The Powercat Company was founded in 2009, when company CEO Richard Ford forged a relationship with the renown production boat yard, Horizon Yachts in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. Over the past decade, the range has grown to include the PC52, PC60, PC68 and a fully custom PC74. Richard and his team work closely with Horizon Yachts to design and produce these magnificently appointed PowerCats. A Catamaran Boat

Catamarans have two hulls, which provide more stability in the water. They are less likely to roll or pitch, which means they offer a more comfortable ride, especially in rough conditions and for people who are prone to seasickness.

Power catamarans are typically more fuel-efficient than monohull boats of the same size. It requires less energy and yields more performance per HP. The two hulls create little to no drag or resistance to get on plane, resulting in greater fuel economy. Allowing for longer journeys with fewer refueling stops. 

Power catamarans have a shallow draft which means they can navigate in diverse cruising grounds – beaches, islands, rivers, channels, and coastal areas with limited water depth. 

An Express Cruiser

Powered By Outboard Motors

Outboard motors can provide excellent performance and speed. They can often reach higher speeds than inboard motors of the same horsepower.

Outboard motors have a simple and standard design and are relatively easy to install, they do not require additional components such as a transmission, propeller shaft, couplings, and struts, that inboard engines do. They are easily assessable and cost less to maintain than inboard motors because they are mounted outside at the rear of the boat.

Outboard motors are often designed with features that make them easy to maneuver. For example, they can be tilted or rotated to provide precise control and handling in tight spaces and shallower waters.

Captain Confidence: Turning Closing Day Jitters into Seamanship Success

This is a great place to start if you ever wanted a custom catamaran…saving over 2 years of construction time.

Now, about the custom catamaran.....This cat is 86' long and 42' wide and with keels and can be beached or set on a spit at low tide to do clean up or repaint bottoms.  She is a custom composite catamaran built with Airex foam core, tri- and bi-axial fabric and Vinylester resin, carbon fiber and epoxy resin, Kevlar  where needed for beaching. 

We are continuing the build, and she is in final fairing for painting.  Forebeam has been installed and the drop down beaching ladder which will allow the front bow net to be ordered.  The aft deck shower and bathroom being completed while the aft deck bar or lounging area has not been started yet, that whole layout will be up to the new owner.  Forward crew quarters are about finished as seen in photos.  Engines are installed (Twin 315 HP Yanmar diesels), watermaker is here, 1800 GPD, more than a gallon per minute when running.  Heat and A/C will be water chiller type system as well as conventional heat pump type. The radar arch will also handle an awning for the upper aft deck lounging.   Draft is about 5' with keel, rudders (Carbon fiber posts) and props (full feathering and adjustable pitch) also hang down.

The planned colors are metallic 2 stage PPG paint, dark grey around windows, bronze hulls and light Gold Champagne topsides, all with clear coat.  This cat is 100% foam core construction.   She is virtually unsinkable, she does not sweat and is 33% stronger under impact than solid fiberglass or aluminum, and is about 30% lighter.

The electric engine controls are located on the port and starboard aft deck as well as the helm station.  There is a bow thruster controller and refueling station with tank quantity gauge and back splash protection fill boxes located there as well.  Fresh water inlets are eye level on each side from the dock, electric inlet is through the engine room port window and the waste pump outlets on each side at eye level and easy access from the dock or from a pump out boat.  Lots of thought went into everything as well as our 20,000 mile of cruising experience.

She will be a cutter rig with the 2 sails up front, roller furling (electric/hydraulic.)   All sails handled from helm as well as at the mast.  The bow nets are large and comfortable and she also has a Parachute Sea Anchor system.

Main salon is one level with the galley aft port, but is not built yet.  There are two large pass through windows that open to the outside bar and BBQ area for parties on the aft deck.  Counters can be whatever height you want as well as center island if wanted, lots of room about 1,000 sq. ft. up here.  Double entry doors are planned swinging inward with about 5' width when both opened.

All forward salon windows are flush hatches and can be opened for more fresh air.  Below the front window is a shelf seat that also acts as a Dorado box that allows air inside when all the opening windows across the front of the salon are closed.  Heat and A/C for starboard side state rooms is well under way.  Each room has its own air outlet, fans cooling or heating.

The Owner’s stateroom is located on the main salon, bed and closets, about 225 sq. ft.  Stairs down to the bath area which has a 6' wide walk-in shower.  The bathroom area is 15' front to back and over 8' wide and has a 6' long counter with opening ports at eye level on the outboard side.  On the inboard side, the closets have back panels that remove to access the train of food Totes as the underwing and salon floor are separated about 21" tall and 30" wide tunnels.

