Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race 2023

Huntress is a development of the Sydney 38 from the Australian Murray Burns Dovell stable.  Queenslander Brent Dowton took charge of his newly purchased Huntress late last year when the Sydney 39 cruiser/racer was sailed up from Sydney where previous owner, Philip Grove, raced her regularly out of the CYCA and up north, with wins at Airlie Beach and Hamilton Island Race Weeks.  Since his purchase, Dowton has sailed her to ninth overall in the RQYS’s Short Passage Race in September. The boat is skippered by experienced yachtswoman, Victoria Logan.

Huntress is a beautiful 2014 Lagoon 62. She sleeps 8 guests in 4 cabins. Master cabin suite includes seating/lounge area and desk, queen size berth, large glass shower stall and separate vanity area and offers direct access to aft deck for slipping out to gaze at the stars and take a midnight dip off the stern. The master suite also has direct private access to the main salon. The other 3 spacious guest cabins each offer a queen size berth, stall shower, electric toilet and vanity. All cabins have individual a/c controls for guests comfort. CREW has separate cabin with bath. Top flybridge lounge is extremely spacious and offers a 360 degree view and amazing breeze. Aft deck offering alfresco dining and lounging area and the main salon offers lounging area plus formal dining.

Represented by DMA Yachting, the majestic charter yacht HUNTRESS is a 62 ft sailing catamaran. The highlights of HUNTRESS are her absolute comfort and fantastic layout. HUNTRESS spends the summer and winter season in US Virgin Islands. She was delivered by the ship builder Lagoon in 2014. The expansive yacht layout features 4 large cabins and easily accommodates a maximum of 8 guests.

HUNTRESS is classified primarily as a sailing catamaran. The the core layout is spread out from the main saloon, which connects to the aft deck. MEET THE CREW - 2019/20 SEASON Captain: Keagan Steyn Chef/First Mate: Olivia Boyd Keagan completed his Royal Yacht Academy (RYA) Coastal Yacht Master License with Commercial Endorsement in June 2017. His love for sailing began through exposure to boating and sailing with his family, particularly in the Virgin Islands. He has thousands of logged miles and has captained charters in the USVI and BVI for the past 4 years. Keagan has led an adventurous lifestyle during his 25 years, beginning with his early years in South Africa and life on a game farm riding ATV’s, camping, hunting and skeet shooting. His family relocated to the USA where he continued his outdoor adventures water skiing, wake-boarding and boating at their lake house in Virginia as well as snow skiing, snowboarding and dirt bike riding. He has also bungee jumped the 3rd highest bungee in the world at 216m, has been shark cage diving and sky-diving. He too is scuba certified. Keagan took a gap year after high school and back-packed through Fiji, Australia, Thailand, Cambodia, Panama and Cost Rica before attending Colorado University where he earned his degree in marketing and in addition, an entrepreneurial certificate. Keagan is a ‘people person’, hence enjoys meeting new people and building close relationships with others. His peers describe him as an outgoing, enthusiastic person with a positive attitude and terrific communication skills. Olivia is a natural people-person with a talent for making you feel as though you’ve known her forever – fun loving, vivacious and energetic – she will be sure to create a warm stay that will be enjoyable and carefree for each of her guests. Warm weather and a passion for the sea brought her from Northern Virginia to The University of Tampa, Florida, where she thoroughly enjoyed being closer to the sea. She has always been an avid traveler and found a love for the Virgin Islands after visiting many times with her family during her childhood. Olivia's cooking experience has come from helping and working in her home kitchen with family and friends. Her family are wonderfully sociable and so she has grown up in a home with great hosts as her role models. She attended Ashburton Chef's Academy in the UK to further improve her culinary skills and has had 3 years experience working on charters in the USVI/BVI. . Along with her enthusiasm for travel, cooking, and hospitality, she has also found joy in photography. After studying not only digital, but film photography, Olivia will be sure to capture each Kodak moment as they come. Salvaging stranded Sydney to Hobart yacht Huntress could be too big a job, experts warn

On remote Christmas Beach on Tasmania's truwana/Cape Barren Island, you would rarely see any evidence of human life.

