Supersize Sport-Fishers

  • By Chris Caswell
  • Updated: January 12, 2021

Viking Yachts 92

Once upon a time, sport-fishing boats were sized to meet lesser demands. Ernest Hemingway’s Pilar was 38 feet, which was large enough to get him into the Gulf Stream to chase marlin and the occasional U-boat during World War II. The first Rybovich, Miss Chevy II , was just 34 feet long, while the first Hatteras convertible sport-fisher, Knit Wits , pushed the length-overall envelope at 41 feet some 60 years ago.

Today, sport-fishers have soared past the 90-plus-foot mark with regularity, ranging up to the 144-foot Trinity Bad Company (originally Marlena ) that carries a dozen guests and a half-dozen crew on adventures to far-flung fishing grounds.

For years, both production and custom-built sport-fishers have grown. Owners demanded vessels that were bigger and more comfortable for running on their own bottoms from the United States to the fertile Pacific waters of Costa Rica and Guatemala to chase supersize sailfish and blue, black and striped marlin. To chug across the Atlantic for the summer billfish tournaments in Bermuda. To chase world records, wherever the bite was at the moment. It’s an attitude reminiscent of the film Endless Summer , where surfers gallop around the planet in search of the perfect wave.

The builders Viking, Hatteras and Bertram have long been the 900-pound gorillas of production sport-fishers, drawing the line at around 90 feet, with the Viking 92 emerging as a front-runner in this category. To date, Viking has built 19 of its 92-footers, with hull numbers 20 and 21 currently in production. While the Hatteras 92 and Bertram 80 are out of production, they still enjoy popularity on the brokerage market.

On the custom, cold-molded construction side of sport-fish yachts, North Carolina’s Jarrett Bay Boatworks launched the 90-foot Jaruco in 2017. The boat is a 44-knot battlewagon with a foredeck for touch-and-go helicopter landings. And for those who believe wooden hulls raise more fish, Bayliss Boatworks—also in North Carolina—has the 90-foot Reel Wheels II , with five staterooms and 38-knot speed, making quick work of runs to the canyons or back to the scales on tournament day.

In general, the hallmarks of a great sport-fisher, at least those in the 40-to-60-foot range, have included nimbleness when fighting a fish, as well as speed. Today’s larger sport-fishers can compete in those areas as well.

103-foot Burger Northland

Consider the 92-foot Viking Fa La Me , owned by Frank Rodriguez. It swept the Bermuda Triple Crown tournament series with the highest point total in the event’s history and became the first three-time winner of the series. Another 92-foot Viking, A Work of Art , grabbed second place in the 2017 Orange Beach Billfish Classic release division, and the 95-foot Jim Smith Relentless Pursuit took the tournament in 2019 with a 658.2-pound blue marlin and third-place wahoo.

The reigning queen of the mega-sport-fisher world, though, continues to be Bad Company , which was at first 132 feet length overall and subsequently stretched. Its top speed with twin 3,500 hp Paxman V-12s is 33 knots, which at first blush may not seem special. Keep in mind, however, that a 300-gross-ton 144-footer traveling at 33 knots can maintain that speed in rough seas while smaller, albeit faster sport-fishers have to pull the throttles way back. The amount of hull in the water matters.

The newest of the big-gun sport-fishers is the 130-foot Lanakai . Michael Peters designed it, and New Zealand’s Yachting Developments built it. It is the largest carbon-fiber sport-fisher and has twin 3,150 hp V-12 MTU 4000 M93 diesels that reportedly push it to 30 knots while carrying 10 guests and six crew in superyacht style.

So what changed to make larger sport-fishers tournament-viable, aside from owners being willing to spend considerably more money on a bigger boat?

First, of course, is maneuverability, which is essential—especially when faced with an angry blue marlin. Hydraulic bow thrusters are a key component of these vessels, allowing a captain to position the yacht precisely when backing down hard. Captains describe the big sport-fishers as being just as nimble as smaller boats.

