Custom Toe Rail - CAD/CAM Engineered - CNC Router

Intensity Boat Works introduces a new way to outfit your yacht with our development of a Machined Custom Toe Rail. Through a series of stages, we will take the shape of your boat to mechanically design and custom fit a toe rail per your specifications. Each toe rail is calculated through CAM/CAD engineering software that enables us to precisely match your taste. In order to insure accuracy, a foam replica of your custom toe rail will be formed, fitted and approved before fabricating the final hardwood pieces. After all designs are approved, we then use our Weeke BHP 200 CNC router to accurately shape your toe rail in a fraction of the time.

Our process enables us to eliminate much of the meticulous and time consuming hand work of the past traditional methods. Machined toe rails provide the symmetric accuracy that the next generation of custom boats demand. The speed of the machine process will keep your project on its projected schedule.

Slotted Toe Rail Track is the ideal toe rail configuration with continuous slots along its entire length. This removes unnecessary weight and provides multiple locations for block attachments. This is the exact replacement (Old Merriman® #7440) for many sailboats built during the 70's and 80's and perfect for new production and custom one-offs. Available in Black Hard Coat and 30 minute Velo Anodized finishes to provide a long- lasting finish.

New-Old Product.  A Brand New die to produce the same toe rail used on many older big boats such as the T-41 and others. An exact replacement for the Tartan 41’s produced in the 70s-80’s. .440” Square Mounting holes are spaced 5.0” on center and are .75” OC in from outboard end. Rail has .875” x 2.00” oval slots with a .4375 radius also on 5.0” centers. This is a big rail and measures just over 2” in height from the deck. Black Hard Coat Anodized provides a long- lasting finish.

#2816HC-28    Olson 30/ Olson 911  Toe Rail

This is another exact replacement for toe rail used on the George Olson designed Olson 25, 29, 30, 911’s and the Santa Cruz 27.  In keeping with the boat’s ultra-light design, this is an extremely light weight rail with 3/8” x 1¼” slots spaced on 2” centers.  Unlike the original slots, which were punched out and rough, all of our slots are milled with a smooth radius at the edges to prevent chafe.  Just as the original; mounting holes are not pre-drilled, allowing an exact match to existing holes on the boat, or off-setting the holes and starting fresh.  A small groove located along the top inboard area serves as a “locator” when drilling into the section.

Available in Clear Anodize Finish only.

An exact replacement for the combination toe rail/ rub rail installed on the O'Day 40 as well as the O'Day 39.  The toe rail features a base that is 1.55" wide with a vertical leg measuring 1.367" above the deck.  Slots are spaced 7.875" on center with mounting holes spaced 3.9375" on center.  The outside flange overlaps the hull .606" and mates with the lower rub rail portion.  The lower rub rail measures 1.77" in overall height and is not pre-drilled allowing for an exact match to existing holes or allowing you to offset existing holes and start fresh. This toe rail is available in clear anodize only.

Toe Rail Sailboat and boat spray rails are most often used on commercial boats and are produced in a rigid material.  Toe Rails are installed on the deck of the boat adjacent to the rub rail. Seven people found alive after three-day search in WA's flooded outback

A break in poor weather has allowed authorities to send a helicopter to one of the most remote places in the country to rescue seven people stranded for four days.

The group of three elderly adults and four children aged between seven and 17 were spotted standing around a bogged vehicle on a damaged unsealed road late on Wednesday after unseasonal torrential rain flooded the region in Western Australia's remote Goldfields.

Police earlier said they had urgent and grave welfare concerns for the convoy after they failed to arrive home at the remote Aboriginal community of Tjuntjuntjara on Sunday as planned. 

Two of the travellers have been identified as senior elder and celebrated artist Mr Walker, 74, and Mr   Rictor, whose family was the last known group of Aboriginal people to live a traditional nomadic life in Australia. 

Paupiyala Tjarutja Aboriginal Corporation chief executive Jon Lark said the news came as a relief to the community.

"Everybody's so relieved and so happy," he said.

"Clearly from the photo we can see everybody is looking very fine and healthy and happy, of course this is how we hoped they would be."

He said the next stage is to take them back to Kalgoorlie, with a rescue helicopter leaving the regional city about 10:30am on Thursday.

Once rescued, the group is expected to be offered medical checks, before being flown home to Tjuntjuntjarra.

Acting assistant police commissioner Rod Wilde said the helicopter that spotted the group gave them supplies.