The waves that crash on the pristine white sand would normally bring shells and seaweed.

But a string of dramatic events has meant a much-loved yacht now sits lonely and motionless on the beach.

There are still many unanswered questions in the story of the 12-metre cruiser Huntress.

Its crew made an "extremely difficult and heart-wrenching decision" to abandon it after it lost its rudder during the Sydney to Hobart yacht race.

It was then left to drift for a week before it washed ashore.

Why wasn't Huntress rescued at sea?

Passengers on a cruise ship have told the ABC they spotted the yacht as they were travelling from New Zealand to Melbourne on January 2.

The passengers said the cruise ship turned around and headed towards Huntress when there was no response from the yacht in case a rescue or assistance was required. 

Images and videos from onboard the ship show a ghostly Huntress appearing through fog and bobbing around in the waves. 

An alert issued by Marine and Safety Tasmania (MAST) said an at-sea salvage attempt was due to take place — but before that could happen, the vessel had gone ashore.

"MAST understands there was contact with a fisherman, but I'm not quite certain about that and why that didn't happen," said MAST's Peter Hopkins.

"Whether or not a rescue or a salvage could have been made earlier, that's one for the salvage company and the insurance to work out."

After being rescued and taken to Flinders Island, the crew said a salvage operation was "already being planned for her safe transfer to mainland Tasmania".

But just days later, in a now-deleted post, the boat's owner said the team were "angry, devastated and at a complete loss as to how the hell it came to this, given she was floating around for a week now with ample opportunity to be towed to safety".

Rod Chamberlain, who owns marine services company Hurricane Marine, said it "seemed strange" the vessel had not been able to be saved while still at sea, suggesting it may have been held up with the yacht's insurer.

"A salvor needs to be appointed by the insurance company," he said.

His company offers salvage services in similar incidents and said it was always going to be a tricky situation.

"A yacht without a rudder is one of the most difficult things to tow," he said.

"A yacht with no steering is about as useless a boat as you can get."

What happens now?

Images of the yacht show its mast has broken, but the hull appears to be intact.

But the clock is ticking on the salvage operation, with concerns growing that it could break apart.

Mr Hopkins described it as needing a "massive effort" to get it off the beach.

"It may have been easier to pick the boat up when it was in one piece when it was drifting around," he said.

"Now the boat has beached itself, it's going to be a lot bigger operation than just simply putting a tow line on the boat and towing it back to a mooring.

"The biggest threat is the boat filling up with sand and seawater and gradually breaking apart."

Mr Chamberlain agreed.

"Often you have to use excavators to help you in that situation, but that is not an option in this area due to its remoteness," he said.

He said the sooner it was saved, the better.

"The biggest danger with any vessel on a beach is that if the sea gets around it, they soon start to break up," he said.

"Often it can be too late, and you end up with a clean-up, which becomes messy and more expensive."

What's happening on the island?

Aboriginal sea rangers on the island were the first to report the yacht had washed ashore.

"It's a very important pristine piece of Aboriginal land, and we want the salvage to be successful, safe and quick as possible," said Vica Bayley from the Aboriginal Land Council of Tasmania.

"A modern yacht like this, full of fibreglass, plastics, stainless steel and, obviously, diesel fuel, is a completely different kettle of fish and poses a much more significant environmental risk to that part of the island."

A salvage attempt is expected to take place this weekend.

"If the boat does remain in one piece and they can get her off, then there won't be any problems," Mr Hopkins said.

"Let's just hope they do get the boat off in one piece. She's a lovely boat and I can understand the angst the crew and especially the owners are going through at the moment."

The ABC contacted the owner of Huntress and the insurer for comment.

