Seven stocks i like on the nasdaq market.

The Nasdaq Stock Market has been hitting new highs this year.

Nasdaq is a market with a dual personality. It’s home to most large technology companies, and also the place where a slew of smaller stocks in other industries are traded.

Tech stocks have been the stock market’s leaders last year and so far this year. Smaller stocks are starting to come alive.

Most investors head to the Nasdaq for technology exposure. That’s fine, but I wouldn’t ignore the small fry in other industries. Here are seven Nasdaq stocks I like now.

East West Bancorp EWBC EWBC Inc. , based in Pasadena, California, finances a lot of film and television projects. It’s also one of the few U.S. banks licensed to do business in China.

U.S.-China relations stink right now. And the major Presidential candidates (Joe Biden and Donald Trump) aren’t perceived as friendly to China. But neither was Richard Nixon, until he moved to open up a relationship with China in 1972.

Any thaw in the U.S.-China relationship would be good for East West. Meanwhile, it is doing pretty well, having increased its earnings by more than 14% a year over the past ten years.

Selling all kinds of agricultural equipment, from fertilizer to tractors, through a network of more than 3,000 dealers worldwide, Agco Inc. AGCO has been profitable in each of the past 24 years.

Over the past ten years, it has increased its earnings at better than a 14% clip (coincidentally the same as East West). Its return on stockholders’ equity lately has been running at 27%; I consider anything over 15% good. Yet the stock is cheap, selling for less than eight time recent earnings.

Legacy Housing LEGH

Based in Bedford, Texas, Legacy Housing Corp. makes manufactured homes and extra-small homes, serving the low end of the housing market.

Since the U.S. has a shortage of single-family homes, and since paying for a home is a strain from many families, I think this company occupies a useful niche. The company has very little debt, and the stock sells for nine times earnings.

Preformed Line

Preformed Line Products Co. (PLPC), which calls Cleveland, Ohio, home, makes equipment for power lines and phone lines. It also makes mounting systems for solar panels.

Over the past decade, Preformed has increased its earnings at a 19% annual pace. Last year growth was slower, at 7%. The stock sells for about 10 times earnings.

MasterCraft Boat

I’ve had poor luck with holdings in the boating industry. Nonetheless, I think that MasterCraft Boat Holdings Inc. (MCFT) looks intriguing.

The company, out of Vonore, Tennessee, makes sport boats and outboard boats. The pandemic boosted boat sales because it’s a form of recreation that is outdoors and doesn’t involve crowds. Lately boat makers’ sales have retreated, but if they level off, I like this stock at less than seven times earnings.

Alphabet GOOGL

We don’t want to neglect the big tech companies. Alphabet Inc. (GOOGL) is one of the Magnificent Seven stocks that have chalked up big gains – in Alphabet’s case, 373% over the past ten years.

Alphabet is the parent to Google GOOG , You Tube, Waymo and Deep Mind. Innovation is built into its culture, and the company has increased its earnings by an average of more than 21% a year over the past decade.

The stock is much more expensive than those discussed above, but I don’t think that 24 times earnings is too much to pay here.

Even more expensive, at 27 times earnings, is Apple Inc. (AAPL), the maker of iPhones and Mac computers. Here there are worries but also great strengths.

Earnings growth, which averaged better than 16% over the past decade, slowed to 9% last year. The iPhone faces increased competition from Huawei in China. And the company’s debt has climbed to 146% of equity.

Nonetheless, I still like Apple. It has a large and loyal following, and a history of successfully pulling rabbits out of hats in product development.

Track Record

Every year in March, I write about my favorite stocks on the Nasdaq. Over 17 years, the average 12-month return on my recommendations has been 19.2%. The beats the average return on the Nasdaq Composite Index (16.3%) and the Standard & Poor’s 500 Total Return Index (13.0%).

Bear in mind that my column results are hypothetical and shouldn’t be confused with results I obtain for clients. Also, past performance doesn’t predict the future.

My picks from a year ago climbed 23.8%, which beat the Nasdaq Composite (20.8%) but not the S&P 500 (31.6%). The best performer was Taylor Morrison Home TMHC Corp. (TMHC), up 57%. The worst was Cirrus Logic CRUS Inc. (CRUS), down 15%.

NEW YORK – The media company Gannett , the nation's largest newspaper chain and publisher of USA Today, said Tuesday it would stop using journalism from The Associated Press later this month, severing a century-old partnership.

