Mediterranean Luxury Yacht Charter Destination

Encompassing some of the world’s most iconic yachting destinations, the east and west Mediterranean offers a diverse mix of culture, fantastic cuisine, and beautiful coastlines.  The sun-kissed Mediterranean and its enchanting landscape is well serviced by several large international airports, making it ideal for short breaks or longer trips. From the glamour and the luxury of the Cote d’Azur, to the turquoise waters of the Balearics and the ancient wonders of the Greek islands, a yacht charter in the Mediterranean offers a mix of bustling ports and secluded anchorages, picturesque villages and towns, and historical architecture alongside modern five-star resorts and protected national parks. Highlights of the Western Mediterranean include the South of France where the towns of Cannes, St Tropez and Monaco rank highly on the international list of acclaimed yachting destinations.  Since the 1950’s, these ports have welcomed the international jet set and yachting fraternity to their shores and they are now iconic locations of luxury. Moving along the coast, one reaches the Italian ports of Naples, Sorrento and Amalfi.  The Bay of Naples holds the islands of Ischia and Capri, renowned for their thermal spas and blue grotto caves.  The bay can also boast the pastel-coloured town of Positano. Developed vertically, the buildings of Positano seem to rest atop one another as they cascade down the cliff side, meeting with the sea at the bottom. The Italian islands of Sicily and Sardinia, the French island of Corsica, and the Spanish Balearics (Ibiza, Mallorca and Menorca) also offer a yachting playground of beach clubs, pretty harbours and waterside restaurants.  Cruise between Sardinina and Corsica for dramatic landscapes and scenic diversity, best seen in the height of summer, or head to Mallorca for a more cosmopolitan take on island life which is in full swing from April to October. On the Eastern side, the Mediterranean region includes the Adriatic Sea off the coast of Croatia and the Aegean Sea, home to the Greek Cyclades and Dodecanese islands.  In recent years, destinations along Croatia’s coastline such as Zadar, Split and Dubrovnik have enjoyed an increase in popularity and the infrastructure here for tourism is positively flourishing. Referred to as the ‘Pearl of the Adriatic’, the city of Dubrovnik nestles behind its huge imposing ramparts, captured between an azure sea and a lush, green backdrop of hillsides.  Hvar is another destination worth exploring whilst in the Adriatic, built around a Baroque-style harbour, Hvar is the most sophisticated of Croatia’s islands and is fast becoming the St Tropez of the Eastern Mediterranean, with plenty of glitz and glamour to keep you entertained. Greece’s famous mythical islands, such as Mykonos, Santorini, Corfu and the Ionian Islands are perfect for island-hopping by yacht and offer more of an escape from the typical day-to-day.  Here you’ll discover ancient temples and ruins, white-washed streets paving the way to luxury boutiques, and traditional family-owned tavernas serving locally caught fish. The Mediterranean is arguably the home of superyachting and truly offers something for everyone.  For more charter inspiration and to discover some of the Mediterranean’s hidden gems, explore our itinerary suggestions in greater detail.

Mediterranean Yacht Charters: What to Do and See

The Mediterranean offers adventures to suit every yacht charter guest’s taste. From tours of ancient ruins and Old World churches to luxury shopping and the legendary casinos of Monaco, you’ll find it all.

Whether you plan to party all night in Ibiza, or you’d rather relax with a glass of wine in a historic city center, you’re in for a luxury travel experienc e unlike any other. What should you plan to do and see? Here are some of the reasons the Mediterranean is the world’s most popular destination for a luxury yacht charter :

History The body of water the Romans called “mare nostrum” (or “our sea”) is full of historical landmarks important to all of modern Western civilization, from the basilicas of Italy to the earliest churches and monasteries of France and Spain. It’s an architectural goldmine and an inspiration to those who visit. UNESCO World Heritage Sites dot the landscape, as do museums, galleries, and centuries-old historical markers. If you’re interested in art and culture, you’ll love it here.

Food It’s no secret that most of the cities, towns, and villages bordering the Mediterranean Sea are famous for their cuisines. And for foodies, the Mediterranean is a destination like no other. In every port of call, you’ll find a place serving to-die-for foods. From the Michelin-starred restaurants of Monaco to the seaside cafes in Cannes, charter guests are welcomed by great food wherever they go.

