Learn About Leonard DiCaprio's Yacht: Topaz

When you think about Leonardo DiCaprio, images of an eco-conscious crusader who is out to improve the health of the planet may first emerge. Recent rumors that Leo plans to attend the 2018 World Cup events in Brazil aboard a yacht seem a bit contradictory because of the pollution that these floating luxury hotels churn into the air and water.

While some have criticized him for indulging in a bit of heaven at the expense of the planet, if he wasn't doing it, somebody else would be. At least he's making an attempt to help the situation when he can. All of that aside, we were curious to find out more about Leonardo DiCaprio's Yacht, and here is what we discovered.

Leo doesn't own the yacht

DiCaprio hasn't actually purchased a yacht. Instead, he rented it from owner, Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan. Mansour is a billionaire politician who is the current prime minister of the United Arab Emirates.

The mega yacht was custom built according to his grand and luxurious specifications and named the Topaz. Until recently, the interior of the yacht has remained a well-guarded secret. We've learned some juicy tidbits that we're happy to share.

Specifications of the Topaz

The super yacht measures a total of 453 feet in length with a cost of more than $200 million in USD to build and an estimated value of $678 million. This isn't the biggest yacht that Mr. DiCaprio has chartered, but it's likely to be one of the most luxurious.

The yacht is powered by four M90 diesel engines which generate approximately 48,000 horse power. The ship made its maiden launch in 2012 and according to sources, DiCaprio also rented it in 2014 just 2 years into its service run.

The Topaz is rumored to be one of the most extravagant yachts in the world . It offers smooth sailing with the installation of zero speed stabilizers. It comes fully outfitted with lifts that ferry guests comfortably among the eight deck levels to the host of amenities that are scattered throughout the massive vessel.

It is decked out in full luxury and comfort with a cinema, two hot tubs, air conditioning throughout, three swimming pools, a fitness hall, underwater lights, an ample sized conference room and a well hidden interior design that is left up to our imaginations.

Leonardo DiCaprio's guest list aboard the Topaz

Leo won't be making the trip alone. We've learned that he has a list of guests that will accompany him on thee yacht as he enjoys the football tournament in Brazil.

There were 21 of his friends, all of millionaire status mind you, invited to enjoy the amenities. It's been reported that DiCaprio and his pals hopped a jet and flew to Rio de Janeiro to arrive one day prior to kick off of the Brazil World cup.

The controversy the rental has stirred

While some are happy that Leo had a nice luxury vacation , others are upset about the seeming nose thumb to environmentalists who think his actions are careless.

There has been a degree of judgment and sentiments of disappointment to outright damnation sent his way. Activists point out that Leo's private jet that made thee 8000 mile trip left a hefty carbon footprint. This is besides the emissions put out from the luxury mega yacht. They're citing his actions as not being environmentally responsible.

Why the uproar?

The backlash has come after the fact that DiCaprio made a plea to viewers to work with one another to help fight climate change when he accepted his first ever Oscar award. DiCaprio's involvement in Hollywood environmentalism can't be denied.

He dedicates time to fly here and there to pick up awards for his contributions to help clean up the environment, but when he flies to and fro, his carbon footprint grows.

There has been a volley of insults and comments disapproving of Leo's actions, but isn't this how Hollywood environmentalism works? It's kinda tough to get to Brazil without flying or chartering a boat to take you there.

It's a drama that has been ongoing since Leo's plans were first revealed but it seems that he could at least score a few points for encouraging us all to make some kind of effort.

It's not easy being the center of attention and there are times when best intentions draw a backlash of negativism, despite the fact that most of us rely on some type of carbon emitting transportation resources.

Leonard DiCaprio’s 483 foot long yacht: Topaz

how big is leonardo dicaprio's yacht

The Topaz yacht is also ridiculously known as M/Y A+ (which is one of the worst yacht monikers of all time).

However, despite the dumb alternative name, the Topaz is a beauty .

And DiCaprio technically doesn’t own it, he just rents it a lot .

The owner is United Arab Emirates billionaire Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan .

The yacht cost $527 million dollars .

DiCaprio’s total net worth is only $260 million dollars .

I Salute Leonardo DiCaprio and His Massive Yacht

The man is having the summer holiday of our dreams

preview for Killers Of The Flower Moon - Official Teaser (Paramount Pictures)

There are two things about Leonardo DiCaprio that I know will always be true: 1/ He’s a man of leisure, and 2/ He's a man of luxury. When DiCaprio not starring in a blockbuster, or dating a young model, the 48-year-old actor can often be found unwinding in a wildly glamorous manner.

