49m 007 sinks in Greece
The 2006 aegean superyacht currently sits semi-submerged after hitting rocks, with no loss of life reported….
49m motor yacht 007 has been reported sunk in Greece. The incident occurred near the Greek island of Kythnos over the weekend of 3/4th September. Local news outlets have reported that the Syros Port Authority has attended the scene and no injuries or loss of life have been recorded. The vessel apparently hit rocks after navigating into the bay at night.
The below clip shows the vessel in its semi-submerged state, with MARPOL anti-pollution barriers surrounding it. It has been reported by local media that it is not leaking pollutants at this stage.
A full statement from the Greek Coast Guard says:
In the evening hours of Friday, the Port Authority of Kythnos received information from the Unified Center for the Coordination of Search and Rescue Operations Λ.Σ.-ΕΛ.ΑΚΤ. five foreign passengers. The vessel Ε/Π σκάφος “ΔΕΛΤΑ ΙΙ” Τ.Σαρωνικού 4760 rushed to the area with an employee of the relevant port authority on board, where it found the above vessel half-submerged, at a distance of about 15 meters from the western side of the sandy beach of Kolonas Bay. The passengers, all in good health, were transferred to a support boat and then taken to the port of Merihas. The port of Kythnos is conducting a preliminary investigation, and no pollution of the marine environment has been observed since the incident.
007 was delivered in 2006 by Bodrum-based shipyard Aegean Yachts, at an LOA of 32m. Subsequently, it underwent multiple refits to extend its LOA to 49m. None of these extensions were undertaken at the Aegean yard.

Salvage operation underway for grounded superyacht 007 in Greece
A salvage operation is ongoing to remove the 49-metre (160-foot) Aegean Yacht 007 from her current resting place in the waters of Kythnos, in the Cyclades island chain in Greece. The yacht was hoisted into an upright position early on 21 st March, and a post by the mayor of Kythnos, Mr Stamatios Garderis, observed “it’s a matter of hours to remove 007”. The salvage operation began on 6 th March.
Prior to the removal, the semi-submerged superyacht had been in the same spot since she ran aground and listed in the late hours on 2 nd September 2022.
It is understood that the incident occurred when the yacht struck an underwater obstacle as a result of a failure in the navigation system and began to take on water. Allegedly, she was then deliberately grounded to avoid sinking in deep water.
The local Coast Guard confirmed that 007 was resting on shallow rocks around 15m (49ft) from the shoreline.
Authorities were quick to contain any potential pollution or debris within a floating sea wall but the extent of the damage to the local area is not yet known. At the time of the incident, five passengers were safely rescued from the yacht.
007 was delivered in 2006 by Bodrum-based shipyard Aegean Yacht as a 32m (104ft) yacht. She has been extended twice since delivery, bringing her total LOA up to 49m (160ft).

VIDEO: 007 superyacht sinks in Greece
Monday, September 5th, 2022
Written by: Marine Industry News
In what feels like a never-ending run of disaster stories this year, a 49m superyacht – known as 007 – has capsized and is now semi-submerged in Greece, 15m off shore, awaiting recovery (2 Sept 2022).
According to the Hellenic Coast Guard, five passengers were rescued. No one was hurt. The incident took place at Kolona Bay, Kythnos.
Media reports suggest that the superyacht ran aground on Friday evening, causing an inflow of water that gradually tilted the vessel.
The coast guard answered mayday calls and found the vessel in a semi-submerged state.
According to Cyclades24 , there was failure in the GPS and the boat ran aground in the shallows, a breach was created and there was a large inflow of water causing 007 to lean on its side into the sea. This has yet to be confirmed.
An alternative report from eSysman suggests the captain deliberately tried to ground the vessel to stop it from sinking after it hit the rocks.
The Greek media outlet also says no marine pollution was caused and procedures for removal have already started. A towing company has arrived in Kythnos and is considering how to tow the ultra-luxury boat.
007 was launched as Amazon A by the Turkish shipyard Aegean Yacht in 2006. She was originally 32m long but has since been modified extensively to 49m.
