• SA : Sail area in square feet, derived by adding the mainsail area to 100% of the foretriangle area (the lateral area above the deck between the mast and the forestay).
• D : Displacement in pounds.

Ballast / Displacement Ratio

A measure of the stability of a boat's hull that suggests how well a monohull will stand up to its sails. The ballast displacement ratio indicates how much of the weight of a boat is placed for maximum stability against capsizing and is an indicator of stiffness and resistance to capsize.

Displacement / Length Ratio

A measure of the weight of the boat relative to it's length at the waterline. The higher a boat’s D/L ratio, the more easily it will carry a load and the more comfortable its motion will be. The lower a boat's ratio is, the less power it takes to drive the boat to its nominal hull speed or beyond. Read more.

D/L = (D ÷ 2240) ÷ (0.01 x LWL)³

• D: Displacement of the boat in pounds.
• LWL: Waterline length in feet

Comfort Ratio

This ratio assess how quickly and abruptly a boat’s hull reacts to waves in a significant seaway, these being the elements of a boat’s motion most likely to cause seasickness. Read more.

At desperatesailors.com , we love to blog about unique boat designs. Today, we’d like to post brief information on Clipper 60 sailboats. There have only been 11 Clipper 60’s built, so it’s a rare jewel to find these days. But as far as we know, at least some are still in the use (mostly privately, or by charter companies).

Anyway, here’s what we’ve been able to find when scouring the internet looking for any information on those boats.

Meet The Clipper 60 Sailboat

Clipper 60 Taeping and Clipper 60 Serica were two of the entrants in the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race race. The format was conceived in 1995 by the famous round the world yachtsman Sir Robin Knox-Johnson and on 16 October 1996 eight, Clipper 60s left Plymouth to race around the World.

The race offered paying amateur crew members the chance to sail around the world, aboard a fleet of identical yachts. The route is based on that of the traditional Tea Clippers, following the prevailing wind and currents. Both Taeping and Serica also completed the race in 1998, 2000, and 2002.

The fleet of eight Clipper 60s was built by Colvic Craft in Essex using the design of the proven Camper and Nicholson Bluewater 58, a prestigious cruising yacht designed by the American designer David Pedrick. Modifications were made to the cruising version and included a new deck layout better suited to Ocean Racing and an enlarged rig.

The inboard engine has been removed and the inboard engine through-hole has been glassed over. No hauling it out and replacing the inboard engine seal! And no risk of boat sinking from the engine. Seacocks have been capped off from outside. Better this way as the risk of them breaking and sinking the boat is not an issue. Seacocks aren't used anyway, onboard holding tank is used instead. Most everywhere the boat has received a fresh coat of marine paint. In the last year the rails and old railing rusty bolts have been removed, bolt holes for railings treated with hardening epoxy and sealant, and rails reinstalled to the deck with new stainless steel bolts. At this time new cleats were also installed to the deck and bolts and bolt holes also retreated as the railing bolts were. A leaky window in the V-berth was deleted and sealed over with fiberglass. The window was not useful where it was located and would leak on rainy days so I had it removed. All external lights were replaced with new stainless steel lights that work great. Maintenance has definitely been kept up on this one. The inside has been gutted of the original 1973 equipment and rebuilt with updated materials, appliances, and furnishings. There is a living room, full kitchen (cabinets, sink, stove, oven, microwave), full bathroom with Raritan head, and shower, office, two different large storage areas, and a V-berth at the bow. There's also an upper deck for sun-bathing A custom outboard hoist has been installed on the stern. There are two NS-25 Nissan outboard engines mounted on the hoist for a total of 50 HP. They start and run great, these are extremely well built according to ouboard mechanics that have serviced them. Underpowered? Sure... shes not meant to go fast, but she will pass any harbor's requirement for the boat to be self-propelled as a lot of harbors require the boat to have working engines. 30 gallon tank for the new Raritan super flush head. 120v 6 gallon hot water heater. Three bilge pumps with water level sensors pump out water at three main collection areas of the bilge. There is a bilge vent installed where the old blower motor was so that there is adequate airflow in the bilge. The shower works off of pressurized shore water hookup, no 12v pump. 120v breakers for all electrical outlets and appliances. 12v +/- panels with all fuses working. Brand new marine grade water resistant 30A electrical cable to connect shore power. Recently installed stainless steel hose cable to connect to shore water. Standard marine band radio with antenna on roof. A custom internet system will come with boat. This is a special houseboat. She's very cozy inside and she's sure to charm you. Reason for selling is decided to buy sailboat.