Luxury Shopping The Mediterranean is one of the world’s top fashion destinations, with France and Italy holding as much significance in the industry as New York City. Across the region, visitors can explore high-end designer boutiques selling couture garments, accessories, and handbags. Planning to shop? Try Le Metropole Shopping center in Monte-Carlo, one of the world’s best fashion shopping centers. Porto Cervo in Sardinia and La Croisette in Cannes are also must-visit shopping destinations.

Festivals In the Mediterranean, guests are regularly treated to great food, wine, sporting, and cultural festivals. Cannes Film Festival, of course, might be the most famous, drawing A-list celebrities from around the world. Yet, every weekend in the summer, there’s a seaside festival to attend.

Water Sports The waters in the Mediterranean are inviting, and chances are, you’ll spend quite a bit of time in the water while on charter. In particular, the Mediterranean is a hotspot for kitesurfing and windsurfing – especially throughout Italy. Yet, sea kayaking and paddle-boarding are other top activities on a Mediterranean charter. Bottom line, you’ll bask in the sapphire waters during your visit.

Scuba Diving The Mediterranean is rich with history inland, as well as under the sea. In fact, you’ll find incredible dive spots throughout the region. Secca della Colombara and Punta Omo Morto in Italy are favorite dive spots, for example.

Wine For wine-lovers, the Mediterranean is a mecca, offering the best glasses in all of the world. The region’s wine-making tradition, of course, goes back thousands of years, and in every port of call, you’ll find a wine bar, cellar, or bodega serving the best wines. From Sassicaia and Ornellaia from Italy to Bordeaux from France, wine lovers will find much to try and taste in the Mediterranean.

Beach Hopping The Mediterranean offers it all. Art, culture, food, you name it. But there’s another reason to book a luxury yacht charter : Mediterranean beaches! From the Amalfi Coast to Ibiza, from St. Tropez to Sicily, you’ll be welcomed by sun-soaked, white-sand beaches offering the best spots to relax and take in the scenery in every port of call.

Super Yacht Charter: Cruising Conditions

Across the Mediterranean, charter guests are welcomed by amazing cruising conditions: Small swells, calm seas, and amazing weather. Yet each destination offers its own unique cruising experience.

  • Corsica – Corsica offers more than 700 miles of coastline to explore and is known for its upscale marinas, ports, and stunning anchorages. In particular, the Strait of Bonifacio is a top sailing destination, thanks to its steady natural breezes. Around the island, visitors are welcomed by calm seas and cooling breezes throughout summer, as well as warm water conditions.
  • French Riviera – The South of France has a short coastline – just about 400 nautical miles – but there’s much to see and explore along the Cote d’Azur. Here, you’ll find a collection of the world’s most exclusive marinas – like Port Hercule in Monaco and Port de Saint Tropez Marina – and breathtaking anchorages. (Plaga Mala, for example, is a super-tranquil South of France beach anchorage.) Cruising conditions here are ideal: Steady winds, easy 2- to 4-foot swells in summer, and cool breezes.
  • Spain – The Balearic Islands some of the most beautiful anchorages in all of the Mediterranean. The island of Espalmador is a favorite superyacht anchorage. Plus, the marinas like Mallorca’s Club du Mar attract some of the finest superyachts in the world. Sailing is great throughout summer with warm sea winds – June through August. Spring and fall offer more challenging conditions.
  • Sardinia – One of the top sailing destinations in the Mediterranean, sailors come for the steady sea breezes, as well as the protected waters and safe harbors. Calm seas and warm waters welcome visitors in summer.
  • Italian Riviera – An ideal motor yachting destination , with some of the most exclusive marinas in the country including at Portofino and San Remo, the Italian Riviera is an ideal spot for a luxury motor yachting experience.
  • Amalfi Coast – Here you’ll find a collection of some of the most breathtaking anchorages anywhere in the world: Marina Piccola near Capri and the Pontine Islands are two see-it-to-believe-it anchorages. Due to its somewhat longer passage, Amalfi tends to be better for motor yachts.
  • Sicily – The northern and eastern coasts of Sicily offer the best in sail and motor yachting. Here you’ll find well-established marinas, protected waters, and short passages between destinations. In the nearby Aeolian Islands, island hopping in calm seas is a tradition.