Twin Flame is a beautiful 2014 Lagoon 62. She sleeps 8 guests in 4 cabins. Master cabin suite includes seating/lounge area and desk, queen size berth, large glass shower stall and separate vanity area and offers direct access to aft deck for slipping out to gaze at the stars and take a midnight dip off the stern. The master suite also has direct private access to the main salon. The other 3 spacious guest cabins each offer a queen size berth, stall shower, electric toilet and vanity. All cabins have individual a/c controls for guests comfort. CREW has separate cabin with bath, and if cliet desires use of the twin bunk cabin, the crew will use one of the queen cabins for the charter. Top flybridge lounge is extremely spacious and offers a 360 degree view and amazing breeze. Aft deck offering alfresco dining and lounging area and the main salon offers lounging area plus formal dining.

TWIN FLAME is classified primarily as a sailing catamaran. The central space of the yacht is the main saloon, which connects to the aft deck. MEET THE CREW - 2022/23 SEASON Captain: Keagan Steyn Chef: Olivia Boyd Stewardess/First Mate: Haley Bovino Keagan completed his Royal Yacht Academy (RYA) Coastal Yacht Master License with Commercial Endorsement in June 2017. His love for sailing began through exposure to boating and sailing with his family, particularly in the Virgin Islands. He has thousands of logged miles and has captained charters in the USVI and BVI for the past 4 years. Keagan has led an adventurous lifestyle during his 25 years, beginning with his early years in South Africa and life on a game farm riding ATV’s, camping, hunting and skeet shooting. His family relocated to the USA where he continued his outdoor adventures water skiing, wake-boarding and boating at their lake house in Virginia as well as snow skiing, snowboarding and dirt bike riding. He has also bungee jumped the 3rd highest bungee in the world at 216m, has been shark cage diving and sky-diving. He too is scuba certified. Keagan took a gap year after high school and back-packed through Fiji, Australia, Thailand, Cambodia, Panama and Cost Rica before attending Colorado University where he earned his degree in marketing and in addition, an entrepreneurial certificate. Keagan is a ‘people person’, hence enjoys meeting new people and building close relationships with others. His peers describe him as an outgoing, enthusiastic person with a positive attitude and terrific communication skills. Olivia is a natural people-person with a talent for making you feel as though you’ve known her forever – fun loving, vivacious and energetic – she will be sure to create a warm stay that will be enjoyable and carefree for each of her guests. Warm weather and a passion for the sea brought her from Northern Virginia to The University of Tampa, Florida, where she thoroughly enjoyed being closer to the sea. She has always been an avid traveler and found a love for the Virgin Islands after visiting many times with her family during her childhood. Olivia's cooking experience has come from helping and working in her home kitchen with family and friends. Her family are wonderfully sociable and so she has grown up in a home with great hosts as her role models. She attended Ashburton Chef's Academy in the UK to further improve her culinary skills and has had 3 years experience working on charters in the USVI/BVI. . Along with her enthusiasm for travel, cooking, and hospitality, she has also found joy in photography. After studying not only digital, but film photography, Olivia will be sure to capture each Kodak moment as they come. Haley, your third crew member aboard Huntress, developed a connection to the ocean from growing up along the beaches of New Jersey. Her journey to the world of yachting began as a teenager, when she embarked on an unforgettable catamaran trip in the BVIs. From the breathtaking sunsets and snorkeling adventures to the exceptional crew who hosted her, Haley knew this was an experience she wanted to recreate for others who are seeking the perfect week in the islands. After graduating from Southern Methodist University with a marketing degree, she decided to pursue this dream and joined the Huntress team. Known for her upbeat and warm personality, Haley enjoys connecting with each guest. Whether she’s creating refreshing cocktails or leading snorkeling adventures, you can expect a detail oriented and perfectly curated vacation. . Master License with Commercial Endorsement in June 2017. His love for sailing began through exposure to boating and sailing with his family, particularly in the Virgin Islands. He has thousands of logged miles and has captained charters in the USVI and BVI for the past 4 years.