I purchased it from the family of the original owner. It was in very good condition, however it had the original very basic outfitting, being used primarily as a daysailer. The bottom was done last year. Every thing you will need is there and is brand new: flares, fire extinguishers, dishes, pots/pans, silverware, cooking utensils, life rings, and more. There is also an ICOM BC-152 Handheld VHS Radio. An additional Genoa and two Spinnaker sails are included. I also have a like new Zodiac 260RU with Nissan 3.5 HP Outboard in excellent condition that is not included but I will sell for an additional $1,000. I just spent almost $400 getting the outboard completely overhauled to insure perfect running condition. Here are the specification for the DuFour 27: LOA 27'3", Beam 9'2", Draft 5'2", Headroom 6', Engine Volvo Diesel MD6A 10 hp. After all this work, why am I selling? I am an ordained minister and I am going to be doing missionary work full-time overseas for the next three years. I actually live in Edenton, NC and the Dufour 27 is berthed in Norfolk, VA. Choosing the neighborhood of your future residence is a task to be treated with diligence. Poor transport accessibility, a lacking infrastructure and unsatisfactory ecological parameters may noticeably dampen the joy a new property owner is sure to feel from their purchase. To help you avoid such a scenario, we have put together a short overview of the areas in Moscow where you may be considering the purchase of a home , complete with the pros and cons of each of the different locations:

Arbat District – the cultural and business center of Moscow. One of the most prestigious locations in the capital. It boasts a very good infrastructure and high transport accessibility. Unsurprisingly, the property costs here are the highest in Moscow. Despite its small size, the district contains around 10% of all of the capital’s new elite residential buildings, and apartments for sale make up 96% of the properties on the market in this neighborhood. The price of a square meter (3.28 sqft) for an apartment in a new building with penthouses is, on average, 12 000 USD, while the cost of the same in an old building is 9 000 USD. One can even find luxury condos with open terraces for sale in the area.

Kuntsevo District – a beautiful locality surrounded by vast areas of woodland and river beaches on the banks of Moskva River. A strong point of this neighborhood is its good environmental conditions. Brand new and modern residential compounds have been erected here. One square meter (3.28 sqft) of an apartment in a new housing complex in Kuntsevo District currently costs 3 000 USD.

Yakimanka District – one of the most interesting and prestigious areas of Moscow by popular opinion. It is packed full of well-known historic monuments, museums and large parks. The Yakimanka District changed drastically during the Soviet era: most of the centuries-old low-rise houses and mansions were completely demolished or restructured. By the beginning of the 1990’s, new residential and public complexes had already taken their place. Today, one can find condos for sale in Yakimanka’s new residential complexes for the average price of 11 000 USD per square meter (3.28 sqft). The price of a square meter in a Soviet era panel building is 4 000 USD.

Here in Russia’s capital we have our own skyscrapers – grouped together in the compound famously dubbed Moscow-City (the Moscow International Business Center). Many large corporations have their headquarters here. For 1 million US dollars you can purchase a 3-room apartment with a floor area of 607 sqft (185 m²) in one of the towers. This particular listing is located on the 25 th floor.

Where Can I Find Cheap Flats?

If you happen to be a student or if your budget is capped at 300 000 USD and you are looking for cheap condos for sale in Moscow, then the Mitino, Nekrasovka, Cheryomushki, Butovo and Novogireyevo Districts will best suit your needs. These neighborhoods each contain a great number of residential complexes inhabited by Moscow’s middle class. They also have everything one might need for a comfortable life: many schools, kindergartens, big supermarkets, public pools, hospitals, etc. One of Moscow’s Metro stations is also usually just a short walk away. The minimum price of a furnished studio flat in a location within the Moscow Ring Road (a.k.a. MKAD) is currently 100 000 USD.