Mediterranean Sailing tips

Mediterranean Sailing tips

This time 12 Knots invites you to discover the most traveled  part of the world – a glorious journey around the shores of the  Mediterranean Sea.

It is a long, lively, occasionally challenging and endlessly  fascinating trip off from Gibraltar, one of the fabled Pillars of  Hercules, up the coast of Spain, along the Riviera, to the islands of  Corsica, Sardinia, Sicily, then Croatia, the Greek islands and way-way  to Istanbul in Turkey.

Sailing along the coastlines as wild and diverse as anything you  encounter before will give you a real insight in this world – while  probing through layers of traditions and culture, ancient and modern,  rich and poor, fake and authentic.

Be open to surprise and serendipity, be willing to get lost and appreciate each routine’s uniqueness.

The Mediterranean Sea is an intercontinental one that separates  Europe from Africa. The Strait of Gibraltar connects it to the Atlantic  Ocean on the west; the Dardanelles and the Bosporus – to the Black Sea  on the east; and long man-made Suez Canal – to the Red Sea in the  south-east.

Chartering a boat in the Mediterranean

Renting a yacht in the Mediterranean is a  great alternative to a standard cruise on a liner – this way you will  feel the true freedom and get unique experience as a real traveler!  Spain, Croatia, Italy, France, Montenegro, Turkey, Greece, Malta -  wherever you want to go, 12 Knots will help you to charter a yacht that  will definitely meet your needs, type of vacation and budget. "The cradle of civilization" offers a huge number of attractions.  Secluded bays with paradise beaches and lively cities, fishing villages  with colorful boats and modern marinas filled with premium yachts. There  is no other part of the world where you may find such a great  gastronomic, architectural and nature diversity.

Renting a yacht in the Mediterranean Sea will give you  chance to see many countries of this area in a different perspective.  Instead of visiting standard touristic places you’ll be able to visit  wide variety of little-known places far from the standard routes. For  example, the Cote d'Azur is not only the luxurious ports of  Saint-Tropez, Monaco and Nice with luxury restaurants, casinos and a  great concentration of mega yachts. Here you may also find little  fishing villages, where in a family restaurant you can dine on freshly  caught fish with white or rose wine. Spain is not only Ibiza discos and  beaches of the Costa Brava, full of tourists and pareo vendors, but also  quiet harbors with amazingly clear water, where you can enjoy unusual  solitude.

Rent a boat and do what you want

Mediterranean yacht charters is the opportunity to do what you  want. Every day you can taste local versions of Mediterranean dishes  that differ in terms of cooking method, spices and sauces. Without any  haste, you may stroll among the ancient ruins and climb the walls of  beautifully preserved ancient fortresses, offering spectacular views on  the sea - exactly the same as hundreds of years ago.

Your  vacations will be much more interesting if you choose to rent a yacht.  The Mediterranean coast length is over 40 thousand km, 21 countries and  three continents with different coastal relief. Here you can find almost  everything: volcanos, starch-white and coal-black lava sand, pebbles  and shell rocks.

For photographers, video bloggers and movie  lovers, renting a yacht in the Mediterranean also gives the opportunity  to see a lot of interesting things – in a quite unique way. Among the  places that must be visited is the Italian town of Portofino, where  Antonioni / Wenders shot one of the episodes of the romantic drama  “Behind the Clouds”. Also don’t miss the Amalfi Coast, which is often  served as a backdrop for films about beautiful life. One of the most  scenic views here is Positano village with its colorful houses that  cascade down right to the blue water.

Those who love nature and  silence should include in the list one of the secluded Greek islands  with bicycles and boats. You can rest peacefully on some beaches of the  eastern coast of Sicily, and find a great combination of warm turquoise  of the sea and white fine soft sand. If you are getting bored with peace  and tranquility, you may always get off the anchor and set up sails to  the place where life is in full swing - like Ibiza, in Barcelona,  ??Monaco.

Benefits of sailing in the Mediterranean

One of the main features of the Mediterranean region is its  relative compactness and high dencity of different attractions. History  and architecture, museums, nature, beach attractions and water sports,  shops, amusement parks - all of these can be in just one sailing  vacation.

Mediterranean bareboat yacht charter gives you a  chance to visit places that are almost inaccessible from land, because  they have neither a parking lot nor a safe trail to the sea. You may  find plenty of secluded coves in rocky shores of Turkey and Greece,  where every spot can be your personal secret place, whit not risk of  finding another company.