“Shaken, stirred or on the rocks Mr. Bond?” asks one commentator.
Earlier in August, MIN reported on the sinking of a 39m yacht in Italy, and prior to that the 26m Kapky sank off the Turkish coast . A 49m schooner also sank in June after being hit by a supply vessel in a Spanish port.
An investigation into the superyacht sinking in Greece has begun.

Most intriguing superyacht news of 2022
Published on December 20th, 2022 by Assoc Editor -->
As 2022 draws to a close, BOAT looks back on all the news stories that captured our readers’ attention throughout the year. Here are the most popular yacht news stories of 2022…
Groundbreaking 40m zero-emission trimaran concept Domus unveiled In May, Rob Doyle Design and Van Geest teamed up to present a radical 40 metre trimaran concept called Domus. Named after the Latin word for ‘home’ the superyacht claims to rival a 60 metre yacht in terms of volume and aims to become the first truly zero-emission yacht over 750 gross tonnes. The design was one of the most popular yacht concepts of 2022.
127m Oceanco Y721 awaits delivery in Rotterdam Oceanco’s 127 metre Y721, the yacht reportedly being commissioned for Jeff Bezos, has captured attention throughout her build. Thought to be named Koru, the yacht was officially launched in August this year, and has since moved through the Dutch canals by tow to complete outfitting. BOAT International brought readers the first glimpse of the superyacht in her final form, awaiting sea trials in Rotterdam.
49m superyacht 007 runs aground in Greece At the end of summer, the 49 metre superyacht 007 ran aground in the bay of Kythnos, in the Cyclades island chain in Greece. The yacht reportedly struck rocks and began taking on water before listing steeply on her port side in shallow water. Efforts to contain potential pollution were quickly put in place, but the yacht’s hull remains in the port as of December 2022.
The incident follows in the footsteps of a number of yacht disasters in 2022, including the high-profile sinking of 39 metre My Saga, which capsized in southern Italy after several hours of foundering in deep water. Elsewhere in Italy, the 58.9 metre Idol collided with a bridge while leaving a Pisa-based shipyard in June, but sustained minimal damage. In May, the 45 metre Benetti Domani was disabled off the Washington coast after taking on water, but avoided sinking and was towed to a nearby shipyard for repairs. Inside the star yacht of Below Deck Mediterranean season seven Below Deck Mediterranean returned to screens this year, and the yacht playing host to Captain Sandy and her crew was revealed to be 49.8 metre Home. Delivered by Dutch yard Heesen in 2017, Home is one of the largest yachts of this size to feature a hybrid propulsion package, which makes her 48 per cent more efficient than other 50 metre yachts, and marks the first diesel-electric yacht to appear on the show. Later in the year, it was revealed that Benetti’s 60 metre St David would be the yacht appearing in Below Deck season 10.
Blue: 160m Lürssen superyacht delivered Lürssen added a new addition to its fleet with the delivery of 106 metre Blue. The yacht hit the water in February 2022, showing off a Terence Disdale exterior and a number of standout features, including a pair of helipads and a generous swim platform with twin staircases leading up to the deck above. In a statement, the yard has said that an enhanced environmental focus was a key driver behind the build of Blue.
49m Eleonora E refloated in Port Tarragona following collision In June, the 49.5 metre Eleonora E was hit by an offshore supply vessel in Port Tarraco in Spain. The classically-styled sailing yacht was docked when the vessel rammed in to her starboard side after reportedly encountering a mechanical failure. After lying in the port for several weeks, she was finally refloated in a three-week operation that involved more than 30 personnel.
45m half-built yacht Bella T sold ahead of auction The 45 metre half-built superyacht Bella T was sold ahead of its auction at the Judicial Western Cape High Court. The boat, formerly known as Summit One and Lac III, had been subject to a judicial arrest after a legal dispute between previous owners and was sat on the dock in Cape Town for twenty years. Now under the new ownership of a South African businessman, Bella T will undergo repairs and the final stages of her construction.
