Among historic monuments in Luxembourg, the Holy Ghost Monastery was founded in 1234 on the square bearing the same name.

As the third ring was built in the 14th century, the plateau was linked to the protected part of the city.

Its military and strategic location was recognized during the first Spanish domination, but its final shape dates back to 1685-87, when the French military fortress builder Vauban expanded the site of the citadel and strengthened the walls and bulwarks into bastions.

Currently, the new ”Cité judiciaire”, heart of the Luxembourgish justice is located here.

A historic fortification from the 13th-century.

This Citadel was established as a monastery in 1234 and its strategic and military position was acknowledged during the first Spanish domination. It eventually expanded and turned into a fort during the French domination. As the third ring was built during the 14th century, the plateau was connected to the protected part of the city.

During World War II, the Holy Ghost Citadel was used as a strategic defensive position. During the Battle of Luxembourg, the Citadel was heavily bombed by Allied forces.

Today, this Citadel is a cultural heritage site and a popular tourist spot. This majestic fortress overlooks the city and provides amazing views, great photo ops, and nice walks. Whether you’re into history, Luxembourg’s culture, and architecture, or just want to experience the charm of the city, the Holy Ghost Citadel is perfect for all of that! It is one of the most significant historical sites in the city.

• Wear comfy shoes as there are some steep inclines and declines and your ankles do not need to be broken and spoil your fun!

Located at our beginnings in Esch-Alzette, the tattoo team was one of the main actors of the tattoo "boom" in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. We eventually moved to Luxembourg City to be more accessible to our various tattoo enthusiasts from all over the country and abroad.