<br /> <br /> Keagan has led an adventurous lifestyle during his 25 years, beginning with his early years in South Africa and life on a game farm riding ATV’s, camping, hunting and skeet shooting. His family relocated to the USA where he continued his outdoor adventures water skiing, wake-boarding and boating at their lake house in Virginia as well as snow skiing, snowboarding and dirt bike riding. He has also bungee jumped the 3rd highest bungee in the world at 216m, has been shark cage diving and sky-diving. He too is scuba certified. <br /> <br /> Keagan took a gap year after high school and back-packed through Fiji, Australia, Thailand, Cambodia, Panama and Cost Rica before attending Colorado University where he earned his degree in marketing and in addition, an entrepreneurial certificate.<br /> <br /> Keagan is a ‘people person’, hence enjoys meeting new people and building close relationships with others. His peers describe him as an outgoing, enthusiastic person with a positive attitude and terrific communication skills. <br /> <br /> Olivia is a natural people-person with a talent for making you feel as though you’ve known her forever – fun loving, vivacious and energetic – she will be sure to create a warm stay that will be enjoyable and carefree for each of her guests. <br /> <br /> Warm weather and a passion for the sea brought her from Northern Virginia to The University of Tampa, Florida, where she thoroughly enjoyed being closer to the sea. She has always been an avid traveler and found a love for the Virgin Islands after visiting many times with her family during her childhood.<br /> <br /> Olivia's cooking experience has come from helping and working in her home kitchen with family and friends. Her family are wonderfully sociable and so she has grown up in a home with great hosts as her role models. She attended Ashburton Chef's Academy in the UK to further improve her culinary skills and has had 3 years experience working on charters in the USVI/BVI. <br /> . <br /> Along with her enthusiasm for travel, cooking, and hospitality, she has also found joy in photography. After studying not only digital, but film photography, Olivia will be sure to capture each Kodak moment as they come. <br /> <br /> Haley, your third crew member aboard Huntress, developed a connection to the ocean from growing up along the beaches of New Jersey. Her journey to the world of yachting began as a teenager, when she embarked on an unforgettable catamaran trip in the BVIs. From the breathtaking sunsets and snorkeling adventures to the exceptional crew who hosted her, Haley knew this was an experience she wanted to recreate for others who are seeking the perfect week in the islands. After graduating from Southern Methodist University with a marketing degree, she decided to pursue this dream and joined the Huntress team. His love for sailing began through exposure to boating and sailing with his family, particularly in the Virgin Islands. He has thousands of logged miles and has captained charters in the USVI and BVI for the past 4 years.<br /> <br /> Keagan has led an adventurous lifestyle during his 25 years, beginning with his early years in South Africa and life on a game farm riding ATV’s, camping, hunting and skeet shooting. His family relocated to the USA where he continued his outdoor adventures water skiing, wake-boarding and boating at their lake house in Virginia as well as snow skiing, snowboarding and dirt bike riding. He has also bungee jumped the 3rd highest bungee in the world at 216m, has been shark cage diving and sky-diving. He too is scuba certified. <br /> <br /> Keagan took a gap year after high school and back-packed through Fiji, Australia, Thailand, Cambodia, Panama and Cost Rica before attending Colorado University where he earned his degree in marketing and in addition, an entrepreneurial certificate.<br /> <br /> Keagan is a ‘people person’, hence enjoys meeting new people and building close relationships with others. His peers describe him as an outgoing, enthusiastic person with a positive attitude and terrific communication skills. <br /> <br /> Olivia is a natural people-person with a talent for making you feel as though you’ve known her forever – fun loving, vivacious and energetic – she will be sure to create a warm stay that will be enjoyable and carefree for each of her guests. <br /> <br /> Warm weather and a passion for the sea brought her from Northern Virginia to The University of Tampa, Florida, where she thoroughly enjoyed being closer to the sea. She has always been an avid traveler and found a love for the Virgin Islands after visiting many times with her family during her childhood.<br /> <br /> Olivia's cooking experience has come from helping and working in her home kitchen with family and friends. Her family are wonderfully sociable and so she has grown up in a home with great hosts as her role models. The 34.1m/111'11" motor yacht 'Huntress' was built by Westport Yachts in the United States at their Westport shipyard. Her interior is styled by design house Taylor Olson and she was delivered to her owner in May 2019. This luxury vessel's exterior design is the work of Westport Yachts.