Dazzling white streets of the small  coastal towns in Greece or red tiled roofs of Montenegro, contrasting  with the huge mountains. Malta’s cultural microcosm, where European,  Arab and African intertwined, and where, in addition to the magnificent  Gothic and Baroque buildings, there are prehistoric sanctuaries, the  secrets of which have not yet been solved. Turkey, with places not  touched by resorts, where you can clearly feel the breath of antiquity.  All this can be points of interest during your yacht charter in the  Mediterranean Sea!

For active travelers who value independence  versus staying in one spot, decision to rent a boat in the Mediterranean  Sea is definitely a solution. If you plan an ordinary trip with an  accuracy of one day and hotels bookings in advance, then yacht gives you  a chance to improvise and change your plan. Renting a yacht is two in  one option: accommodation and transportation at the same time.

It is not surprising that Mediterranean yacht charters are in great  demand and one of the most popular sailing destinations offered by 12  knots. Sailing in this region is a dream for many people, while we make  it a reality. We offer bareboat and crewed yachts for charter from  classic Turkish gulets to modern sailing boats and premium yachts. Our  manager will give detailed information each boat so that you can make  the right choice.

Above all we also can help with itinerary and  destination ideal for your needs and time of the year. For example, if  you are looking for diving or other waters sports, we will tell you the  best spots for underwater attractions and the best way to get there.  Where to find the most beautiful views? Which cities should go to catch  spectacular holidays? Where are the best water parks, shopping centers,  casinos, discos? Answers to all these questions will help create a  unique roadmap.

Whether you’re drawn to the pristine beaches of Aruba, the world-class diving of Bonaire, or the rich cultural heritage of Curaçao, embarking on a yacht charter in the ABC Islands promises to be a journey filled with sun-drenched days, turquoise waters, and boundless exploration. Navigate the azure seas and uncover hidden coves on a Caribbean island yacht charter holiday.

Aruba, Bonaire, and Curaçao Hidden Gems

Aruba boasts long beaches, full-service resorts, shopping opportunities, and casinos. If you want to try your hand at wind and kite surfing, the island is perfect with consistent trade winds. If you’re a nature fan, check out the exotic pink birds wandering around Flamingo Beach, visit the Casibari Rock & Ayo Rock Formations, or visit the local ostrich farm.

Of the three islands, Bonaire is known for having the most spectacular diving spots. You can swim with sea turtles, nurse sharks, and stingrays across 63 official dive sites in the Bonaire Marine Park. Although tiny, only 111 square miles, and ringed by a coral reef, Bonaire boasts a big personality. The hustle and bustle can’t be found, and with more than 22 beaches, there are multiple places to unwind. Take a beach picnic to the uninhabited Klein Bonaire, home to turtle nesting grounds.

The strikingly intense blue-colored sea is the namesake of Curaçao blue liquor, and just off the northern shore of Curaçao, you can find the “blue edge.” If you love to scuba dive, the Blue Edge is a dream. This steep, seafloor drop-off is an incredible scuba diving experience that you won’t forget. The island also boasts spectacular coral reef dives, and the south coast of Curaçao offers calmer waters with incredible anchorages, perfect for enjoying the water toys. You can explore the island by hiking and mountain biking, tracing the jagged cliffs that drop off into the sea and the coral and limestone caves dug out by the waves.

The crown jewel of Curaçao is its capital city, Willemstad, and mooring here will bring you right next to the floating market, an excellent place for souvenirs. This UNESCO World Heritage site is where you will find candy-colored colonial buildings among boutiques and high-end stores, incredible restaurants, and a slew of bars and clubs that deliver a buzzing nightlife.

The first pavilion of Crocus Expo IEC hosted an extraordinary exposition of the 5th International exhibition of yachts and boats Moscow Boat Show. The show had been incredibly famous for five years already not only thanks to the specialists of the market segment as well as professional sportsmen but also thanks to those who consider sailing sport to be their hobby and well cherished dream.

Moscow Boat Show 2012

Moscow Boat Show 2012

The organizer of the project was the Crocus Expo International Exhibition Centre. The show was supported by Aston Martin Moscow, Burevestnik Group logistics department and the Yachting specialized magazine.

