Phi Phi Island is Thailand’s island-superstar. It’s been in the movies. It’s the topic of conversation for travelers all over Thailand. For some, it’s the only reason to a touchdown in Phuket. Even with all the hype, it doesn’t disappoint. Phi Phi’s beauty is a large chunk of the allure. The islands, when approached by boat, rise from the sea like a fortress. Sheer cliffs tower overhead, then give way to beach-fronted jungle. It’s love at first sight. The second part of the why-we-love-this-place story is attitude: few places on the planet are this laid-back. Of the two islands located near Phuket and Krabi, one is completely free of human inhabitants (Phi Phi Leh), and the other is without roads (Phi Phi Don). There’s no schedule, no hustle-and-bustle, no reason to be in a hurry.
Koh Khai Nok has a lot to offer, despite its relatively small size. In the center of the island stands a series of interconnecting stalls and restaurants selling everything from T-shirts to sarongs to handicraft souvenirs. There is even a small dive shop with remarkably reasonable prices. This part of the island has a bazaar-like atmosphere and it’s also a shady place to hang out. Koh Khai Nok is a small island tucked away in Phang Nga Bay. It’s only 30 minutes or so away from the east coast of Phuket but ask anyone on the island if they’ve been there and you will probably draw a blank stare. Still, a hidden gem is sometimes all the more precious for being so and when we discovered a half day tour was going there we lepta at the opportunity to try it out.

Phi Phi Maya Pileh Lagoon
Phi Phi Don and Phi Phi Leh are the two main islands in the six-island archipelago. These postcard-perfect Southeast Asian islands are a 45-minute speedboat or 90-minute ferryboat ride from Phuket or Krabi.
Phi Phi boasts beautiful beaches, limestone formations, and blue waters with colourful marine life. The smaller, deserted Phi Phi Leh boasts stunning coves and beaches, notably Maya Bay, while the larger, inhabited Phi Phi Don draws thousands of tourists.
One of Koh Phi Phi Leh’s most stunning locations is Pi Leh Bay. It is like a canyon and nearly divides Koh Phi Phi Leh in two. It is also known as Ao Pileh, Pileh Lagoon, Pileh Cove, or Pi Ley Cove. The major arrival/departure dock on Koh Phi Phi Don, Tonsai Bay, is about 30 minutes away from this location on the eastern side of the island, a few hundred metres south of Viking Cave.
