Blue Coast Yachts Unveils 60 m Trimaran

French shipyard Blue Coast Yachts has unveiled its latest project: a 60 m Power Trimaran

The impressive vessel was designed by Coste Design. It can accommodate 12 guests and features a combination of luxury interior architecture and elegant exterior lines. The owner’s suite is located on the main deck, the lower deck being optimized for five additional cabins.

The trimaran design will give the vessel unmatched sea-worthiness, even in rough conditions. Top speed is 30 knots. The three hull design will also offer reduced fuel consumption. For eco-friendly sailing, the craft uses electrical motors integrated in the outriggers for silent navigation. The trimaran has a length of 60m and it's made to be eco-friendly and economical. The batteries can sustain up to 6 hours of silent navigation.

BLUE COAST 88 Yacht for Sale

The BLUE COAST 88 is a four-deck sloop-rigged catamaran currently under construction and completely customizable.

This stunning 88-foot catamaran is born from the drawing board of the famous Naval Architect Jean Jacques Coste and is far more than just an idea on paper. The aluminum hull is already finished to a high standard and was overseen by Beureau Veritas. A skilled team of workers is ready to finish her to the tastes and wishes of her owner. Thanks to built-in recyclable Sealium aluminum, the BLUE COAST 88 is eco-friendly and shows very low emissions; her power consumption is less than 40 percent that of a monohull in the same size range. The efficient sailing plan allows for reducing even more the emissions with the possibility to sail in silent mode for hours.With accommodations for up to eight guests, she features a master suite on the main deck with three guest staterooms below deck making her ideal for families. She offers a level of comfort usually seen motor yacht, but with the pleasure of a sail yacht. Her performance under power is at a high level in high speed, as well as cruising speed for long-range passage making. The total width of the yacht is contained in reasonable proportions in order to reduce structural efforts and permit access in most marinas.

DESCRIPTION

The Blue Coast Yachts 160’ Sailing Trimaran is the first sailing trimaran of this size ever to be built with folding hull beams. In open water she is 23 metres across, but in harbour configuration the outer hull beams fold in to a slender 11metres. In just a few minutes almost any mooring becomes accessible but when you’re back on the ocean with the hulls extended you will enjoy the benefits of a stable platform without the heeling of a monohull.

The BCY 160’ ST is a three-deck sloop-rigged trimaran writing new rules of yacht design and comfort. All of the features you would expect to find in a motor yacht come as standard but with the performance and sensation of a fast sailing yacht. She is capable of achieving exceptional speeds under power as well as high speed, long range cruising.

With comfort in mind her stability is such that at anchor there is little rolling, and when underway heeling has been kept to a minimum even in rough conditions because of the design of the trimaran’s long narrow hulls. The low draft allows anchoring and cruising close to the shore and in shallow waters.

The BCY 160’ ST has been designed to be built and sail in harmony with nature and all of the energy used on board comes from renewable sources. For several months, the engineering and naval architecture office of Blue Coast Yachts at Coste Design & Partners has been developing several power trimarans, comprising one 60-metre and two 53-metre yacht models. The composite material construction process, making use of epoxy, glass, as well as carbon fiber, has just commenced this month.

The yachts have a transatlantic range and reach a maximum speed exceeding 30 knots. For silent low speed navigation and maneuvering, each outrigger (ama) is fitted with a high torque electric motor as auxiliary propulsion.

The interior, customized to the wishes of the owner, gives priority to volume with a modern and minimalist decor. Extensive hydro and aerodynamic research conducted by Gilles Vaton , who collaborated on the project, helped to develop highly efficient water lines and geometry linked to a wing-shaped cross beam generating ground effect to increase comfort and performance even in rough seas.

Cruising the Moskva River: A short guide to boat trips in Russia’s capital

There’s hardly a better way to absorb Moscow’s atmosphere than on a ship sailing up and down the Moskva River. While complicated ticketing, loud music and chilling winds might dampen the anticipated fun, this checklist will help you to enjoy the scenic views and not fall into common tourist traps.

How to find the right boat?

There are plenty of boats and selecting the right one might be challenging. The size of the boat should be your main criteria.

Plenty of small boats cruise the Moskva River, and the most vivid one is this yellow Lay’s-branded boat. Everyone who has ever visited Moscow probably has seen it.

This option might leave a passenger disembarking partially deaf as the merciless Russian pop music blasts onboard. A free spirit, however, will find partying on such a vessel to be an unforgettable and authentic experience that’s almost a metaphor for life in modern Russia: too loud, and sometimes too welcoming. Tickets start at $13 (800 rubles) per person.