The decision “enables us to invest further in our newsrooms,” Gannett spokeswoman Lark-Marie Anton said. With more than 200 outlets, the chain represents more newspapers than any other company in AP's U.S. membership.

A memo from Gannett's chief content officer Kristin Roberts directed the chain's editors to stop using stories, videos and images provided by AP on March 25. The memo, obtained by The Associated Press, was first reported by The New York Times.

“We are shocked and disappointed to see this memo,” said Lauren Easton, spokeswoman for The Associated Press. “Our conversations with Gannett have been productive and ongoing. We remain hopeful that Gannett will continue to support the AP beyond the end of their membership term at the end of 2024, as they have done for over a century.”

Neither company would discuss how much Gannett has been paying to receive AP content.

In an earlier era, when fees from U.S. newspapers provided AP with virtually all of its revenue, such a decision would have represented a financial earthquake for the news cooperative. But AP has diversified its services with the decline of newspapers and U.S. newspaper fees now constitute just over 10 percent of its annual income.

Gannett said that it has signed an agreement with Reuters to provide news from around the world in multiple formats, including video.

“Key to this initiative is ensuring that we extend the reach of the work we do to more readers, viewers and listeners nationwide,” Roberts said in her memo.

AP's diversification efforts include offering its journalism directly to consumers through an advertising-supported website . The company also provides production services and software to newsrooms across the world. This week, AP launched an e-commerce site called AP Buyline , run by the company Taboola, that provides product content and reviews for consumers.

Gannett said it would continue paying for two of AP's most visible services: its extensive election-related polling and vote-counting, and the AP Stylebook that sets guidelines for journalism practices and word usage.

With a contract for AP's content that lasts to the end of 2024, it was not clear why Gannett is choosing to cut things off next week. While there remains the possibility that it represents a negotiating tactic for AP to lower its fees, Anton said she was not aware of any contract negotiations.

Like most newspaper companies, Gannett has been struggling financially for several years. The workforce shrank 47% between 2020 and 2023 because of layoffs and attrition, according to the NewsGuild.

First ship carrying aid arrives in Gaza as Israel faces backlash for blocking land routes

TEL AVIV — A private aid ship docked off the coast of Gaza early Friday, carrying the first nautical delivery for hungry Palestinians while tons of food and supplies sit on idling trucks in Egypt , waiting for permission to enter the besieged enclave.

The Open Arms, named after the Spanish charity that transported the supplies, towed a barge containing flour, rice and protein to the enclave, where five months of war have left around a quarter of its 2.3 million residents “one step away” from famine, according to the United Nations, which has noted that children have already died from malnutrition and dehydration.

The food was collected by World Central Kitchen, the charity founded by celebrity chef José Andrés, which operates a network of around 60 kitchens across the Gaza Strip. “Our goal is to establish a maritime highway of boats and barges stocked with millions of meals continuously headed towards Gaza,” Andrés and the NGO’s CEO, Erin Gore, said in a statement Tuesday, when the ship set sail on the roughly 200-mile voyage from the Larnaca port in Cyprus.

The nongovernmental organization said in a separate statement Friday that preparations were underway to move the goods onto a jetty built from destroyed rubble, although it was not immediately clear when that would happen.

The new nautical route — as well as recent aid airdrops into northern Gaza — comes amid increasing international frustration about the growing humanitarian crisis in the enclave and the inability to get enough aid in by road.

The U.S. and many of its international partners have been pushing to speed up the flow of humanitarian assistance into Gaza. But Israel has tightly controlled the entry of aid, which has been delivered by trucks through the country’s Kerem Shalom border crossing or the Rafah border crossing with Egypt .

Aid groups have said their efforts have been hampered because of the difficulty coordinating with the Israeli military, as well as ongoing fighting and the breakdown of public order, which have led to the looting of several convoys. As a result, only a small fraction of what is needed has entered the enclave, the agencies have said.

The Israel Defense Forces said the aid ship delivery was being carried out “in coordination with Israeli security and civilian authorities, in accordance with the directive of the government of Israel and at the request of the U.S. government.” It added that all the equipment on the ship underwent a comprehensive security check and was accompanied by Israeli officials.

Seperately, IDF spokesperson, Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari suggested to reporters Wednesday that more routes could open up and that Israel was “trying to flood the area” with aid.

His comments came hours after the U.N. agency for Palestinian refugees said in a statement Wednesday that at least one of its staff members was killed and 22 others were injured in an Israeli strike on one of its food distribution centers in southern Gaza. The IDF acknowledged the strike but said in a statement that it had killed Muhammad Abu Hasna, a Hamas commander who it said was taking aid and giving it to the militant group.

