Ratings and reviews

Location and contact.

The restaurant mainly served tapas style dishes with drinks. Choices of main courses from the menu were very limited. Food quality was good though. Staff were attentive. Nice services. Enjoyed a nice afternoon by the lake.

A good alternative to the usual busy hotspots in town is this unpretentious place with fab views of Lac Léman. The prices are a little steep for things like caipirinha but nothing too outrageous.

Have been twice so far: this summer and last summer. Really enjoyed it. Nice food, good service, the views of the Geneva lake very relaxing. Will be back.

The view on the lake is exceptional to say the least. As a bar and restaurant a centimeters away from the water, it has an appeasing and nice atmosphere, especially if seated outside (I recommend going there on a sunny day!!). The food is okay,... to be honest, for the price range I would expect a little bit more, although some of the plates were excellent. The quality of the fish was mediocre, and the little sauce they added on top just made it too acid to my disgrace, so I would not recommend it. They make good fondue, and tartare. In the end, I would recommend it more for cocktails and aperitif, to enjoy the magnificent sight of the lake as you sip a glass of wine. More

The setting is hard to beat, right on the lake front. Atmosphere is casual and very friendly. Charcuterie to share for starters followed by easily the best goats cheese salad in Geneva. Portions are very generous and beautifully presented. Even though we were there early... there was no rush to get us out for another sitting. Reservations are necessary and even though it is essentially a members club there do have visitors places. Prices correct given the location and setting. Will be going back very soon. More

Great views over the lake. We had a huge pot of mussels with a white wine sauce. It was delicious and definitely worth the slight trek to get there. Felt like we were living the good life

There are not many restaurants really at the border of the lake. This yacht club is one of the few. They prefer members and are open about the fact that they will get the best - lake side - seating. Further back is still nice,... but since they out too make tables on the small terrace, it can get cramped and too hot (no airflow). The food is good, but not special. It's mainly the location and handy if you have a boat; plenty of guest places in their harbour. More

Great view on the lake Peaceful place Very kind staff Easy to park right across the street Perfect to have a drink, to work as we did and to eat.

Restaurant really on the lake, with a beautiful view of Geneva. Unfortunately the access is reserved to the members of the yacht club, so you better have a friend who is a member. Has a bar outside with free access to non members. Good fondue... and several other good choices to enjoy as close as you can get to the lake. More

Dear Guest, we thank you for this comment. In fact, you should be a yacht club member to enjoy the restaurant. However, our team can give you a "carte invité" whitch make you be able to discover the place. Then, if you want to become... More

We had low hopes coming to the restaurant, mostly to enjoy the view. We were definitely surprised with the food quality and the location. The food is delicious with Fresh ingredients and good quality meet and cheese. The view is also amazing and it is... nice to eat with the view. The service is a bit slow and the waiters are not always nice but it will not affect your experience too much! It is a nice, small, not crowded yet very nice restaurant. I would recommend this place to anyone passing by Cologny. :) More

My first visit as a guest to this club/restaurant. Food first class, had the perch, service excellent and location to die for.

The view remains magical as always but the food quality has been dropping this year Vs previous ones. A short list to pick from should allow for a good food but it is disappointing..... The best at the end is to go for a beer... or a glass of Swiss white wine and a planche of charcuteries et fromages and enjoy the view..... More

I enjoy this restaurant, a rare location in Geneva, where I can enjoy great food and almost touch the fabulous lake ! Cozy atmosphere, nice service and diverse clients, some of them funs of sailing on the Geneva lake make it a relaxing and fun... place to be. A lovely terrasse in the summer is replaced by the nautical interior in the winter. Sunny day or windy day, with friends or alone so many occasions to have a great meal or just a drink. More

I like going to this restaurant as it is not a pretentious snobby place and quite affordable by Geneva standards. Service is great and the food has always been top notch for me and the setting is just perfect. Be sure to pop in Friday... lunch times in the summer season as the special is Filets de Perches from the lake. Very tender with a lovely tangy creamy sauce with a side of fries and salad at only CHF19. I should add that I also had the burger here last week and it was lovely. Included caramelised onions and a fresh bred bun. More

Gorgeous evening here spent with colleagues overlooking the lake; fabulous fresh fish, salad, crispy Chablis and delicious runny chocolate cake! Super friendly service topped off a great night. I will return!