Aria SF: 45m superyacht sinks following fire in Ibiza One of the most devastating incidents of 2022 was the burning of the brand new 45 metre Aria SF. The yacht caught fire in a busy anchorage in the waters of Formentera, Ibiza, in August, and was ablaze for several hours. The still-smoldering hull was towed away from Ibiza, and the hull sunk close to Cap Martinet a few days later. Local news outlets report that the hull will be raised and towed to prevent further pollution to the surrounding water.
Former transatlantic record holder Gentry Eagle scrapped in California In May, the former transatlantic record holder 35.6 metre Gentry Eagle was demolished after sitting disused in California for several years. In 1989, the aluminium boat made the journey across the Atlantic in 62 hours and seven minutes. Gentry Eagle’s impressive journey time was 23 per cent faster than the existing record, which was held by British airline tycoon Sir Richard Branson.
Plans for £250M national flagship scrapped by British Government Earlier this year, the British government announced plans to build a £250 million flagship yacht. The invitation to tender was finalized and a number of designers put their concepts forward. In November, the government announced the plans had been scrapped as part of a reprioritization of the budget. Speaking about the plans being culled, Defense Secretary Ben Wallace said “it is right that we prioritize delivering capabilities which safeguard our national infrastructure”.

James bond movie locations around the world.
On a Tank Cruise in St. Petersburg
Russia – the tank chase locations in st. petersburg // goldeneye (1995).
The tank chase is one of the most thrilling scenes in James Bonds “GoldenEye”. Some scenes had been done on set, but most parts had been filmed on location in St. Petersburg – including some famous sights.
Why Bond was here The terrorist organization Janus steals a stealth helicopter and blows up a Soviet base up in Siberia. Bond (Pierce Brosnan) travels to St. Petersburg, where the presumed headquarter of Janus is. He encounters renegade General Ourumov (Gottfried John) – and tries to hunt him down with a stolen tank. As the tank chase goes on, Bond wrecks havoc in downtown St. Petersburg.
The tank drives through the Constitutional Court
How you gonna get there The tank chase had been filmed at two areas in the heart of the city: In the Sennaya neighbourhood and at the banks of Moyka Canal ( here you can read more about that part ). Sennaya is east of the Admiralty building. The tank chase had been filmed in front of the St. Isaac’s Cathedral, the Constitutional Court and the Main Post Office at Pochtamtskaya Street. The scene with the St. Isaac’s Cathedral is right at the beginning of the chase, Bond drives the tank along Voznesensky Avenue in front of the church. Then the scene cuts to the parts of the Moyka Canal. Later on the tank is seen driving through the big arch of the Constitutional Court. In the final scene, the tank is seen at Pochtamtskaya Street. There it drives underneath the arch of the Post Office and loses its winged statue (that it picked up at Preobrazhenskaya Square in yet another part of St. Petersburg).
The Constitutional Court nowadays
Good to know Marveling at the St. Isaac’s Cathedral, Constitutional Court and its neighboring buildings is great for an afternoon walk. Right across the Court is the Bronze Horseman – one of St Petersburgs most famous statues. It is probably the one, that inspired the Bond filming crew for the tank stunt with the winged statue. But if you are up for a real treat, go visit the world famous Mariinsky Theatre. It is one of worlds best known opera houses and hosts a ballet class that is just as outstanding as the famous Bolshoi in Moscow. We were at the Mariinsky for the famous Russian ballet “The Story of Kai and Gerda”, which you might know as “The Snow Queen”. It was a great evening!
We treated ourselves with ballet at the world famous Mariinsky Theatre today! #MariinskyTheatre #StPetersburg #MariinskyBallet Ein Beitrag geteilt von Julia Nikschick/Marc Röhlig (@huntingbond) am Dez 30, 2017 um 9:40 PST
When you plan on visiting the Mariinsky in St. Petersburg, try to book tickets in advance. The Russians are proud ballet goes – so shows might be sold out months ahead. Also dress accordingly: You don’t need to impress – but don’t just wear normal street style either. The Russians take their ballet serious and will come in style.

