Keisha & Kourtney Jackson
This mother and daughter duo were making music together for over a decade before officially branding themselves as the Ladies of Soul (circa 2018). Kourtney’s sweet and sultry voice is the perfect complement to Keisha’s gutsy grit as they coast through a catalogue of classic ‘60s and ‘70s Soul.
The Ladies do not shy away from traditionally male-led selections, making soul-stirring pieces like “I Can’t Get Next to You“ and “Work to Do“ staples in their set.

All bases are covered…concerts, corporate events, and private parties.
Keisha began singing professionally at age 15 and went on to record 2 albums with Sony Records. Keisha has performed on recordings with Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston, Kaiser Chiefs, Erasure, and toured with rap music icons Outkast (20+), Erykah Badu (11), and George Clinton.
By age 13, Kourtney was singing background for her mother, and within a year she was recording background vocals for Janelle Monáe. This led to opportunities including working with Atlanta’s Dungeon Family, performing local radio jingles, and flowing through the live music scene as lead vocalist for several bands. Kourtney is a respected singer, published songwriter and looks forward to continuing to carve out a place for herself in the music industry.
“We’re In The Band”
Keisha joined national touring band Yacht Rock Revue in 2014, and a couple of years later Kourtney came aboard. Shimmer and shine and everything fine? “The incredible DNA-fueled blend of Keisha and Kourtney’s voices has taken our show to another level. When you already have perfect chemistry among 7 dudes, adding a couple ladies to the mix could have been a risky move. But not with these two!” (Nicholas Niespodziani, Yacht Rock Revue)

Embark on a nostalgic voyage through the shimmering seas of music with Yacht Rock Revue, the ultimate purveyors of the smooth, yacht rock sound and who many reverently consider the godfathers of Yacht Rock. Hailing from Atlanta, GA this sensational band has captivated audiences worldwide with their immaculate renditions of classic hits from the late '70s and early '80s.
Inspired by the golden era of soft rock, Yacht Rock Revue has mastered the art of recreating the breezy and laid-back tunes that defined a generation. From the sun-kissed melodies of Steely Dan and Michael McDonald to the velvety harmonies of Hall & Oates, their repertoire spans an ocean of beloved hits that evoke memories of palm trees, ocean breezes, and carefree summers.
Since their formation in 2007, Yacht Rock Revue has amassed a devoted following, drawing fans from all walks of life to their extraordinary live performances. Their attention to detail and devotion to authenticity are unrivaled, transporting audiences to a time when yacht parties and smooth sailing were the order of the day.
But Yacht Rock Revue isn't just a tribute band; they are musical alchemists, seamlessly blending their own unique style with the iconic yacht rock vibe. Their original compositions are a modern ode to the genre, capturing the essence of those bygone days while infusing it with a fresh and invigorating twist. Their first original record, titled Hot Dads In Tight Jeans, showcases the bands complete range of skills that simultaneously transports the listener to a more modern era. While “Step,” the record’s first single, is a peppy number replete with falsetto and bumping bass, the rest of the album is more akin to Phoenix or Air, the hip bands that adapted Yacht for a younger audience.
Beyond the stage, Yacht Rock Revue's infectious energy extends to their fans, creating a community that celebrates the joy of music and the timeless appeal of yacht rock. Their concerts are not just shows; they're immersive experiences that leave audiences craving more.
Whether you're a longtime lover of the yacht rock era or a newcomer to its smooth grooves, Yacht Rock Revue promises an unforgettable journey across the azure waters of musical history. So grab your captain's hat and set sail with Yacht Rock Revue for a melodic adventure like no other.

Things To Do
Yacht rock revue sets steady course for musical treasures.
You’d think that people would’ve had enough of silly love songs. I looked around the Leader Bank Pavilion and I saw it wasn’t so.
On Thursday night, on the huge Pavilion stage, Yacht Rock Revue sold nostalgia, escapism, the notion that musical chops matter, and a post-modernist take on popular music. But mostly, like Paul McCartney before them, the aviator-sporting middle aged guys in YRR sold silly love songs. Or at least re-sold them.
An Atlanta-born tribute to ’70s AM Gold and ’80s Top 40, YRR went mainstream on the back of years of touring – the band plays the Cape Cod Melody Tent Wednesday and Thursday before returning to the Pavilion on Friday. Too good to remain purely a cover band, YRR made an album of originals in 2020 – the LP, “Hot Dads in Tight Jeans,” is a tasty cocktail of soft rock, indie pop, sparkling disco and glitchy electronica. The Revue’s covers and originals both work because they take the music (if not themselves) seriously.
And yes, you can take Looking Glass’s “Brandy (You’re a Fine Girl)” seriously.
When the Beatles went from the heartfelt “Love Me Do” to the sardonic “Glass Onion,” they lost some people. Those people – alienated by the weirdness and self-indulgence of late ’60s and early ’70s – found a home in the old-school songcraft and sincerity of yacht rock’s love songs. Here’s where Yacht Rock Revue comes in.
Live, the band threads an almost impossible gap. The love songs are sweet, the rock songs are rocking, the cheek is packed with tongue, and yet the catalog is done reverently not ironically. Yacht rock is deemed a guilty pleasure, but it is enjoyed earnestly. (Can anything actually be enjoyed ironically? I doubt it.)
So Yacht Rock delivers earnest infatuation (Jackson Browne’s “Somebody’s Baby”), earnest romance (Rupert Holmes’ “Escape”), and earnest longing (the aforementioned Brandy). The songs connect because they are all little masterpieces of pop. And because the band is smoking hot.
The five of the members who took lead vocals are all great – Kourtney Jackson can do Sade with the required smooth gloss and YRR founder Nick Niespodziani’s talent for channeling so many (Kenny Loggins, Michael McDonald, even David Lee Roth) is endlessly impressive. Guitar ace and Berklee grad Mark Dannells can riff on Toto and rearrange Steely Dan leads. The whole band needs to be excellent because, beyond sincere lyrics, yacht rock depends on players having profound skills.
When YRR does Toto’s “Rosanna,” Niespodziani needs to sell the impassioned vocals, the “I didn’t know that a girl like you could make me feel so sad.” But equally importantly, the band needs to fill out an epic tune that dips into jazz, funk, blues, heavy metal and prog rock. YRR can do this, plus do the bass line in “Smooth Operator,” the harmonies of “Dancing Queen,” and complex chords of “Peg.”
YRR is a great time. It’s a time for dressing up in captain’s hats, booging to the Doobie Brothers, getting sloppy and silly, even when – especially when – the silliness extends to those cheesy-but-honest love songs.