On Fa La Me , one of the secret weapons is the fly-by-wire Viking independent programmable electrohydraulic rudders, eliminating the tie bars between rudders, and allowing independent rudder control, much like pod drives but with conventional shafts and props. The setup optimizes maneuverability at low speeds. Add to that modern technology such as joystick controls, which make the captain’s job easier. Two fingers on a joystick on the bridge rail keeps the yacht perfectly positioned for the crew in the cockpit.

Available horsepower has also driven up the sport-fisher’s length overall, with up to 7,000 hp now tucked into engine rooms for hammer-down power. Add in other technology such as gyrostabilizers that make a yacht more secure for stand-up tackle, and the result is large sport fishing yachts that are as agile as smaller sport-fishers in the hands of an experienced helmsman.

129 foot yacht Lanakai

Sheer size has other benefits. Consider the cockpit on Bad Company , which spans the vessel’s 27-foot beam. A half-dozen crew can be prepping bait and rigging lines and leaders, and never be crowded. That same width also allows outriggers that spread 120 feet to get lines into clean trolling lanes.

Mega-sport-fishers also have more balconies and mezzanines than Italy’s La Scala opera house, so it’s easier to keep a eye on the spread. Three decks on most offer good viewing of the fishing action. And the height matters. A taller flybridge allows for better visibility than tuna towers on smaller craft.

Larger yachts also mean more rod-and-tackle stowage and immense fridges and freezers with multiple ice chippers to keep the catch fresh and cool. Enclosed bridges provide comfort on extended passages as well as weather protection on snotty days.

The owner of Lanakai , according to Peters, puts those and other features to good use. “This owner is an absolute sportsman and adventurer,” Peters says. “He wants to stay out for weeks. He wants to fish Fiji and the [Great] Barrier Reef. He wants to roam far and wide in search of big fish. He had an 85-footer, and it simply wasn’t big enough for his goals. Besides, it’s not just about fishing; a water-level cockpit gives great access to the water for diving too.”

This type of boat is indeed a beautiful thing. As Luiz de Basto, designer of the 105-foot Broward Odyssey and the 95-foot Seaforce IX sport-fisher series, puts it: “Something that I, as a yacht designer, realized many years ago is that the pure, classic fishing boat—its unique purpose and the resulting lines—are probably the most original creation of the vast and diverse American pleasure-boat universe. From 30-footers to the largest ones, they all share a sporting purpose and beautiful elegance that demonstrates America’s ingenuity at its best.”

The style also represents fishing at its finest. Sam Gershowitz—owner of the Star Island Yacht Club and Marina in Montauk, New York—is a serial owner of sport-fishers, all named Marlena . His current big gun is a 105-foot Jim Smith. When asked how he planned to fish the boat, his answer perfectly summed up mega-sport-fishers: “very comfortably.”

About Sport Fishing Yachts for Sale

Feel free to use our sportfish search to find the ideal candidate by region, brand, price, age and features! Updated daily!

If you would like to discuss your goals, we would like to know more and find that special sport fishing yacht for sale that meets your requirements – at no obligation!

The term, ‘Sport Fishing’ yacht explains it all! Sport fishing yachts are designed to catch fish!

Sport fishing yachts (also known as sport fishers or sport fisherman) are extremely popular with game fishers and divers worldwide..

Here on the Southeast US coast, sport fisher yachts typically stay in Florida to fish around South Florida and the Florida Keys. Quite often, these sportfishers make their way to the active fishing grounds in the Bahamas. The Bahamas are easily cruised to any time of the year and feature a wide variety of different fishing tournaments . Bimini is the most western Bahamian island and located only 50 miles from South Florida. The Bahamas offers world class fishing opportunities for pelagic species such as marlin, wahoo, sailfish, dolphin (mahi mahi), tuna and more. Steep drop offs provide many fishermen with opportunities to catch bottom dwelling fish such as grouper, snapper, tilefish, swordfish and other deep water species.  Sport fishing yachts also double as diving platforms for spearfishing. Blue water spearfishing (that is in deep water) is becoming a very popular sport activity for divers to spear pelagic species.

