What are the Cheapest Yacht Clubs?

The cheapest yacht clubs charge just under $1,000 per year for membership. While this does give you access to different types of experiences, you may be disappointed by the overall amenities.

Some yacht clubs are known for their extravagant country club styles that help you to embrace a particular lifestyle. They include Olympic-sized swimming pools, state-of-the-art tennis courts, and fine dining.

Everything has a beautiful waterfront view. It can feel like you are in the middle of an idyllic paradise without ever even having to leave the shore. If this is what you can gain from the most expensive yacht clubs, you should set your expectations much lower for the cheaper yacht clubs.

The cheaper yacht clubs lack the community aspect of these exclusive options. They feature dry slips and the occasional party, but not much more.

Some of them may have the feel of a county park with some picnic benches, outdoor grills, and a moderately sized swimming pool. Expect a much more casual atmosphere when you choose to go with a cheaper yacht club.

It is even possible that they are simply “paper yacht clubs” that do not even maintain a physical building of their own.

How Much Do the Most Expensive Yacht Clubs Cost to Join?

The most expensive yacht clubs can vary a great deal in price. Most of them will cost between $3,000 and $4,000 per year. However, you can certainly find more exclusive clubs that will cost above and beyond this.

Keep in mind that these more expensive clubs generally are not open to the public. They are offered by invitation only and you must have a member sponsor you to be considered for entrance.

When you are paying for a more expensive yacht club, you should make sure that you are really going to get your money’s worth. These expensive clubs promote a certain type of elegant lifestyle.

Make sure that you are planning to take advantage of all the amenities available from one of these clubs before you sink too much money into the membership fees. The social aspect of these expensive yacht clubs is extremely important.

If you plan to simply rent a boat from time to time, you might be able to go with a cheaper yacht club.

What Is Generally Included in the Membership Fee for Yacht Clubs?

Have you been wondering why you should join a yacht club? Many potential members want to know what they can expect from their membership fees before they commit to a year-long contract. There are many advantages to signing up for a membership with a well-known yacht club.

Amenities and Activities

First and foremost, you get access to activities and cruises planned by board members. These might be various sailing activities, dinners, get-togethers, tennis matches, or other events that take up a lazy Sunday afternoon.

You also gain access to any amenities that surround the yacht club’s marina. For many programs, this means a fitness center, pool, and tennis courts. Several locations also offer fine dining, meeting rooms, and more.

It is like a private oasis where you can get away from the hustle and bustle of the regular world. Time moves slowly when you’re enjoying the amenities here.

Many yacht clubs have programs that introduce children (and adults!) to sailing. Take classes to learn more about improving your technique, sailing safety, and other important aspects of life on the open water.

Access to the Fleet

The main reason why most people join yacht clubs is to be able to rent out boats instead of purchasing their own. Joining a yacht club may give you access to an entire fleet of yachts that can be reserved for a day or weeks at a time. Some yacht clubs allow you to rent boats for up to ten days at a time.

Others do not allow you to rent out ships. They are primarily geared toward individuals who already own a yacht or will own a yacht in the future. Make sure you know the difference in advance.

coral reef yacht club membership fee

Are There any Additional Costs Besides the Membership Fees?

Unfortunately, the membership fees are not the only cost associated with joining a yacht club. Most of the clubs in the United States also have a one-time initial fee that tends to cost thousands of dollars. Many will range from $1,500 to $5,000 depending on the location and the exclusivity of the yacht club.

This one-time fee should be the only additional money you pay except for fuel. Most yacht clubs do not cover the cost of the fuel used in the ship during your rental if renting is an option. Be prepared for what this could cost you.

If you cause damage to the ship, you can also expect some out-of-pocket costs. Insurance should cover the damage, but you will likely be asked to cover the cost of the deductible.

Be sure to inquire about how much you may be on the hook for before you sign up for any particular yacht club. Accidents can happen, even to the most experienced sailors. Make sure that you can afford the mishap in advance.

Is a Yacht Club Membership Right for You?

Understanding what the real cost of a yacht club membership is can be the first step toward determining if this is right for you. Many people love the luxuries available through the more expensive yacht clubs, but they may not be able to afford it. Consider what is most important in a club to you before deciding to sign on the dotted line for an annual membership.

Ducked in this evening for a Celebration of Life Ceremony for a fine and generous Gentleman of fine repute by the name of Robert "Bob" Detchon. Rest in Peace, Bob. I have visited this well run operation many, many times. I am 53 years old and one of my very longtime friends whom I don't get to see enough kept his sailboat here for many, many moons. Oh the trips we took to Key Biscayne or Sundays on the Bay. Smells like teen spirit. The name of the boat was "Confusion." I won't name him because I don't have permission. I have not been inside the gates since well before the Y2K ruckus and have never seen the big, sturdy, epic, new building that is on the right side, the one with the rooftop lounge where this event was held. Kudos to management / ownership on maintaining the charm and personality of the place and finding the ideal spot to place needed infrastructure expansion. Excellent service. Cabeza OUT!