The exposition space increased up to 30 000 sq m and was accommodated in all 4 exhibition halls of the fairgrounds! 280 Russian (Arkhangelsk, Vyborg, Kazan, Kaluga, Republic of Karelia, Moscow and Moscow region, Nizhny Novgorod, Novorossiysk, Novosibirsk, Rostov-on-Don, Samara, St. Petersburg, Sverdlovsk region, Sochi, Chelyabinsk, Tyumen and Yaroslavl region) and foreign ( Denmark , Germany , Holland , Greece , Spain , Italy , Cyprus , China , Latvia , Poland , USA , Turkey , Ukraine, Finland , France , Montenegro and Croatia ) companies participate in the show.

Moscow Boat Show provided the perfect platform from which to preview new products, evaluate market trends, and establish long-lasting and commercially profitable partnerships. Despite the dynamic changes taking place in Russia and the rapid growth of the yachting sector, the show continued to complement and reflect the industry’s demand and is a promotional opportunity not to be missed!

Unique exhibits were presented at the show for the first time: exposition of private submarines from U-Boat Russia company, Marquis Yachts 420 SB motor yacht from Sport Bridge S. Marine series, SAGA-415 yacht from Saga Boats Norwegian shipyard, Jetlev-Flyer from MS Watersports.

More than 400 yachts were displayed within the frames of the event including the largest boats ever exhibited in Russia – the 19-meter giant motor yacht Princess 54 as well as the Princess 50 yacht from Nord Marine and Baja speed boat from Burevestnik.

Domfinland OY unveiled a luxury project from Finnish real estate: a seaside premium class hotel in Hanko named consonant with the location Merihanko.

The trade fair was traditionally opened by a Gala Opening Ceremony. Arcady Zlotnikov, First Deputy Director Crocus Expo IEC, was the first to take the floor at the official opening ceremony. He greeted warmly exhibitors, guests and visitors of Moscow Boat Show. Nikolay Krjuchek, Deputy Chief of the State Inspection on Small size Vessels (GIMS) of the Ministry for Emergency Situations of Russia, Georguiy Shaiduko, Acting President of the Russian Yachting Federation (VFPS), Olympic champion in Atlanta and Ekaterina Grishechkina, Director of exhibition Moscow Boat Show also spoke at the ceremony.

The high-ranking guests noted dynamic development of the branch which well reasoned the intensive growth of the exposition and appearance of rather unique “gems”.

A number of business meetings and negotiations were held within the frames of the project: the exhibition was visited by a large delegation of Greek businessmen for the purpose of establishment of mutually beneficial cooperation with the Russian colleagues.

Russian Yachting Federation (VFPS) celebrated its 100 anniversary within the frames of Moscow Boat Show and arranged an exposition of future sailing sport museum (rare awards, gifts, articles from private collections, pictures and etc.) which had been collected since 1912.

Due to carefully chosen running dates the show was visited by more than 26 000 people. The majority of the visitors were of targeted audience – vessel owners and specialists of the branch.

The work at the next edition of the show is under way! The show will be held in March 2013. The overall exhibit space will comprise 40 000 sq m. The exhibition will impress with exclusive exhibits and the latest technological achievements.

Moscow Boat Show was not only an entertaining but at the same time a business promotional event. Participation in the trade fair was a unique opportunity to present a company and products to a distinctly selected targeted audience of industry specialists. They were well prepared to discuss business in the Russian market and even to close a deal on-site.

The show helped representatives of yachting business to get acquainted with their Russian colleagues and gradually improved national yachting market to a new level. It is obvious that for 5 years of its running the project has turned to a status event of the international exhibitions calendar.

Commonly know as the ABC Islands, Aruba, Bonaire and Curaçao, are a part of the Dutch Antilles and located in the west Leeward Antilles, mid-south of the Caribbean Sea just north of Venezuela.

The location is south-west of the Caribbean’s hurricane belt and therefore a popular all year destination. Summers are somewhat warmer but also less frequented so a good destination to get away from crowds.

Aruba and Curaçao are autonomous, self-governing constituent countries of the Netherlands, while Bonaire is a special municipality of the Netherlands.

Dutch  and Papiamentu are the official languages and English is spoken by the majority of the inhabitants.  Papiamentu is a unique creole language heavily influenced by Portuguese  and other European languages.

