Design and Engineering

From the renowned naval architects of Norman R Wright and Sons the hull is designed to be the most efficient and most beautiful semi-displacement hull on the water. 

Building on their experience we have made extensive use of Computational Fluid Dynamics CFD software to fine tune the hull design to ensure it is absolutely the most efficient it can be and have the best possible behavioural characteristics in all sea states.

Composite engineers have designed the optimum strength/weight ratio of the structure, so we retain the traditional robust construction you would expect from Fleming – but it is achieved with less weight and is all verified by DNV.

The hull design and engineering will result in the best fuel economy and range of any semi displacement boat in the world. 

The absolute highest specification of equipment available - as standard – installed the Fleming way, with redundancy and access for maintenance in mind.

Two versions

Open air – for those who prefer the wind in their hair, the traditional style Fleming open flybridge.

Enclosed – The pilothouse is moved to the upper deck where it is fully enclosed and still fully outfitted like a Fleming pilothouse should be. Down below more space is opened up for flexible dining and entertaining.

Style 

Exterior - The lines and the look are unmistakably classic Fleming. Furthermore the exterior details have been refined and simplified to create a cleaner look with flush and hidden hardware throughout.

Interior – Various options from traditional to contemporary, but always elegant, warm, comfortable and practical. Double glazing as standard throughout keeps you warm in winter and cool in summer.

Deck Spaces

Foredeck – Hydraulic and electric Maxwell windlasses, Ultra anchors and s/s chain. Huge storage lockers for all shapes and sizes of gear. Fold away seating alcove.

Flybridge deck – Everything you need for cruising, entertaining and relaxing as well as space for a 17 foot tender that can be launched on either port or stbd sides via the 2000lb crane.

Aft deck – Raised and sheltered seating and dining for 10 with amenities you need and sheltered gul-wing door access to engine room and crew’s quarters below.

Cockpit – Easy access, ample storage for all the dive gear and fishing equipment you may need. Warping winches to help take the load off

Swim platform – expansive enough for all uses and hydraulic lowering option makes it easy for additional tender or PWC storage and launching. 

Easy boarding – Multiple side boarding gates make accessibility from fixed or floating docks easy and safe for all.

Along with their team of naval architects and engineers, Fleming has been hard at work for the last 3 years creating a completely new design, the Fleming 85. The aim for this new model was simply to build the finest ocean going pilothouse motor-yacht in every respect. Maintaining the classic Fleming look, this new model is available in two distinct versions– an open flybridge, and a new enclosed flybridge design. With the enclosed flybridge option, the pilothouse is moved to the enclosed upper deck, giving more space below for flexible galley layouts. With true ocean crossing range, superb hull fuel efficiency, and speeds of up to 25 knots– this is the ultimate cruising yacht.

Fleming 85 first look: This globetrotting flagship is a mini tri-deck superyacht

Fleming has released computer renderings of its all-new flagship, the Fleming 85, which boasts a transatlantic cruising range.

The first Fleming to be offered with the option of a fully enclosed flybridge , it turns this substantial long-range cruising yacht into a mini tri-deck superyacht .

As part of the changes, the standard raised bridge gets pushed up to the top deck and a large open plan galley and dining area fill the space it normally occupies forward on the main deck.

Building on the success of the current Fleming 78 , over 30 of which have been built, the new 85 was designed by Fleming regular Norman R Wright in Australia.

The standard flybridge version has the same relatively low profile and centre of gravity that makes this rugged two-deck trawler such a sea-kindly cruiser, as well as the covered side-decks, Portuguese bridge and signature faux planking on the hull.

However, this new design elevates the formula in a couple of key respects. While the 78 can only provide three ensuite guest cabins, the new Fleming 85 can be configured with four cabins and three bathrooms, plus an additional crew galley and mess. The crew area is handily sited aft of the engine-room.

Flemings are conceived for serious cruising and billed as ocean capable so it’s no surprise to see that the Fleming 85 has a Cat A RCD rating.

There’s a collision bulkhead forward of the thruster tunnel, a substantial keel to protect running gear, and all the tanks are positioned amidships to minimise potential trim issues.

Moreover, the Fleming 85’s semi-displacement hull is claimed to be significantly more efficient than the old 78’s, which is why its fuel capacity of 12,000 litres is only 750 litres more than the 78’s.

Although smaller engines can be specified, the recommended machinery is twin 1,550hp V12 MANs, which will deliver a top speed of around 21 knots.

At an 8-knot chug, and allowing for a 20% reserve, Fleming quotes a whopping range of 4,500nm. At 10 knots that drops to a still impressive 2,200nm.

Tender storage is on the flybridge, although the 85 will have the option of a hydraulic hi-lo platform.

The maximum size of tender it can carry up top is likely to be around 17ft (5.20m). Prices haven’t yet been revealed but are thought to start north of $7million excluding tax.

“I’ve always been a big fan of Flemings,” said MBY editor Hugo Andreae. “They just seem so well engineered for dependable cruising comfort.

“However, given that a low centre of gravity has always been a key part of that design philosophy, it will be interesting to see how this tallies with a taller tri-deck design.”

Two important events saw the Mangusta Maxi Open by the prominent Italian builder Overmarine again protagonist on the nautical scene: Marine Max exclusive partner for the United States attended the Palm Beach Boat Show , running from March 22 to 25 with the spectacular motor yacht Mangusta 92 and the Mangusta 130 superyacht on display. Burevestnik Group, on the other hand, was the star of the Moscow International Boat Show , taking place from March 20 to 25 exhibiting the scale models of the luxury yacht Mangusta Oceano 148, the superyacht Mangusta 92, the Mangusta 165 as well as Mangusta 130 yachts.