We were fortunate to be invited to CRYC after helping out with Race Committee for an event in Coconut Grove. We spent some time in the bar and then sat in the Dining Room and were treated wonderfully by the staff. What an exquisite view and exemplary service. We had almost all of your menu between appetizers, main course, and deserts where we all shared as well. The fish and chips were wonderful. Conch fritters incredible. Loved the New York Strip and the rib appetizer. We were treated to house made ice cream with brandy I think and a cookie. WOW! Can't wait to come back!

Joined some friends for another friends bday. Great crowd of really nice people. Very clean and organised. The food was good and the staff was absolutely amazing. CRYC is one of the only places I've seen that's fully staffed post Covid. I'm assuming this is because they treat and pay their staff well. The staff was exceptional. They were extremely polite and attentive to everyone. Very nice and relaxed evening.

I absolutely love Coral Reef Yacht Club. I've been going there since I was a kid and my husband and I incorporated it into our wedding events. The atmosphere is always nice, the view is unbelievable, the food is great - there really is nothing bad I can say about it. I also love the annual Christmas events, where Santa arrives on a boat, takes pictures with the kids, and gives them gifts, and the kids decorate gingerbread houses while they wait to see Santa. Halloween on the docks also is a great event.

Top of the line. We spent the day at the club as a guest. I was really impressed with the service and facilities. The Fourth of July celebrations at the club were fantastic. The fireworks show was great too. I would recommend checking out the club if you are interested in a family friendly yacht club.

A Miami Classic! While visiting Miami, a friend (member) took us for dinner at the Yardarm Bar. Met several very friendly locals. Some 3rd and 4th generation Miami families. Apparently unusual for Miami. Started the evening with a signature rum punch and conch chowder with a dash of sherry. Both were excellent! Our entree of grouper was fresh and very tasty. Finished of with a unique but simple spiced ice cream dish called "brandy ice". We were content to say the least. Fortunately it was a short walk past the palm tree lined pool, out the dock and onto the boat for moonlight cruise. These people have it made! Thanks again CRYC for the experience!

How Much Does an Ocean Reef Club Membership Cost?

Certified CFA

The Ocean Reef Club is known for its “unique way of life.” The magic behind this quote lies in how it captures the essence of what makes living at ORC so great. With beautiful weather, and friendly staff members and residents alike there’s no doubt that you’ll feel really welcome when joining them.

The oceanfront condos, villas, and family residences at the Ocean Reef Club are a slice of paradise. The exclusive community is located in the Florida Keys and offers amenities such as security cameras for safety along with gated entrances to ensure your peace of mind while you enjoy this beautiful escape from reality.

When first formed, in 1948, the private club community in Key Largo originally met to discuss fishing grounds, but over time they added various activities such as yachting and tennis. Over the years it has become more than just a place for  fishermen . Today’s visitors can participate in swimming lessons or shop onsite while their ship awaits them at an offsite location nearby.

How much does an Ocean Reef Club membership cost?

The cost of an Ocean Reef Club membership can start from $11,000 up to more than $200,000 just for the one-time entry fee, plus annual dues that range from $3,300 to $8,000 .

According to the club’s official website page, you can choose from two types of membership: legacy membership and social, equity club membership. No matter what type of membership you are going for, you have to respect all the club’s policies, regulations, and rules. All the members have to abide by these conditions and requirements.

In order to join the club, you have to pay an initiation fee, and after that, the cost will depend on the type of your membership. In the table below you will find the initiation fee and annual expenses.

Note: These are just some estimates gathered from the Internet. In order to get an exact price, it is recommended to contact the club directly.

According to the PassportMiami website, the prices for residential houses are anywhere between $1,000,0000 and $16,000,000, while townhouses and condominiums are less expensive with prices ranging from  $450,000 to $5,000,000. The initiation fee for the social membership starts at about $12,000 , while equity owners of property should budget around $220,000.

Also, according to a NY Post from 2010, if you want to buy a charter equity membership, as a potential resident you must be sponsored by two current members and pay for their membership around $200,000 .

Types of Ocean Reef Club memberships

The children and grandchildren of the Equity members can get this type of membership.

For people who are not residents of Miami-Dade or Monroe counties, but still want to join the club the social membership is a great chance. In this situation the wannabe member has to be sponsored by two club members and one of them must be an equity member. To become a local social member, you must be a resident of Miami-Dade or Monroe County. Also, you must be sponsored by two equity members, with one being a member of the South Florida membership committee.