And on Thursday, the Palestinian Health Ministry in Gaza said a number of people were killed and dozens of others were injured while waiting for the expected arrival of aid.

NBC News could not independently verify this, but the IDF said it was assessing the incident. Reports that its forces attacked dozens of Gazans at an aid distribution point were “false,” it said in a statement.

These came after several incidents last month when people were killed as they tried to access aid.

Facing growing political pressure at home and abroad to do more to help Palestinians, even as the  U.S. continues to supply Israel with military hardware , President Joe Biden announced last week that the U.S. military will construct a temporary port in Gaza to get more humanitarian aid into the territory by sea.

But that was criticized by aid groups, including Médecins Sans Frontières, or Doctors Without Borders, whose executive director, Avril Benoît, said last week that the U.S. “should insist on immediate humanitarian access using the roads and entry points that already exist.”

Ciaran Donnelly, the vice president of crisis response at the International Rescue Committee, said the port was a “distraction” and called on the Biden administration to find “alternative solutions in aid delivery.”

In Gaza's southernmost city of Rafah some residents, including Zohir Donna, questioned the wisdom of building a new port, when aid trucks were ready and waiting to cross the land border with Egypt nearby. Donna, who moved to the city from the Al-Shati refugee camp in northern Gaza after the start of the war, said the aid was “only five minutes from where we are.”

Rafah resident Mostafa Gamal Elian also said the “crossing should be open, and the aid should pass through it.”

The State Department did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the port, but Secretary of State Antony Blinken said Wednesday that the maritime corridor was not meant to be a substitute for other ways of getting aid into Gaza. “Overland routes remain the most critical way to get assistance in and then to people who need it,” he said.

In the meantime, World Central Kitchen said it had 500 more tons of aid ready to depart from Cyprus to Gaza, where health officials say more than 31,000 people have been killed since Oct. 7.

Israeli military officials said at least 245 soldiers have been killed since the  ground invasion of Gaza  began. Officials in the country said around 1,200 people were killed in the Oct. 7 attacks and around 240 others were taken hostage. Officials say 134 remain in Gaza after dozens were freed in exchange for Palestinian prisoners in late November, although a number of them are dead.

Birdland Park's transformation could start next year. Get a sneak peek at the first plans:

Des Moines is inching closer to breaking ground on an estimated $54 million plan to transform Birdland Park and Marina on the shores of the Des Moines River.

A nature playscape, a skating ribbon and new boat ramp are just the tip of the iceberg on a five-phase plan to turn the park at 2100 Saylor Road into a resort-like recreational area that will be the "crown jewel of the north side," said city park planner Colby Fangman.

The city on Wednesday held an open house at the park's Ding Darling Enclosed Shelter to show off renderings of the planned first phase and get feedback from residents. The phase one master plan improvements have been underway since early 2023 and city officials say the design plans are nearly 60% complete .

With its planned renovations, Fangman said he hopes the park becomes a regional destination for residents and visitors that's "on par with Gray's Lake, if not better."

"And it's already got good bones," Fangman said. "This thing is a diamond in the rough. It really just needs a good injection of facility improvements and we think even this first phase is going to get us to that feel that this is a regional park."

What does the master plan look like?

The master plan , written in 2021, seeks to enhance connections between Birdland, the Des Moines River and the Union Park neighborhood and make the park a regional destination that capitalizes on its proximity to the river.

The plan, created along with stakeholders such as park users, Captain Roy's restaurant owners , the Des Moines Rowing Club, and organizers for Central Iowa Water Trails, outlines four major areas — a boathouse, a play area, an expanded marina and a River Gateway that would connect pedestrians and drivers from Saylor Road to the Des Moines River.

Additionally, the plan calls for reconfiguring and expanding current biking and walking trails, dredging the park's lagoon, restoring wetlands, adding three fishing piers and moving and expanding Captain Roy's.

Fangman said it's hard to know a completion date for the entire project, but the proposed phases allow portions of the Birdland Park and Marina to remain open and operating while other areas are improved.

What's slated for phase 1?

Phase one is broken down into two parts, which will include the construction of a boat ramp, trail improvements, an all-season skating ribbon and a playscape. The total cost is estimated at $10 million, according to Fangman.

