This is a process of elimination which will deliver the most appropriate yacht for your holiday.

How do I ensure the most suitable final selection? 

It is crucial that we, at Goolets, gain a thorough understanding of your preferences and expectations from the beginning, so that we can undertake a comprehensive, tailored search. Please consider the following:

• Do you prefer modern or classic yachts? 
• Do you prioritize size of the yacht or the age of the yacht? 
• What do you expect from your crew? Highly attentive at all times, or more in the background?
• Would you prefer a younger crew, full of energy and sociable; or less so?
• Do you need a faster yacht to explore more places and cover more ground, or is this not so important?
• Do you prefer larger cabins and a spacious salon/living area, or you are more of an outdoor person?
• Do you prefer a more luxurious yacht, or to allocate more of your budget to food/beverages and activities (water sports/land excursions/tours/bike rental, etc)?

Once we have noted your preferences, we will compile a shortlist of possibilities comprising 5 to 10 yachts of varying specifications (size, interior style, type of crew, etc); following which, we will narrow this down to 2 or 3 options, all of which would make excellent choices. 

This process can be repeated with multiple permutations in order to arrive at the most suitable selection.

This process - refined over the past 15 years - delivers successful charters and satisfied customers.

What is the cost of a yacht charter? 

We specialize in crewed vessels, where prices can range anywhere from € 5,000 per week up to more than € 1 million per week. Most of our charters fall into three price levels: 

• From € 10,000 to € 30,000 per week
: This price range has the largest variety of yachts, and includes smaller vessels - motor and sail, gulets, classic yachts, and catamarans.  When booking, it is important to ensure proper maintenance inspections have been carried out, and the crews are professionally trained, speak fluent English, and can provide excellent service.  Around 30% of our customers book vessels in this range. 
• From € 30,000 to € 100,000 per week:
 This price level is becoming more popular every season. It includes a wide range of yachts, traditional and modern. These are high specification vessels offering every imaginable comfort. Around 50% of our clients book yachts in this price range. 
• From € 100,000 per week
: This price level includes ultra-luxury vessels such as megayachts. These are the most highly sought-after charter yachts in the world, with a wide range of high-end water “toys” onboard - including jet skis, a heli-pad, and even a submarine. These charters are very bespoke and every detail is managed to cater for exacting requirements.  A small percentage of our clients book these superyachts. 

Is the cost of a personal charter manager included?

Yes, Goolets’ services are included in the base charter rate. 

Booking your holiday with us includes:

• A dedicated, personal yacht expert : one of our team will be assigned to you and will oversee every detail of your charter. 
• A personal concierge /customer support person : when you book a yacht with us, you will also be assigned a destination expert who can advise on routes, activities, and local cuisine.  She/he will help design your charter to your specifications to maximise your cruise.
• A destination manager : a person from within our team responsible for the time you spend ashore at each local destination / stop-off, ensuring a seamless and positive experience. 
• All these costs are incorporated into the base charter fee.  

How do you help me plan the itinerary?

For each destination, we provide all the most popular itineraries / routes that are being followed.

First step is to go through the itinerary and determine your starting point. This usually covers check-in and check-out locations, and some of the highlights (islands, towns, nature parks, bays, locations), that you would prefer to visit.

Second, the tailor-made route is refined to maximise each port of call. You can elect to stay longer in some places and omit others.

Third, we customize your itinerary according to your group structure and preferences. If you have small children or teenagers, or if you are an active group of older people travelling without children, or if you are in your 30s travelling with friends who like to party, you can all follow the same route. You can all arrive at the same island, for example, yet experience it in a completely different way:

• Families with young children: we will find the best and safest sandy beaches where you can swim and relax 
• Teenagers might enjoy activities such as water sports
• Older groups may with to visit historic places, enjoy a leisurely lunch at a local restaurant, or visit a wine cellar
• Those who like to party might wish to sleep during the day and stay up til the wee hours.