Sportfishing Yachts for Sale include these Features

Most sport fishing yachts on the US east coast are designed to be fast. They are often equipped with a fly bridge plan including a helm offering good 360 degree visibility. Also, extra seating and an enclosure or an enclosed bridge (EB). Since a large cockpit is essential to catching fish, the operator must have great visibility and access to the cockpit.

Accommodations often include luxury yacht staterooms for owners and guests located forward of the salon and galley area. Often a crew area is provided near the engine room.

Most sport fishing yachts (or sport fishing boats) are built out of a fiberglass ‘sandwich’ in order to keep them light, strong and thus fast. The truly “fish-possessed” and tournament oriented construct custom boats. These custom sportfishers are commonly made of epoxy infused wood using a technique called “cold-molding.”

Speed is essential for covering vast amounts of ocean while on the hunt, thus large diesel engines or multiple outboard engines and light hulls are the norm. This is true especially in the Southeast US area. Other areas such as the West US coast rely on range to get to popular fishing grounds and thus smaller engines with more fuel capacity.

Sport fishing yachts offer two configurations:

  • Convertible sport fishing yachts (or sedan) – which offers a fly bridge above a salon and galley area
  • Express sport fishing boats which are one level, yet still offer a smaller salon and cabin area.

Tower configurations offer the ability to spot fish action according to the area and types of fishing. Towers are made from aluminum tubing and offer a range of styles from half towers, marlin towers and tuna towers (the tallest). All sport fishing yachts are equipped with outriggers for trolling multiple baits. Some sportfishers opt to install deep-dropping equipment such as down riggers and electric reel stations. Plenty of rod holders are positioned for easy access and multiple types of rods.

Yacht fishers are also popular as they combine the best of the sport fishing boat cockpit and aft deck; yet the comfort and amenities found in motor yachts. Yacht fishers are extremely popular on the US west coast where range is a big consideration.

Speaking of range; a growing trend are ‘mother ships’ which can explore remote areas of the world and carry fast sport fishers on the deck. These expedition style yachts can launch and retrieve these sportfishing boats when they reach their destinations.

Please also check out our page for center console boats which is a very popular way to enjoy sportfishing and diving, from a smaller boat.  These are designed for day use and often are towed by larger yachts.

History of Fisher

Established in 1945, Fisher, the British boat manufacturer is renowned for building boats that satisfy the desire for adventure and the allure of the sea. Based in Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria, in Northern England, Fisher emerged just after World War II at a time when the country was seeking new avenues of productive enterprise. The company began with the exclusive manufacture of small, modest boats, often wooden, suitable for local sailing and fishing, steadily earning a reputation for durability and reliability. Fisher's boats were known to be sea-friendly, practical and aesthetically complementary to old English sailing traditions.

In the 1970s, under the leadership of David Freeman, Fisher underwent a significant expansion. The company launched its now distinctive motor-sailor boats, revolutionising the industry and setting a new standard for seaworthiness and comfort. Freeman's designs, characterised by a deep-sea, rounded hull and a sturdy ketch rig, offered an unrivalled sailing experience. The company’s ability to combine motorboat and sailboat features in a single design separated Fisher from the competition, marking a pivotal moment for the brand.

Through the years, Fisher has shifted its production base a few times. Originally manufacturing solely in England, the company began contracting out some of its operations to Asia due to economic pressures in the 2000s. Today, Fisher continues its iconic craftmanship primarily in the town of Wuxi, China. However, the DNA of Fisher remains deeply embedded in its British roots, and despite the geographical displacement, Fisher continues to uphold its English maritime traditions, embodying a spirit of exploration, adventure, and enduring craftsmanship.