You might also like our articles about the cost of membership at the Valhalla Golf Club, Muirfield Golf Club, or Carefree Boat Club.

If you want to become an equity member you have to own property in the Ocean Reef Club or Anglers Clun community. Also, you have to be sponsored by two equity members and the application must be approved before the property is closed. If the application is approved after that, the candidate has to wait another five years to apply again for this type of membership.

Ocean Reef Club World-Class Amenities

Ocean Reef Club

Ocean Reef Club offers an impressive array of world-class amenities that define luxury living and recreation. Golf enthusiasts can tee off on not one, but two championship 18-hole golf courses, complemented by a driving range, golf carts, and expert instruction. For those drawn to the water, the club’s 175-slip marina opens doors to fishing, diving, and snorkeling adventures.

This is more like a town with its own private airport, with two runways ensuring seamless, direct flights to your destination, fire department, medical center, church, town hall, school, gas station, restaurants, cultural center, and many more.

The club has to offer activities for all family members, no matter their age. For example, children can take part in activities like a game room or nature center.

The equity members have more privileges, including airport privileges, access to the al club’s amenities, a marine with more than 175 slips, beach access, or tennis court access.

What are the extra costs?

Equity members should budget around $700 for the food and beverages fees.

In order to participate in the majority of the club’s activities, you have to pay an extra fee.

While optional, the cost for a marina slip is said to be almost $550,000 . According to a Yachting Magazine article, the price for a 90-foot yacht slip is $580,000 .

Important things to consider

This club was called one of the most secure communities in the United States by the U.S. Secret Service.

All the members have to respect a strict cell phone and dress code policy inside the club. You better check their official website for more details regarding these rules.

Social members have the opportunity to upgrade to equity membership within five years after they buy a property in the club community. In this is the case, their initiation fee is also upgraded.

The club has approximately 1,200 legacy members, 500 social and local members, and around 1,800 equity members who have property within the club, including condominiums and docks.

Advantages of Membership

There are two private club membership opportunities at Ocean Reef Club.

Equity Membership

The purchaser of a property, including a dock, in the Ocean Reef Club or Anglers Club communities must become an Equity Member in order to use the Club’s facilities. Three Equity Members must sponsor a candidate for this category of Club membership and their membership must be approved prior to closing on their property, otherwise the property owner cannot re-apply for Equity membership for five years. Both Equity and non-property-owning Members and their guests are privileged to enjoy all the Club’s amenities—from Buccaneer Island’s swim lagoon and pools to the delightful selection of restaurants and shops. And everyone enjoys the community’s atmosphere of ease, the sense of being among friends in the place where they truly belong.

Restaurant-Yacht Chaika

Ratings and reviews, location and contact.

Pleasantly surprised, service is good so is the food. Great selection of Fusion food, a mixture of Italian, Japanese, European, Asian etc. A pleasantly nice dining experience, highly recommended, a must try!

Thank you for your feedback and invite you to have lunch or dinner again aboard the ship in an atmosphere of high standards of yacht hospitality.

everything was perfect - the food, the service, the desserts were the best, nice atmosphere and the location - magical

Best food, best view in Moscow. absolutely faultless from arrival to finish. Best risotto i had for many years absolutely perfectly cooked. The view on Ukrainian hotel and the white house by night is amazing

Had to wait for the food for 1.5 hours and then another 20 minutes for the check. Finally called for the manager and he offered... a 10% discount as a compensation. Simply pathetic! The food is mediocre at best. Not bad per se, but one... would expect something better considering the prices. There are many places to eat in area that are much better. Avoid this one at all costs. Food is very expensive, very pretentious, doesn't worth that money. Portions are very small. We ordered ravioli and there were 4! Four raviolis! For almost 15 euros. Then we asked to bring us dessert menu but nothing, they didn't even bothered, so we payed and left... without dessert. Very poor service for that price. More

This is a very good restaurant. The food is really good, maybe the best in Moscow. The service is also good. The view from the restaurant is great. The prices are very high.

I often visit this restaurant and must say it’s one of the best in Moscow in terms of quality and service. Staff really try hard to make sure that you are happy and satisfied. Customer service is a huge problem in Moscow but Chaika sets... a great example for others in the industry! Food is delicious and the menu has lots of options for everyone! Atmosphere is great and view is beautiful on the embankment. Special thanks to German & Oleg! More

Thank you for your feedback! Again aboard the yacht restaurant "Chaika" in accordance with the high standards of yacht hospitality.

Highly recommended, great location in the city center of Moscow with a superb atmosphere. Too many menu choices, though all delicious!

Thx a lot for your review! We are looking forward to see you in our restaurants.