Bigger boats offer smoother sailing and tend to attract foreign visitors because of their distinct Soviet aura. Indeed, many of the older vessels must have seen better days. They are still afloat, however, and getting aboard is a unique ‘cultural’ experience. Sometimes the crew might offer lunch or dinner to passengers, but this option must be purchased with the ticket. Here is one such  option  offering dinner for $24 (1,490 rubles).

If you want to travel in style, consider Flotilla Radisson. These large, modern vessels are quite posh, with a cozy restaurant and an attentive crew at your service. Even though the selection of wines and food is modest, these vessels are still much better than other boats.

Surprisingly, the luxurious boats are priced rather modestly, and a single ticket goes for $17-$32 (1,100-2,000 rubles); also expect a reasonable restaurant bill on top.

How to buy tickets?

Women holding photos of ships promise huge discounts to “the young and beautiful,” and give personal invitations for river tours. They sound and look nice, but there’s a small catch: their ticket prices are usually more than those purchased online.

“We bought tickets from street hawkers for 900 rubles each, only to later discover that the other passengers bought their tickets twice as cheap!”  wrote  (in Russian) a disappointed Rostislav on a travel company website.

Nevertheless, buying from street hawkers has one considerable advantage: they personally escort you to the vessel so that you don’t waste time looking for the boat on your own.

Prices start at $13 (800 rubles) for one ride, and for an additional $6.5 (400 rubles) you can purchase an unlimited number of tours on the same boat on any given day.

Flotilla Radisson has official ticket offices at Gorky Park and Hotel Ukraine, but they’re often sold out.

Buying online is an option that might save some cash. Websites such as  this   offer considerable discounts for tickets sold online. On a busy Friday night an online purchase might be the only chance to get a ticket on a Flotilla Radisson boat.

This  website  (in Russian) offers multiple options for short river cruises in and around the city center, including offbeat options such as ‘disco cruises’ and ‘children cruises.’ This other  website  sells tickets online, but doesn’t have an English version. The interface is intuitive, however.

Buying tickets online has its bad points, however. The most common is confusing which pier you should go to and missing your river tour.

“I once bought tickets online to save with the discount that the website offered,” said Igor Shvarkin from Moscow. “The pier was initially marked as ‘Park Kultury,’ but when I arrived it wasn’t easy to find my boat because there were too many there. My guests had to walk a considerable distance before I finally found the vessel that accepted my tickets purchased online,” said the man.

There are two main boarding piers in the city center:  Hotel Ukraine  and  Park Kultury . Always take note of your particular berth when buying tickets online.

Where to sit onboard?

Even on a warm day, the headwind might be chilly for passengers on deck. Make sure you have warm clothes, or that the crew has blankets ready upon request.

The glass-encased hold makes the tour much more comfortable, but not at the expense of having an enjoyable experience.

Getting off the boat requires preparation as well. Ideally, you should be able to disembark on any pier along the way. In reality, passengers never know where the boat’s captain will make the next stop. Street hawkers often tell passengers in advance where they’ll be able to disembark. If you buy tickets online then you’ll have to research it yourself.

There’s a chance that the captain won’t make any stops at all and will take you back to where the tour began, which is the case with Flotilla Radisson. The safest option is to automatically expect that you’ll return to the pier where you started.

The BLUE COAST 160` has extendable side hulls. At sea, the overall width of 23 m then offers very stable sailing even in rougher seas. With the side hulls retracted, the yacht, which is only 11 m wide, finds suitable berths in marinas and harbours. The shallow draft allows anchoring close to the most beautiful beaches.

The energy concept is also revolutionary: all the energy required on board comes from renewable sources. Of course, the latest battery management system (BMS) technology with state-of-the-art lithium-ion batteries is part of the overall concept. This means that exclusive ports can be entered with renewable energy. Additional requested energy can be generated by an optional hybrid propulsion system.

The customised luxurious interior design is also by Jean-Jacques Coste. Of course, a garage for the owner's car "matching" the yacht has also been thought of; it can get on and off the yacht via the retractable platform.

With a twinkle in the eye, here is a note on the term "yacht" : At the christening of the new "Brittania" by Queen Elizabeth II, a journalist asked why a vessel of 126 m length with a crew of 236 and 5.769 GRT could be be called a "yacht"? A member of the Royal Family gave him a convincing answer: "The use of the term yacht does not depend on the type, length, weight or size of the crew of a vessel, but on the status of the owner!"