This week, he did exactly that, while cruising around the Amalfi coast in his private yacht. DiCaprio invited his dad, stepmum, and niece along for the ride. Some may find that excessive! They might wonder, Why charter a big-ass boat for just four people? Wouldn’t a smaller ship be easier to manage? I think the answer is pretty simple: Because it's fun! And Leonardo DiCaprio has yacht money! I’d do the same. Wouldn’t you?

The actor's upcoming movie is based on David Grann’s popular nonfiction book, Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI . DiCaprio stars in the project alongside Robert DeNiro, Jesse Plemons, Brendan Fraser, John Lithgow, and Lily Gladstone. The crime drama follows a series of murders that affect the indigenous Osage Nation after oil is found on their land. When more and more people go missing, the FBI swoops in to investigate.

Killers of the Flower Moon will premiere in theatres on 2 October. That gives good ol’ Leo at least a few more months to relax before hopping back into movie-star mode. I, for one, can’t wait to see what he does next.

Leonardo Dicaprio Loves Him a Yacht Party, But Does He Actually Own a Luxury Boat?

Hollywood superstar Leonardo DiCaprio may have featured in the popular film Titanic , but he certainly hasn't let that scare him away from spending some time on massive boats. In fact, Leo gets spotted quite frequently on luxury yachts . But, does the Oscar-winning actor actually own a megayacht, or a regular yacht, for that matter?

Turns out, he doesn't. He still enjoys the yachting lifestyle though, thanks to the variety of different yacht charter companies out there. Leo's no billionaire , but with his multimillion-dollar net worth, he could definitely go out and buy a decent-sized yacht. That said, renting one is a much more affordable route, especially since that avoids the cost of upkeep.

Back in 2012, Leo brought out Wolf of Wall Street co-star Jonah Hill to enjoy the experience of a rented luxury vessel. Of course, what's a yacht party without beautiful models? Hill was no doubt blown away by the whole experience, but it seemed like just another day to DiCaprio.

In 2013, it was reported that DiCaprio rented a yacht for a week for the cool price of $410,000. Considering the boat later sold for $42 million, it doesn't seem like too bad of a deal. That said, DiCaprio garnered even more attention after he rented the sixth-largest superyacht in the world. The Topaz is worth approximately $527 million, featuring eight different decks, a swimming pool, jacuzzi, movie theater, and two helicopter pads. Apparently, Leo brought 21 of his closest millionaire friends along to enjoy the World Cup. Eventually, they ditched the yacht for a private jet straight to Rio de Janeiro in order to catch the kick off in Brazil.

In 2020, pictures obtained by Page Six, and later posted all over social media, showed DiCaprio and his girlfriend Camila Morrone heading out on a yacht to celebrate her 23rd birthday. Other stars such as Olympic snowboarder Shaun White and actors Kevin Connolly and Lukas Haas were in attendance as they sailed toward Malibu to enjoy some fun in the sun.

Now, Leo has actually been called out a few times by fans. He's a strong advocate for the environment and climate change, but his words seem to have less of an impact the more he gets spotted on these massive yachts. They don't exactly have the smallest carbon footprint, but this could also act as part of the reason that he doesn't personally own one.

Regardless, Leonardo DiCaprio undoubtedly loves living the superyacht life from time to time. The guy's had a wildly successful career, so I don't blame him for enjoying some of the finer things in life. I'm just going to go ahead and add "attending a DiCaprio yacht party" to my bucket list.

Here’s Leonardo DiCaprio on a Yacht Called Big Bang

Portrait of Madeleine Aggeler

Leonardo DiCaprio is a 42-year-old man who appreciates the finer things in life: twenty-something models, flavorful vapes, a nice newsboy cap , and most recently, a luxury yacht luxuriously named Big Bang.

Last weekend, Leo (in the blue t-shirt and baseball cap, sans plastic bag ) was spotted kicking back on the aptly named yacht in downtown Manhattan with some bros and a book which, if I had to guess, was Tucker Max’s New York Times bestseller “I Hope They Serve Beer In Hell.”

Despite what its name would suggest, Big Bang is not owned by a rich, horny 14-year-old boy. It belongs to YachtLife , an app which “lets you charter luxury yachts with the tap of a button. No more searching countless websites.” (Finally!)

