Club Cruisers Association.

The Ithaca Yacht Club, located on the western shore of Cayuga Lake, is offering full use of our clubhouse facilities, which includes our dining room, pub, and deck. Eight transient slips with water and electricity are available at the fixed wooden piers to the North of Glenwood Point.  These slips can accommodate boats up to 60′ in length with ample depth for sailboats.  We offer free docking the first and second night. Additional nights are at a rate of $2 per boat foot.

Keeping Your Boat at the Club

The Ithaca Yacht Club has a range of options for members' boats, either afloat or on land. If you want to keep your boat at the club, contact the Harbormaster.  Only the Harbormaster can assign slips and members should not allow others to use their slips without permission.  For more information, click one of the buttons below.

Marina The fully equipped marina has slips for boats up to 48 ft. in length.

Moorings The moorings at the South Docks are suitable for boats up to 24 ft.

Small Boat Lifts Lifts for jets skis and small boats can be installed on the North Docks.

Boats on Trailers Boats on trailers are stored and launched in the hoist area at the South Docks.

Dinghies Dinghies are stored in the small craft area.

Canoes, Kayaks, Boards & Lockers Kayaks, canoes, paddleboards and sailboards are stored in the small craft area. Lockers are available at no charge.

Winter Storage

Winter storage at the club is available for boats in the marina, boats on trailers in the hoist area, and kayaks, canoes, paddleboards,and sailboards on raised racks in the small craft area.  Other boats should be removed from the club during the winter.