How do you help me plan the activities for the route/itinerary I select? 

When we have the basis for the itinerary and your group structure (age, wishes, expectations) we construct your wishlist and discuss it with the Captain. 

We have successfully organised thousands of charter cruises for every conceivable group size so we have a thorough understanding of what is required to make your trip a success.

What Is The Reservation Process?

Your first point of contact at Goolets will be with a Concierge Assistant /Yacht Planner. This involves a full review and confirmation of all of your wishes. This information is collated, then we confirm availability with the yacht owner. We then prepare the necessary paperwork including the charter contract which is signed three-ways - by you (the charterer), by us (the broker), and by the yacht owner. Upon payment of a 50% deposit, the yacht booking is secured.  

Your wishlist is compiled and the planning for your trip commences - usually one or two months prior to departure. You will be sent a questionnaire where you will confirm the passenger names, your menu preferences, any food allergies, whether you need airport transfers booked, and so on. We communicate with the yacht’s crew and create a day by day itinerary.

Final payments are made 4 weeks prior to departure, and all relevant travel documents and destination advice are issued.  The crew is briefed on any last minute requests. 

At check-in state, our destination experts will arrange everything on the ground to ensure an easy embarkation.

We stay in contact throughout your holiday to ensure everything is going as planned.

I am incredibly grateful for countless travel memories that I can look back on with fondness but one of my favourite is gulet cruising in Turkey. It was a four night, five-day sailing holiday along the Mediterranean coast from Fethiye to Olympus. Choosing to partly detox from an Internet addiction, and relax at the same time, the experience was ten times better than any spa retreat offers.

However, speaking to friends after the event, it seemed that the biggest misconception people have about gulet sailing holidays in Turkey, is that you’ll spend all day, every day on the boat being bored, but it is about much more than that. Firstly, if you are a novice to gulet cruising, it helps to understand the unique background, concept and what makes them different from others sailing vessels.

What is a Gulet in Turkey?

When you book gulet sailing holidays in Turkey, you are venturing into an age-old nautical tradition. Gulets are traditional, handcrafted wooden boats with two or three masts. Although other countries such as Italy, Montenegro, and Croatia, use gulets, Turkey has an esteemed and long-established reputation for making gulet boats, especially in Bodrum and Bozburun, two coastal hubs on the west and southwest coast.

Are Gulets Seaworthy?

Most gulet boats range in size from 20 to 30 meters, and each has between 5 to 8 cabins. Within these cabins are double or single beds, an en-suite bathroom and sometimes wardrobes. Most gulets have air conditioning, although the humidity is less at sea than at land, so they are generally not needed, especially when sailing.

Eat your meals on deck, and there is a full crew to help you including the captain, deckhands, and cook. Gulet boats can cruise with wind force or turn on the engine for a faster experience. As with any travel concept, a gulet can be budget and basic or luxurious, in which case, the cabins are larger with exquisite furniture and décor. The sunbathing area is at the front of the boat and inside is a separate seating/bar area.

Marmaris: Another destination particularly favoured by the Brits, the harbour and marina area is a hive of everything nautical. Within the town itself, there is not much to do the area, however, is exceptionally scenic, explaining why it is a major sailing hub.

1: Explore the small coastal towns

The Turkish Riviera has many small, coastal towns, each with their characteristics. Gulets dock in either overnight or for the day, giving you time to wander and explore. Kas on the Mediterranean coast is a perfect example because despite embracing modern living, it has kept its authentic atmosphere, making it one of the quaintest places in Turkey.

2: Get to places only accessible by boat

Many uninhabited islands surround Turkey, and some of them such as Gemiler just outside Fethiye are worth exploring. Ruined Christian churches and a fantastic view make it a preferred place at night for boats to drop anchor. Kekova sunken ruins is another area ideally explored by boat for the best view.

During my blue cruise, I never slept in my cabin. Instead preferring the deck at the front of the boat, I thoroughly enjoyed going to sleep under the stars. There is something peaceful about just listening to the sounds of nature as you drop off and as much as my cabin was comfortable and quiet, I choose to sleep on deck every time.