Lake Geneva Yacht Club Fish Fry Review

Sometimes, dive bars aren’t where it’s at. They’re fun, the irony of it all, of the dated this and the out of style that.  But once in a while you just want to be surrounded by nice things. This is why we have nice lake houses. Old cottages are cute and fun, but luxury isn’t so bad either. Last Friday night I abandoned the dive bar scene and embraced the fanciful surroundings of the lake set. The Lake Geneva Yacht Club serves a Fish Fry, which means it must be judged.

Friday night wasn’t a great night. It was a bit windy and a bit cloudy, excepting a bright burst of sun that pushed through the low clouds right around sunset. The dying light made one last gasp and filled the lakefront bar just as we pulled up a chair. Our benevolent hosts had arrived before my wife and I, and as we chatted in that beautiful bar that lakefront light slowly faded beyond the western shore.

This is a restaurant at a yacht club (with a venerable history), so the E-Scow hanging from the ceiling and the trophies filling the glass cases shouldn’t come as any surprise. The surroundings here are vibrant and clean, beautiful, really, as they should be given the building is only a few years old. A large fireplace anchors the Eastern wall of that large, lakeside dining room.  The glow flickered throughout the room, with the overhead chandeliers warmed to low.  Excepting Pier 290, this is the nicest scene of any fish fry you’ll find in the Lake Geneva area.  But this is also a private club, so you’ll need to consider membership to enjoy this place. Or just be like me, and tag along with friends.

After some time lingering near the bar, where I nursed my Sprite, we sat at a table for four in the middle of that lovely dining room.  The crowd was well dressed, happy, with most sporting birth years that fell closer to those of my parents than my own. The waiter was quickly table side, and with a slightly uneasy cadence described our dining options. The Fish Fry was two piece cod, served broiled or fried, served with potato pancakes, applesauce, tartar sauce, hushpuppies, and coleslaw.  That sounds good, I’ll take it.

The Crab Cake appetizer looked worthwhile, so we took a stab. It was a singular cake ($14), nicely crisped but tender as a crab cake should be. It was served with a smear of something or other and a small assembly of finely diced vegetables, bacon, and some corn. It was a delicious appetizer, though I would have liked to have some larger chunks of crab in the cake.  In the distance, the old men in blazers discussed the wind and knots and cleats and sails.

The fish arrived within a reasonable amount of time, served on a white platter with quality, smaller dishes holding in the tartar sauce and other accompaniments. I liked this, as the plague of plastic takeout containers had been kept out of this fine establishment. The fish filets were not large, but they were large enough, and shaped like a proper rectangle, not a silly square. A lemon wedge sat atop my broiled piece. The potato pancakes were moderately sized, and after a disappointing run where my cakes were served in the singular, I had a nice pair of pancakes to consider.

My first bite was of the fried cod.  The batter was super crunchy, thin, not tough, the cod white and tender like the cod in my dreams. It was perfect. Well salted, slightly sweet, and perhaps the best fried cod I’ve had so far, only rivaled by the Lookout Bar at Lake Lawn Lodge. The broiled piece was slightly undercooked, which is preferable to slightly overcooked.  The hushpuppies (2) were sweet and creamy, the best hushpuppies I’ve had to date. If dusted with powdered sugar and served after dinner on a small white plate, I would have appreciated them even as a dessert.

The potato pancakes were well salted, with a bit of extra flavor that I couldn’t quite identify. They were thin, but properly cooked, nicely crisped, and delightful. Were they the best pancake I’ve had? No, but they were close.  The applesauce was too smooth for my liking, but it was cold and flavorful. The tartar sauce, according to my dinner mates, was lighter than typical, nuanced with flavor, and generally accepted as being delicious.

This was a beautiful dinner. The food was wonderful. The scene divine. The hushed murmurs of sailing strategy only slightly distracting to my fishy focus.  Given that this is a private club, it only stands to reason that it would be better than your average fish fry, but this dinner was exceptional. The next day, I inquired of the membership manager as to what a social membership would cost me. This is a fish fry I might not be able to live without.

nice atmosphere and friendly staff, but my compliments end there. two in our party of four had the fish fry both said the fish was rubbery and not seasoned at all. I always thought that Cod was supposed to be a flaky fish. I personally had the chicken piccata, which, in my opinion, did not resemble any chicken piccata that I have ever had at any other restaurant. It was hardly edible. The last person in our party had the short rib pot pie and he did say it was fine, but was not anything he would order again. Needless to say we will not be going back.

