Description.

The C-Yacht 10.40 (formerly Compromis) is a high quality Dutch sailing yacht. Her ergonomic and sheltered cockpit, behind the partly fixed spray hood make her very comfortable. Her current owner has spared no expense to keep her in this condition. She is equipped with a removable cockpit tent and various navigation equipment such as 2x chart plotter, AIS, depth/speed/wind gauge which were installed in 2019. Maneuvering is child's play through the bow thruster, should you unexpectedly hit the quay or bollard, the robust rubber bumper offers relief. The center cockpit is comfortable and there is an extra step integrated in the deck to bridge the cockpit edge. The gangways are free of teak and offer good passage all around. Gas springs have been placed in the flaps of the cockpit and anchor locker, making her very friendly to use and you will notice the details of this renowned Dutch yard.

The saloon is spacious with on starboard the navigation corner with swivel seat and various built-in equipment and the cozy round seat around the folding table, behind the back are several closets, on board the C-1040 is no shortage of storage options! In the bow a 2-persons Vbed with on both sides closets. In the stern on starboard we find the wet cell of generous size, also here is a passage to the deep (substantial) port chest, this makes it very pleasant when there are things below easy to reach. On port side the longitudinal galley with on both sides cupboard space and cardanic 3-burner stove with oven. Through the galley we enter the owners cabin. This is a generous space with a seat, various closets and double bed in the transverse direction.

The prestigious Dutch brand C-Yacht has launched a new 36-footer, but does the centre cockpit format work on smaller yachts? Chris Beeson finds out

I’m not sure the centre cockpit idea works below 40ft LOA – the compromises in headroom are too severe and a decent-sized saloon means the forward cabin is more like a padded cell. However, for the shorter sailing couple, she’s a capable cruiser, superbly built, easy to handle, enjoyable at the helm, seems to perform very respectably and is a cinch to maintain. She won’t win many beauty contests but if you prefer sailing rather than looking at boats, where’s the problem?
