Meet the AirYacht, a Bonkers Superyacht-Blimp Hybrid Concept That Can Cruise Both Sea and Sky

AirYacht may not have the most original moniker, but the new concept is undeniably inventive.
Envisioned by Guillaume Hoddé and Matthieu Ozanne, the new two-in-one vessel comprises a luxe 197-foot superyacht and a giant 656-foot blimp that together enable cruising in either the skies or seas. The Swiss outfit that created it, which is also called AirYacht, says the two vessels can also be separated and used independently for even more versatility.

The detachable balloon, known as the “airship,” is currently powered by a hybrid propulsion system, though the team hopes it will run exclusively on hydrogen in the future. With space for three crew, it can reportedly reach 50 knots at full tilt and fly up to roughly 9,800 feet above the ground. It also has an autonomous cruising time of around one week, according to the firm.
The AirYacht’s “lift” can deploy the superyacht without the airship needing to land (photo at top). When flying, the yacht is pulled into to the bottom of the blimp to become its passenger cabin. Darnet Design/AirYacht
The adjoining superyacht, or “residence” as the designers call it, sports an aerodynamic hull crafted entirely from ultra-lightweight carbon to ensure it soars seamlessly through air or water. Spread across three levels, the living quarters span roughly 8,000 square feet and can accommodate up to 12 guests in a five or six-cabin layout. There are also amenities aplenty, including a Jacuzzi, pool, spa, gym, helipad and a garage for cars, toys and tenders.
Interestingly, the yacht itself doesn’t sport any engines as they add too much weight. As such, it will rely on the airship to get around. Hoddé told Robb Report the residence can be tugged by the airship when in water.
As for separating the two individual vessels, the AirYacht is equipped with an innovative launch system, or “lift”, which allows the superyacht to be gently lowered (or raised) without the airship ever needing to touch the ground.
The salon inside the superyacht. Darnet Design/AirYacht
Penned by Franck Darnet of Darnet Design, the AirYacht is not to be confused with Lazzarini’s bonkers flying superyacht concept of the same name. (As we said, the moniker isn’t exactly original.) There are similarities, though; both yachts are powered by helium blimps and can take to the sky or sea.
AirYacht says orders are now open and the first delivery is planned for the end of 2026.

Motor Yacht
Air has an exceptionally sleek and elegant exterior with modern lines, while also incorporating a distinctive Feadship flared bow. She is the first superyacht built under Annex 2 of LY2 to have a fully certified commercial helicopter pad. This requirement represented a major challenge in terms of styling, and the designers at De Voogt Naval Architects have achieved something very special indeed by ensuring that Air’s elongated aft deck remains in perfect proportion to the rest of the giant yacht. Meanwhile, her unique matt black hull has been painted with a specialised and environmentally friendly nano coating technique.
A highly sophisticated minimalistic design makes for a stunning interior. Main materials used include matt-finished sycamore, leather, matt-finished special paint, high gloss stainless steel, palladium leaf, back-lit white onyx, off-white & black limestone and a wealth of carve glass.
An undoubted highlight in terms of the luxury spaces is the owners’ observation lounge with a breathtaking vista over the eight-metre long pool on the vast main deck forward area. Great views are also assured from the magnificent sun deck, which offers many relaxation options such as a gym, lounging areas aft and forward with Jacuzzi, and a 102” pop-up television screen for outdoor movie viewing. Air carries two 9.8-metre tenders in dedicated and fully enclosed bays. There is also a large foldable swimming platform with bar from which to watch the world go by. Air is exclusively available for charter via IYR (International Yacht Register) and the Feadship charter division.