This 171-foot yacht is the world's biggest sportfishing vessel to be built by Royal Huisman

To hook the world’s biggest fighting fish, in the words of Chief Brody in the classic 1975 movie Jaws , “You’re going to need a bigger boat.”

Privately owned fishing boats won’t come any bigger than this astonishing 171-foot super-luxury sportfisherman, set to claim the title of “World’s Largest Sportfish Superyacht.”

Designed by Dutch naval architects Vripack , and soon to start construction at the Royal Huisman yard in the Netherlands, Project 406 as it’s currently codenamed, will be a fast “battlewagon,” designed to chase marlin, swordfish and sailfish to the ends of the earth. “Project 406 is a sportfishing machine on steroids,” Vripack co-creative director Bart M. Bouwhuis told Robb Report . “It has the proportions of a typical American sportfishing yacht, with a long, flaring bow and open foredeck, and raked-back superstructure. It’s just bigger in every way.”

Like every sportfishing boat, the focus is the cockpit, with a fighting chair in the center and multiple rocket launchers. The decks above are for ringside views of the action.  Courtesy Vripack

Bouwhuis is quick to point out “this is a sportfisher first, and superyacht second. While she will have the luxury of a true superyacht, she’ll set a new benchmark in the world of big-game fishing boats.”

Renderings from Vripack show a towering, six-deck fishing machine with the sleek proportions of smaller battlewagons from American builders like Viking, Hatteras and Jarrett Bay.

To shave weight, the hull and superstructure will be made of Alustar aluminum, a super-strong, high-tensile alloy. Bouwhuis won’t reveal the yacht’s power, though the word “huge” comes out in the conversation. “You can’t fool nature if you want a 171-foot boat to go this fast,” he says. “It will have significant horsepower.”

This 171-foot yacht is the world's biggest sportfishing vessel to be built by Royal Huisman

Designer Vripack kept the proportions similar to traditional American sportfishing designs, though those smaller battlewagons don’t have six decks.  Courtesy Vripack

The yacht has been commissioned by an experienced owner who is passionate about big-game fishing. “There are yachts out there that label themselves ‘sportfishermen,’ but they tend to be big motoryachts with a small fishing cockpit on back. Project 406 stays true to the traditional proportions.”

That means an oversized stern cockpit that’s low to the water, with a classic varnished-wood fighting chair takes center stage. Each of the decks above it will face the stern to give guests a front-row view of the sportfishing action below. For thrill-seekers, the very top deck, high above the flybridge hardtop, will provide stunning 360-degree views of the water. Perfect for spotting leaping marlin.

When the fish aren’t biting, Project 406 will offer guests plenty of places to kick back and relax. On the bow is an expansive, sunken sun-lounging area with oversize pads and sofas. The yacht’s fourth-level sky lounge will serve as an extraordinary “theater” for watching big-game fish leap out of the water. At night, it will have the relaxed ambience and stunning views of a boutique hotel penthouse.

This 171-foot yacht is the world's biggest sportfishing vessel to be built by Royal Huisman

When not in sportfishing mode, the outer decks can be used for socializing, especially the open area in the bow.  Courtesy Vripack

“It has been a steep learning curve for the whole Vripack team, discovering what makes a great sportfishing boat and understanding what kind of features are needed—from the rods, to the baitwells, the icemakers and fish boxes,” says Bouwhuis. “But it has definitely been an exciting challenge.”

It’s hard to understand the unbridled passion for fishing, especially when discussing the world’s largest sportfishing boat.  But actor Lee Marvin summed up the feeling nicely: “I only make movies to finance my fishing.”

Some members come for part of the rally or indeed join during the rally as their time permits. At the heart of these rallies and cruises in company are the social aspects, including dinners in the local pubs and restaurants which are much enjoyed by all. Calls at ports are often arranged around these great social and very memorable moments.

The FOA also has onshore social events and dinners where all members can meet and exchange their sailing news, recent sailing conquests, and of course those candid photographs taken while afloat tend to come out as well - just when you thought you had got away with it!