Big Bang is 55’ long, and according to the YachtLife website “This sleek and sexy VanDutch was custom made for luxury watchmaker Hublot,” and “With carbon cushions, tons of deck space on the bow and aft deck and 2 cabins below, this is the perfect boat for cruising Miami and the islands,” or, apparently, the North Cove Marina in New York City.

The raunchy boat holds a maximum of 13 passengers, and smoke and drugs are 100% forbidden, all of which is fine, because there are only 11 members of the original Pussy Posse , and vaping doesn’t count as smoking.

Does Leonardo DiCaprio Own A Yacht?

Countless A-list celebrities flaunt personal yachts as symbols of their success. Leonardo DiCaprio has millions of dollars and numerous awards, but does he have his own yacht?

Leonardo DiCaprio does not have a yacht. He has borrowed yachts in the past and enjoyed parties on them. However, he does not have a yacht to call his own.

how big is leonardo dicaprio's yacht

Photos of Leonardo DiCaprio on yachts have caused much speculation. Fans wondered if the yachts were his. Others were quick to question whether his yacht parties contradicted his environmental activism.

The Truth Behind His Yacht Appearances

Although Leonardo DiCaprio is no stranger to hosting extravagant yacht parties, he actually rents or borrows yachts for such occasions. He appears in numerous photos aboard expensive yachts, but he does not own them.

how big is leonardo dicaprio's yacht

In 2013 Leonardo paid $410,000 to rent a yacht for a week. The ship was on sale for $42 million , but he did not splurge to buy the boat for himself.

What Cologne Does Leonardo DiCaprio Wear?

What is leonardo dicaprio’s daily routine, where does leonardo dicaprio live.

Leonardo’s yacht outings only became more opulent over time. In 2018 he was spotted aboard The Topaz , the world’s sixth largest yacht worth approximately $527 million . The Topaz boasts eight decks, a swimming pool, jacuzzi, gym, movie theater, and double helicopter landing pads.

Leonardo DiCaprio certainly has expensive taste, even if the “superyacht” Topaz is not his. No one knows if he borrowed the yacht for free or paid for his rental.

Leonardo’s Yacht Parties are Legendary

In 2012, Leonardo DiCaprio showed his actor friend Jonah Hill a taste of the good life aboard an expensive ship. Leonardo and Jonah enjoyed a wild yacht party full of beautiful models. Jonah Hill appeared stunned when some of the models removed their bikini tops, while Leonardo was unphased.

Leonardo was later accompanied by 21 of his closest millionaire friends aboard the Topaz in 2018. They partied and watched the 2018 World Cup from the enormous yacht.

Paparazzi photos show that Leonardo DiCaprio’s yacht parties are just what one would expect from a group of famous and wealthy individuals. The celebrities gather to drink, dance, and get wild like anyone else – their celebrations just happen to occur on some of the most expensive ships in the world.

Controversy Surrounding Leo’s Yacht Rentals

Here is severely distraught Leonardo DiCaprio landing his helicopter on his yacht. This is the guy lecturing you on your carbon footprint. pic.twitter.com/iVOXN1BJjb — MOUTH (@correctthemedia) June 4, 2017

Leonardo DiCaprio is a strong advocate for the environment, yet his yachts produce high carbon emissions . The internet is swamped with social media posts criticizing his lavish lifestyle. Many people claim that his activism is diminished if he does not live by his preaching.

Meanwhile, Leonardo’s fans give him a pass to enjoy his wealth in occasional luxury. Yachts are not good for the environment, but his infrequent rentals make him no worse than any other celebrity.

Although Leonardo DiCaprio’s yacht parties are famously extravagant, he has never bought his own yacht. He certainly has enough money to purchase one of the ships he intermittently borrows for parties. Maybe Leonardo’s occasional yacht parties are not the worst thing for the environment since he still does not travel the world on his own yacht.

Leonardo DiCaprio accepts the award for best actor in a leading role for “The Revenant” at the ... [+] Oscars on Sunday at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. (Photo by Chris Pizzello/Invision/AP)

When a Congressman who preaches family values is caught philandering, there is an understandable uproar. Even for those who agree with the message, when it is delivered by a hypocrite it not only loses its impact, it opens up the message to easy attack from critics. I have always believed that if you are going to lecture to people on how they should live, you should set a strong example so you have the moral authority to do so.