Embark on a journey down memory lane through radiant musical waters with Yacht Rock Revue. Today, these masters of smooth grooves unveil their live album, Between the Moon and New York City.
The new 15-track collection is the audio companion of the band's recent PBS Special that graced the airwaves on November 24, 2023. Captured on the Rooftop at Pier 17 in New York City on July 7, 2023, this album transports audiences to the golden era of the ‘70s and ‘80s. Offering a reprieve from the daily hustle, it guides listeners on a musical odyssey through timeless hits.
Reminiscing on the concert special, lead vocalist Nicholas Niespodziani praised, “The vibe was epic that night, and I'm proud (while totally unsurprised) that our performance was as breathtaking as the setting. I can't wait to be flipping through the channels in a random hotel room and come across myself crushing some Doobies in front of the Brooklyn Bridge.”
The powerhouse 10-piece band — Nicholas Niespodziani (Vocals, Guitars, Keyboards, Percussion), Peter Olson (Vocals, Guitars, Keyboards, Percussion), Greg Lee (Bass, Vocals), Mark Dannells (Guitars, Vocals), Mark Bencuya (Keyboards, Vocals), David B. Freeman (Saxophones, Keyboards, Flute, Piccolo, Percussion, Vocals), Keisha Jackson (Vocals, Percussion), Kourtney Jackson (Vocals, Percussion), Jason Nackers (Drums), Ganesh Giri Jaya (Drums) — is set to tour through May, with additional dates to be announced soon.
Sarah Bahr of The New York Times reported on her first-hand account of the free-flowing vibe the band injects into an audience, witnessing fans that “danced for two hours to tunes from the 1970s and '80s by Yacht Rock Revue.” Entertainment Weekly noted that “the shows tend to be unabashedly joyous affairs” while Joseph Hudak of Rolling Stone deemed them the “world's premier soft-rock party band.”

The Woodstock Whisperer/Jim Shelley
Northern california folk-rock festival, may 23 – 25, 1969.
1969 Festival #7
This blog entry is on the second of the three 1969 rock festivals held on Memorial Day weekend. The first piece was on the Aquarian Family Festival in Santa Clara, California.
This entry is on its rival a half-mile away: the Northern California Folk-Rock Festival. The Aquarian was a two-day free event. The Northern California Folk-Rock Festival was a three-day ticketed event.
1968 debacle
The first Northern California Folk-Rock Festival had happened in 1968 and had issues. Some of the bands advertised weren’t actually booked and PCP sent hundreds of attendees to the local emergency room. “Never again” was the immediate reaction by local law enforcement, but a year later the second (and last) NCFRF came off.
How? According to the Rock Prosopography site : After the drug-addled debacle of the previous year, it was surprising that there was an encore. Supposedly the promoters managed to rent the Fairgrounds on false pretenses, and then started advertising Jimi Hendrix and Led Zeppelin, even though they had neither under contract. The festival ended up occurring, and was well attended, but the city and county made sure there wasn’t any further events.
1969 happens
The Northern California Folk Rock Festival, organized by Bob Blodgett, was held at the Santa Clara County Fairgrounds. It had a stellar line-up. I’ve highlighted those who would perform at Woodstock in August.
Jimi Hendrix, now a super-star was the main attraction. It is a portion of his “Red House” performance that is heard at the top of this entry and the full 11-minutes in the YouTube selection below.
A great lineup by any measure
No recording/no film
Unlike Woodstock, but exactly like the more than two dozen other major festivals in 1969, the Northern California Folk-Rock Festival was not filmed nor recorded. The overpiece song at the top of this entry is Sweet Linda Divine from her solo album. Sadly most of us have not heard of Linda Tillery, but from the powerful performance we hear a piece of, we should have. And I’m sure the same can be said of many of the other performers from this sadly “unknown” festival.
The Concierge Photo dot com site has several photos of the event. Check them out.

Thanks for these comments and details on a not-so-well known festival, but raw and great at $4 a ticket!
Are you sure tickets were $4.00? That was the price for the previous year’s concert (May 1968) as shown on the poster. The poster for 1969 has no ticket price that I can see. However, due to the “high” ticket prices, an alternative festival was held nearby on the grounds of San Jose State and it was called the Aquarian Family Festival. It was free and quite a range of things happened there. I went to all three things – the freebie and the two at the Fairgrounds. So, I am thinking the tickets were $8-10.00, thus the outrage.
I was also at both concerts and swear that Bob Dylan appeared at the free concert around 3:00AM. Perhaps it was just a great imitator as I have never found confirmation. I also noticed that Chuck Berry is not highlighted above but I remember him singing My Ding-a-Ling there.
The “free concert “ was put together by Bill Graham. Jimmu Hendrix flew in on Graham’s helicopter,The timing was well executed, It’s negative economic effect on the Folk Rock Festival was considerable . I was selling posters at the festival, it was perfect for a high school job