Construction will be split into two parts. First, which is focused mainly on the west side of the park past Second Avenue and is estimated to cost $3 million, includes:

• A connection from the Neal Smith Trail to the Second Avenue Bridge . The Neal Smith between Second and Sixth avenues will be rehabilitated to include elevating a portion by 3 feet and building two open-air shelters off the trail with grill pits, bike racks, and electrical power. The Central Place Trail also will eventually connect to the park on the west side of the Des Moines River.
• A new motorboat ramp, which will provide improved access to the public, as well as emergency response. The boat ramp next to Captain Roy's will remain, but it'll be scaled down for kayaks and canoes.
• New parking lot for cars, trucks and trailers.

The second part, which will be on the east side of the park, includes:

• A skating ribbon that can be used in the winter and summertime.
• A traffic safety garden to teach children how to navigate urban environments like crosswalks.
• A nature playscape that will resemble a logjam structure.
• Scaling down the parking lot near Ding Darling Shelter off Saylor Road. Parking will instead be disseminated throughout Birdland.
• Rehabilitating the pathways throughout the park, and creating seating walls throughout.
• A deck over the lagoon on the backside of the Ding Darling Shelter.
• ADA accessibility throughout the park, including the playground and the deck.

How will the project be funded?

The city is applying for a $5.3 million grant though the Iowa Department of Natural Resources for the National Park Service's Land and Water Conservation Fund Outdoor Recreation Legacy Partnership Grants Program .

The grant would help fund the phase one improvements, as well as part of the ICON Water Trails project within Birdland Park by the Guzman Building, which houses the Des Moines Rowing Club and a Parks and Recreation maintenance shop. Birdland Park long has been a focal point for the $125 million ICON Water Trails project , which would transform 150 miles of waterway into a connected recreational amenity. Under that plan, Birdland would serve as the main put-in location for paddlers and rafters heading to  whitewater features  to be constructed in the Des Moines River downtown.

The city will likely hear whether it received the grant by the start of 2025.

Fangman said if the grant funding is not awarded this year, they will pursue the award again next year alongside other grants.

When does construction start on Birdland Park?

Depending on grant funding and Des Moines City Council approval, construction on the first improvements could start as soon as the spring of 2025, according to Fangman.

3 dead as Ohio tornadoes prompt mass casualty response in Logan County

At least three people are dead as a result of a series of severe storms that ravaged Ohio on Thursday night, spawning a series of 20 tornado warnings across the state and knocking out power to thousands.For the second time in as many weeks , storms and likely tornadoes tore through Ohio.

Authorities in Logan County are dealing with a mass casualty incident where at least three people died in tornado that struck a trailer park near Indian Lake , located about 70 miles northwest of Columbus. The National Weather Service confirmed as of 2 p.m. Friday that at least four tornadoes touched down across Ohio.

Logan County Sheriff Randy Dodds said the number of deaths could increase as rescue efforts continue.

"It's one hell of a mess up there," Dodds said. "It looks like a war zone." 

Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine: 'There's an awful lot of damage'

Dodds said there were areas where first responders could not search overnight because of debris and downed power lines that made it unsafe. He said there is anticipation that there may be more people found dead during searches that will continue Friday morning.

Dodds said there are areas where a single home may have remained untouched while everything around it has been leveled.

"The power of this thing is just amazing. It hopped around but when you look at it, it's just amazing." 

Officials including Gov. DeWine, Lt. Gov. Jon Husted, Senate President Matt Huffman and others held a news conference at around 3:30 Friday to give an update on the recovery.

DeWine drove through the Indian Lake area before the press conference to talk with home owners and those impacted by the storms.

"There's an awful lot of damage," he said.

DeWine said the Indian Lake community will rebound from the tragedy.

"The Indian Lake community will come back. That's the message I got from everybody," DeWine said at Indian Lake High School.

State Rep. Jon Cross, R-Findlay, who represents part of the area, said lawmakers have to work with the governor to get the community back open.

"This is a community that relies on tourism," Cross said. "We have devastated businesses that lost everything. We need to get these businesses back open.

Ohio's emergency operations center activated Thursday night during the severe weather and continues to coordinate damage assessment and clean-up efforts with local, state and federal agencies.

“Fran and I are deeply saddened by those impacted by the tornadoes and severe storms,” DeWine said in a statement issued shortly before noon. “We share the grief of the families who lost loved ones, homes, and livelihoods.  Ohioans will come together as they always do with resilience and compassion as we support and rebuild our communities.”