The World’s First “Air Yacht” Would Sail in the Sky and Sea (With Zero Emissions)
By Jessica Cherner
Yachts and private planes make for luxurious ways to zip from one place to another, but recently, a businessman based in Germany and Italian designer Pierpaolo Lazzarini discovered what happens when they combine boats and jets: the ultra-sleek sky yacht. Equipped with eight counter-rotating electric engines powered by super-lightweight batteries and solar panels, the nearly 500-foot-long yacht can traverse the sky (and sea) at 60 knots for more than two days straight with zero emissions. Plus, aside from its full-electric mobility, the air yacht is sustainable in other ways too: It will be built entirely from carbon fiber, which is as high-strength as it is lightweight.
The 500-foot futuristic vessel comprises three main parts: a central compartment with a living room and dining area flanked by two inflatable helium blimps that house 10 suites.
Lazzarini’s design looks like something out of the future: a spacious living room and dining area housed within the sky yacht’s central torpedo-shaped structure that’s connected via eight carbon bridges (four on each side) to two 150-foot-long blimps. And the blimps that contain a whopping 14,125,867 cubic feet of helium that keep the vessel high in the sky, flanking the main compartment, aren’t just there to elevate the jet: Between the two, there are 10 guest suites, all of which boast 360-degree views.
The two balloon-like compartments on either side of the impressive vessel comprise an inflatable base that allows the innovative machine to float atop the water surface when the owner is in the mood to sail the sea versus the sky. Though being able to choose which medium makes the most sense for specific destinations sounds like an ideal way to travel, the sky yacht is, unfortunately, still quite a ways off from replacing typical ships and planes.
The enormous sky yacht is too big to simply park at a marina while its guests climb aboard, so it comes equipped with a retractable staircase.
For the private owner who commissioned the estimated $627,511,500 sky yacht, however, his new mode of transportation is the way of the future. In fact, Lazzarini has promised that a first-scale model prototype will lift into the air later this year, and a collection of slightly varying designs (of different lengths) is currently in the early phases of both engineering and prototyping. So, perhaps we’ll all be passengers onboard a boat that flies before the end of the decade.

The vessel could “fly” for up to 48 hours at a top speed of 60 knots.
Is it a boat? Is it a plane? Well, folks, Lazzarini ’s futuristic new concept is a bit of both.
The disruptive design studio, which routinely delivers extreme marine creations, has just unveiled a flying superyacht called Air Yacht that looks as though it’s come straight from a sci-fi flick. The vessel’s tech is at the bleeding edge, too, with helium being the main source of fuel.
Made from carbon fiber, the Air Yacht has one main 262-foot hull sandwiched between a pair of 492-foot airships. These two “floating balloons,” as Lazzarini describes them, will be divided into hives to store helium gas. Think of it as a superyacht with two blimps that can lift it to the skies.
The Air Yacht can either fly or sail. Lazzarini Design
The Italian outfit hasn’t gone into too much detail regarding how this propulsion actually works but says the compressed helium allows the Air Yacht to “fly” for up to 48 hours at a top speed of 60 knots. The cruiser is also equipped with eight counter-rotating electric engines powered by ultra-light batteries and solar panels. This setup enables the yacht to sail on the water at 5 knots with no noise or pollution.
“With the Air Yacht, there is a way to sail the sky without emissions damaging the future,” the studio said in a statement.
Lazzarini assures the vessel packs all the features of a typical luxury yacht as well. The central hull comprises a large dining area and living room, along with the master cabin which offers a large ensuite and sprawling panoramic views. To top it off, this hull features a helipad and swimming pool on the roof.
The futuristic superyacht still is equipped with a swimming pool, of course. Lazzarini Design
The two accompanying airships, meanwhile, can be accessed via four separate bridges and each offer five ensuite staterooms with expansive windows to take in the vistas when in flight.
As for who will pilot the Air Yacht, Lazzarini says the vessel is not intended for “touristic purposes.”
The interior of the Air Yacht is fittingly modern. Lazzarini Design
“It’s for a private owner who wants both a superyacht and evolution in aviation,” the studio adds.
Like all of Lazzarini’s creations, from the swan-shaped megayacht to the 276-foot superyacht with a giant hole in the superstructure, the Air Yacht will remain a concept until somebody chooses to make it a reality.