Leonardo DiCaprio took home the Oscar for Best Actor on Sunday night. I was rooting for him to win, as was, it seems, most of America. His victory reportedly set a social-media record, with 440,000 Twitter posts in about a minute to become the single-most Tweeted minute during an Oscar telecast.

While I applauded his victory, I took exception to part of his acceptance speech. Here is an excerpt:

"Climate change is real, it is happening right now. It is the most urgent threat facing our entire species, and we need to work collectively together and stop procrastinating. We need to support leaders around the world who do not speak for the big polluters, but who speak for all of humanity, for the indigenous people of the world, for the billions and billions of underprivileged people out there who would be most affected by this."

The problem isn't the message. I believe we are engaging in a dangerous experiment by dumping ever-increasing amounts of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. I don't think there is an easy fix to the problem, but I agree with his characterization that it is an urgent threat.

The problem is that DiCaprio himself is one of those "big polluters," which diminishes his moral authority to lecture others on reducing their own carbon emissions. While DiCaprio has donated a lot of his time, money, and effort into raising awareness on the issue -- as he did in his Oscar speech -- he unnecessarily hands ammunition to his opponents with his own wasteful consumption. For years his critics have noted his extensive usage of private jets to travel around the globe for both business and pleasure. In 2014 he famously rented the world's fifth largest yacht , owned by a UAE oil tycoon, to watch the World Cup in Brazil. In case you are wondering, neither the jets nor the yacht run on solar power.

But DiCaprio has claimed to be a "CarbonNeutral citizen." What does that mean? A London-based company called Future Forests (which registered CarbonNeutral as a brand) worked with DiCaprio to estimate that his annual carbon dioxide emissions are 11 tons per year. With that information in hand, they planted thousands of trees, creating The Leonardo DiCaprio Forest in Mexico, to offset his carbon dioxide emissions.

Don't get me wrong. I think planting forests is a great idea. But the notion that DiCaprio's carbon emissions are 11 tons per year is nonsense. According to the World Bank, per capita carbon dioxide emissions in the U.S. are about 19 tons per year. That's of course an average, and rich people who take private jets and vacation on yachts have much higher carbon emissions than average.

In fact, a 2014 Daily Mail article noted, "DiCaprio took at least 20 trips across the nation and around the world this year alone - including numerous flights from New York to Los Angeles and back, a ski vacation to the French Alps, another vacation to the French Riviera, flights to London and Tokyo to promote his film Wolf of Wall Street, two trips to Miami and trip to Brazil to watch the World Cup." The article further noted that if he had taken commercial airlines for all of those flights, the carbon dioxide emissions from those flights alone would amount to 44 tons. (Note: The article says "million tons", but that's clearly an error as a round-trip coast-to-coast commercial airliner generates about 2 tons of carbon dioxide emissions per person). But many of those flights were on private jets, which the article notes can have 37 times the personal carbon emissions of commercial flights.

Add to the fact that he owns several homes and vacations frequently on diesel-burning yachts, and the 11 ton per year number is clearly wishful thinking.

Now I don't want to make this entirely one-sided, as DiCaprio is clearly passionate about the issue. He may be getting through to the masses, in which case he may be far more than offsetting his own carbon emissions. In the grand scheme, he is probably doing more good than harm.  He drives a Prius. He has been known to ride bikes around New York. He advocates for environmental charities and electric cars.

But that's not the point. Why undermine your message? I suspect this issue dogs him internally, and he is torn between living the good life of a Hollywood movie star, and sacrificing in order to set a good example. I have encountered his defenders, who attempt to justify his emissions by suggesting that it is simply too much to expect for someone like him to take commercial air transportation. But really, we can all make excuses for why we need to emit the carbon we emit. It all comes down to convenience. It's just easier and more convenient to hop in a car and go somewhere than it is to walk or bike there. That's why it's important for people like Leonardo DiCaprio -- who would lecture all of us on sacrifice -- to set an exemplary example.

I believe a leader should lead by example. If he needs some advice on advocating for the environment while leading the life of a Hollywood star, he should perhaps seek it from Ed Begley Jr . He seems to have figured it out. I suspect Leonardo will as well, but right now I just don't see the kinds of sacrifices from him that he is asking from the rest of us. If you are going to ask me to walk a mile, walk two yourself to show me the way.

Leonardo DiCaprio’s World Cup 2014 Party on TOPAZ

By Editorial Team   16 June 2014

After throwing a wild 80’s themed bash on the world’s fifth largest superyacht in April, it has been reported that Leonardo DiCaprio once again stepped on board the 147m/482’ TOPAZ to celebrate the 2014 World Cup in true Brazilian party style.

