Meet clemens.

Originally from the Netherlands where Clemens completed a degree in Hotel Management and enjoyed 2 years of seatime with the Royal Dutch Marines around the Caribbean, it comes as no surprise Clemens entered the marine industry when he arrived in Australia in 1999.

Through his role as Marina Manager, and later Regional Manager Sydney Harbour Clemens experienced the different use expectations from boat owners. Utilising his experience in hospitality, Clemens successfully used social events to enhance the interaction with his boating clients and create a  sense of community and loyalty. This client loyalty was a key aspect during the subsequent 2 marina developments.

 In 2016 Clemens joined the team at the Sydney Superyacht Marina to complete the foreshore development that had already commenced and again realign the marine configuration to cater for the increased yacht sizes. The Sydney Superyacht Marina offers 35 berths, of which 18 berth cater for yachts from 30m+ with the largest single berth catering for a 70m yacht. The Sydney Superyacht Marina is located in Rozelle, a quiet bay with deep water access and good foreshore amenities just 10 minutes from Sydney’s CBD, Harbour Bridge and Opera House.  

 Clemens is a Certified Marina Manager since 2007, and contributes to the Marine industry through his involvement as Chair of the Education Committee at the Marina Industries Association (MIA) . Clemens is also a Board Member of the Global Marine Industries (GMI) since 2022.

Superyacht marina in Sydney to undergo $30M redevelopment

A marina in Sydney is set to undergo a 30 million Australian dollar redevelopment in order to attract more superyachts. Sydney Superyacht Marina in Rozelle has been given permission by the NSW Department of Planning and Environment to double the amount of berths at the site.

As well as increasing the number of berths from 24 to 43 the development will also see the creation of a new yacht club, several new restaurants and cafes and 7000sqm of marine retail and marine commercial space.

The marina was first built to accommodate visiting superyachts during the Sydney Olympic Games 16 years ago. The marina has seen a surge in the number of superyachts visiting Sydney since then.

“Demand for the superyacht industry is growing and it has been growing steadily since the Olympics in 2000 when we built the marina,” Brian James, chairman of Sydney Superyacht Marina, said.

“A large part of the superyachts in Sydney are domestic; we have domestic owners and we have a percentage which are international visitors from the Mediterranean, the Caribbean and from Asia, in fact from all over the world.”

This demand for superyacht berths has also been seen elsewhere in the city. Last year  Spit Marina in Sydney also announced it was undergoing an expansion to attract more superyachts . There are also currently  plans for a new marina in Berry's Bay in Sydney .

The development plans in Rozelle were objected to by some local residents on the grounds that it would create noise pollution and the fact it was built as a temporary facility on public land and should be returned to the public. Despite 137 objections out of 148 public submissions over the plans, the NSW government has still approved the development.

The developers have tried to reassure residents that the plans are simply making more effective use of the current facilities.

“There is no development creep,” Mr James said. “We are being more efficient about the use of the water area — it has not grown from that which our clients currently enjoy.”

Sydney Superyacht Marina

The marina continues to be Sydney’s premier superyacht marina, with over 200 superyachts enjoying its facilities since 1999. It is equipped with all the facilities one would expect from a world-class marina.

Created specifically to cater for demand generated in the lead up to the Millennium celebrations and Sydney 2000 Olympic Games, the marina now stands as a post Olympic legacy for superyachts visiting Sydney and wishing to moor securely in a facility located in a well protected bay close to the city.

The marina has infrastructure that allows even some of the largest superyachts to connect to abundant shorepower, sewage pump out, modern cable TV and wireless internet.

Marina Facilities

Each of the 24 berths is provided with shore power (380/415V, 3 phase, 50Hz, 32~400 Amps), up to 5 telephone lines, cable television, fresh water, vacuum assisted sewage pumpout and forward ground moorings for stern-to berthing. The marina has Wireless Broadband Internet service available.

Provisioning and Support Services

Sydney boasts an excellent array of local and imported produce and beverages. A number of top quality wholesalers experienced in vessel provisioning are located conveniently near the marina. The staff can assist in making arrangements for provisions or any other support services you may require, such as car rental, laundering, dry cleaning, travel arrangements, postage and courier services.

Vessel Services

Australia is a provider of premium marine products and services. Marina staff can assist in arranging services such as crane, forklift, truck and car rental, as well as equipment servicing, repairs, refits, construction, chandlery and refuelling. Sydney has a number of superyacht refit facilities capable of servicing and hauling out large superyachts.

Campbells Cove Circular Quay

The Sydney Superyacht Marina team also manages the Campbells Cove berthing facility, which is rapidly earning a reputation as one of the most picturesque and iconic superyacht berths in the world, nestled between the iconic Opera House and Harbour Bridge.

The recently opened Campbells Cove facility has already developed an enviable global reputation as a high quality and unsurpassable location in which to berth. Nestled on the western side of Sydney Cove, Circular Quay, and adjacent to Australia’s top hotel, the Park Hyatt Sydney, the berth affords magnificent unbroken views of the main harbour and is about five minutes walk from the centre of Sydney. The hotel considers superyachts berthed there as ‘guests’ within their hotel during their stay and as such, provides them access to all the 5 Star services and facilities that this premier hotel has to offer.