Cruising the Moskva River: A short guide to boat trips in Russia’s capital
There’s hardly a better way to absorb Moscow’s atmosphere than on a ship sailing up and down the Moskva River. While complicated ticketing, loud music and chilling winds might dampen the anticipated fun, this checklist will help you to enjoy the scenic views and not fall into common tourist traps.
How to find the right boat?
There are plenty of boats and selecting the right one might be challenging. The size of the boat should be your main criteria.
Plenty of small boats cruise the Moskva River, and the most vivid one is this yellow Lay’s-branded boat. Everyone who has ever visited Moscow probably has seen it.
This option might leave a passenger disembarking partially deaf as the merciless Russian pop music blasts onboard. A free spirit, however, will find partying on such a vessel to be an unforgettable and authentic experience that’s almost a metaphor for life in modern Russia: too loud, and sometimes too welcoming. Tickets start at $13 (800 rubles) per person.
Bigger boats offer smoother sailing and tend to attract foreign visitors because of their distinct Soviet aura. Indeed, many of the older vessels must have seen better days. They are still afloat, however, and getting aboard is a unique ‘cultural’ experience. Sometimes the crew might offer lunch or dinner to passengers, but this option must be purchased with the ticket. Here is one such option offering dinner for $24 (1,490 rubles).
If you want to travel in style, consider Flotilla Radisson. These large, modern vessels are quite posh, with a cozy restaurant and an attentive crew at your service. Even though the selection of wines and food is modest, these vessels are still much better than other boats.
Surprisingly, the luxurious boats are priced rather modestly, and a single ticket goes for $17-$32 (1,100-2,000 rubles); also expect a reasonable restaurant bill on top.
How to buy tickets?
Women holding photos of ships promise huge discounts to “the young and beautiful,” and give personal invitations for river tours. They sound and look nice, but there’s a small catch: their ticket prices are usually more than those purchased online.
“We bought tickets from street hawkers for 900 rubles each, only to later discover that the other passengers bought their tickets twice as cheap!” wrote (in Russian) a disappointed Rostislav on a travel company website.
Nevertheless, buying from street hawkers has one considerable advantage: they personally escort you to the vessel so that you don’t waste time looking for the boat on your own.
Prices start at $13 (800 rubles) for one ride, and for an additional $6.5 (400 rubles) you can purchase an unlimited number of tours on the same boat on any given day.
Flotilla Radisson has official ticket offices at Gorky Park and Hotel Ukraine, but they’re often sold out.
Buying online is an option that might save some cash. Websites such as this offer considerable discounts for tickets sold online. On a busy Friday night an online purchase might be the only chance to get a ticket on a Flotilla Radisson boat.
This website (in Russian) offers multiple options for short river cruises in and around the city center, including offbeat options such as ‘disco cruises’ and ‘children cruises.’ This other website sells tickets online, but doesn’t have an English version. The interface is intuitive, however.
Buying tickets online has its bad points, however. The most common is confusing which pier you should go to and missing your river tour.
“I once bought tickets online to save with the discount that the website offered,” said Igor Shvarkin from Moscow. “The pier was initially marked as ‘Park Kultury,’ but when I arrived it wasn’t easy to find my boat because there were too many there. My guests had to walk a considerable distance before I finally found the vessel that accepted my tickets purchased online,” said the man.
There are two main boarding piers in the city center: Hotel Ukraine and Park Kultury . Always take note of your particular berth when buying tickets online.
Where to sit onboard?
Even on a warm day, the headwind might be chilly for passengers on deck. Make sure you have warm clothes, or that the crew has blankets ready upon request.
The glass-encased hold makes the tour much more comfortable, but not at the expense of having an enjoyable experience.
Getting off the boat requires preparation as well. Ideally, you should be able to disembark on any pier along the way. In reality, passengers never know where the boat’s captain will make the next stop. Street hawkers often tell passengers in advance where they’ll be able to disembark. If you buy tickets online then you’ll have to research it yourself.
There’s a chance that the captain won’t make any stops at all and will take you back to where the tour began, which is the case with Flotilla Radisson. The safest option is to automatically expect that you’ll return to the pier where you started.