Sporting a brightly coloured Brazil scarf, DiCaprio was seen enjoying the action unfold amongst the stands of football fans during the 2014 World Cup ’s opening game between Brazil and Croatia last Thursday. He was then seen heading back to marina in Rio where superyacht TOPAZ is berthed, where he and around 20 of his friends stepped on board to relax and party late into the night.

According to the Daily Mail, it is thought that the Hollywood actor has again chartered the yacht for the famous football tournament with permission from her Owner, Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, deputy prime minister of the United Arab Emitates and owner of Manchester City FC. Since her launch from Lürssen in 2012, she has very occasionally been made available for rent to select clients and it seems that DiCaprio has taken a particular liking the yacht, although it is easy to see why.

TOPAZ’s sheer size allows for an impressive offering of amenities on board that include two heli-pads, two swimming pools and a cinema.  Apart from her highly luxurious accommodation and experienced crew of 20, she is a perfect example of how a luxury charter yacht can be the perfect way to enjoy events around the world in comfort and privacy.

Leonardo DiCaprio Seen Living It Up with Friends on a Yacht in St. Bart's During New Year's Vacation

Leonardo DiCaprio was photographed with four friends aboard a yacht off the coast of St. Bart's on Monday

Leonardo DiCaprio is ringing in the New Year overseas.

The Oscar winner was spotted on a yacht off the island of Saint Barthélemy onMonday, surrounded by friends.

In photos taken of the Caribbean excursion, a shirtless DiCaprio, 48, is seen taking in the sights from onboard the vessel alongside four other individuals.

After DiCaprio parted ways with ex-girlfriend Camila Morrone in August after more than four years together, the actor was seen spending time with Gigi Hadid .

In September, a source told PEOPLE that DiCaprio "is taken with Gigi." They explained that the supermodel, 27, "is the type of woman he is usually attracted to" and said that "they sort of run in the same high-profile circles and would see each other at events , clubs, restaurants and gatherings."

DiCaprio and Hadid were last seen together in New York City in November, when they were spotted leaving the same restaurant .

Late last month, DiCaprio and actress Victoria Lamas were seen leaving The Birds Streets Club on Sunset Boulevard in West Hollywood, California, separately, before they entered a car together.

A source told PEOPLE they were leaving a "big group dinner," adding, "They were also joined by a number of other people in the car."

After the Titanic actor was spotted with the 23-year-old actress in late December, her dad, Lorenzo Lamas , told the New York Post that she is "very smitten."

Lorenzo, 64, added of his daughter and DiCaprio, "I know she likes him very much. I think they met last month. I'm not sure of the circumstances, but that's what she told me."

He also noted that he offered Victoria some fatherly advice.

"I told her to treat the relationship like a holiday — just enjoy it as much as you can for as long as it lasts," Lorenzo said. "And if it lasts for more than a typical holiday, great. But if not, then just guard your heart, you know? Because she's very young."

According to Lorenzo, however, things between the pair are not serious .

He expressed to the Post , "She's fond of him, obviously. But they're not dating, and she does not want that out there because that would be really bad. It'd be embarrassing for her if he should happen to read something that said that they're dating and they're not."

Leonardo DiCaprio's Endless Summer

how big is leonardo dicaprio's yacht

By Kenzie Bryant

Leonardo DiCaprio's Endless Summer

I am thrilled to inform you that once again Leonardo DiCaprio and his closest friend and confidant Tobey McGuire are on a boat. They are not in St.-Tropez , nor Sardinia , nor even the Amalfi Coast. That was yesterday’s yachting. This week, they’re off the coast of Ibiza.

The crew is different this time as well. Leo and Tobey are hanging out with Ibiza's finest: Arabella Chi, 32-year-old Love Island star and Riccardo Tisci , Burberry’s COO. Chi and DiCaprio are not dating the tabloids say; she’s instead been linked to DiCaprio’s other buddy and nightlife man about town Richie Akiva , according to the Daily Mail . The actor’s plus one was actually Mick Jagger, who joined him for lunch on Wednesday.

I know what you’re thinking. Are you going to take note of every time Leonardo DiCaprio steps dockside until the end of time? All I can say is that it’s nice to have a calling. A grounding force, something to carry you through this one wild and precious life.