4: See Caretta Caretta turtles

It is a guaranteed certainty you will see the endangered Caretta turtles if you cruise the Mediterranean coast but in particular, the Simena area. One morning, a small group came swimming around the boat for food and seeing their size, I realised their stamina was strong despite their docile appearance.

5: Gorgeous sunsets

Watching a Turkish sunset dip over the horizon is a favourite evening activity of mine because I am not talking about average sunsets here. The Mediterranean and Aegean coasts, boast of vibrant orange sunsets that are big attractions for tourists, who cannot resist getting their camera out to snap the view.

6: Catch your dinner

Of course, if you do not like fish or seafood, the cook will whip up many alternative dishes, but for fish lovers, part of the thrill is catching your dinner and BBQing it. From sea to plate within 20 minutes. You cannot get any fresher than that!

7: Snorkelling and diving

Most gulet boats have snorkelling equipment on board, which you are welcome to use when they stop for swimming breaks. Alternatively, Turkey is a scuba diving paradise with many underwater wrecks and various sea life. If you spend half a day in any scuba diving town, your boat captain can pre-book lessons for you, whether you are a novice or experienced.

8: Ice-cream deliveries!

In many spots around the coastline where boats dock in for swimming or overnight breaks, floating ice-cream boats offer the perfect refreshment. Pulling alongside the gulet and coming on board with many choices, it is a quirky concept of waiter service.

9: Jet-skis and parasailing

TURKISH GULETS - TRADITIONAL TURKISH GULET BOAT

The most popular type of traditional yacht for the “ blue cruise ” is the gulet.

The traditional Turkish Gulet is a handmade vessel crafted from wood by highly skilled master craftsmen. Also known as motor sailors, Gulets are extremely comfortable and ideal for long sea voyages as well as inshore coastal trips such as wooden boats or wooden yachts.

The origin of Gulets can be traced back to the Bodrum area in Turkey but the growth of a demanding market led to their construction being started in Bozburun, Marmaris, Fethiye, and Istanbul. High-quality and durable wood such as teak, mahogany, and iroko are chiefly used to construct beautiful and sturdy Gulets.

Turkish Gulet Types

Gulet: The most popular type of traditional Gulet for the “Blue Cruise” is the gulet. It is a cruising gulet with large, rounded stern area which is well-suited for comfortable eating and lounging. Gulets usually have ketch (marconi) or schooner-rigging, with one, two or three foresails. Their lenghts change between 15 to 55 meters and they accommodate 6 to 24 persons in 3 to 12 cabins with private shower and WC.

Aynakic (Ketch):  It has a raised, squared-off stern that allows space for additional cabins below compared to a gulet. There may be a large master cabin at the stern. They accommodate 6 to 24 persons in 3 to 12 double bedded cabins with private shower and WC. They are generally ketch (marconi)-rigging and measure 15 to 55 meters.

Tirhandil: It is the oldest type of local wooden gulet with a pointed stern which is suited best for sailing in Aegean waters. Originally most had lateen sails; now the rigging varies from sloop to cutter to gaff. They normally measure between 11 to 24 meters in lenght and accommodate 6 to 10 persons in 3 to 5 double bedded cabins with private shower and WC.

FACILITIES ON TURKISH GULET

The design of traditional Turkish Gulets has indeed evolved along the ages and a modern day Gulet is a plush and comfortable blue cruising Gulet varying from 11 to 55 meters (36-180 feet) in length. The length of the Gulet is proportional to its passenger capacity. Gulets are furnished with great taste and style to offer maximum comfort and facilities to the passengers on board. Each standard cabin in a Gulet has portholes, wardrobe, mirror, air conditioning system, en-suite shower and WC. Master cabins are furnished beautifully with sofa sets, dresser, work desk and Jacuzzi or hydro massage shower to pamper the guests on board. There are separate cabins for the crew.

