Swansea Yacht & Sub-Aqua Club is located on the river Tawe close to the entrance to Swansea Marina. We have a clubhouse, marina, boat yard and fully equipped diving club building. Our club members include Yachtsmen (Cruising and Racing), Motor Boat users, Rowers, Anglers, Divers and social members.

The club marina is home to approximately 200 members boats with an adjoining boat yard and lift. The diving section has two large RIBs, diving equipment, an air compressor and nitrox blending facility.

SYSAC is a members club but visitors will be most warmly welcomed into our clubhouse for a drink and a meal.

(WJAR) — A federal judge puts an end to the lawsuit filed by the owners of Johnson’s Pond against the state of Rhode Island.

Soscia Holdings, a local family company, sued the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management in 2022, challenging the state law signed by the governor that summer requiring the pond owners get DEM permission to raise and lower water levels.

DEM subsequently found Soscia in violation of the law.

State Senator Lou Raptakis (D-Coventry, West Greenwich) was among those who pushed for those rules.

“It's a win for the state of Rhode Island. But there's still a lot of work to do,” Raptakis said of the ruling Monday.

In dismissing Soscia’s complaint, U.S. District Judge Landya McCafferty wrote Soscia did not make any factual allegations to show the new law was “unreasonable or unnecessary to protect an important public interest.”

Soscia's lawyer, Patrick Dougherty, told NBC 10 Monday they will appeal, they “respectfully disagree” with the ruling, and will “keep fighting” to protect their property rights.

The 2022 law was a response to residents’ complaints about Soscia after they bought the pond’s dam and water rights two years earlier.

Residents complained Soscia was manipulating water levels, at times leaving boats and wildlife stuck in the mud.

Dougherty has adamantly argued all along Soscia acted within the rights of a lease with the town of Coventry, which allows recreational use of the water.

That 15-year lease is set to expire at the end of this week.

In January, Soscia warned residents to get their docks and boats out of the water by then.

Earlier this month, the town of Coventry filed a court motion seeking preemptively to stop Soscia from potentially draining the pond by altering or removing the dam when the lease ends.

Dougherty calls the claim they would destroy the dam, “blatant misrepresentation."

Dougherty also told NBC10 he does not anticipate anything dramatic happening when the lease runs out at the end of the week.

The lawyer for the town is holding a press conference Wednesday.