Captain Eric Thor Olsen Sr Captain / Owner

Eric writes, "I was born in Seward in the Territory of Alaska. I grew up on the Kenai Peninsula living on the homestead my dad settled in the late 1940s. I fished with my dad through my teens and then independently along the Alaska coast from Prince William Sound, Cook Inlet, Kodiak Island and out west to Bristol Bay. I sat for my US Coast Guard Masters Captains license in 1984 and captained my first passenger boat running a nature tour for Kenai Fjords Tours. I have been the Captain of many different vessels, taking visitors out along the rugged Alaska coast for 37 years. Now, I have my own yacht that will fulfill a dream I have had for years. A dream that has grown out of a love of sharing my Alaska with visitors of all ages and nationalities: to spend my summers cruising the inland waters of Alaska; anchoring in a different bay or cove every night; watching the whales, coastal brown bears, and bald eagles, trying to capture their beauty in my photography. Fishing, setting crab and shrimp pots, and eating seafood just pulled from the ocean - it doesn’t get any better than that! Come and join us - you will not be disappointed!"

Katie Larkin Steward "Born and bred in coastal New England, my winters were spent listening to fog horns and anticipating balmier temperatures in which to play on the sandbar or hop in a sailboat. My dad taught me how to snag a mooring, tie a cleat and keep a heading, and mom taught me how to balance (on a boat, and everywhere else!). Both instilled in me a deep and profound respect for the ocean… to the extent that I still just don’t care for fresh water when salt is available. I left the beaches of Cape Cod and Connecticut for college half way down the shoreline and inland to the mountains of Virginia, and from there I realized that there was a lot more for me to see and experience… idealy closer to water. Keeping that in mind, my state-side travels quickly turned international by the time I reached twenty. This is my first time in Alaska, and I now have the wonderful opportunity to blend all of my favorite past times and work endeavors together. I’m happily bouncing around on my sea legs, doing everything I can to make novice and veteran boating enthusiasts just as blissfully content as I am. The sky’s the limit, and the horizon just keeps on going!"

Adam Larkin Chef "I spent my childhood in suburban New England attending the smallest public school system in the state of Connecticut. I feel like most people from small towns do one of two things. Settle down and never leave their comfort zone, or leave it all behind and start again somewhere drastically different. I always felt like there was more to life than what I was taught so as soon as I could……I made a run for it. I started working in the hospitality industry merely as a source of income. After five years I decided to make a career out of it. After twelve years I started using that career to take me anywhere that I wanted to go. I had become pretty disenchanted working in traditional restaurant settings so I decided to move down to Miami, Florida to look for something different. I scored my first boat job there working in the galley for an event charter company. From the moment I took to the seas, my world was truly wide open. Twelve states, two territories, and five countries later I now find myself here in Southeast Alaska. Loving every minute of it."

Eric, Katie and Adam are joined by 1 additional crew member.

Cruising the Moskva River: A short guide to boat trips in Russia’s capital

yacht fisher

There’s hardly a better way to absorb Moscow’s atmosphere than on a ship sailing up and down the Moskva River. While complicated ticketing, loud music and chilling winds might dampen the anticipated fun, this checklist will help you to enjoy the scenic views and not fall into common tourist traps.

How to find the right boat?

There are plenty of boats and selecting the right one might be challenging. The size of the boat should be your main criteria.

Plenty of small boats cruise the Moskva River, and the most vivid one is this yellow Lay’s-branded boat. Everyone who has ever visited Moscow probably has seen it.

yacht fisher

This option might leave a passenger disembarking partially deaf as the merciless Russian pop music blasts onboard. A free spirit, however, will find partying on such a vessel to be an unforgettable and authentic experience that’s almost a metaphor for life in modern Russia: too loud, and sometimes too welcoming. Tickets start at $13 (800 rubles) per person.