"One of the police officers was able to land and check on the welfare of the people and also give some supplies, food and water and some blankets," he said.

"Fortunately, they were okay and with those supplies were able to wait out the night."

WA Premier Roger Cook said the family being found was an “immense relief and a great outcome”.

“I just want to thank all the police, first responders, search parties, everyone who participated in the efforts and the operations to locate that family,” he said at a Thursday morning press conference.

Located about 700 kilometres inland from Kalgoorlie-Boulder, Tjuntjuntjara is home to about 200 people. 

It is managed by the Paupiyala Tjarutja Aboriginal Corporation on behalf of the Spinifex people. 

It is one of the most remote Aboriginal communities in Australia. 

Bush savvy locals

Rhonda Thorncroft is the principal of the Tjuntjunjara Remote Community School and said the whole community was delighted when they heard the good news.

"I didn't think it would be quite so emotional because they're really bush savvy, we thought they'd be okay," Ms Thorncroft said.

"But we didn't know where they were, the road is incredibly treacherous at the moment, incredibly wet, and so we knew they were on the road, we thought they were together.

"The men that were on the journey were bushmen so we knew they could get food, we just didn't know how much water was around them to get that food, they couldn't light a fire of course because of the wet. 

"We were really worried about the little one, well all of them but the younger one who's quite small, but yeah we'll be very happy to see them home, that's for sure."

Toe rail covers - there must be a better option

Hi, They want $1,400 to $1,900 for canvas toe rail covers for my 30-foot boat. I mean, it's just 60 or so feet x 9 inches of canvas. I know there's labor and all that, but apparently they like to charge the same rates as lawyers. I've looked for every possible alternative. All I need is something I call roll out and tie down at the stanchions, with maybe weighted material on the outside bottom, or a rope stringer. Are there any ready-made things like this (seriously doubt it), or anything that any of you have done to cover the toe rails while moored, without spending multiple thousands of $? Thank you

For that price you could replace all the teak on your toe rail and then some. Make your own covers.  

...and plan on doing it again in 5 years, plus drilling fasteners into your deck / hull, and stubbing toes on them. Let it go. I have teak toe rails, two choices - bi-annual scrub and oil; clear finish. Mine are currently Cetol light w/gloss.  

Make them yourself might be a good suggestion. We've done that and are pleased with the results. We're on fresh water, so scrubbing with saltwater to mitigate mildew is not an option. We now use Semco sealer annually and before we had to apply twice a year with a lot more preparation. We cut fabric strips wide enough plus 1 and 1/2" to cover the toe rail. Plus 1" will also work but seems more difficult to manage as will be described later. For long toe rails, join strips together with a 1/2" seam and top sew. On each end, fold 1/2" and then a length about 1/2 of the finished cover, and stitch. Mark a line 3/4' inch from each edge. Lay webbing inside the line (3/4" of fabric exposed) and stitch the center side webbing, 1/8" from the edge. Fold the exposed 3/4" of the fabric under the webbing and stitch 1/8" from the outside edge. Folding under 1/2" is doable but more difficult. Seam tape could be used. However, seam tape seems to gum-up the needle, so to avoid long runs with seam tape, press the folded-under fabric with a roller and staple with a pliers-like stapler. Be sure to remove the staples. For the ends of the toe rail cover, fold each end inside out, stitch between the webbing 45 degrees across the end. Cover can be secured via snaps, line, Velcro or a combination. We used a Yosemite bowlines on line, no snaps which seems to hold OK except in high wind. We're near the boat and adjust after high wind. Fairly common here in Florida was you can imagine. A number of us have had them made for considerably less which leads me to assume they are not as common in your area. Typical price here is around $4/ft.  

Yeah! I should make these myself. With the money they want for toe rail covers, I could by a canvas sewing machine, and have enought left over to buy a new feckin' hi-res chartplotter. Thanks for the ideas, especially Tejas for his details. I'll give it a shot.  

Skipper, Another consideration is to use polyester webbing rather than nylon webbing. I don't know for a fact, but apparently nylon webbing tends to shrink more than polyester webbing. We used polyester. Having our boat in Texas, we used Tenara, a PTFE monofilament thread that is UV resistant. I don't think you need to do that for Annapolis. Tenara thread is expensive and seems to have sewability problems on some machines.

Consider going to an upholstery shop or a seamstress.  

Buy a boat with no exposed wood outside. Woodwork = wood+work. Since youre going to cover it up anyway, whats the point to have wood. My $0.02
