We had a delightful afternoon aboard the River Lady celebrating birthdays, a retirement and fathers day all wrapped into one celebration. The entire cruise was about 2 1/2 hours. Firstly, the staff on board are wonderful. We were greeted by the Captain as we boarded for our Historical Lunch Cruise. Once on board, the servers have everything down to a science on taking drinking orders as well as serving the meal and dessert. In addition to the historical narration, they Captain makes a special announcement acknowledging the celebrations on board. We were on the upper deck which offered a nice, open unobstructed view of the bay. Unfortunately, we were not able to hear much of the narration. There was a large party seated next to us who were very loud and constantly talking. We really enjoyed the lunch. There was a choice of 4 entrees (Chicken Marsala, Chicken Francese, Pesto Salmon and Penne Vodka). When making the reservation, I had to select each persons choice. Iced tea, water, coffee, and dessert (cheesecake - which delicious) along with gratuity are included in the reservation price. On board alcoholic beverages can be purchased.

I had no idea this was even a thing here in NJ. I mean, I've lived here 9 years, and found out about it, it just goes to show... you learn something new everyday. So hubby, Mini-Me and I chose the sunset cruise. We arrived at 5p, boarding is prompt at 5:30p, do not be late. Parking lot is small, to plan ahead and there is no parking charge after 5pm. When you buy your tickets, you have the opportunity to choose your meal entrée. They also offer a bar with beer, wine, soda and tea. They do not serve any alcohol until the boat pulls away from the dock. There are two seating area's, if you have trouble with stairs, choose the bottom deck, you can still see the sunset. The dinner cruise is really relaxing and informative, you do meet new people and I think that's really nice, if you are a people person. We truly enjoyed learning about Toms River history, the homes, the land, the people, it really a wonderful river cruise.

It was exciting to get on boat and it look really nice inside. We did the dinner and well the food not that great and not ride seemed too long for night tour..

My friend and I went on their luncheon cruise, and it was very nice. We cruised down to Barnegat Bay and back. The lunch was delicious, and we had a nice sunny day. We saw some beautiful and colorful sailboats, and some very nice houses on the banks. I would definitely recommend it for a nice outing!

The service was outstanding and the food was great. We are the Beach Bums who love to get out and have fun. This trip was wonderful and the River Lady TR made the night special. Thank you for making wonderful memories .

The boat ride is nice. Where ever they get there food from is really good food. You will enjoy your afternoon out on the water.

We had a lovely day today on the River Lady. The lunch was a great value. Our server Natalie was amazing. She made the day extra special. I highly recommend sitting upstairs, there are stairs with railings that felt manageable for my mom.

The boat was a nice ride. Salmon was a little over cooked however not to bad. The server was very sweet and attentive to our request and picture taking.

River Lady is also available for private parties, daytime or evening, Monday – Saturday. One private deck is provided during one of our cruises. The upper deck seats 50 with a dance floor or 60 without and the lower deck seats 75-90 with a dance floor.

The Caption greeted us as we arrived and welcomed us aboard. As soon as we were seated one of the staff approached our table and offered us a cold drink. The staff was friendly and went above and beyond to make our trip one to... remember. The food was exceptional and the interesting and educational facts and stories the Caption related to us as we cruised down the river were delightful. I am looking forward to our next trip and highly recommend this trip to everyone visiting or living in Toms River it is well worth the money and time. More