Bigger boats offer smoother sailing and tend to attract foreign visitors because of their distinct Soviet aura. Indeed, many of the older vessels must have seen better days. They are still afloat, however, and getting aboard is a unique ‘cultural’ experience. Sometimes the crew might offer lunch or dinner to passengers, but this option must be purchased with the ticket. Here is one such  option  offering dinner for $24 (1,490 rubles).

yacht fisher

If you want to travel in style, consider Flotilla Radisson. These large, modern vessels are quite posh, with a cozy restaurant and an attentive crew at your service. Even though the selection of wines and food is modest, these vessels are still much better than other boats.

yacht fisher

Surprisingly, the luxurious boats are priced rather modestly, and a single ticket goes for $17-$32 (1,100-2,000 rubles); also expect a reasonable restaurant bill on top.

How to buy tickets?

Women holding photos of ships promise huge discounts to “the young and beautiful,” and give personal invitations for river tours. They sound and look nice, but there’s a small catch: their ticket prices are usually more than those purchased online.

“We bought tickets from street hawkers for 900 rubles each, only to later discover that the other passengers bought their tickets twice as cheap!”  wrote  (in Russian) a disappointed Rostislav on a travel company website.

Nevertheless, buying from street hawkers has one considerable advantage: they personally escort you to the vessel so that you don’t waste time looking for the boat on your own.

yacht fisher

Prices start at $13 (800 rubles) for one ride, and for an additional $6.5 (400 rubles) you can purchase an unlimited number of tours on the same boat on any given day.

Flotilla Radisson has official ticket offices at Gorky Park and Hotel Ukraine, but they’re often sold out.

Buying online is an option that might save some cash. Websites such as  this   offer considerable discounts for tickets sold online. On a busy Friday night an online purchase might be the only chance to get a ticket on a Flotilla Radisson boat.

This  website  (in Russian) offers multiple options for short river cruises in and around the city center, including offbeat options such as ‘disco cruises’ and ‘children cruises.’ This other  website  sells tickets online, but doesn’t have an English version. The interface is intuitive, however.

Buying tickets online has its bad points, however. The most common is confusing which pier you should go to and missing your river tour.

yacht fisher

“I once bought tickets online to save with the discount that the website offered,” said Igor Shvarkin from Moscow. “The pier was initially marked as ‘Park Kultury,’ but when I arrived it wasn’t easy to find my boat because there were too many there. My guests had to walk a considerable distance before I finally found the vessel that accepted my tickets purchased online,” said the man.

There are two main boarding piers in the city center:  Hotel Ukraine  and  Park Kultury . Always take note of your particular berth when buying tickets online.

Where to sit onboard?

Even on a warm day, the headwind might be chilly for passengers on deck. Make sure you have warm clothes, or that the crew has blankets ready upon request.

The glass-encased hold makes the tour much more comfortable, but not at the expense of having an enjoyable experience.

yacht fisher

Getting off the boat requires preparation as well. Ideally, you should be able to disembark on any pier along the way. In reality, passengers never know where the boat’s captain will make the next stop. Street hawkers often tell passengers in advance where they’ll be able to disembark. If you buy tickets online then you’ll have to research it yourself.

There’s a chance that the captain won’t make any stops at all and will take you back to where the tour began, which is the case with Flotilla Radisson. The safest option is to automatically expect that you’ll return to the pier where you started.

News obituaries | capt. charlie griffin, ‘wicked tuna’ star, dies in boating accident on the outer banks.

Staff headshot of Kari Pugh.

Capt. Charlie “Griff” Griffin of “Wicked Tuna” fame died on the Outer Banks after his boat went missing Sunday night near Oregon Inlet. A person with him remained missing Monday evening.

Around 11:35 p.m. Sunday, the Coast Guard received a report of two overdue boaters transiting in a recreational vessel from Virginia Beach to Wanchese, where the boat was going for repairs, a Coast Guard spokesperson said by phone.