And one day, won’t we—humanity—want a record of this? We’ll want to know that through all the heat and discord, somebody was pressing on, deciding to live . We’ll want to know that Oscar-winning actor Leonardo DiCaprio always returned to the sea, whether it was the Mediterranean or the Caribbean, and found something there to float on. And that we always caught him if we could.

Leonardo DiCaprio slammed as 'eco-hypocrite' after star's seen lounging on $150M super-yacht

There is perhaps no bigger climate activist in Hollywood than Leonardo DiCaprio, with the actor actively preaching about climate change and global warming as a United Nations ambassador. In fact, the 'Don't Look Up' actor had branded climate change as the "most urgent threat facing our entire species" and lectured everyone about the environmental threats in his famous Oscar acceptance speech.

However, the 47-year-old actor is now being criticized for his hypocrisy, after he was spotted vacationing in the $150 million superyacht The Vava II, along with 24-year-old girlfriend Camila Morrone. DiCaprio has been spending his new year with his ladylove at the Caribbean island of St Bart's. The couple was spotted swimming in the waves as Morrone rocked a stunning black swimsuit. In the past, DiCaprio had been called out by environmentalists for availing his private jet to fly to global events, thereby generating an enormous carbon footprint.

DiCaprio's present holiday home, The Vava II, happens to be one of the biggest luxury superyachts in the world. It is owned by 46-year-old Swiss pharmaceutical billionaire Ernesto Bertrarelli and is often used by celebrities to spend their vacations. Aside from the usual amenities, the 315-ft long yacht constitutes a gym, swimming pool, 'beach club', movie theater, and even a helipad. It can accommodate more than 22 guests alongside 30 crew members.

It reportedly costs a bomb to replenish its fuel needs, as The Vava II demands fuel worth $339,712 to fill its tank. Thus one can easily guess the mammoth amount of carbon footprint left behind by the vehicle. In fact, the carbon pollution generated by the yacht by sailing only seven miles reportedly equals the carbon emission of a standard car in one year. Once loaded with 115,000 gallons of diesel, the yacht has a range of 5,700 miles. According to estimates, the Vava II generates a jaw-dropping amount of 238 kg carbon dioxide every mile. Though it has been mostly stationary in the Caribbean Sea in the recent past, fans are unwilling to absolve DiCaprio of his environmental hypocrisy.

However, DiCaprio was defended by environmentalist Sarah Clayton who remarked, "I know celebrities lead these crazy lives, but Don’t Look Up has done so much to make people aware of climate change." She referred to the actor's latest Netflix release which also stars Jennifer Lawrence, Meryl Streep, Cate Blanchett, Timothee Chalamet, Jonah Hill, Tyler Perry, among others.

DiCaprio, who notably spent nearly $102 million dollars on a global eco-conservation project, is yet to address the controversy surrounding his fossil fuel pollution.

Leonardo DiCaprio and Teyana Taylor got pretty close at a pre-Oscar bash.

The 49-year-old actor was seen holding the “Coming 2 America” star, 33, close in a seemingly flirty exchange while attending the WME party hosted at William Randolph Hearst’s former estate in Beverly Hills, Calif., Friday.

One video from that night showed DiCaprio placing his hand on Taylor’s bare lower back as she leaned in to whisper in his ear while on the dance floor.

In another clip, Taylor smiled as she wrapped her arms around the “Titanic” star’s neck and played with his hair.

Despite the actor facing away from the camera, the “A Thousand and One” star was seen intently gazing into his eyes.

However, an insider told TMZ the duo — who is currently working together in a new unnamed Paul Thomas Anderson movie — isn’t dating and there is nothing romantic between them.

The source furthered that DiCaprio is in a relationship with someone else. However, reps for Dicaprio weren’t immediately available to Page Six for comment.

“They’ve been spending quite a bit of time together over the past few months, and they’re enjoying getting to know one another on a deeper level,” a source told us at the time.

In November, the couple celebrated DiCaprio’s 49th birthday in Beverly Hills and they were seen being “affectionate and kissing throughout the night.”

That same month, the actor made post-Thanksgiving plans to fly to London and spend time with Ceretti and her family .

Leonardo DiCaprio and girlfriend Vittoria Ceretti

And earlier this year, the two were spotted leaving a romantic date night at Beverly Hill’s new restaurant Cipriani.

DiCaprio was previously in a relationship with Camila Morrone for four years before they called it quits in 2022.