In 1499 Vespucci arrived in Bonaire and claimed Bonaire for the Spaniards. Two centuries later the Dutch took possession of the Island and in the late 1600’s, African slaves were brought to work on the island.

The mixture of dozens of ethnic and racial influences, Indian, African, Asian and European, have all contributed to who Bonaire is today. The culture has roots in religious, holiday celebrations and traditions, many with African or European origin.

Eco-Adventures like biking, hiking, caving and kayaking are popular activities and well as birdwatching, golfing and of course snorkeling and diving.

Bonaire’s National Marine Park , one of the first marine reserves in the world if not the very first. Famous for a top worldwide shore diving destination ranking. A strict no anchoring policy within the marine park provides a healthy reef. A total of 86 public dive sites, home to over 57 species of soft and stony coral and more than 350 recorded fish species.

ABC Islands Yacht Charter

ABC Islands Yacht Charter

ABC Islands

The ultimate sun-kissed getaway  that combines adventure, colonial history, and serenity.

Aruba, Bonaire, and Curaçao are together the perfect trifecta of unique Dutch islands that blend aquamarine waters, extraordinary diving, and distinctive landscapes all in one. They all share rich colonial history and offer stunning windswept beaches, warm hospitality, a sensational culinary scene, and possibly best of all, a desirable location outside the hurricane path. Yet for all their commonalities, these islands are very different from one another.

All three islands are part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, with Aruba and Curaçao being autonomous self-governing member states, and Bonaire a special municipality of the Netherlands. It’s no surprise that Dutch influences run strong here, especially in Curaçao, where a walk through the capital of Willemstad with its burst of pink, blue, yellow, and gold buildings feels much like strolling the canals of Amsterdam.

With a desirable climate, stunning scenery, and a tranquility that is second-to-none, the ABC Islands have much to offer along your Caribbean yacht charter . The ideal place to start is Bonaire, the smallest of the three with an international reputation as a diver’s paradise. Then continue to on historical Curaçao, the largest island in the group that’s rich with colonial heritage and charm. Finally, make your way to Aruba, where you can find non-stop action and adventure or a secluded anchorage with untouched coastal splendor.

With amazing sights both above and below the glistening Caribbean Sea, the breezy ABC Islands offer the perfect sun-kissed getaway.

Meet your yacht in Harbour Village Marina, where white sand beaches and crystalline waters reflect the rays of the warm Caribbean sun. Bonaire has been a protected area since 1979, and as such, the coral reefs are beyond pristine and abundant with marine life, making it one of the top diving and snorkeling destinations in the world. No anchoring is permitted in this stunning oasis.

Bonaire to Klein, Curaçao

Cruise from Bonaire to the tiny isle of Klein, a blissfully desolate island where the only structures on land are a vintage lighthouse, a beach house, and a scattering of huts. In the water, divers can navigate underwater caves, a vertical drop-off, and vibrant coral reefs. Continue to enjoy this secluded haven with dinner prepared by your personal chef aboard your yacht.

Spanish Waters, Curaçao

Spanish Waters bay view on ABC Islands yacht charter

Wind your way into one of the most sheltered anchorages in the Caribbean, the protected bay of Spanish Waters. With your choice of top-rated beaches and several cays and inlets to explore, the options are blissfully endless. No matter the weather, the waters here are consistently calm and tranquil, perfect for lounging the day away or enjoying a variety of watersports. Venture ashore for a game of tennis or a round of golf at the exclusive Santa Barbara course. The Shore Seafood Grill overlooks the coastline, a wonderful spot to enjoy local cuisine with a view of the waters that are your home.

Willemstad, Curaçao

Steeped in Dutch culture, the capital city of Willemstad is lined with vibrant waterfront buildings and colonial architecture reminiscent of Amsterdam itself. The town is home to several museums and historic buildings such as the Curaçao Maritime Museum and the Kura Hulanda slavery museum.  Stroll the duty-free boutique shops in Punda, and enjoy delicious local cuisine at one of the gourmet dining establishments before returning to the solace of your yacht.

Eagle Beach, Aruba

Eagle Beach in Aruba on ABC Islands yacht charter

Arrive at Eagle Beach, known as one of the best beaches in the world for its powdery soft white sand, trademark fofoti trees, and low-rise resorts. Anchor near the popular Tropicana Casino, where the crystalline water and idyllic setting are yours to enjoy. Then venture ashore to experience the energetic vibe that spills into the streets of Aruba before returning to your charter to enjoy a cocktail on deck.