The flying superyacht powered by helium takes luxury to new heights
- Designed by Lazzarini, the Air Yacht can fly at speeds of up to 70 mph for 48 hours
- It has living accommodation for up to 22 people
- It also has a helipad, and a swimming pool on the top deck

Lazzarini certainly know how to rock the boat (pun intended) when it comes to disrupting the yacht industry.
But this is something else entirely.
This is a superyacht that can also fly.
READ MORE: Inside the multimillion-dollar superyacht with a giant HOLE in the middle of it
Lazzarini, an Italian design studio that specializes in outrageous yacht concepts, has created outstanding concepts in the past, but this is something else.
Their latest creation is called the ‘Air Yacht’.
As the name suggests it’s a yacht, but it’s also an aircraft.
The main hull is connected to two 150-meter airships powered by helium.
In ‘flight mode’, the two airships fill up with helium and the yacht takes off.
In theory, according to Lazzarini , the Air Yacht can travel at speeds of up to 60 knots (70 mph / 112 km/h) for 48 hours.
The Air Yacht is designed to be a bona fide luxury ship, too.
It has large dining areas and living spaces, and it can provide accommodation to 22 people in 11 cabins, not including crew.
It even has a helipad, and of course a swimming pool on the top deck.
For now, the Air Yacht is just a design concept but it could, at least in theory, be built in the future.
After all, we already have hydroplanes and seaplanes and, conceptually, this isn’t too different.
One of the key issues would be the cost, though.
Building a prototype that works and is safe to operate would cost eight figures at least.
Hopefully some billionaire will step up and finance the prototype.
A variety of crazy projects that are perceived to be impossible are already being financed as we speak.
Saudi Arabia, for example, is working on a wild turtle-shaped floating city that’s also a yacht.
And more importantly, they’re investing $1 trillion on The Line – the futuristic city in the desert that looks like a horizontal skyscraper.
This isn’t vaporware, either.
Construction is already underway .

Discover Air Yacht: the flying superyacht powered by helium
This superyacht could “fly” for up to 48 hours at a top speed of 60 knots, turning into an amphibious trimaran that can sail the ocean and the skies.
For the incredulous ones who thought airplane and boat could never go by hand, Lazzarini’s futuristic new concept includes a bit of both. This disruptive design studio that continuously delivers the most impressive marine creations, has unveiled a flying superyacht called Air Yacht.
Flying cutting-edge technology
Despite its sci-fi look, the vessel’s tech would use cutting-edge technology, and helium would be its main source of fuel although it is also powered by the use of solar panels. Moreover, it would be made from carbon fibre, and have one main 262-foot (80 metres) hull in between a pair of 492-foot (150 metres) airships. They are connected via four carbon bridges on each side.

The two “floating balloons”, as Lazzarini describes them, will be divided into hives to store up to 400,000m3 of helium gas. This means this trimaran will have two blimps that can lift it into the sky. According to Lazzarini, the compressed helium will allow the Air Yacht to fly up to 48 hours at a top speed of 60 knots.
Moreover, the luxury yacht is equipped with eight counter-rotating electric engines that are powered by ultra-light batteries and solar panels . This all allows the vessel to sail on the water at 5 knots with no noise or pollution.
You will find interesting: The superyacht designed to eliminate seasickness
As it is, the engines would rotate to push the airship down and land on the water . Depressurization of the helium and the ballast anchoring system would keep it on the water, where an “inflatable basement” ensures it keeps afloat and can travel across the water.
The Air Yacht commodities
The central deck will be 10 metres wide and includes a master suite with 360-degree views, a large dining area and a living area. There are also windows on the other edges of the airships, each containing five en suite staterooms.
“With the Air Yacht, there is a way to sail the sky without emissions damaging the future,” -Lazzarini statement.
To top all this luxury, the hull will feature a helipad and a swimming pool on the roof. Lazzarini believes the Air Yacht is not intended for “touristic purposes”, but instead for a private owner who wants a superyacht and an evolution in aviation.