I was on staycation looking for something fun to do. I found the River Lady website and booked an 11 a.m. lunch cruise. It was great! Parking was close and easy to access. The food choices were wonderful and with 2 generous chicken breast pieces... on their chicken francese dish, I brought home leftovers for lunch the next day. I lived in Toms River for 2 years back in the late 70s but much of the historical tour information was new to me. I've already recommended this attraction to friends and would love to go back for a sunset cruise! While you can choose a tour without food, the $15 difference makes the 3 course meal an awesome deal, so I wouldn't think twice about booking a lunch or dinner cruise instead of just the sightseeing tour. My husband and I decided to celebrate our 37th wedding anniversary with a dinner cruise on the River Lady, and we were not disappointed! The captain was friendly and professional. We enjoyed his announcements about the different towns along the river and some history, but... it wasn’t too much. The food was above average as to be expected, but it was still served on real dishes, and it was hot. There was only cheesecake for dessert, which I did not like so it would’ve been nice if they had a brownie or some thing else as an option. And if they took just a little bit of time to garnish the plate, it would’ve looked a little fancier. The ship is clean but a little dated with “grandma’s old curtains.” The chairs are comfortable. Sitting downstairs in the summer was really the way to go; Especially when you don’t know what the weather is going to be like. We were able to go upstairs whenever we wanted, They played decent music at a good volume and the tables were not on top of one another but spaced out nicely downstairs. Most of the tables were tables for six but they sat just the two of us there, so it was good that we didn’t have to share a table for our romantic dinner And there are windows everywhere from which to see the view. There is a bar menu but it’s not mixed drinks, just beer and wine and White Claw and champagne - but all of that is extra even soda and iced tea is extra. The service was friendly and accommodating. It was just the right duration of 2 1/2 hours. And we got to see a gorgeous sunset over the water since it was July. I would highly recommend this, and I hope to try one of their day excursions as well in the future. More

This was our second luncheon tour onboard the River Lady this summer. We enjoy guided historical tours and what we found is that this one is perfect for our out of town guests and special occasions. In June we invited my elderly father for a... (belated) Father’s Day luncheon, then in September cousins visiting from Mexico came onboard with us. The atmosphere is great; food is very good (four entrees to choose from); price is very reasonable (especially for all that is included). The staff is very nice and accommodating; the boat is clean and well kept. We were in the main cabin both trips where there is adequate views of the river and both shores. We were invited to go outside on the deck and enjoy the cruise from that vantage point once lunch was finished. Our second cruise was a 3 hour extended cruise and because there were no guests on the top deck, we were able to enjoy at least half of the trip up there. Whether on the upper or lower deck you can hear the captain’s informative talk very well. He spoke all along the cruise tour at different intervals, but not so much that we couldn’t enjoy conversation with our guests. We will definitely be back again and hope to take the sunset dinner cruise the next time around. I think it would also be a great gift for a couple’s anniversary or some other special occasion. More

I work at a local Retirement Community, Crestwood Manor. This has been our 4th trip on the River Lady. We usually have 20 people with us and they always accomodate us and make us feel like we are special guests. We thoroughly enjoyed an afternoon luncheon cruise on the River Lady. Our meal and the service was excellent. We would not have know that is was not prepared on the boat. The caterer does an excellent job of cooking and keeping our meat hot. The... ride itself was awesome. Smooth river waters and a cool breeze. As the title suggests, my husband and I, along with another couple had a great time on the cruise. The cruise is pretty much extremely full at all times, but we found availability on the lower deck, which in my opinion is just as nice.... The captain greeted us on arrival and the servers were extremely polite. Dinner in my opinion wasn’t spectacular by any means, but it was edible. There was the choice of salmon with pesto sauce, plain salmon with no seasoning whatsoever, chicken franceses, and a pasta dish. I was pretty surprised they didn’t offer a meant selection to be honest, but it was fine by me. Cheesecake was offered for dessert and that was quite good. The DJ walked around to each table to get a list of music people wanted to hear and actually played request. Overall, I’d definitely recommend to anyone looking for a nice activity to do, but be warned. The age demographic is much older and appeasers to be of retirement age which showed in a lot of music selections. More

Our first experience with the River Lady left us wanting more...we are already planning to book again, this time with friends! The food was a pleasant surprise, both tasty and portioned enough to have leftovers to bring home. There was a large selection of drinks... offered at very good prices. The weather cooperated, presenting wonderful a sunset as we enjoyed the ride! As we sailed down river, the captain kept us up to date on the sights and history of Toms River. It was exciting to be presented with the river sights from the sailor's perspective. On board we met several wonderful and friendly people who shared our delight with the cruise. We booked our tickets on the upper deck and then I realized I needed another ticket ,but only the main deck was available. I figured I would need to beg to have our party of 5 together on the upper deck. I was pleasantly surprised... when our group was already placed together at an upper deck table ! Nothing but a great trip ! My only regret was we did not order the food ( too many food sensitive members in our group) because looking at what others were eating looked delicious! Needless to say we all ate a lot of chips ! I would highly recommend this cruise ! More