Ideally suited for large sailing superyachts that have a rig greater than 50 metres above the waterline and are thus too tall to fit under the Sydney Harbour Bridge, Campbells Cove is the front row seat for Sydney’s famous New Year’s Eve Fireworks display.

Sydney’s Superyacht Marina Confirms $30M Development

Sydney Superyacht Marina in Rozelle is to undergo a AUD 30 million re-development in order to attract more luxury yachts to the city and the east coast of Australia .

Approved by the NSW Department of Planning and Environment, the plans will see the number of berths at the superyacht marina in Sydney increase from 24 to 43 as well as the creation of an exclusive yacht club, several new eateries, and 7,000 square metres of retail and commercial space.

The marina was originally built to host visiting superyachts during the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games, but has since experienced a rise in the number of yachts visiting the city.

Brain James, Chairman of Sydney Superyacht Marina, said: “Demand for the superyacht industry is growing and it has been growing steadily since the Olympics in 2000 when we built the marina.

“A large part of the superyachts in Sydney are domestic; we have a percentage which are international visitors from the Mediterranean, the Caribbean and from Asia, in fact from all over the world.”

Sydney is gradually emerging as a top superyacht destination, with an expansion planned for Spit Marina  too and the creation of a new 34-berth marina at Berry’s Bay.

Indeed, Sydney Harbour is a beautiful meandering waterway, home to the iconic landmarks of the Sydney Opera House and Sydney Harbour Bridge, and surrounded by miles and miles of idyllic beaches and coves, national parks and other historic sites.

The harbour is also a gateway to reach other parts of the city such as Manly, Watsons Bay and Taronga Zoo, and step on land to experience Sydney’s vibrant, cosmopolitan vibe, plethora of restaurants and bars, green spaces, museums and art galleries, and the famous Bondi Beach.

Australia ’s east coast is also home to the spectacular Great Barrier Reef and exquisite Whitsunday Islands, meaning the country offers myriad luxury yacht charter opportunities.

Our journey to setting the top of the australian yachting industry.

Where It All Began

In 2008, Cooper Chapman, founder and Managing Director of Chapman Yachting, conceived Chapman Yacht Management. Cooper found there to be a lack of yacht management and service facilities in the Australian marine industry that could offer motor yacht owners and operators a true one-stop solution for operating and maintaining their yacht. He decided then to create this reality.

Today, 14 years on, Chapman Yachting has grown to be the longest established yacht management and all-inclusive yachting company in Australia. The company hosts a range of in-house services including Yacht Management & Service, Crew Recruitment, Yacht Charter and Sales which is backed by a team of specialist, industry experienced staff.

The Chapman Heritage

The Chapman name first appeared on Australia’s boating scene in the early 1980s. Mark Chapman housed a team of several marine engineers in one of the largest Marine Sales and Service Centres on Sydney Harbour.

From that time on, the “Chapman” name grew rapidly and achieved success in building some of the fastest high performance powerboats in Australia throughout the late 80s and early 90s. During this period, Chapman proudly held the agency for the iconic Wellcraft and Scarab performance boats.

Joining Forces with Industry Leading brands

In the early 2000’s, Chapman Marine joined forces with Princess Motor Yachts. Between 2000 and 2007, the company sold in excess of 37 Princess Yachts and numerous brokerage boats. Chapman’s profile continued to grow. In addition, the company took on representation of some of the most well-known brands around the world, including Fairline Motor Yachts, Chris Craft, Riva Yachts, Regal Sport Boats, Wellcraft and the iconic Cigarette Racing offshore power boat brand. Sales during this period proudly included approximately 45 Chris Crafts, 14 Fairline Yachts and hundreds of smaller sports cruisers and brokerage vessels.

Completing a full-circle service offering

In 2017, Debbie Leenderts joined the company as a partner and became Head of Charter and Recruitment. Mark Chapman, Founder of Chapman Marine Group also joined the company in 2021 as Sales Director. This move by Chapman Yachting would complete the full-circle yacht service offering for the group. Drawing on a wealth of experience from Debbie on private and busy Superyachts throughout the Mediterranean, Croatia, Caribbean, The Bahamas and America, she began to further build the Chapman brand in the Australian Superyacht industry, offering a true end-to-end solution for yacht owners with charter & crew services. The appointment of Mark Chapman as sales director, renowned as one of the industry’s most trusted and leading brokers is set to see chapman lead the way in luxury yacht and superyacht sales

Chapman Yachting Today

Today, Chapman Yachting is situated in two prime locations on Sydney Harbour: the well-known Sydney Superyacht Marina, Rozelle which houses our Sales, Charter and Recruitment teams, and an office and service facility at the prestigious Rose Bay and Point Piper Marinas, which houses our Yacht Management and Service divisions.

Beneath the Chapman banner we currently manage and service over 36 yachts full-time, have made over 500 sales transactions in the last decade, booked in excess of 1200 commercial yacht charters, and placed over 120 yacht crew nationwide and globally, in addition to hosting a range of specialist on-water events across Sydney and Australia.