In the past, Packer has owned several impressive boats like a 180-foot Amels superyacht purchased for $47 million and a 170-foot Amels, the Seahorse, which were both sold later. He also owned a 288-foot ice-breaker, the Arctic P, that he gifted to his sister in 2017. His fleet once included the 165-footer Mangusta named Z Ellerston, and a 150-foot Leopard called Z Sydney. Done with smaller ships, he makes the most of the boat he is left with, his gigantic 354-feet luxury vessel Ije.
Who is James Packer?
Worth $2.8 billion per Forbes, Packer owes much of his wealth to the casino business that he stepped down from in March 2018, the Crown Resorts. The 56-year-old is one of the richest persons in Australia who comes from wealth as he was the son of Kerry Packer AC, a media mogul. He inherited the family wealth and companies like the Consolidated Press Holdings Limited, as well as investments in Crown Resorts and others. More interesting than how he acquired his wealth is how he splurges it.

An eye-catching black hull and silver superstructure offers a hint at this superyacht's striking interior. Rich notes of red, black and ochre work in harmony with the luxury yacht's native Australian and Canadian artwork to create spectacular living and entertainment areas. Linking these decks, a hand-carved trio of totem poles stand guard over the glistening black fossil marble stairwell.
Guests can enjoy the full cinema experience at the touch of a button in the sky lounge as black-out blinds fall and a screen unfurls from its hiding place in an elegant chaise longue. An air conditioned gym is available for the restless, with both exercise machines and a selection of free weights. Also on the bridge deck, a circular al fresco dining area is shielded by sliding glass doors, allowing guests to absorb the views on all sides while remaining sheltered from the breeze.
SLIPSTREAM's vast sun deck was designed with every comfort in mind; giant sun pads sit both forward and aft, a glass windbreak fits around the jacuzzi, and an open-air shower and glass-topped bar complete the experience.

Christine Blasey Ford On Life Before And Since Testifying
Christine Blasey Ford describes what it was like to come forward and testify that Brett Kavanaugh sexually assaulted her in high school. Her 2018 testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee threatened to derail his confirmation, but Kavanaugh succeeded in being becoming a supreme court justice. Ford still requires security for protection. After mostly avoiding the media, she's written a memoir. It's called One Way Back . Also, Maureen Corrigan reviews Percival Everett's new book, James , which reimagines The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn from the point of view of Finn's enslaved companion. Finally, we say goodbye to producer Seth Kelley.