As for Ceretti, she was wed to New York DJ Matteo Milleri, though it’s unclear when they separated.

Leonardo DiCaprio backs YC alum SolarMente to democratize solar power in Spain

how big is leonardo dicaprio's yacht

Not all countries in Europe get lots of sunlight. You’d think Spain would be big on solar energy generation since it’s one of the sunniest countries in Europe — peak sun hours in Spain put it on par with the U.S. West Coast, after all. However, Spain still lags behind Germany and the Netherlands in terms of installed domestic solar panels, which could be partly due to a historical “ sun tax ,” a tax on solar installations, that the country scrapped only in 2018. Several years on, some startups are finally taking steps to make the most of this opportunity.

Barcelona-based SolarMente aims to turn solar installations into a mainstay of Spanish houses. Its CEO and co-founder, Wouter Draijer, told TechCrunch that he was spurred to start the company when he flew to Barcelona and had a bird’s-eye view of how few Spanish rooftops had solar panels compared to his home country, the Netherlands. He teamed up with Victor Gardrinier, a French national who studied at HEC Montreal and Stanford, to start the company.

Draijer said the company started off as an installer of solar panels in Spain, but after the pandemic, it decided it should offer a solar energy management system. In hindsight, that was probably a wise move, considering the panel installation market is already covered by specialized companies, and the falling cost of panels could make DIY efforts more attractive for homeowners. It also has a few startups to compete with, including Lumio Solar , which won the most sustainable startup award at Madrid’s South Summit 2023, and Tornasol , whose kits can be installed on balconies and paid for in installments through BNPL platform seQura.

“Solar is not a product,” Draijer said, explaining why most Spaniards can’t or just don’t want to pay upfront for solar panels. What he means is that people care more about what panels can do for them rather than owning them.

That’s why SolarMente offers subscription-based energy management services, which include installing solar panels without upfront costs. And instead of targeting people who live in apartments, the company prefers to sell to individual houses because it’s easier from a regulation standpoint and because the opportunity is bigger, Draijer said.

“We start with solar, but most of our customers can come back to us because we analyze their data, and we put a battery and EV charger, a heat pump, and then we start managing that energy.”

Recently, the Y Combinator alum added actor Leonardo DiCaprio to its cap table, becoming his first investment in Spain.

Solar arbitrage

Management of how much energy is consumed and when is a must with solar, because, as Gardrinier explained in an X thread back in 2023, “there is an arbitrage between the price at which households buy energy from the grid and the price at which households sell energy back to the grid.”

Gardrinier told TechCrunch that the arbitrage was what inspired him to focus on the company’s energy management, and he was initially interested in seeing how households with solar panels could trade their solar energy with peers on the blockchain.

That interest helped SolarMente win a blockchain-focused hackathon and launch a virtual battery service , but the next step of the startup’s journey doesn’t involve full-on trading. Instead, the startup wants to enable homeowners to optimize their energy consumption with a super app that helps them decide when to consume or sell the energy the solar panels generate.

Of the team, Gardrinier is also the most closely involved with fundraising, and gave some context on SolarMente’s financing so far: “As I like to think of it, with every round you de-risk your company and your team a little bit more. So with our YC round, the first $2 million seed round, with a very basic team, we showed that solar could maybe work in Spain. And then we did a much bigger round last year of mostly debt; we built a huge debt structure to finance our solar installations. And with that we wanted to prove that you can offer solar as a subscription service at the price of your gym membership, and make it democratized.”

DiCaprio’s newly announced investment is part of a larger seed round of equity financing focused on getting SolarMente where it needs to be to raise a Series A. “We’re using this round to really power our super app for home energy,” Gardrinier said.

Celebrity endorsement

Although this is DiCaprio’s first investment in Spain, the actor has been investing in tech startups since at least 2011 . He has also been famously vocal about climate change, to which he called attention in his acceptance speech at the 2016 Oscars ceremony.

Not all of the actor’s investments have to do with climate and green tech, but sustainability is a theme across many of those, which include Allbirds , Beyond Meat and Styrofoam replacement company Cruz Foam . For SolarMente, it also helped that one of their summer 2021 YC batch mates, water risk management platform Waterplan , was already in touch with DiCaprio.

Draijer and Gardrinier eventually met DiCaprio, Gardrinier said, and “every time we discussed the business and vision for energy transition, [DiCaprio] would put up his phone and show us one of the projects he’s working on — decentralized storage, etc.”