This review is limited to Sunday brunch. I have been going to this place most of my life, as my parents have been members since I was a child. Over the last several years, however, I have only attended "holiday brunches" on Easter and Mother's Day. Putting aside whether I am a believer in the "members only" country club concept, because I am not, the brunch is USUALLY pretty good. Pros: The price is reasonable for a "holiday" brunch. Richard, the man who runs the seating and reservations, is always very nice. The servers always are efficient and friendly, too. The food is USUALLY good. The view of the lake is very nice. Cons: I disagree with another reviewer, as I think it CAN indeed have a "haughty" atmosphere, although perhaps that is because I am not familiar with the level of "haughtiness" at other country clubs. The servers and Richard are great, any "haughtiness" I see generally comes from a few other diners, who probably should have joined a more exclusive club. They changed the desserts a couple years ago. They used to be homemade by a local person, but now are some fancy store bought desserts. I don't know, maybe the woman making them retired or left town, and they had no choice. I really miss her desserts, though. In reviewing my last brunch here, Easter 2016, I feel it would be remiss if I didn't mention the reason I am giving this place four instead of four and a half stars. They put out a new batch of eggs Benedict but, although I got the first one, my egg was REALLY overcooked. I am hardly the egg police, but the egg had a totally solid yolk. It was really not very good :/

Very rude staff and horrible service. Wish I had a better review to write but obviously this place is not well run.

A regular place to relax with a nice dinner and great view of Lake Geneva! My parents are members, and have been for many years. This is a private club, so unfortunately, you can't just pop in. ;-) Should you be looking for a great place to hang out, sail or simply enjoy dinner, this is a great place! My review will be based on dinner, as this is what we most often enjoy. Not sure the membership fees, but it's worth a look for an exclusive, yet comfortable and not haughty club along the south shore of the lake. Eight of us came in for a birthday celebration for my mom, sister and me - spanning 1-1/2 months worth of birthdays - our first chance to get together. We were greeted and shown a great table by the expansive windows overlooking the lake, across from Williams Bay and Yerkes Observatory. Service was excellent, with our water or other drinks never going empty, and just the right timing for our order and general needs. Our server had a good sense of humor, and tuned in to our questions for what would make a great dinner. The other support staff was also ready to answer questions or help us with the salad buffet. Even other guests are more than ready to offer a friendly comment, and many know one another, saying 'hello' and introducing their families to one another. I tried the Bison Burger, as I was not too hungry (my mom feeds us before going for dinner...) and knew it would keep better than my first choice of the fish special. It was 1/2 pound, perfectly prepared (I enjoy medium-rare), and had an amazing set of toppings on it! Fresh tomatoes, BBQ sauce, peppercorn ranch, onion strings and cheddar cheese. A little messy, but very good. Also, when I had it the next day for lunch, it was still nearly as good as when fresh - not often the case. Others had a wide variety of dishes, from seafood to the prime rib, with everyone grinning and enjoying their respective meals. My brother-in-law and dad enjoyed the beers, my sister liked the Chardonnay (though this may not have been exceptional) and I of course opted for the Sprecher Root Beer - excellent with the burger. The topper was that we mentioned our three birthdays in passing, and they brought us three pieces of complimentary birthday cake. I got the carrot cake (right choice) but don't remember what the others were other than that they had a mocha flavor. All three pieces were finished off, and this almost never happens with that much sweet for our family. Prices are a little higher than others for the same meals, but not out of order for the level of service and great view. Overall, a great place to join if you want a place where you feel like you belong to a community.

Young adult male at the front desk was super rude. Had some questions about the club and he stared at me like I was an idiot. Will not be making further inquiries.

This is a private dining restaurant for Abbey Springs residents, guests or paid (something like $250/year) members. Our group regularly has the walleye, other fish dishes, pasta. Twice baked potatoes are always popular. Add the $3 soup & salad bar to any dinner entree (weekends only). It's not a massive salad bar but between the soup, a few prepared salads (pasta salads, etc.) and basic, regular salad options you can't go wrong for $3. Among our Geneva area favorites, including: 1. Grandview Restaurant (Geneva Inn) 2. Abbey Springs Yacht Club 3. Hunt Club 4. Paisano's in Richmond would be near the top of the list if it were closer to Geneva

Photo of Arielle Z.