The other three guest staterooms under the main salon are under the floor with queen size beds, one of which can be two single beds or a queen, all 15' long and 8' wide.  Each stateroom has their own shower, toilet, sink, and counter with opening ports and air conditioning.  There are two crew quarters at the front of each bow each with queen beds, shower, head and settee.

There are 4 fresh water tanks installed at this time, 50 gallons each with room to install more.  The fuel tanks built in under hull floors are 1,000 gallon each.  There are two 500 gallon black water hold  tanks and the heads are 24 VDC with Macerator and valve for over board empty when off shore or they can be pumped at waste stations.

Pilot house is open to aft deck, about 3' high off aft deck and quite wide for the 2 helm chairs.  Stairs lead up and out to the upper aft deck lounge area with a sundeck.  The pilot house windows all open and has moon roof sliding hatches overhead as well as removable side windows.  Main sail boom handled at the helm behind Captain’s seat with the electric winch control for head sails located on the front panel bulkhead. The aft radar arch was planned to have an extendable awning to provide aft upper deck shade.

The aft lower deck can have a large bar, dining and lounging areas, has an aft head, shower, bar and ample seating with storage, whatever you want.  There are lots of indirect lighting planned, under the walkway on each side heading forward where the electric hatches are for access to large crew quarters.  Main salon windows are tinted dual pane insulated tempered glass.

Aft boarding stairs lift up electrically to house more toys; on the starboard side, a 16' Triumph center console shore launch and on the port side, two Yamaha Waverunners can be electric winched on board.  A 15' RIB is crane hoisted up onto aft deck.  There are two gas tanks for the toys, 50 gallon each, to be located on aft deck and gravity filling.  Aft boarding platforms have flush pull out and drop down, dive ladders and each side.   There are fresh water showers planned for the aft area as well.

The twin 315 HP Yanmar diesels are electronic controlled.  Hydraulic steering, bow thruster, drop down front beaching ladder, electric anchor windlass and 2 Aluminum anchors.  There are two diesel 11 & 13k gen. sets and are in the engine room with sound shields as well as each hull has its own 18 gal electric/heat exchange hot water tank.

Engine rooms are well lighted and stand up head room and when toys removed, floors drop down to allow dive rooms.  The Racor dual fuel filter system is easily monitored and if needed can be switched with handle to allow new filter to be in use and the old one changed out later.  Engines have their own battery which cannot be used by other things and also is equipped with a ACR (automatic charging relay) that will allow it to charge other batteries after its own is topped off.  The engines are fresh water cooled as are the 2 generators.  Battery compartment under the helm has dry cell Optima 31 DP 12vdc with 1125 amps each and plenty of room to add more. The batteries are 24V located in anchor compartment for the windlass and 24V toilets. 

She is well underway and plans for everything above the water line are being made.  The slide show will be updated as we go and a lot of this will make since then and as the concept artists help put the ideas in sketches.     She is available for viewing 7 days a week and phone # is 7/24 and e-mails answered daily.

Getting started.

CPC formed when the opportunity came along for our team to acquire one of the best power catamaran hulls de signed to date.

Our first recreational model, the 3500 PH, will sit on a well-tried and tested design from the drawing table of Chris White. Chris started on this project in 2004 with Russell Hunt of Multihull Development, Inc. Production of, what eventually became known as the Buzzards 34 began in 2006. An accomplished multihull designer and world cruiser, Chris brought an overriding concern for offshore seakeeping, performance, and practicality. This is clearly seen in the resulting hull design. 

The design priorities included a smooth, flat ride, regardless of an afternoon chop kicking up, and a closeness to nature from both a shallow draft and a planet-friendly fuel economy. The Cape Power Cat 3500 PH has a distinctly “big boat” feel yet with the wide placement of her outboards, astonishing maneuverability, that with her manageable size guarantees easy handling.

Aquanaut Sport Catamaran

Project Aquanaut is a 60 feet Open-Style sport catamaran designed by Officina Armare with a purpose, in collaboration with U-Boat Worx. Aquanaut is an advanced multihull luxury speeder, combining a sporty yet elegant appearance and modern solutions, featuring a large deck space, open bar and Al Fresco dining areas located on aft deck and foredeck. Catamaran is equipped with dynamic inboard propulsion of 2x800 hp to offer an impressive speed potential of up to 45 kts and extreme stability at high speeds with the contribution of it's Deep-V hydrodynamic design.

Concept of the Aquanaut is heavily influenced by SUV's (Sport Utility Vehicles) in terms of stability, versatility and sense of exploration or adventure besides having plenty of storage for the toys such as surfboards, Seabobs and diving gear besides the Nemo submersible. Project T-45 (148ft) is a three-deck, deep-sea, full displacement, transatlantic, steel hull and aluminum superstructure luxury explorer motor yacht, built for private use and charter. The 499 gross tonne yacht has large volumes and the shipyard has gone to great lengths to ensure she is extremely stable and seaworthy with low levels of noise and vibration yet extremely fuel efficient.