It likely helped that SolarMente’s approach wasn’t entirely new to the actor. DiCaprio previously invested in Bright , a startup that works on installing solar power in homes and businesses across Mexico. Just like SolarMente, it graduated from Y Combinator , and in July 2023 raised a $31.5 million Series C .

Could Bright and SolarMente partner one day? We’d say maybe. But first, SolarMente wants to further expand across Spain, where its subscription solar offer just became available nationwide, Draijer told TechCrunch.

Considering how sunny Spain is and how underequipped it still is, there’s no doubt that SolarMente has room to grow. Solar is one of the cleanest forms of energy, and the EU is determined to make sure it taps the giant ball of nuclear fusion in the sky to reduce its dependence on fossil fuels. Indeed, as part of the REPowerEU plan, the European Commission is considering a path to introduce rules that would mandate installation of rooftop solar energy panels on most new and public and commercial buildings by 2026.

While SolarMente’s focus on individual homes makes it a somewhat “upscale” offering, it can still play a part in reducing the stress that fluctuating energy prices have caused Spanish households. As a bonus, its approach could also play a role in facilitating EV adoption, another area in which Spain has room for improvement .

People are really disturbed by clip of young Leonardo DiCaprio and convicted child sex abuser

Brian Peck with a young Leonardo DiCaprio.

A resurfaced clip of Leonardo DiCaprio being referred to as the ‘hottest hunkiest teen idol’ by a now-convicted paedophile has left many people unsettled.

This week the documentary series Quiet on Set was released and detailed the ‘toxic work conditions’ on Nickelodeon children’s shows in the 1990s and early 2000s.

Although most of the allegations centred on Dan Schneider, the creator of iCarly and Zoey 101, former child star Drake Bell also spoke about being sexually abused by Nickelodeon dialogue and acting coach Brian Peck.

In one of the episodes, his father Joe Bell spoke about the behaviour he witnessed between Peck and his son behind-the-scenes that set alarm bells ringing.

During an emotional interview, he said: ‘Unfortunately, I started seeing Brian start to just hang around Drake too much and it didn’t sit well with me.’

He went on to explain that during their time on set he would notice the coach constantly entering his son’s dressing room and inappropriately and needlessly touching him.

A clip was then shown of Peck on the set of Growing Pains in 1991 with a then 15-year-old DiCaprio, with their interaction leaving many unsettled after being aware of how the dialogue coach was later sent to jail.

In the clip the 31-year-old is seen joking around with the teenager and says: ‘Leo’s job on the set is for some reason to make fun of me all day long.’

He then adds: ‘Leo is as you know the latest, hottest hunkiest teen idol there is.

After the young actor then flexes his muscles, Peck points to his biceps and exclaims: ‘Look speaking of hunky, huh?’

Following the clip airing in the series, many people shared their thoughts on social media.

‘This makes my skin crawl in so many ways’ one person shared on X.

Leonardo DiCaprio in Growing Pains.

‘This was hard to watch,’ someone else shared.

‘I remember seeing this and feeling weird,’ another added.

Referencing the clip in Quiet on Set, Bell said: ‘I saw this video of Brian Peck on Growing Pains with Leonardo DiCaprio grabbing his shoulders and running [his hand] down his arm. That’s the kind of behaviour I saw him with my son. The same freaking behaviour.’

Brian Peck in 2012.

In 2003, Peck was accused of molesting a child and spent 16 months in prison after being convicted of a lewd act against a child and oral copulation of a person under 16.

The identity of the child in the case against him remained anonymous at the time, however Bell came forward in Quiet on Set to reveal his identity and speak about what he was subjected to for the first time publicly.

He explained how the abuse was ‘extensive and got pretty brutal’.

DiCaprio has never indicated that he was a victim of Peck’s and has never publicly addressed their past association with him or Peck’s legal issues.

Drake Bell in Quiet on Set.

Peck was sentenced to 16 months in prison in October 2004 and registered as a sex offender

This week Schneider went on to has apologise for inappropriate behaviour on the set of his shows.

In a 20-minute video posted on YouTube on Tuesday, he called the series ‘difficult’ and ’embarrassing’ to watch.

‘Facing my past behaviours – some of which are embarrassing and that I regret – and I definitely owe some people a pretty strong apology,’ he said.

Metro.co.uk has contacted representatives for Leonardo DiCaprio for comment.

Quiet on Set is available to watch on Investigation Discovery in the United States.
