The British Columbia Yacht Brokers Association consists of nearly 100 dedicated yacht brokers across the Province. BCYBA members have access to important benefits including special pricing on boatshows, a listing in the membership directory, vetted Common Documents and regulatory updates.

Certified Professional Yacht Broker Program

BCYBA joins all brokerage associations across North America in its proud support of the Certified Professional Yacht Broker Program.

All BCYBA members who qualify are encouraged to challenge the CPYB exam and join an elite group of approximately 500 Certified Professional Yacht Brokers. It is a challenging and rewarding designation that shows top level proficiency and tremendous commitment to the yacht brokerage profession. Achieving CPYB status represents the highest level of a yacht broker’s professional development. Working with a CPYB broker fosters confidence and showcases the highest level of professionalism to boat buyers and sellers, and to fellow brokers.

Certified Professional Yacht Brokers must maintain their certification by participating in 30 credit hours of industry training over three-year intervals. The BCYBA and YBAA (Yacht Broker Association of America) provide ample opportunities for members to earn CPYB recertification credits.

We are currently formatting and polishing the Anchors Aweigh Academy online and hands-on courses. Our Marine Surveying  course has proven to be excellent for both the beginner and the seasoned surveyor, and especially helpful to the Do-It-Yourselfer.

I'm surprised that so much if this site is free. But I still signed up so I could access the thousands of expanded pages, interesting articles, and dozens of valuable programs! The member's library of books, magazines and videos that I can view online is really terrific! I understand that you and your staff are all unpaid volunteers. Please keep up the good work. They say that it will take about 100,000 articles to cover the full scope that they have envisioned for the website. They have over 20,000 articles so far and that's doing pretty well, but it could take several years to get the rest. I also noticed that many of the Main Topic Pages and some of the article pages are still in the rough draft stage. I guess that they will fill in as they can get volunteers to work on them. But what I can't figure out is why anyone would spend the time writing informative in depth articles just to give away free to this website for publication? What's in it for them? "

Writing such articles helps establish them as knowledgeable professionals. After all, this website was originally created by a school for marine technicians and marine surveyors. The website is growing in content every day. They even had to move to a bigger, more powerful server because the website's traffic has been growing exponentially. "

This site is quickly becoming the ultimate reference resource about every aspect of boats and ships for everyone from the beginning recreational boater to the seasoned professional mariner. I use the topic pages on the right sidebar to browse around the website. It's like a Junior Woodchucks' Guidebook for Boaters. Their Members' Library of over 300 popular and obscure books and over 200 magazine back issues that can be viewed online is fabulous. The Academy's magazine is especially informative. On top of that, there is the "Ask-An-Expert program for members where you can get an expert's answer to any of your boat questions. And a whole years membership is only $25. What a deal! I really love being part of this "Everything About Boats" community and help provide thousands of helpful articles free to the public. I think that I'll sit down right now and write an article about my experiences boating with my uncle. "

The British Columbia Yacht Brokers Association consists of nearly 100 dedicated yacht brokers across the Province.  The benefits of membership with your association are many and continue to grow. 

Greater than any individual benefit, becoming a BCYBA member is about demonstrating your commitment to the yacht brokerage profession, and conveying confidence to boat buyers and sellers. BCYBA membership can help achieve that.

BCYBA is an association of your peers dedicated to the interest of yacht brokers and boaters. Our goals — whether its CPYB national certification, updated tax information, government affairs — are designed to provide value to you as a full time yacht broker, and assist you in operating a successful marine business.

Qualifications and Applications

BCYBA membership is available in two forms: Corporate and Individual.

BCYBA Membership Application Process

The BCYBA Board of Directors reviews all applications at the Board meeting immediately following the date the application is received.

Corporate Membership

Each yacht brokerage firm wishing to join the BCYBA must apply for a Corporate Membership, and all full time yacht brokers at the firm must apply to become Individual members.

Prerequisites:

• membership in Boating BC
• publicly accessible office open during business hours
• all applicants must use a trust or escrow account for brokerage transactions
• all applicants must hold a current applicable business license
• all applications must be endorsed by two current BCYBAS Corporate members.

Individual Membership

All persons engaged in the business of full time yacht brokers are highly encouraged to qualify and join the BCYBA.

The applicant will be sent study material for the BCYBA entry level exam, Broker 101. Applicants must successfully complete this exam within three months of applying for BCYBA membership.

The Broker 101 Exam is administered at the BCYBA offices in downtown Vancouver, and in Sidney, for Vancouver Island brokers as determined by demand. There is a non-refundable exam administration fee of $25.

Once you have passed Broker 101, your membership is pending for one year. After this time, you application is resubmitted to the BCYBA Board of Directors for final approval.