Visited this lovely restaurant with a friend of mine. It was relaxingly warm August evening - so the place on the river seemed like a good idea. We came quite early and the restaurant was not full. The hostesses kindly offered several places to sit... and we chose to sit on the sofas. We had some wine, which was good. We struggled a bit when deciding about the food as few options (scallops) were not available. Fish on ice on display did not look very fresh. To be honest it was an unusually hot August and it is probably understandable that some see food options were not available. However, we did manage to order something and sat waiting and looking onto the river. My long-legged friend struggled sitting at the low sofa and the manager noticed that, offering as a very good, proper table beside the open window. It was nice touch and I was very pleased by their polite observations and immediate reaction to solve the problem. Food was quite good and presentation was perfect. Perhaps I can something about the food, but 1 visit is not enough to criticize or make a definitive opinion. Overall, quality place, which of course, does not come cheap. I would recommend this restaurant without hesitation. More

I've been here several times during two business trip in Moscow. The overall quality for both service and food is absolutely top-notch, plus the location is very unique.

Good location. Nice views. Good choice of food and drinks. European and Asian menu. Nice service. Pricey enough.

Moscow still floating options for utility fee relief

Instituting payment program is leading candidate to help those who have fallen behind on their bills.

The city of Moscow has kicked around ideas in recent weeks to provide utility fee relief to residents and business owners who have fallen behind on their bills because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Instituting a payment program that allows people to catch up on their utility bills is the leading option so far.

“The ability to do a payment program might be the best bet at this point,” City Supervisor Gary Riedner said Monday night at a Zoom-formatted virtual Moscow City Council meeting.

Utilities will not be shut off and no late fees will be assessed through the duration of the city’s and state’s isolation orders.

Riedner said typically, if an individual gets behind on a utility bill, the city’s finance department tries to get the person caught up on a three-month payment program, which works most of the time.

He said city staff is looking at an “extended program” that would allow someone adversely affected by the coronavirus crisis to pay their bills over a certain amount of time.

“That’s by far the most popular program across the nation — a deferment and then a catch-up period,” Riedner said.

He noted the city of Sequim, Wash., instituted a program that forgives half the base rate for water and sewer fees for those affected financially by the coronavirus. Residents of the city must fill out an application that asks monthly income and other questions to determine if the resident qualifies for utility fee relief.

He said the city receives about $1.4 million a month in utility fees, which goes directly to city operations and capital improvements.

“Any reduction of those fees will have a ripple effect through, typically, our capital improvement program,” Riedner said.

He said the city is still considering setting up an account that can accept donations, but determining how to administer those funds fairly remains an obstacle the city has not figured out.

Riedner said city staff is also looking at ways it could provide utility fee relief specifically to businesses directly impacted by the mayor’s or governor’s orders to shut down.

He noted about 2,700 accounts of residents and business owners billed for March did not receive a volume on their water bill because of a technical mistake. So, they will receive a March and April volume on their next bill.

In other business, the city council:

  • Approved a master bond ordinance and a supplemental bond ordinance to issue revenue bonds. The city received $4.3 million in funding from the Idaho Department of Environmental Quality’s Revolving Loan Fund for water system improvements, including drilling Well 10 and the construction of three booster stations. That phase of the project is complete and the city needs to convert the construction loan to revenue bonds in accordance with the DEQ loan offer. The revenue bonds will carry a term of 20 years and an annual interest rate of 2.25 percent, which will be repaid with water utility revenues.
  • Accepted the $88,714 low bid from Germer Construction, Inc. of Moscow and authorized staff approval of construction change orders in an amount not to exceed 10 percent of the contract amount for preparing the area for the North Main Street beautification project. The project, which will be completed this year, includes installing pedestrian ramps, curb extensions, electric and water service and storm drainage, and replaces non-compliant sidewalks and driveway approaches. A concrete planter to shield pedestrians from vehicles also will be constructed. The metal three-dimensional public art piece and other amenities at the site — which is at C and Main streets — will be completed at a later date.
  • Accepted the $309,970.10 low bid for the Almon Street reconstruction project from Motley-Motley Inc. of Pullman and authorized staff approval of construction change orders in an amount not to exceed 10 percent of the contract amount. The project, which will be completed this year, includes the reconstruction of Almon Street from Third to A streets and First Street from Almon to Jackson streets. The Moscow Urban Renewal Agency is contributing $150,000 to the project.
  • Approved the final plat and final planned unit development, and development and monumentation agreements with Blum Enterprises – 2, LLC for the Indian Hills East Addition.
  • Set Aug. 3, 2020, as the public hearing date for the city’s fiscal 2021 budget.
  • Did not address the protest prior to Monday night’s meeting (see related story).