Palm Beach in Aruba, ABC Islands yacht charter

An island tour of Aruba leads you through a distinctive display of scenery, from amazing volcanic rock formations and unique desert landscapes to abandoned, crumbling gold mills and quaint chapels overlooking the sea. For a lively way to experience it all, travel by Jeep Wrangler or Land Rover and wheel your way across the island.

Take a jaunt to Oranjestad, the main port and capital city of Aruba. It’s an enjoyable stopover for water activities such as snorkelling, paddle-boarding, parasailing, and fishing. Venture ashore for some last-minute shopping before it’s time to return to everyday life.

Great white shark dies after washing up on Kingscliff Beach

A 3.5-metre great white shark has shocked beachgoers on the New South Wales far north coast after washing ashore at a popular tourist spot on Monday morning.

Lifeguards became aware of the distressed shark swimming close to shore and tracked its progress until it became beached.

Shark specialists from Sea World on the Gold Coast were called to the scene to assess the shark.

Sea World shark bay supervisor Siobhan Houlihan said the shark appeared to be a mature female.

"We've come down to see if there's anything that we can do to help this animal," she said.

"Unfortunately, as we've got here, she's beached herself and is not in a good way."

The shark was later euthanised on the beach.

"She will be removed from the beach and taken to fisheries, where they'll do a full necropsy and take some samples and find out what has caused this unfortunate event to happen," Ms Houlihan said.

She said it was extremely unusual for sharks to beach themselves.

"I would say that there's something sinister going on inside," Ms Houlihan said.

"She could be diseased or have ingested something she shouldn't."

Lifeguards had been tracking the shark's progress as it floundered off the coast.

"We were notified this morning that there was a sick shark swimming close to shore," Northern NSW Lifeguard coordinator Scott McCartney said.

"It is a shame; it is never good seeing animals sick and dying like this."

He said the sighting of a great white was unusual.

"We do see them out the back of the surf but for one to be sick and wash up here this is definitely a first," he said.

The rare sight attracted a large group of people including Jack Mumford, 6.

"People were patting it because it had a stomach-ache," he said.

"I am going to tell the kids at school how big it is."

Kingscliff resident Rhonda Mitchell, 78, said she was enjoying her morning walk when she spotted the creature.

"I saw the shark in the shallows getting washed around, I could see it flapping in the water," she said.

"It is very unusual to see a shark up close, you know they're there, but you don't usually see them."

The shark remains have been taken to Coffs Harbour for a necropsy.

Crew of the giant Icon of the Seas cruise ship rescues 14 people adrift in the sea

Authorities say the crew of what is considered the world’s largest cruise ship rescued 14 people clinging to a small boat adrift on the ocean

MIAMI -- The crew of what is considered the world's largest cruise ship rescued 14 people clinging to a small boat adrift on the ocean, authorities said.

Passengers aboard the Icon of the Seas captured video of the crew using a small vessel to ferry the group to the safety of the cruise ship on Sunday. The cruise had begun in Miami, and the ship was headed for Honduras when the rescue happened, passengers said.

The cruise ship encountered the small vessel “adrift and in need of assistance," Miami-based Royal Caribbean said in a statement to The Associated Press on Thursday.

“The ship’s crew immediately launched a rescue operation, safely bringing 14 people on board,” the company said. "The crew provided them with medical attention, and is working closely with the U.S. Coast Guard.”

The crew broadcast “Code Oscar, Code Oscar, Code Oscar,” over the loudspeakers around 3 p.m., Alessandra Amodio said in a report on FoxWeather.com.

Amodio said she watched as people on the tiny craft waved a large white flag.

“The boat turned around, and we pulled up as close as we could to them and stopped,” Amodio said. The cruise ship then launched "a small zodiac-type rescue boat to investigate.”

After the rescue, Amodio said the cruise ship's captain announced that the crew had rescued 14 people stranded at sea for eight days.

The Icon of the Seas is considered by cruise industry experts to be the largest cruise ship in the world at the moment, the Miami Herald reported. It can host 5,610 guests and 2,350 crew members. The ship has 2,850 staterooms, 18 guest decks and seven swimming pools.