Indian Lake residents assess Ohio tornado damage

Indian Lake resident Blaine Schmitt was working outside his home last night when his wife called him.

She warned him about the tornado and told him to get into the bathtub. He gathered his dog and friend, Greg McDougle, and hunkered down in the bathroom.

Over the next few minutes, the tornado swept through Schmitt's home, shredding the front wall and scattering debris in his yard.

"It sounded like a freight train literally went through the living room," Schmitt said.

Luckily, Schmitt and McDougle managed to get through the storm unscathed.

"I thank God that I'm alive and that my kids weren't here. It was very emotional when I first got here, and it's been emotional ever since then. But I pray every day and it paid off," Schmitt said.

McDougle used to live next door with his father. He sold the home two years ago, and it was being renovated when the storm hit. Now, all that remains is scattered debris, a single flattened wall, and the foundation.

"This is what's left. No one was living here, and thank God for that," McDougle said.

Logan County resident describes tornadoes: 'It's a noise you'll never forget'

As storms approached Logan County late Thursday, Loretta Kinney told her goddaughter Lucy there was nothing to be afraid of.

Kinney and her brother walked Lucy home and by the time they returned to their own house, Kinney said she realized just how wrong she was. The two headed down to the basement and waited out a storm and likely tornadoes that rolled across the Midwest and the Indian Lake region about 70 miles northwest of Columbus.

By the time they'd emerge, Kinney would come to find out that at least three people had died and homes and businesses around the county had been ripped apart.

"Just the noise. When they say you hear a train, it's a noise you'll never forget," Kinney said. "Then to come up and see it, it is so surreal. Even though I'm standing here and looking at everything it doesn't seem real."

Shelter opens for Indian Lake storm victims

The Logan County Emergency Management Agency said it's opened a shelter for victims of Thursday night's storm at the Church of God located at 1000 E Brown Ave.

The United Way of Logan County also established a relief fund where monetary donations can be made to assist residents who have been impacted by the storms.

Donations can be made online to the Indian Lake Tornado Relief Fund at  www.uwlogan.org  and 100% of donations will go to help community members recover in both the short and long-term from the storms.

Possible tornado strikes Lakeview, Indian Lake: 'People's homes are destroyed'

Columbus Dispatch Photographer Doral Chenoweth arrived in the area before midnight and reported finding extensive damage, including a destroyed trailer park with tractor trailers and RVs overturned and large trees uprooted. In Lakeview, the library and a government building were damaged.

"Every building in Lakeview and every building here has some form of damage," he said, from a spot near Lakeview. "People's homes are destroyed."

The Logan EMA confirmed for The Dispatch that a trailer park in the Indian Lake area just north of Lakeview was struck by a tornado or at least very high winds that have caused extensive damage. The community also reported having a shortage of ambulances.

An NWS spokesman said he couldn't confirm that a tornado struck the community but said there was "reports of a lot of damage there." The NWS will send investigators out Friday to confirm the tornadoes as it did last month when nine were confirmed across Ohio .

Thursday's Ohio storms were part of a larger system that pushed through the Midwest beginning in the afternoon and into the evening.

The Indiana State Police said there are “many significant injuries” after a tornado tore through the community of Winchester, AP reported.

“There have been many, many significant injuries, but I don’t know the number. I don’t know where they are. I don’t know what those injuries are,” Indiana State Police Superintendent Douglas Carter told reporters just before midnight Thursday. “There’s a lot that we don’t know yet.”

The National Weather Service in Wilmington and Cleveland issued 20 tornado warnings based on a review of social media posts. That does not include multiple thunderstorms and other alerts.

Indian Lake volunteers continue search for people impacted by storms

Emergency personnel conducted "grid searches" Friday morning in the impacted areas where the storm struck, the sheriff said.

Grid searches are methodical searches using a grid pattern to ensure that all areas can be checked without duplicating efforts and minimizing the risk of missing an area.

The sheriff said there are areas that first responders are able to access during the daylight that were not accessible Thursday night because of downed power lines and concerns about gas leaks. Those areas are now being searched. Crews are also researching areas that were searched Thursday night to ensure that no one who needed medical assistance was missed.

While there has been a "plethora" of volunteers who have arrived on the scene, Dodds said volunteers are more likely to be necessary as the searches conclude and the clean-up effort begins. 

The Central Ohio Strike Team mobilized Friday morning to go to the Indian Lake area to help with the ongoing emergency response. The strike team, one of five regional teams across the state that are specially trained to respond when there are large-scale disasters, includes firefighters from every agency in Franklin County.