The main section of the lower deck houses the four guest cabins, two of which are VIP cabins each with a double bed and private bathroom, with the other two as twin cabins each with a private bathroom. The entire forward section is reserved for crew use, comprising comfortable cabins, again each with a private bathroom, and a large crew mess with entertainment systems and sufficient space even for cruises requiring a long stay on board. Going up, you return to the main deck where outside there is a sofa/sunbathing area to aft with small tables and a bar, which has visual contact with the interior salon through a large sliding door that allows the interior and exterior spaces to be combined into one.

The fully glazed dining area is located forward of the salon and has a table, seating 12 diners. The Owner’s suite is also on the main deck, occupying the full width of the hull and enjoying abundant natural light from the large side windows. The space covers a very large area and consists of two separate dressing rooms forward, a large central bed facing aft, a large bathroom area with a bathtub, a separate shower, private WC and access to the suite from the starboard corridor.

Engine room and technical space has all the amenities for an explorer yacht. Caterpillar C-32 (2x1300 HP) engines provides stamina and non-stop adventure in remote areas within 4,000 nautical miles with maximum speed of 16 knots.

Alaskan Aluminum Power Catamarans specializes in the design and building of aluminum, hydrofoil assist, outboard powered catamarans; producing a welded aluminum boat specifically designed for operating in our rugged Alaskan environment. Each of our boats is influenced by a lifetime Alaskan resident who has spent most of his life both commercially fishing and sport fish guiding around Kodiak. They are designed by an accomplished naval architect specializing in hydrofoil assist catamarans, and each boat is built here in Alaska by a team well versed in fabricating within Alaska’s Commercial Fishing and Sport Boating industry.

The catamaran-style hull is well known for its stability, extra width, and fuel efficiency. However, the asymmetrical hulls on our boats recognize that the water inside a catamaran’s tunnel is different from the water displaced on the outboard sides of the boat when underway. This design helps to further improve on the catamaran idea; preparing for and mitigating chop entering the tunnel for a smoother ride at speed, as well as minimizing drag, increasing fuel efficiency, and range.

Our hydrofoil further improves that catamaran concept and acts like an airplane wing securely fixed between the hulls, providing several inches of lift to the entire boat on plane. Lifting the boat reduces the wetted surface, thereby reducing drag, increasing fuel efficiency, speed, and range. Lifting the boat also increases the distance between the water’s surface and tunnel, further softening and improving the ride in chop. Our hydrofoils are designed and placed to maximize lift at practical cruising speeds and anticipate a variety of load conditions.

Cabin and deck layout are easily customizable and easily tailored to suit your specific tastes and goals for your vessel. ACI Boats is thrilled to announce the official award of a $3 million dollar contract with American Samoa’s Departmant of Commerce for four “Super Alia” commercial fishing vessels. All four boats will be manufactured at ACI Boats’ facility in Port Townsend, WA. The vessels themselves will be 38’x14’ semi-displacement catamarans, designed by ACI Boats and Coastwise Marine Design. The first of the four vessels, to be completed in Fall/Winter 2022, will be used as a training platform for boat owners, captains, and deckhands. The following three boats, will be completed over the course of 18 months and will then be available for lease by the American Samoa Dept. of Commerce, intended to support the growth and safety of the local fishing fleet.

Shelter Island is a neighborhood of Point Loma in San Diego, California. It is actually not an island but is connected to the mainland by a narrow strip of land. The "island" is 1.2 miles (1.9 km) long and only a few hundred feet wide. A single street, Shelter Island Drive, runs the length of Shelter Island and also connects it to the mainland via a causeway lined with marine-related businesses. It was originally a sandbank in San Diego Bay, visible only at low tide. It was built up into dry land using material dredged from the bay for US Navy requirements in World War II. It has since been developed and contains hotels, restaurants, marinas, and public parkland.

Shelter Island is owned and controlled by the Port of San Diego, which also provides all police and other public services. Shelter Island businesses lease their location from the Port. Their Maritime Services Division is composed of three departments – Marine Operations, Maritime Trade Development and Maritime Properties and Facilities. Maritime Operations monitors all vessel activities at the Port’s cargo and cruise terminals, including several mooring areas and commercial piers around San Diego Bay. Take advantage of some of those anchoring destinations such as Glorieta Bay in Coronado, La Playa Cove in Point Loma and Mariner's Cove in Mission Bay.