After Testy Interview With Elon Musk, Don Lemon Says His Deal With X Is Canceled
Days before the former television anchor’s new talk show debuted, his deal combusted after an interview with the site’s owner, he said.
By Kate Conger
Reporting from San Francisco
In the wake of a testy interview with Elon Musk, the former television anchor Don Lemon’s deal for a new talk show on X combusted just days before it was scheduled to air.
Mr. Musk called off Mr. Lemon’s partnership with X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, the day after filming an hour-and-a-half long interview with the former news anchor at SpaceX’s office in Austin, Texas. The conversation was occasionally tense, Mr. Lemon said, as he asked probing questions about the upcoming U.S. presidential elections, Mr. Musk’s reported drug use and his various business ventures .
Mr. Lemon said he would release the interview on March 18 on YouTube and would continue to share his content on X. “My questions were respectful and wide ranging, covering everything from SpaceX to the presidential election,” Mr. Lemon said in a statement . “We had a good conversation. Clearly he felt differently. His commitment to a global town square where all questions can be asked and all ideas can be shared seems not to include questions of him from people like me.”
Salespeople at X were blindsided by the news of the abrupt cancellation, as they had been working as recently as Monday to track the sale of ads for the show, according to an internal document seen by The New York Times.
The cancellation of a show that Mr. Musk pledged would have his “full support” is the latest self-inflicted business disruption at X in recent months. In November, Mr. Musk told advertisers not to spend on his platform, using an expletive to dismiss them, and accused them of trying to “blackmail” him after he appeared to endorse an anti-Semitic conspiracy theory on X. His comments kicked off an expensive exodus .
Mr. Musk said in a post on X that Mr. Lemon’s show lacked originality. “His approach was basically just ‘CNN, but on social media,’ which doesn’t work, as evidenced by the fact that CNN is dying,” Mr. Musk wrote . “And, instead of it being the real Don Lemon, it was really just Jeff Zucker talking through Don, so lacked authenticity.”
Mr. Zucker, CNN’s former president, now leads a media-focused investment firm, called RedBird IMI, and oversees EverWonder Studio , a production company that provides services to Mr. Lemon’s show.
Mr. Lemon was one of several headline-grabbing figures, including the former Fox News host Tucker Carlson and the former Democratic presidential candidate Tulsi Gabbard, who have forged agreements this year to produce long-form video content on X, as part of an effort by the platform to bring on content creators to generate premium content that brands would want to advertise against.
X had agreed to throw its financial support behind the creation of Mr. Lemon’s new venture, called “The Don Lemon Show.” But the company said in a statement it would no longer pay Mr. Lemon to create content for the site.
“The Don Lemon Show is welcome to publish its content on X, without censorship, as we believe in providing a platform for creators to scale their work and connect with new communities,” the company said in a statement posted on X . “However, like any enterprise, we reserve the right to make decisions about our business partnerships, and after careful consideration, X decided not to enter into a commercial partnership with the show.”
In a statement, a spokeswoman for Mr. Lemon said that he would continue to seek payment from X. “Don has a deal with X and expects to be paid for it,” she said. “If we have to go to court, we will.”
X’s recent video deals — including the one with Mr. Lemon — were spearheaded by X’s chief executive, Linda Yaccarino, a former NBC Universal executive who has leaned on her television experience to grow X’s content portfolio . The tumult highlighted the challenges facing Ms. Yaccarino as she tries to woo advertisers and content creators to the platform under the shadow of Mr. Musk’s impulsive leadership.
Ryan Mac contributed reporting.

A man has died after falling from a hot-air balloon in Melbourne’s north-east.
Emergency services were called to Albert Street in Preston where a man’s body was located about 7.30am on Monday.
Police were speaking to other occupants in the balloon and witnesses to determine the circumstances surrounding the death. The road was closed in both directions between Wood Street and Murray Road, and motorists were urged to avoid the area where possible.
The death was not being treated as suspicious. Police will prepare a report for the coroner.

The balloon landed safely at Yarra Bend Park, police said. According to media reports, counselling was being offered to the other passengers.
Today Show reporter Izabella Staskowski told 3AW radio it was a “really confronting, shocking scene in Preston this morning”, as Albert Street was a very suburban area with lots of homes.
The National Commercial Hot Air Ballooning Industry and the Australian Ballooning Federation issued a statement after the company BalloonMan was asked for comment.
In a statement, the groups gave condolences to the man’s loved ones.
“Hot air balloon baskets are designed with safety in mind, specifically to prevent passengers from falling out accidentally or from any accidental exit,” the statement read.
“Passengers and the pilot are understandably traumatised by this tragedy and the operator is arranging psychological support and counselling for all affected.”
The hot air balloon took off from CT Barling Reserve, Reservoir, at 7am and the man fell soon after.
The matter is also being investigated by WorkSafe Victoria, the Air Transport Safety Bureau and the Civil Aviation Safety Authority.
after newsletter promotion
In April 2022, a hot air balloon on its maiden flight with 13 passengers and a pilot on board was forced to land among buildings in Elwood in Melbourne’s south-east.
Three people suffered minor injuries.
Another two people were injured on New Year’s Eve in 2021 during a hard landing in a field near Lilydale, east of Melbourne, in which the balloon’s basket was dragged 30 metres.
A fuel leak also sparked a fire on a hot air balloon flying over Victoria on Boxing Day in 2018, with one of its 15 passengers cutting their hand after the basket landed in trees.
