S/V Déjà Vu is a 1972 Catalac 9M catamaran, for sale by owner. A hybrid with sail/solar propulsion, its main advantages are: sustainability, silence, no fumes/engine troubles, little energy costs, easy maintaining.

After more than 30 years of experience in designing and building solar powered boats, I ventured into the combination of sail and solar propulsion for a sea/inland waterways cruising boat using only renewable energies. It should be added that I use the boat as a means of travelling! – Europe is so much richer for cruising not using only the different seas but also rivers and canals.

So I replaced the diesel engines in a well-maintained Catalac 9m built in 1972 by 2 electric motors. These have the advantage that they require hardly any maintenance and are also highly efficient in the partial load range.

S/V Gem is a 2006 Gemini 105MC catamaran, for sale by owner. This is a one of a kind Gemini 105mc, perfectly rigged for single/short hand sailing with furling screecher sail (self tacking), furling genoa, AND furling inmast mainsail! Sparcraft mast, boom and standing rigging installed in 2015, along with a new Yanmar 30hp inboard engine with low running hours (+-1400h).

All systems have been maintained meticulously, and ongoing cosmetic maintenance is currently being carried out (interior teak, gelcoat polishing etc). We have not spared any expense since we’ve owned her. We had a survey carried out last year and no serious issues were found. Small finding have been sorted out since the survey (small sail repair, new genoa line, service of liferaft and fire fighting equipment). All up to date!

Included in the sale is a berth at the beautiful Preveza Marina, Greece. It is valid from date of listing until July 2024. Preveza is a wonderful town at the door of the Ionian Islands. Great staff and amazing facilities. A huge benefit to any prospective buyer who wishes to sail Western Greece and further into the Med! This is providing the marina is in agreement at the time of sale, but there should be no issue.

S/V Sabatica is a 2019 Bali 4.1 catamaran, for sale by owner. Never chartered. Second owners. Low engine hours. Major upgrades in 2023 for performance, comfort and security on the hook: Watermaker, Washing Machine, Ultra Anchor, 600 Ah Lithium House Batteries, Stainless Steel Solar Platform for a total of 1610W production, Solenoid switch propane control from the galley, Bow Sprit and Screecher, window screens, full cushions and foredeck sun shade. Hauled out and bottom painted in 2023. Engines and sail drives serviced in 2023.

We chose the Bali 4.1 model in general, and this 4 cabin/2 bathroom layout in particular, because we felt it offered the best comfort and living space in a vessel of this size while remaining a lively and seaworthy vessel.

Currently docked in Licata, Sicily. Could be available as soon as August in Western Italy or September in the Balearics. Thereafter moored in Southern Spain. Other locations are possible subject to negotiation. Sabatica would be sold ready to go with tools and cruising gear.

S/V Victoria is a 2019 Lagoon 50 catamaran, for sale by owner.

This is our family business charter boat based in Athens, Greece. It is the 6 cabin, 4 bathroom version with 2 extra cabins at the bow and an extra WC for the crew. It it in perfect shape with brand new anti-fouling, new props, a new anchor and chain and more. The Catalac 8M is a pocket cruising catamaran which has a solid reputation for quality, strength and durability. Although classified as a pocket cruiser, the 8M was designed with blue water sailing in mind. The 70 amps of charging and 70 gallons of stock water tanks make even these smaller boats terrific coastal cruisers. 

My Way’s hull is constructed with a solid fiberglass hulls. She floats on a single pivoting Yanmar 2GM engine that allows for amazing maneuverability. We installed new batteries last year.

Stone Age settlers in Europe were seafarers, new evidence suggests

Sailors during the Stone Age may have used catamarans to cross the Mediterranean 7,000 years ago, archaeologists believe, after discovering the first evidence of seafaring in Europe.

Five large carved wooden canoes hollowed out from the trunks of trees were excavated from a Neolithic period village called La Marmotta, near Rome, in Italy.

The site is a submerged village under Lake Bracciano, not far from the Mediterranean Sea, leaving experts to suspect the canoes were used for long-distance excursions.

Although boats have been uncovered in the Netherlands, France and Germany, dating as early as 10,000 years ago, they were thought to have been used to navigate local waterways and lakes.

The new boats were up to 36 feet (11 metres) long, and showed evidence of “T-shaped” holed objects that may have been used to fasten ropes to sails, suggesting that sailors were venturing further afield in the craft.

Experts suspect that the boats may even have been joined together to create a double hull in the form of a catamaran, which may have provided greater safety, stability and capacity for the transport of people, animals and goods.

Archaeologists from the Spanish National Research Council, in Barcelona, said the dugouts, coupled with the occupation of nearby islands, was “irrefutable proof” that Neolithic societies could travel across seas.

“This is enormously significant because all the canoes found at European Mesolithic and Neolithic sites are associated with lakes and therefore with sailing in those waters,” the authors wrote in the journal Plos One.

“This study reveals the amazing technological sophistication of early agricultural and pastoral communities, highlighting their woodworking skills and the construction of complex vessels.

“La Marmotta is causing a literal sea change in our view of those first Neolithic farming groups.”

Tests have shown that it is possible to cover around 30 nautical miles a day in similar boats, even with inexperienced sailors, suggesting that Neolithic communities could have covered long distances in a short time.

Usually wooden boats do not survive in the archaeological record but the canoes were waterlogged when La Marmotta was flooded by Lake Bracciano .

During Neolithic times, the lake was smaller than today, and the shoreline further from the La Marmotta settlement, suggesting villages were sailing their boats along the nearby River Arrone, which connects to the Mediterranean.

Many of the first Neolithic settlements in Europe are along the coastline, leading researchers to propose that they may have arrived by sea. But until now there has been no concrete evidence of how the movement of people and goods was happening.

At La Marmotta, archaeologists also found evidence that obsidian, from the nearby island of Lipari and Palmarola, was being used for tool-making, suggesting the stone was being imported over the water.

Experts said the five canoes showed that the villages at La Marmotta must have had specialist craftsmen tasked with jobs other than farming or gathering food.

They said the canoes represented knowledge, experience and practical skills accumulated over centuries and might help explain how agriculture spread throughout the Mediterranean and into Northern Europe so quickly.