Huntress has been designed to comfortably accommodate up to 8 guests in 4 suites comprising one VIP cabin. She is also capable of carrying up to 5 crew onboard to ensure a relaxed luxury yacht experience.

Range & Performance

Built with a GRP hull and GRP superstructure, with grp & teak decks, she benefits from a semi-displacement hull to provide exceptional seakeeping and impressive speeds. Powered by twin diesel Caterpillar (C32 ACERT) 1,900hp engines, she comfortably cruises at 22 knots, reaches a maximum speed of 25 knots with a range of up to 2,500 nautical miles from her 20,819 litre fuel tanks at 12 knots. Her low draft of 1.6m/5'3" makes her primed for accessing shallow areas and cruising close to the shorelines. Her water tanks store around 3,880 Litres of fresh water.

Pleasantly surprised, service is good so is the food. Great selection of Fusion food, a mixture of Italian, Japanese, European, Asian etc. A pleasantly nice dining experience, highly recommended, a must try!

Best food, best view in Moscow. absolutely faultless from arrival to finish. Best risotto i had for many years absolutely perfectly cooked. The view on Ukrainian hotel and the white house by night is amazing

Had to wait for the food for 1.5 hours and then another 20 minutes for the check. Finally called for the manager and he offered... a 10% discount as a compensation. Simply pathetic! The food is mediocre at best. Not bad per se, but one... would expect something better considering the prices. There are many places to eat in area that are much better. Avoid this one at all costs. Food is very expensive,very pretentious, doesn't worth that money. Portions are very small. We ordered ravioli and there were 4! Four raviolis! For almost 15 euros. Then we asked to bring us dessert menu but nothing, they didn't even bothered, so we payed and left... without dessert. Very poor service for that price. More

This is a very good restaurant. The food is really good, maybe the best in Moscow. The service is also good. The view from the restaurant is great. The prices are very high.

I often visit this restaurant and must say it’s one of the best in Moscow in terms of quality and service. Staff really try hard to make sure that you are happy and satisfied. Customer service is a huge problem in Moscow but Chaika sets... a great example for others in the industry! Food is delicious and the menu has lots of options for everyone! Visited this lovely restaurant with a friend of mine. It was relaxingly warm August evening - so the place on the river seemed like a good idea. We came quite early and the restaurant was not full. The hostesses kindly offered several places to sit... and we chose to sit on the sofas. We had some wine, which was good. We struggled a bit when deciding about the food as few options (scallops) were not available. Fish on ice on display did not look very fresh. To be honest it was an unusually hot August and it is probably understandable that some see food options were not available. However, we did manage to order something and sat waiting and looking onto the river. My long-legged friend struggled sitting at the low sofa and the manager noticed that, offering as a very good, proper table beside the open window. It was nice touch and I was very pleased by their polite observations and immediate reaction to solve the problem. Food was quite good and presentation was perfect. Perhaps I can something about the food, but 1 visit is not enough to criticize or make a definitive opinion. Overall, quality place, which of course, does not come cheap. I would recommend this restaurant without hesitation. More

Located on a boat at Krasnopresenskaya River Bank this 5 Star Restaurant transforms into a party location due to multiple groups hosting events. Impressive wine selection, Asian and European kitchen...

The luxurious atmosphere of this place, the view and the location make it quite outstanding. We had dinner here with friends and the dishes were amazing, accompanied by a chilled bottle of Chablis, it really made me feel as if it was a part of... the classic Russian movie. More