The last communication with those on the boat had been about 6:15 p.m. Sunday.

The Coast Guard and local first responders were searching the oceanfront between Nags Head and Rodanthe by water and ATV on the beach when the boat was found south of Oregon Inlet about 70 yards off shore in the break, the spokesperson said.

In that same area, searchers found an “unresponsive person” and deceased dog. A medical examiner declared the person dead, she said.

The other person aboard had not been found as of Monday evening, but the search was planned to continue overnight.

Word went out through the commercial fishing community earlier in the day that Griffin’s boat had gone missing in the rough waters of Oregon Inlet, which joins the Pamlico Sound to the Atlantic Ocean south of Nags Head. Unruly currents and wild weather conditions have made the inlet one of the most notoriously unpredictable waterways on the East Coast.

Local newsman Sam Walker wrote on his website that several private vessels had joined a search for Griffin around Oregon Inlet and adjacent Pea Island.

Late Monday afternoon, a message was posted on Griffin’s Facebook page “Reels of Fortune.”

“It is with the deepest sadness we report that Charlie Griffin and his beloved dog, Leila, have passed away in a boating accident today, March 4th,” the post reads. “Please keep family and friends in your thoughts and prayers. We will forever remember Griff!”

Griffin and the crew of his boat starred in episodes 2-5 of “Wicked Tuna Outer Banks,” winning the fourth season. The National Geographic series follows a group of “salty fisherman” who make their living reeling in lucrative bluefin tuna, according to the show’s website. On the show, crews battle other tuna boats for the most profit, with a winner crowned at the end.

By late Monday afternoon, Outer Banks social media pages were flooded with tributes and memories of Griffin.

“He was an Outer Banks Original,” Jody O’Donnell, a local radio host, wrote on Facebook.  “We had him on the show a couple times when Griff was on ‘Wicked Tuna Outer Banks.’ Most of what I knew of him was from his old friend and fishing compadre Captain Marty Brill. I’m thinking of Marty and all of Griff’s family and friends during this trying time.”

Alaskan fishermen to handover yet another possible spy balloon to feds.

Alaskan fishermen found what US officials will investigate as a potential spy balloon.

The commercial fishing vessel will bring the questionable object to shore sometime this weekend, three  sources told CNN Friday .

The FBI will meet the ship when it arrives in port and take the unknown object to the agency’s lab in Quantico, Va., the outlet reported.

While the sources stressed to CNN that they do not know what the object is, the FBI said it resembles surveillance balloons used by foreign nations enough to look into further.

“The FBI is aware of debris found off the coast of Alaska by a commercial fishing vessel,” the agency told The Post Friday night.

“We will work with our partners to assist with the logistics of the debris recovery.”

The North American Aerospace Defense Command did not say if it knew of anything that had gone down in the region in recent days or weeks when reached by The Post.

Friday’s latest balloon scare comes a week after a mysterious high-altitude balloon was tracked by US agencies and later  determined to be a hobbyist’s device .

The small balloon, flying at an altitude between 43,000 and 45,000 feet, was intercepted by NORAD fighter jets shortly as it hovered over Utah. Officials determined it “posed no hazard to flight safety” and it later drifted out of American airspace.

Just over a year ago, the US Air Force shot a Chinese spy balloon out of the sky over South Carolina after it floated across the country over several days, making national headlines and sparking national security fears.

The 200-foot-tall craft made multiple passes over key US military installations before it was shot down.

President Biden described the Chinese balloon’s payload as  “two boxcars full of spy equipment”  and faced intense criticism from Republicans, who argued that it should’ve been brought down sooner.

China maintained that the balloon was a civilian meteorological craft that strayed off course.

However, a year after it was shot out of the sky by an F-22 jet on Biden’s orders, little remains known about the Chinese balloon or what intel it obtained as the FBI’s report on the incident remains veiled in secrecy. The lack of information has prompted  demands from members of Congress that the Biden administration reveal what’s known  about the balloon.