This place is wonderful! The food was excellent! We made reservations without any issue. Service was quick, and our server Sarah was attentive. The pork chop and walleye is a must order. Can't beat the lake front view either!

Buddy Melges Sailing Center Officially Opened

Published on July 10th, 2015 by Editor -->

Officers, directors, and members from Lake Geneva Yacht Club and the Geneva Lake Sailing School celebrated the official opening of their new facility – Buddy Melges Sailing Center – with a ribbon-cutting ceremony July 3.

The building is located on South Lake Shore Drive in Fontana (WI) on property that the yacht club has occupied since 1926 and where the school began in 1938. The new facility, which contains approximately 12,000 square feet of interior space, houses the sailing school on its first floor and the yacht club on the upper floor.

The entire property, which consists of approximately eight acres of land and includes a number of outbuildings, has been named the Buddy Melges Sailing Center in honor of the club’s most accomplished sailor, whose accolades include Olympic Gold and Bronze Medals, an America’s Cup win, and numerous other sailing championship awards. He was a student at the sailing school in the 1940s and later an instructor.

Briohn Construction Corporation of Brookfield, WI, was the general contractor and builder. The company began work on the property last fall.

“The new Buddy Melges Sailing Center, home of the Lake Geneva Yacht Club and the Geneva Lake Sailing School, is the culmination of many years of planning and represents a significant milestone in the history of these two great organizations,” said the yacht club’s Commodore F. Terrence Blanchard. “We believe the facility will be one of the finest sailing centers in the country and will provide current and future members and students a very special home where we can continue to promote and enjoy the sport of sailing on Geneva Lake.”

This year’s programs at the sailing school started on June 9 and will continue until mid-August. During 2014 more than 400 children and adults from the local community received their certificates. Instructors teach students in six indoor and outdoor classrooms as well as on the water. Fleet racing at the yacht club started later in June.

“The Buddy Melges Sailing Center provides a state-of-the-art facility for the Geneva Lake Sailing School to teach and grow the sport in a safe and enjoyable environment,” said the Geneva Lake Sailing School’s President Thomas Freytag, a top sailor and a graduate of the school. “We are very excited about the future of sailing on Geneva Lake.” Tom Freytag also serves as co-chair, with Past Commodore John D. Simms Jr., of the Buddy Melges Sailing Center Funding Committee and the Building Committee.

Lake Geneva Yacht Club traces its roots to 1874 and the first Sheridan Race, an event established to honor General Philip H. Sheridan during his visit to the area and a highlight on the club’s racing calendar ever since. The first clubhouse was built in 1906 at Cedar Point in Williams Bay. Members of the yacht club founded the Sailing School, which became an independent entity after being incorporated in 1953.

The Lake Geneva Yacht Club is proud to be hosting the Inland Lake Yachting Association Annual Championship Regatta, August 19 to 23. This event, which is expected to attract more than 200 boats, will also be held at Lake Geneva Yacht Club in 2016 and 2017.

Annie & Eddie’s Lake Geneva Yacht Club Wedding

Annie and Eddie’s Lake Geneva wedding was a perfect Wisconsin wedding. With a ceremony at St. Francis Church and reception at Lake Geneva Yacht Club .

Annie’s family so welcoming and I had a blast spending the morning with the ladies at their home getting ready. Meanwhile, Justin was with Eddie & the guys on the other side of town. We met at St. Francis Church in downtown Lake Geneva for the ceremony where Father Mark officiated.

After the ceremony, Annie and Eddie walked out to a surprise vintage blue car to take them to the dock where the Polaris Yacht was waiting to shuttle across Lake Geneva to the reception.

I have to say it was probably the coolest transportation between ceremony and reception that I’ve seen. The wedding party definitely enjoyed the trip. We made a few portraits on the boat, and a few more once we docked at the Yacht Club.

The reception opened with a toast by Annie’s dad that might have been the best I’ve heard from a father of the bride – and I hear a lot of them! He said he had two daughters worth of practice. After the best man toast and toasts by Annie’s sisters it was time for dinner and dancing.

It was a tight dance floor, but that made for some really crazy moments. The night finished with a wild garter and bouquet toss, and we did manage to sneak outside for one more twilight portrait.

Annie and Eddie – we had an amazing day with you and your families. Thanks for trusting us to document your day and share your wedding story.