My daughter wanted to take her great grandfather on the River Lady for dinner. I was very skeptical about his getting on and off of the boat but it seemed appropriate since he was a lifelong navy vet of world war 2. Well, the captain... greated us and he, himself assisted in the boarding and seating of my grandfather. The table was planned for him in location. We had a wonderful view and amazing dinner! The sun set and the views thrilled him! They were so accommodating! He wanted to go outside when we neared docking and coincidentally, there were navy men aboard dining on the top deck. They saw his hat and one shook his hand and the rest saluted him. It was a purely magical experience. We lost my grandfather in November and I couldn’t have wished for a happier memory with him! We visited the River Lady for a company outing on an Historic Lunch Cruise. From the moment I called to book our trip to the moment we left the boat, the entire staff was amazing! The Captain himself even took a big group picture for... us at the end of the cruise. Everything was very organized with meal selections and everything went right on schedule. Perfectly seated on the Upper Deck right by the paddle wheels on a sunny, mild noon cruise. We were amazed that we had so much in common with our table-mates, which made for lively conversations throughout the afternoon. Another happy coincidence was seeing the start... of a sailboat race that started as we passed. then they passed us! Captain was knowledgeable and had interesting commentary on all aspects of the Tom's River coasts, both current and past history. Food was tasty and perfectly seasoned; the three of us ordered each of the three entrees, so we got to sample each. My salmon was awesome! We had a beautiful day on the River Lady yesterday. The weather was gorgeous and the views from the top level beautiful. The food was excellent as was the service. Very clean. We stay at table for 4 with our cousins celebrating my husband’s birthday.... We all enjoyed our meals which included salad,rolls, choice of Salmon, Chicken Francise, Chicken Marsala or Penna pasta with sauce. Meals came with roasted potatoes and fresh sautéed vegetables. Followed by coffee/ tea and delicious cheese cake. The day couldn’t have been better. Highly recommend! More

Make Lasting Memories On A River Cruise!

Four of us took the River Belle on Friday afternoon. We needed help with one of our family who has difficulty walking. The staff, especially Captain Tony, were exceptionally helpful and went over the top to make sure we got on the boat, and disembarked, successfully. The tour of 90 minutes was smooth, scenic and relaxing. Occasionally the Captain or other staff narrated some interesting facts about the vicinity. Altogether a wonderful and easy experience. Thank you!!!!

We enjoyed Father's Day Brunch on the River Belle and it was wonderful. The boat is meticulously cared for, the food was delicious (especially the stuffed pancakes), and the ride very enjoyable. The owners is also very pleasant to deal with. We will go again.

My family and I went on a Sunday brunch excursion. The staff were curteous and eager to engage with passengers. The boat was nostalgic and meticulous and the food fabulous. This will most definitely become a family tradition!

After the cruise we will have free time at Historic Smithville for a charming time to walk the cobblestone pathways and visit the unique shoppes and eateries.

The River Lady splendidly captures the ambiance of a 19th century Mississippi Paddleboat. The interior design of the lower deck is of the Victorian style. The deck is completely enclosed and is climate controlled for year-round comfort. The River Lady cruises the Toms River and Barnegat Bay of New Jersey. The riverbanks are surrounded by charming hills and beautifully manicured lawns and gardens. The homes along the river are uniquely designed, many dating back to the turn of the century. During this cruise your Captain will present a full historical commentary and lunch will be served. Following the cruise, we'll travel to Historic Smithville for free time to browse, shop, and have a bite to eat on your own. Historic Smithville started as a simple, one room, stagecoach stop. Today, when entering any of the 60 shoppes and restaurants you still sense the hometown, small business feel. Wander along the cobblestone walkways and over the foot bridges to discover a village that seems as if it were frozen in time. There is also a carousel, a train, and paddle boats for your enjoyment (not included in the cost of the trip) if you choose.

1. Chicken Francese - sauteed boneless breast of chicken in a rich sauce with a hint of lemon 2. Chicken Marsala - sauteed boneless breast of chicken in a marsala wine sauce 3. Filet of Salmon - sauteed, served with a lemon & garlic sauce with a hint of pesto 4. Penne Vodka - penne pasta with vodka cream sauce All meals include a salad, vegetable, potatoes, rolls, and dessert. Gluten-Free & Vegetarian options are available, please let a reservationist know if this is required at the time of booking. GF bread & dessert cannot be provided.