The members of the strike team receive special training on how to do search and rescue operations in the event of structure collapses, as well as how to do rescue operations in confined spaces and machinery extractions. 

AEP transmission towers toppled in Delaware County

AEP Ohio confirmed that the storms toppled six transmission towers near Olentangy Berlin High School. As of 9:15 a.m. Friday, the number of customers without power had risen to more than 13,000. 

Photos posted by the utility company on social media show the tower on its side. The tower fell into other power lines in the area. 

AEP issued a statement Friday afternoon saying more than 30 power lines came down in the storm, as well as six transmission towers in Delaware County.

The utility company said the goal is to have power restored to as many customers as possible on Friday, however, some customers who get their power from the high-voltage transmission towers could face a potential multi-day outage. AEP said as more information is gathered throughout Friday afternoon, those affected customers will receive an automated phone call. 

Specks and tatters of insulation lined sidewalks and the sides of houses at the Pine of Berlin Station, a subdivision near Berlin Middle School. Debris from inside houses — books, crayons, a broken pair of child’s glasses — were scattered in the grass.

“Someone else’s roof is in my kitchen,” said Katie Sprinkle, who weathered the storm with her husband and two kids, ages 9 and 11. The storm terrified her 9-year-old daughter.

“Pray loud, mom,” she said her daughter told her.

The kids wore bike helmets to protect themselves from falling debris, and her husband placed an overturned canoe over them. The family could hear windows breaking in the wind. It sounded like an explosion, Sprinkle said.

Delaware County road closures due to Thursday's storms

Several major traffic routes in Delaware County remained closed as of 7 a.m. Friday because of debris in the roadway. Ohio 315, closed between Hyatts Road and U.S. 23, is expected to remain closed at least through morning rush hour.

The Delaware County Sheriff's office is asking that people avoid the area where the aftermath of the storms are and avoid sightseeing. There are continued concerns about live wires and large trees in the roads.

In a post on Facebook Friday morning, the Delaware County Sheriff's office said crews have been working throughout the night to try and clear roadways but there are areas where debris continues to block roads. 

The sheriff's office asked for additional travel time and patience from drivers, as well as willingness to take alternate routes. 

The sheriff's office said that as of 5 a.m. Friday, a number of roads remained impassable. Those roads included: 

• Portions of Berlin Station Road near Glenn Parkway, between Kingsbury and Braumiller, between Piatt and Dale Ford
• Portions of Bunty Station east of Liberty Road
• Africa Road north of Cheshire
• Portions of Rome Corners
• Portions of Walnut Road and Piatt Road
• Portions of Ohio 3

Tornado warnings from Thursday night's deadly tornadoes

Storms hit indiana, kentucky and northern, central and southern ohio.

At least three confirmed tornadoes touched down Thursday afternoon in southern Indiana and north-central Kentucky Thursday, leaving dozens of structures damaged or destroyed,  The Louisville Courier-Journal reported .

Tornadoes were confirmed near Hanover and Marion in Indiana and near Milton in Kentucky. As for Ohio, officials have said it's too early to say just how widespread the storms were, or whether any confirmed tornadoes touched down.

Meteorologist Steve Harbenach of the National Weather Service in Wilmington said there have been several radar confirmations of possible tornadoes across Ohio, but added "we really have no idea right now how many tornadoes we had."

"There have been numerous areas where we've had reports of damage," he added. "It's going to take a while for us to sort through that. it's going to take multiple days for us to sort through this to see what happened."

An X user who was driving from Lima and passing through Logan took pictures of the extensive damage. In the post on X, he said authorities told him that he had missed a tornado "by about 2 minutes." He could not confirm if there were any casualties but said that a large section of U.S. Route 33 northwest of Marysville would remain closed as authorities assessed the damage.

Tornado watches remained in effect until midnight in dozens of Ohio counties, including Delaware, Fairfield, Fayette, Franklin, Hocking, Licking, Madison, Pickaway, Union, Ross, Butler, Clinton, Hamilton, Warren, Champaign, Clark, Drake, Greene, Logan, Miami, Montgomery, Preble and Shelby.

Severe thunderstorm warnings remained in effect for Franklin and Madison counties until 11 p.m. Thursday.

Swift, 34, is not set to take the stage for her Eras Tour for another two months after wrapping up her concerts in Asia and Australia.

Amid their respective breaks from their careers, the A-list couple are reportedly nesting at the pop star’s Los Angeles estate.