The deck area is exceptionally spacious and complemented by the finest sailing equipment, sun mattresses and cushions so that passengers can enjoy a pleasurable vacation at sea! Whether the guests want to bask in the sun or enjoy adrenaline-pumping surfing at sea, there are all sorts of arrangements available on the charter for them to avail and spend their time. Passengers can also relax at the large aft deck that is furnished with a comfortable aft traditional deck sofa or enjoy fine dining in spacious salons in the dining area or simply lounge about in the beautiful and fully equipped galley.

Superb! Like: The support from Erkan was superb. Our trip was originally scheduled for 2020, but Erkan facilitated a roll over to 2021 and again to 2022 due to the Covid travel restrictions from South Africa. Erkan is fantastic as the go-between and nothing is ever too much trouble for him. The Love Boat was exactly as pictured and the staff were fantastic. We had one or two translation issues / misunderstandings, but they were very helpful, polite and friendly the entire time. The food was superb! The Captain was also very accommodating with the air-conditioning, leaving it on for us most of the time. Dislike: Having a couple of industrial size ice machines would be great and making sure that the drinks fridges are re-filled every morning, so that we do not have to do it ourselves. Ensuring that we had enough ice bought from land every day was also a pain - we did run out of ice on one occasion. 26.08.2022

Erkan is the most professional, accountable and dedicated person I have ever dealt with in the space of Marine business (I am a Yachtsman myself and own a sailing yacht). Erkan loves his job and it's his pride to make you happy and satisfied. It's paramount for him and that's what makes him unique. He has never disappointed on expectations for the entire period I have worked with him. He just takes all stress and anxiety out of the equation and makes it easy on you all along the process. He listens to your requests, proposes solutions, always honest in his assessments and never tries to "over sale" or "force" things on you. He understands that success in business is on the log term and building strong trustful relationships is key. This year in particular, our requests were numerous and more stringent to accommodate all sanitary measures relatives to COVID (Crew vaccination/testing, PCR tests, social distancing....etc...).... His other colleagues I dealt with were also very professional and very eager to help and support. I will continue to charter boats with Erkan every year it's possible for us....and the best thing for me to know ahead is that, next time, it will be another success story. If you are looking to charter a boat, hire the services of Erkan and his company....you will be glad you did. For this year, we chartered the LOVE BOAT.... The only boat available at the time of booking that could accommodate 32 of our extended family (7 yo to 77 yo) . Simply: We had by far the most memorable vacation with the extended family and we have built unique memories that we will cherish for the rest of our lives. The boat is in a good/fair condition but the Captain, Crew and the Chef went above and beyond to make our vacation a true delight. The Owner of the boat is a great gentleman, who came to greet us, very welcoming and very diligent accommodating our sanitary requests because of Covid pandemic. The Captain was just the best Captain for all the boats I have chartered for the past 7 years. Professional attitude all across the board and attention to details was a focus for comfort, needs and privacy. The Chef was awesome, cooking with a smile and loved to please us. Absolute hoot of a holiday - loved the boat, the staff, and Turkey Like: The crew were ALL fantastic, Jana looked after our every need and both the captains were very capable and very willing to please. All the food was delicious. We even had midnight snacks provided on a couple of occasions! Loved the top deck cabins and the fact that the lower cabins are very spacious. Dislike: For a boat that sleeps 32 people, 14 sun loungers are no way near enough - even if we just had the mattress rather than the whole bed it would have been fine. Jana did go out and buy some thicker towels for us to lie on but it really needs sorting out properly with beds. One request was fresh bread every day and this did not happen, also it was noted that we had a vegetarian and one person that did not eat fish, shellfish and lamb, on the lunches/dinners that was served there was nothing else for the two people to eat apart from the vegetables and sides that accompanied our meal - it wasn't a huge problem but I would have expected a vegetarian meal for both to be served otherwise why fill in the preference forms? 08.09.2019
